Dorothy F. Southers

Dorothy F. Southers died Friday at her Shawnee residence. She was 79.

She was born Jan. 11, 1922, in El Dorado, Kan., the daughter of Daniel Shook and Rachel (Newman) Shook.

She attended grade school and high school in El Dorado, Kan., and went to college for one year. In 1959, she moved to Shawnee.

She was married to Gerald Southers. She worked as a secretary for Project Heart and had worked for City Cafe, Pratts and Gibsons.

Mrs. Southers was a member of Ladies Auxiliary and Liberty Baptist Church. She had volunteered for R.S.V.P.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, and sisters, Lucille Paschell and Esther Sevier.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald L. and Betty Southers of Shawnee; Richard L. and Nell Southers of Rock Port, Texas;and Ronald L. and Karen Southers of Shawnee; brother, Howard Shook of Grand Junction, Colo.; sisters, Zola Stewart of Peabody, Kan.; Juanita Scrivner of Peabody, Kan., and Charlotte Walker of Aurora, Colo.; five grandchildren and many other relatives.

Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee, 1102 W. MacArthur, Shawnee OK 74801.

Edith Kathleen Howell

Longtime Seminole resident Edith Kathleen Howell, Tulsa, died Friday at a Tulsa hospital. She was 82.

She was born on April 19, 1918, near Golden, Okla., the daughter of Toy and Ninevah (Edwards) Standridge. On Dec. 24, 1933, she married John Howell.

The couple managed Seminole Municipal Airport from 1966 through 1989. The mayor declared Dec. 14, 1989, as John and Edith Howell Day in Seminole to commemorate their retirement.

Mrs. Howell had lived in Tulsa for the past several years.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, John, on May 29, 1991.

Survivors include her son, Jerry Howell of Tulsa; grandson, Doug of Toronto, Canada; sisters, Madge Fite of Marietta, Ga.; Juanita Gore of Mena, Ark., and Beatrice Pool of Danville, Ark.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole. The Rev. Robert Cocke will officiate; arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Angel Deann Carter

Angel Deann Carter, infant daughter of Connie Deann Reaves and Jeremie James Carter, Shawnee, died Wednesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born Jan. 31, 2001, in Oklahoma City.

Preceding her in death were her great-grandfathers, Curtis Evans, Ed Jones and Jim Lewis, and her great-grandmother, Irene Evans.

Survivors include her mother and father; grandparents, Merl and Debra Mathis; Mack and Kelly Reeves, and Jimmy Don and Trellis Carter; aunts and uncles, John Ryan and Kristen Reeves; Darrell and Heidi Mehring; Tisha Reeves and Michelle Reeves; great-grandparents Leona Lewis; Herman and Linda Jones; Jimmy Carter, and Dale and Jean Walls; great-great-grandparents Liza Jones and Francis Englelhart, and many other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Bill Roberts will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Thelma A. Martin Van Leeuwen Ray

Thelma A. Martin Van Leeuwen Ray, 92, Shawnee, died Saturday in a local hospital.

She was born in Durant on July 22, 1908, the daughter of Ezra and Bessie Smith. She attended school in Durant and was a homemaker.

In 1924, she married Zearl D. Martin, who preceded her in death in 1959. She also married H.A. Van Leeuwen and Joe B. Ray. Both preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ray was a member of Northwest Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Ed and Carolyn Martin of Shawnee; Melvin and Mary Martin of Shawnee, and Margaret L. Thompson of Shawnee; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Althez Mae Holcomb of Midwest City; sister-in-law, Lucile Smith of Kingston, Okla., and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Sam Hendry will officiate and burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Helene Lorraine (Reeves) Patterson

Helene Lorraine (Reeves) Patterson, Muskogee, died Friday in Muskogee at the age of 77.

She was born in Tecumseh on Nov. 10, 1923, the daughter of Schley and Pearl (Oldham) Reeves.

She graduated from Tecumseh High School and attended two years of business school. On Dec. 14, 1945, she married Clayton Patterson in Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Patterson worked as an office manager. She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Muskogee.

Preceding her in death were her husband and parents.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Brenda Patterson of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Fred Clark of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Joshua and Amanda Patterson; Jennifer, Nathan and Melissa Clark, and Pam and Marty Breuninger; a great-granddaughter; brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Patty Reeves of Tecumseh; sisters and brother-in-law, Bernice and Bill Kilgrew of Tulsa; and Doris Miller of Arlington, Texas; brother-in-law, Wayne Patterson of South Dakota, and many other relatives.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Muskogee. The Rev. Wirt Skinner will officiate. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Bradley Funeral Service of Muskogee.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 2000 E. Haskell Blvd., Muskogee OK 74403.

Harold Blaine Dickerson

Former St. Louis, Okla., resident Harold Blaine "H.B." Dickerson, 53, Del City, died Friday.

He was born Sept. 20, 1947, in Shawnee, the son of Amye and Harold Dickerson.

In 1965, he graduated from St. Louis High School. Dickerson received his degree from East Central State University in Ada and his master's degree from Oklahoma State University.

He had retired from the U.S. Army Reserves and had spent time in active duty during the Gulf War, receiving the Bronze Star for this effort.

Dickerson, a retired senior probation and parole officer for the state of Oklahoma, was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge 123 in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, of the home; parents, Amye and Harold Dickerson of St. Louis; sister and her daughter, Debbie and Lynnsey Thompson of Oklahoma City.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary, 6934 S. Western, Oklahoma City. Burial will be in Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Sapulpa.

Estel Whisler Evans

Retired environmental test technician Estel Whisler Evans, 87, Shawnee, died Thursday at his home.

Viewing and visitation for family and friends will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday.

A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Stillwell and the Rev. Glen Pence officiating. Burial is set for Resthaven Memorial Park. Resthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Evans was born May 24, 1913, in La Grange, Mo., to Thomas and Henrietta (Whisler) Evans.

He graduated from Sapulpa High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Port Arthur College before completing his degree at Fullerton College in Fullerton, Calif.

Evans was married Oct. 30, 1942, to Roma June Moses in Sapulpa.

He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from December 1942 to January 1945.

A resident of Fullerton for many years, he worked at Hughes Aircraft Co. as an environmental test technician until retiring in 1975. Evans, a deacon at Fairview Baptist Church, returned to Shawnee in 1981.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Roma June Evans, Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Thomas and Sharon Evans, Jacksonville, Fla.; three granddaughters, Deanna Kabler, Norfolk, Va.; Jillian Evans, an OBU student; and Lindsay Evans, of the home address; and a great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee, 1102 W. MacArthur, Shawnee OK 74801.

Robert Morris Lovelady

Former Seminole resident Robert "Bob" Morris Lovelady of Tulsa died Thursday at a Tulsa nursing center. He was 81.

He was born April 27, 1919, in Russellville, Ark. He was the son of Edwin Howard Lovelady and Mattie Amanda (Tucker) Lovelady.

Lovelady moved to Seminole at the age of 10 and graduated from Seminole High School in 1937.He married Ruby Lee Ellis July 1, 1950, in Terrell, Texas.

Lovelady, who served as a police officer with the Seminole Police Department, deputy for the Seminole County Sheriff's Department and with State Capitol security for 12 years, retired in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the West South Pacific. He was a 50-year member of the Seminole First United Methodist Church and a 32nd degree Mason. He was involved in the American Legion and Will Rogers Methodist in Tulsa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepdaughter, Doris Jackson, in 1984; three brothers, Edwin Howard Lovelady Jr., Albert Reed Lovelady and J.W. "Ben" Lovelady in 1982 and one sister, Vivian Prater, in 1991.

Survivors include wife, Ruby L. Lovelady of the home; one daughter, Kay Curry of Wills Point, Texas; two stepdaughters, Gay Downing of Bixby and Fran Ziegler of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Seminole, with the Rev. David Karges officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole. Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Ruth Skrimager Gebo

Ruth Skrimager Gebo, Tulsa, died Thursday in Tulsa. She was 80.

The daughter of Albert and Miranda England Skrimager was born July 18, 1920, in Bearden, Okla. She graduated from Bearden High School and Draughon's Business College in Tulsa.

On Oct. 2, 1953, she and Arthur C. Gebo married in Tulsa.

Mrs. Gebo was a secretary for Amoco Oil Company. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tulsa.

Preceding her in death were her parents and sisters, Agnes Robinson and Gladys Little.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur of the home, and her sister, Iva Lou Henshaw of Sweetwater, Texas.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Parks Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Okemah.

Bennett G. King

Bennett G. King, Shawnee, died Friday in a local hospital at the age of 67.

Services are pending with Resthaven Funeral Home.
