Travis C. Walker

Travis C. Walker died Tuesday in his Okfuskee home at the age of 83.

He was born April 3, 1918, to Richard and Elizabeth Bell (Byrum) Walker. He was raised in the Okfuskee community and was a member of the Assembly of God faith for 55 years.

Walker married Wanda Lee Thomas on Sept. 24, 1945, in Okemah.

Walker farmed and ranched in the Okfuskee area and he and his family was selected as the "1998 Farm Family of the Year."

Preceding him in death were his parents; seven brothers, Bill Walker; Alva Walker; Ora Walker; Paul Walker; Horace Walker; Vernon Walker, and Frank Walker, and three sisters, Nettie (Walker) Walker; Alza (Walker) Buie, and Gladys (Walker) Woods.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Delores Walker of Tuskegee, Okla.; Gallen and Carol Walker of Okfuskee, and Roger and Sharon Walker of Okfuskee; two daughters, Travelene Thompson of Weleetka, and Rhonda Walker of the home; two sisters, Kathryn (Walker) Ingraham and Minnie Walker, both of Okemah; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Okemah. Burial will follow at Okfuskee Cemetery. Steve Lowrance will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Bruce Jenkins

Bruce Jenkins of Earlsboro died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 95.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Thelma Blain Clark

Thelma Blain Clark of Tecumseh died Wednesdsay in Oklahoma City. She was 91.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Kenny Myers of Freewill Baptist Church, Tecumseh, officiating. Burial will be in White Dove Cemetery, Sparks.

Other information is pending.

Bill Washburn

Bill Washburn of Norman died Saturday at a Norman hospital. He was 83.

He was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Okemah to William Wandrew Washburn and Lena (McGuiness) Washburn.

He attended grade school in Pauls Valley, later completing his high school education while in the U.S. Army.

Washburn was an aircraft mechanic, working at Tinker Air Force Base. He was employed there 20 years and retired Nov. 1, 1963.

Washburn was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946. He was attached to the First Airborne Division and the 506 Military Police. He served in England, France, Belgium and Germany.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Washburn lived in Shawnee most all of his life.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Hazel Washburn; daughter, Tobie Smith; brother, Glen Washburn; a sister, Jackie Washburn; and an aunt Opal O'Dell.

Surviving are a son, Allen Washburn of Norman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Wayne Blue of Stephenville, Texas, Jeanette and Bobby Rich of Hobbs, N.M.; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Vera Washburn, Shawnee, sister Genivive O'Dell of Lancaster, Calif.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren

Services were held Wednesday at Victory Tabernacle in Shawnee. The Rev. Robert Milsap officiated. Burial followed in Tecumseh Cemetery. Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Lesley Dedmon

Longtime McLoud resident Lesley Dedmon, 78, who had recently moved to Yukon, died Tuesday in Yukon.

The son of William Henry and Lilly Mae Wimpy Dedmon was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Elk City, Okla. He grew up in the Oklahoma City area.

Dedmon, who served in the U.S. Navy, was a truck driver. He was also an ordained Free Will Baptist minister and served in several central Oklahoma congregations.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Ivan "Hoss;" and 12 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kimball Dedmon, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debbie Dedmon of Sarrento, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Reginia G. Wells of Yukon, and Rebecca and Brian Borchers of Wylie, Texas, and six grandchildren, Chris, Jason, Tiffany, Sarah, Jill and Katie.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Oakland Chapel Baptist Church in Shawnee. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang.

Otis Brown

ARCO retiree Otis Brown died Tuesday. The Cromwell resident was 80.

Brown was born Aug. 23, 1920.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole on SH 99. The Rev. Paskel Beban of Friendship Baptist Church, Cromwell, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home, Okemah.

Helen Wright

Helen Wright of Tecumseh died Thursday in Midwest City. She was 78.

She was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Shawnee to Leeford and Nellie (Moore) White. She graduated from Earlsboro High School.

On Dec. 26, 1946, she married J.D. Wright in Arkansas City, Kan.; he preceded her in death Jan. 25, 1992.

She was a lifelong resident of Pottawatomie County. She and her husband opened Jay's Drive-In in Tecumseh in 1964 and operated it until 1972. She also worked as head cook for the Tecumseh Golden Age Center for 10 years.

She was a member of the Wallace Avenue Baptist Church and the Square Eights Square Dancing Club.

She also was preceded in death by an infant son; a granddaughter, Ashlie Wright; her parents; and a sister, Thelma Slover.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard and Jeanine Wright, Plano, Texas; Russell Wright, Tulsa; three sisters, Lola DeBerry, Lela Woods and Dorothy Gilmore, all of Shawnee; two granddaughters, Trisha Wright, Plano; and Mackenzie Wright, Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with the Rev. DuWayne Colvin officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Earl Wayne Hines

Earl Wayne Hines, 51, Seminole, died Wednesday at Seminole Medical Center.

The son of James Les Hines and Stella Mae (Standerfer) Hines was born in Seminole County on May 3, 1949.

On May 12, 1969, he and Carol Tigner were married in Seminole.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 45th Infantry Division, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.

Hines, a longtime Seminole County resident, worked in the oilfield and was an umpire.

Hines was a member of the DAV, the VFW, the Varnum Board of Education and past vice president of the Oklahoma High School Baseball Umpire's Association.

Preceding him in death were his father; two brothers, James Hines and Clarence Hines; and one son, Carlton Hines.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; mother, of Seminole; son, Jeffrey D. Hines of Seminole; brothers, Roy Hines of Seminole and Robert Ellery Hines of Texas; sister, Virginia Patrick of Seminole; sister-in-law, Hilday Hines of Santa Paula, Calif.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, J.D. and Ione Tigner of Seminole, as well as several other family members.

Services will be 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Seminole. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Benjamin Ray Foulks

Benjamin Ray "Ben" Foulks, Perkins, died Friday in Stillwater at the age of 86.

He was born Jan. 2, 1915, in Poteau. The son of Charles and Lillie Belle (Southern) Foulks was a welder and fitter. Foulks married Lenore C. Smith in 1953 at San Francisco, Calif.

He had lived in the Chandler-Meeker area for many years before moving to Perkins.

Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, three sons, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his son, Phillip Foulks of Oklahoma City; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanetta and C.D. Pressley of Perkins; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Forrest Cemetery, near Chandler. The Rev. Jim Blair will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Lillie Bell Morrow

Lillie Bell Morrow, 91, Okemah, died Friday in New Orleans, La.

The daughter of Clinton Parrish Dennis and Mary Louise Bell Dennis was born Aug. 31, 1910, in Smithville, Mo. She moved to the Okemah area in 1925.

On Aug. 12, 1926, she and William Lester "Huddy" Morrow were married in Muskogee.

Mrs. Morrow was a retail clerk and taught Sunday school at Okemah First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband and parents.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Patty Morrow of Okmulgee; three daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce and Tom Yates of Henryetta, Deanna Patty of New Orleans and Connie Williamson of Oklahoma City; a sister, Mary Volk of California; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Burial will follow at Rock Creek Cemetery with Dennis Yates officiating.

Virgil F. Ward Jr.

Virgil F. Ward Jr. died Wednesday at his Wetumka home. He was 58.

Ward was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Holdenville to Virgil F. and Dora Etta Dilbeck Ward. He grew up in Holdenville, where he attended Holdenville schools and Calvary Baptist Church.

The veteran of the U.S. Navy served five tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded the Navy Achievement Gold Star and "V" Device, Navy Unit Commendation and several other medals.

On Nov. 27, 1962, he married Annetta Gale Wyrick. They lived on several naval bases on the West Coast until his retirement from the Navy in April of 1982.

He then moved to Wetumka, where he opened a mail order company, Yester Year. In 1982, Ward designed a coin to commemorate Sucker Day.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Annetta, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Glenna and Mickey VanZant, Wetumka; Jennifer and her friend Jeff Hargraves; grandson, Steven Davis, Wetumka; a sister, Irene Sorrals, Moab, Utah; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Heathcott, Wetumka; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Glen and Helen Myrick, and a brother, Auer.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Holdenville Cemetery, with the Rev. Roger McElroy officiating. Williamson Funeral Home, Wetumka, is in charge of arrangements.
