Billie Ruth Day

Billie Ruth Day, Shawnee, died Thursday in Shawnee at the age of 73.

She was born to Shelby and Abba Francis (Klaber) Cope on March 1, 1928, in Bryant, Okla. She grew up in Ruggles and attended Ruggles schools (south of Tecumseh) and graduated from Macomb High School. In 1992, she moved to Shawnee.

On Aug. 8, 1947, she and Glen Day were married in Gainesville, Texas.

Mrs. Day worked at Tinker Air Force Base in the aviation electronics division.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents and six brothers.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Jim Baugh of Macomb; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary Cope of Shawnee and Buck and Lana Day of Maud; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Nell McCraw of Tecumseh and Joan and Fred Ray of Midwest City; six grandchildren, Summer Heidtbrink, Jeff Baugh, Ron Robason, Tami Piety, Lisa Edwards and Eddy Dodson; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Mike Craig will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Beverly Sue Whited Wright

Beverly Sue Whited Wright of Oklahoma City died Saturday. She was 61.

She was born Sept. 11, 1939, in Shawnee to Charles Vasco Whited and Ruby Mae (Murray) Whited. A graduate of Shawnee High School, she later attended beauty school.

She grew up in Shawnee and moved to Oklahoma City in 1972.

She was married in February 1985 to Eugene Ernest Wright in Shawnee. Mrs. Wright was a hairdresser for about 20 years, and later worked with the Oklahoma City office of line maintenance for about 15 years, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shawnee.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Tommy Lee Whited.

Surviving are her husband, Eugene Ernest Wright of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Penny Sue and Robert Loch of Choctaw; two sons and daughters-in-law, LeDon Gene and Stacy Snodgrass of Moore, Ricky Lynn and Barbara Snodgrass, Moore; two stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Anita and Herbert Atkins of Fort Cobb, and Brenda and Terry Hedgecock of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family has designated the Leukemia Society of America, 600 Third Ave., New York, N.Y. 10016, as appropriate for memorials.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. W.R. Rains officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Monroe Moody

Monroe Moody, 66, Shawnee, died Thursday in Midwest City.

He was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Washington, Okla., to Irving and Mae (Finley) Moody.

He grew up in the Washington/Purcell area, also living in Norman and Moore before moving to Shawnee 19 years ago.

On April 28, 1978, he and Shirley Cosby were married in Gainesville, Texas.

Moody was a truck driver for J&M Cartage of Oklahoma City. He, his wife and his brother Gary owned and operated Moody's Pond and Lake Stocking Company.

He attended the Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Preceding him in death were his father and two brothers, Merrl Moody and Eugene Moody.

Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother, Mae Paul of Purcell; six sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Sheila Moody of Purcell, Mark and Susan Moody of Norman, Mike and Theresa Moody of Norman, David and Angela Moody of Chickasha, Tommy and Tamara Stiles of Tecumseh and Darrell and Keli Stiles of Shawnee; his daughter, Sharon Syrus of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers and sister-in-law, Gary Moody of Moore, and Gerald and Armelda Moody of Washington, Okla.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley Elms of Norman, Carol and Bill Claxton of Ada and Betty and Butch Bilby of Purcell; his grandchildren, Steven Moody, Lance Moody, Zack Moody, Lyric Moody, Michael Moody, Lindsay Moody, Ashton Stiles, Keaton Stiles and Jeff Austin, as well as numerous other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Rev. Ron Baldridge will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Darla Gean Hackler

Darla Gean Hackler, 57, Shawnee, died Saturday in a local hospital.

The daughter of Jess and Fannie (Marrs) Allgood was born Sept. 4, 1943, in Sasakwa. She attended Varnum and Prairie Valley Schools. She had lived in Shawnee most of her life.

Mrs. Hackler was a homemaker.

Survivors include her three daughters, Rhonda Young of Shawnee, Alice Richards of Seminole and Rita Hurst of California; her son, Richard Hurst of California; her brother, James Allgood of Maud, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Private services were held under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Margie Ruth Mason

Margie Ruth Mason, 76, Shawnee, died Thursday in a local hospital.

The daughter of Earl and Ollie (Walker) Blood was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Rogers, Ark. She attended Shawnee schools.

On June 26, 1944, she and George Stewart Mason II were married in Redfork, Okla.

Mrs. Mason, a homemaker, attended Bethel Temple. She had lived in Shawnee since 1935.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, George Stewart Mason III and his wife, Paulette, of Shawnee, and Randall Stewart and Jackie Mason of McLoud; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Clyde Johnson of Broken Arrow and Debra and Conrad Schulte of Northglen, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, as well as four nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Rutters will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Joseph Woodrow Hughes

Shawnee resident Joseph Woodrow Hughes died Sunday at his home. He was 82.

Hughes was born April 24, 1917, in Sparks to Leo and Callie Hughes. He married Betty Jane Stewart in 1941.

A Shawnee High School graduate, Hughes graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and received a master of aeronautical engineering degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He retired in 1960 after 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Lockeed in 1980.

Hughes moved back to Shawnee in 1996. He was on the C.A.R.E. board and was in the Department of Human Services mentor program. He was also a member of the Pottawatomie County Advisory Board.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane; daughters, Cody Deem and Sally Stewart; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church with Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee or Immanuel Baptist Church building fund.

Georgia Faye Siler Copeland

Seminole resident Georgia Faye Siler Copeland died Monday at Seminole Medical Center. She was 79.

She was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Joplin, Mo., to Josephus Southard and Ivory Ann (Younger) Southard.

She married Leonard Copeland Dec. 24, 1983, in Seminole.

Mrs. Copeland moved to the Seminole area in 1943 from Missouri. She was a cook at Annšs Supper Club in Seminole for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lonnie Siler in 1980; son, Howard Siler; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard Copeland, of the home; daughters, Nita Brown and Kathy Sligar, both of Oklahoma City; sister, Isabelle Zin, California; stepchildren, Jack Copeland, Sherman, Texas, Jerry Copeland, Maud, Donnie Copeland, Okemah, and Alice Wixom, Wyoming; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Dearl Stowers

Dearl Edward 'Puge' Stowers, 83, Sparks, died Saturday in Shawnee.

He was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Cushing to James A. and Cordia Gustavia (Reel) Stowers.

Stowers, who was of the Pentecostal faith, had lived in the Sparks area for many years and worked for Lincoln County. He married Ruby Davis Dec. 5, 1947.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Stowers, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Lana Stowers, Ada; three grandchildren, Amanda Stowers, Shawn Stowers and Gina Stowers, all of Ada; two brothers, Don Stowers, Sacramento, Calif., and Dewey Stowers, Sparks; a sister, Della Vassar, Cushing, and other relatives.

Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the White Dove Cemetery in Sparks with the Rev. Paul Hutchison officiating. Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler, is in charge of arrangements.

Jewell LaVaughn Cobb

Jewell LaVaughn Cobb, 89, of Oklahoma City died Wednesday.

She was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Tribbey to Charlie Reese and Ruth (Anderson) Copeland.

She attended Anderson School in South Pottawatomie County.

She was a homemaker.

She married Jess Cobb in Tecumseh on July 25, 1929. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1997.

She was born and reared in Tribbey and lived in Shawnee from 1979 to 1989. She had lived in Oklahoma City for the past 13 years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Wayne Cobb and Earl Cobb; and two brothers, Paul Copeland and Troy Copeland.

Survivors include her daughter, Christine Hill of Oklahoma City; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Peggy Cobb of Odessa, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Katie Cobb of Stratford; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Ray and Annie Lynch and Larry Lynch, all of Northridge, Calif., Michael and Carmen Cobb of Oklahoma City, Jessica and Kenny Dove of Yukon, Marlene and James Goodman of Oklahoma City, Eddie and Becky Cobb of Palm Springs, Calif., Sheila Cobb of Ada, Ron and Cindy Cobb of Odessa, Texas, and Donna Morgan and Theresa Gifford; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Worldwide Church of God in Oklahoma City with Michael Rassmussen officiating. Burial will follow at Romulus Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. Viewing will begin at 11 a.m. at the church the day of the service.

Linda Sue Harrison

Linda Sue Harrison died Thursday in Midwest City. She was 36.

She was born May 4, 1963, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of Leonard C. and LaDora (Bryan) Grandstaff.

She lived in the Del City area for several years and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard; brother, Billy; and her grandparents.

Survivors include her son, Nathan Harrison, Del City; daughter, Sophia Grandstaff, Chandler; mother, LaDora Grandstaff, Edmond; brothers, Terry Grandstaff, Chandler, Mike Grandstaff, Del City, and Tony Grandstaff, Midwest City; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Chandler. Burial will follow at the Star Valley Cemetery in Chandler.
