Billie Norma Jean Birkicht Quinalty

Seminole resident Billie Norma Jean Birkicht Quinalty died Sunday at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was 67.

She was born Aug. 16, 1931, in Broken Bow to Clarence and Clara Birkicht.

She married Floyd Quinalty Feb. 25, 1950, in Seminole.

Mrs. Quinalty lived in Seminole most of her life. She was a homemaker and a nurse, and she retired in 1972. Mrs. Quinalty also was a member of Gleaners Holiness Church, Wewoka.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two daughters.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd Quinalty, of the home; son, Donnie Quinalty, Seminole; daughter, Thresa Quinalty, Shawnee; sisters, Faye Armstrong and Vivian Mitchell, Shawnee, and Pat Bullock, Arlington, Texas; and two grandchildren, Tony G. Quinalty and Jeannie L. Quinalty.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gleaners Holiness Church, Wewoka, with the Rev. Larry Chesser officiating. Burial will be in the Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Ray Brown

Lifelong Shawnee resident Ray Brown died Saturday at his home. He was 79.

Brown was born March 26, 1920, in Shawnee to Oscar C. Brown and Maggie (Porter) Brown.

He married Elsie Terry Feb. 28, 1941, in Hominy.

He attended and played football at Shawnee High School. Brown was a veteran of World War II, serving 31 months overseas in Australia, New Guinea and the Phillipines for the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and the Shawnee Elks Lodge.

Brown worked at Tinker Air Force Base as an electrical engineering technician for 30 years until his retirement on April 4, 1975.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Jeannie Brown, Newcastle, and Ralph and Mary Lou Brown, Lawrenceburg, Ind.; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Terry Abla, Plano, Texas; sister, Margaret Stallard, Oklahoma City; brother, Fred Brown, Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Josh Abla, April Abla, John Askins and Jennifer Brown; and special friend, Roberta O'Flanagan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Earl and Buddy Brown; and a sister, Katherine Thomas.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Larry Goins officiating. The casket will be open until service time but will not be opened afterward. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee, 1102 W. MacArthur, Shawnee, Okla. 74801.

Michele Ann (Shelly) Eaton

Stroud resident Michele Ann (Shelly) Eaton died Monday in Stroud. She was 53.

She was born Nov. 24, 1945, in Duncan to Ben R. and Rebecca (Williams) Bourland.

She married Keith Adren Eaton Sept. 4, 1965, in Houston, Texas.

Mrs. Eaton was a resident of Stroud since 1992. Prior to moving to Stroud, she lived in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1963 and attended the University of Oklahoma. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church of Stroud.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Survivors include her husband, Keith, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Tracey Eaton, Oklahoma City; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and David Cochran, Broken Arrow; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Loretta Bourland, Boulder, Colo.; father, Ben R. Bourland, Norman; grandson, Zachary Michael Eaton; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Stroud with the Rev. Burl Mackey, Dr. David Cotton and the Rev. Bill Bryant officiating. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud. Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Houston Ross

Seminole resident Houston Ross died Friday at University Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 77.

Services have been changed to 2 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jackson Deer and the Rev. Paul D. Wolf officiating. Burial will be at Ross Family Cemetery north of Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Loyd Gale Horton

Loyd Gale Horton died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 59.

Horton was born Dec. 5, 1939, in Carter to Roy C. and Annie (Mayer) Horton.

He married Patricia Ann Smith July 21, 1989, in Taft, Calif.

He was a resident of Okfuskee County since 1998. He also was a retired farmer.

Horton was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Mary Horton.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Horton, of the home; daughters, Robbie Miles, Valerie Jennings and Linda Cruz, all of Taft, Calif.; brothers and sisters, Arlene Goodman, Taft, Calif., Ronald Horton, Roseburg, Ore., Robbie Manuele, Fresno, Calif., Pat Brownfield, Visalia, Calif., Leo Horton and Cleo Horton, Taft, Calif., and Bill Horton, McKenzie Bridge, Ore.; and sister-in-law, Janie Warren.

Memorial services took place 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Starland Davis officiating under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Prague.

Carl Ernest Mayes

Lifelong Prague resident Carl Ernest Mayes died Saturday in Prague. He was 91.

Mayes was born Feb. 14, 1908, in Arlington, Okla., to Ernest and Parry (Johnson) Mayes. He married Della Jones on March 19, 1929, in Tecumseh.

He was a retired farmer and carpenter and was a member of the Deer Creek Baptist Church and the IOOF Lodge.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Glen and Earlene Mayes and Wayne and Wanda Mayes, all of Prague; brothers and sisters-in-law, Otis and Gladys Jones, McAlester; Boyce and Agnes Williams and Bruce and Doris Huff, all of Prague; Lovie Ellison, Prague; Ella Broyles, Tulsa; Florence Broyles and Verna Heinzig, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Dale and Frances Cowen, Shawnee; David Cowen, Oklahoma City; Diana Green, Texas; Darlene and Steve Richardson, Donna and Johnny Thoma, Regina and Bobby Martin, and Sheila and Thomas Krauter, all of Prague; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, on Nov. 8, 1992; his parents, one sister, two brothers; one daughter, Wanda Cowen Landrith, in 1988; and one great-grandson.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Prague, with the Rev. Ellis Risenhoover officiating with James Heinzig assisting. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery.

Beulah Doyle Combs

Beulah Doyle Combs of Davenport died Monday. She was 97.

She was born May 29, 1902, in Preston, Indian Territory, the daughter of John and Rhoda Doyle.

She lived most of her life if Davenport, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She married Troy Combs on July 18, 1920, in Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Troy, in 1986, a son, Carl, six brothers and sisters, and one grandson.

Surviving are two sons, Harold Combs of San Francisco, Calif.; Dr. Leon and Lorraine Combs of Shawnee; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Leon Smith of Enumclaw, Wash.; one sister Lena Dean, Seattle, Wash.; other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Davenport, with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Marjorie De'hn Stair Harding

Marjorie De'hn Stair Harding of McLoud died Sunday in Midwest City. She was 63.

She was born July 27, 1935, in Emporia, Kan., to Charles and Grace Stair.

She is survived by six sons, Michael and Gary of Texas; Rick, Matt and Charles of Oklahoma; Paul of Idaho; one daughter, Laura Archer; two brothers, Joe Stair of Texas, Jack Stair of Oklahoma; a sister, Dottie Higgins of Kansas; 19 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Kenneth Joe Fields

Kenneth Joe Fields of Meeker died Sunday in Shawnee. He was 59.

He was born Jan. 15, 1940, in Paris, Texas, the son of Jess Berry and Madge Almeda (Vickers) Fields. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base until his retirement. He married Jackie Qualm in Shawnee on Dec. 6, 1974, and they lived in Meeker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sisters, Ada.

Surviving are his wife, Jackie Fields, of the home; one son, Darrell Fields of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Candyce and Hershel Green of Shawnee; Jeanne and Carl Guinn of Prague; Renetta and James Militeillo of Goshen, Ind.; Dannielle and Richard Nokes of Chandler; seven grandchildren; one brother and wife, Billy and Joan Fields of Paris, Texas; one sister and husband, Peggy and Frank Miller of Lawton; other relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles Higgins officiating. Burial will follow at the Rossville Cemetery in Rossville under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

Dorothy Jean Stidham

Dorothy Jean Stidham died Wednesday in an Oklahoma City hospital. The Shawnee resident was 65.

She was born June 28, 1935, in Shawnee, the daughter of Chester Factor and Jeannetta (Chisholm) Jefferson. She attended various schools in the area. A homemaker, she was married to Charles Stidham.

She was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.

Preceding Mrs. Stidham in death were her husband, parents, one niece and one nephew.

Survivors include two brothers, Wayne Chisholm of Shawnee and Burt Patadal of Norman; two sisters, Anita Chisholm of Moore and Georgia Ann Pineda of Witchita, Kan.; two nieces, Rhonda Ham of Harrah and Michele Pineda of Witchita, Kan.; two nephews, Mark Chisholm of Prague and Sean Pineda of Witchita, Kan.; six great-nieces and three great-nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Victor Cope and Floyd Switch will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Louis A. "Smokey" Smolinski

Louis A. "Smokey" Smolinski died Wednesday in his Meeker home. He was 84.

He was born Oct. 21, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Louis and Bessie Smolinski.

He retired from the Veterans Administration after 30 years as a recreation leader at VA hospitals in Asheville, N.C.; Hampton, Va., and Johnson City, Tenn.

Smolinski was in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He served in the South Pacific and was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. He was a member of the first land attack at the battle for Gaudalcanal. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 1317.

Preceding Smolinski in death were his wife, Margaret, parents and two brothers.

Survivors include a special friend, Marie Parks of Meeker.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park. The Rev. Rusty Williams will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Rosa Nipper

Rosa Nipper died Tuesday in a Midwest City hospital. The Earlsboro resident was 78.

She was born in Johnson Community, Okla., on Feb. 15, 1922, the daughter of Herschel D. and Leola (McAlister) Belcher.

On July 8, 1939, she married Willie Nipper.

She w as a homemaker and had been a member of Fairview Baptist Church since 1945. She and her husband worked together on their family farm.

Preceding Mrs. Nipper in death were her parents, twin granddaughters, Billie Sue and Terrie Lou Bennett, and five brothers, H.D., John, Frank, Howard and David Belcher.

Survivors include her husband of Earlsboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Zeta and Ron Carty of Earlsboro; Wynonia and Dean Bennett of Earlsboro and Zelda and Gwin Prather of Earlsboro; seven grandchildren, Cody Bennett, Lee Ann Helvey, Bobby Bennett, Rose Fulton, Mamie Shannon, Angie Price and Alan Prather; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Belcher of Edmond; three sisters, Ruth Johnson of Shawnee; Mary Strong of Earlsboro and Dorothy Sanders of Detroit, Texas; and three sisters-in-law, Wilma Montgomery, Melba Buoy and Mabel Uldrich.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church. The Rev. Bythel Friend will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Tim Emmons. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park; arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
