Della Washburn

Tecumseh resident Della Washburn died Thursday in Tecumseh. She was 95.

Mrs. Washburn was born Aug. 16, 1904, in Violet Springs, the daughter of Joseph Pealer and Minnie Adeline (Alsup) Brannon.

She attended school in Pink and Tecumseh.

She married Cle Washburn on Aug. 5, 1922, in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1983.

Mrs. Washburn was a homemaker, and attended Pink Baptist Church.

She lived in Missouri until 1916, when she moved to the Tecumseh/Pink area. She had lived in Cleveland and Pottawatomie counties most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her son, Arlin Washburn; her parents, Joseph and Minnie Brannon; two sisters, Lorene Ramsey and Aline Brannon; six brothers, Ervin, Cleo, Virgil, Kenneth and Olin Brannon; and an infant brother.

Survivors include her two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty and Clifford Stapp, Tecumseh; Pauline Haley, Tecumseh; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Gerald and Jamie Washburn, Earlsboro; Elgie and Lucille Washburn, Anza, Calif.; Harold Washburn, Newalla; Willard Washburn, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Dorothy Dunn, Moore; Jewell Pinson, Bolivar, Mo.; two brothers, Jesse Brannon and Delbert Brannon, both of Noble; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh, with the Rev. Robert Rider of the Tecumseh Assembly of God officiating.

Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Billy Joe Pierce

Billy Joe Pierce, 74, Seminole, died Saturday at a Seminole hospital.

The son of Joe and Leva (Burgess) Pierce was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Wolf, Okla.

He and Minnie Wood were married April 26, 1991, in Gainesville, Texas.

Pierce, a member of Bowlegs First Baptist Church, retired in 1990 from his work in the oilfield.

Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Christine Pierce; grandson, Jeffrey Shane Pierce; granddaughter, Jenny Whitely, and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Jerry Clower, Bobby Clower, Phillip Clower, Johnny Pierce and Joe Pierce, all of Seminole; three daughters, Billie Maxine Leonard of Eufaula, Vanessa Pierce of Whitney, Texas, and Laura Renea Pierce of Shawnee; five stepchildren; three brothers, Leslie Pierce of Taft, Calif., James W. Pierce of Macomb and Guy R. Pierce of Konawa; two sisters, Margie Bleeker of Shellknob, Ark., and Joann Ring of Shawnee; 21 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Wolf Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Harrison will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Alfred T. Jeske

Longtime Shawnee resident Alfred T. Jeske, 73, died Saturday at his home.

He was born to Albert and Hattie Jeske on Aug. 24, 1927, in Shawnee. He attended Fairview grade schools and graduated from Earlsboro High School.

On Aug. 6, 1949, he and Naomi Davidson were married in Thomas, Okla.

Jeske, a farmer for many years, worked in seismology from 1949 to 1957.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Janet Jeske of Shawnee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Dwight Suddock and Christine and Lance Ford, all of Edmond; grandsons, Michael and his wife, Rebecca, Suddock, Jason Jeske, Kelly Suddock, Mitchell Ford and Nicholas Ford; a great-granddaughter; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Bernice Jeske of Dallas, Texas; Wesley and Anna Mae Jeske of Shawnee, and Alton and Nova Jeske of Shawnee.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Baptist Church. The Rev. Richard Stillwell will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Mollie L. Armstrong

Mollie L. Armstrong, Shawnee, died Wednesday in a local nursing home. She was 86.

She was born July 20, 1913, in Paden. She was the daughter of George C. Gray and Mesulta (Long) Gray.

She attended Sacred Heart School near Konawa. Mrs. Armstrong was a homemaker.

She was married to Aaron Armstrong in Shawnee. She was a member of the Wewoka Indian Baptist Church.

She had lived in Shawnee since 1992. Prior to that she lived in Seminole County for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, one son, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Factor, Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Rosie Lena, Seminole; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Houston Tiger officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mary Patsy Stuckey

Pawhuska resident Mary Patsy Stuckey died Wednesday in a Pawhuska nursing home. She was 89.

Mrs. Stuckey was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Oklahoma, to Perry and Lena (Johnson) Kennedy.

She grew up in the Sunnydale community in Hughes County and attended Sunnydale School.

She married Willis Dennis Stuckey. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1989.

They were long-time residents of the Wetumka area. She later lived in Meeker before moving to Pawhuska in September of 1995.

She worked as a cook at the Ranch-O-Tel Restaurant.

Mrs. Stuckey was a longtime member of the Wetumka Free Will Baptist Church. She later attended the First Baptist Church in Wetumka.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Fay Densmore; a son, Glen Stuckey; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Earnest and Pat Stuckey, Shawnee; J.T. and Kelly Stuckey, Pawhuska; Dennis and Sue Stuckey, Weleetka; 19 grandchildren; 36-great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Wetumka, with the Rev. Pascal Bevan and the Rev. Mike McCauley officiating.

Burial will be in Wetumka Cemetery, under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Wetumka.

Frank L. Gushwa

Meeker resident Frank L. Gushwa died Monday in a Prague nursing home. He was 78.

Gushwa was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Birdgeton, Mich., to John and Jennie Gushwa.

He grew up in New Castle, Ind., and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Gushwa married Lavinia Proper in 1998 in Laughlin, Nev.

He worked as a printer for the Anaheim Bulletin newspaper in Anaheim, Calif.

Before moving to Meeker, he had lived in Anaheim, Calif., since 1952.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jennie Gushwa; and a sister.

Survivors include his two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Marilyn Gushwa, Meeker; Marty and Connie Gushwa, Moore Park, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Aaron Gushwa, Ojai, Calif.; Ryan Gushwa, Meeker; Keri and Hillary Gushwa, both of Moore Park, Calif.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday, in Fort Gibson National Cemetery, with the Rev. Billy Parker officiating.

Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Betty Louise Baker

Betty Louise Baker died Friday in her Shawnee home. She was 103.

She was born June 21, 1897, in Kansas, the daughter of John W. and Cora Lee Kunkle. She attended Fairview Schools in Minco and received her teaching certificate from Tonkawa, Okla.

In 1917, she married Blaine Smith, who preceded her in death in 1920. She was married April 10, 1926, in Oklahoma City to Del Baker, who preceded her in death July 12, 1973.

She was a member of several clubs for more than 50 years, including Hawthorne Club, Junior Service League, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Preceding her in death were her husbands; parents; son, Merlin Smith, and brothers, John Raymon Kunkle and Roy Mishey Kunkle.

Survivors include a sister, Anna Finley of Norman; sister-in-law, Marjorie Kunkle of Clinton; nieces, Karen Meelcer; Jennifer Kangas; Katrina Ray, and Carolyn Topping.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Fairview Cemetery. Dr. James D. Sill Sr. will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Evelyn Z. Elliott

Longtime Seminole County resident Evelyn Z. Elliott, Seminole, died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was 66.

She was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Stanley, Okla., to Shird Merriman and Lucy Pearl (Winkle) Merriman. A homemaker, she worked for Wal-Mart for 10 years before retiring in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter; sister, Dorothy Johnson; brother, Carl Lee Merriman, and an infant brother.

Survivors include her sons, Gary Elliott of Seminole; Kenny Elliott of Seminole; Darrell Elliott of Konawa; Larry Elliott of Weatherford, and Donny Elliott of Flowermound, Texas; daughter Peggy Roulston of Shawnee; brothers, Arlin Merriman of Yakima, Wash.; Wayne Merriman of California; Gene Merriman of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dean Merriman of Oak View, Calif.; sisters, Claretta Norman of Konawa; Vada Norman of Seminole; Mildred Lancaster of Sasakwa, and Elva Phillips of Seminole; grandchildren, Amy Elmore; Gary Elliott; Jeremy Elliott; Derek Elliott; Chance Elliott; Kendra Elliott; Zachary Elliott; Shannon Elliott and Griffin Elliott; a great-granddaughter and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jason Yarbrough will officiate and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.

Zachary Dale Cleere

Zachary Dale Cleere, infant son of Alvin and Carol (Gokey) Cleere, Shawnee, died Friday in Oklahoma City.

He was born Jan. 30, 2001, in Oklahoma City. His parents are life-long residents of the Shawnee and Tecumseh area.

His mother is a 1986 graduate of Tecumseh High School and his father is a 1986 graduate of Prague High School and a member of the Earlsboro Fire Department.

Survivors include his parents; sister, Bailey Jean Cleere of the home; brother, Clayton Earl Cleere of the home; grandparents, Mary and Leo Gokey of Tecumseh and Pat and Alvis Cleere of Shawnee, and many other family members.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh. The Rev. Richard Stillwell will officiate and burial will be in Little Cemetery.

William W. Strickland

Shawnee resident William "Bill" W. Strickland, 73, died Friday in Oklahoma City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.
