Mary R. (Block) Blochowiak

Longtime Shawnee resident Mary R. (Block) Blochowiak died Friday in a local hospital. She was 86.

Mrs. Blochowiak was born Oct. 7, 1913, in Ringgold, Ga., the daughter of William and Laura Klish.

She moved to Drumright in 1917, and lived there until she moved to Shawnee with her parents in June 1925.

She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1930. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper for F.W. Woolworth Co. Later she was a bookkeeper for J.C. Penney.

She married C.J. Blochowiak on Sept. 9, 1941, in Shawnee.

Mrs. Blochowiak was preceded in death by her parents, William and Laura Klish; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, C.J. Blochowiak of the home; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Bill and Brenda Blochowiak, Oklahoma City, Dick and Nancy Blochowiak, McLoud, Charles Blochowiak, Ponca City, and Ed Blochowiak, Shawnee; a daughter, Mary Ann Blochowiak, Edmond; three sisters, Mildred Fox, Northglenn, Colo., Alda Bartholomew, East Moline, Ill., and Ruby Stevens, Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren; and many other relatives.

A prayer service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Grace Crosby Davis

Grace Crosby Davis of Augusta, Kan., died Wednesday at an Augusta, Kan., hospital. She was 80.

She was born May 23, 1920, in Okemah. She was the daughter of Clarence Crosby and Rebecca Crosby.

She was a former resident of Seminole. She married Charles W. Davis on May 25, 1938, in Seminole.

He preceded her in death in 1998. She worked as a postal clerk for the Towanda Post Office and was a checker at Safeway Grocery in Augusta, Kan., and Seminole.

Davis was an avid motorcycle enthusiast for many years and was a lifetime member of the Motor Maids, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, C.C. Crosby and Joe Crosby.

Survivors include sons, Charles Oren Davis of Cache and Robert Davis of Augusta, Kan.; sister, Ann Vanlandingham of Seminole; brother, Gene Crosby of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Norman Mosier of Towanda, Kan., officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Mary Walters Addington

Shawnee resident Mary Walters Addington died Saturday in a local nursing home. She was 83.

Mrs. Addington was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Dow City, Iowa, to William "Billy" and Amy Walters.

She graduated from Dow City High School and attended Wayne State University in Nebraska, where she received her bachelor's degree in math and science.

Mrs. Addington trained as a medical technologist and was the head of the lab department at City Hospital and ACH Hospital in Shawnee.

She married Darwin (D.C.) Addington in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D.C. Addington; infant son, Darwin C. Addington Jr.; parents, Billy and Amy Walters; and a sister.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Addington, Shawnee; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Eleanor Walters, Indiana, and Wayne and Norma Walters, Iowa; a sister, Nellie Aho, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Janie Kirt Morris officiating.

Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Verdane Carl Cash

Verdane Carl Cash, Shawnee, died Saturday in a local hospital. He was 75.

Cash was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Macomb to Clifton and Ina Cash.

He married Virginia Heatley on Sept. 16, 1947, in Norman.

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base until his retirement in 1980.

He served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps from February 1944 to January 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Cash of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Mary Cash, Stillwate, and Larry and Carolyn Cash, Meeker; two daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn and Glenn Burton, Shawnee and Mary Cash, Cushing; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Donna Cash, Shawnee; five granddaughters, Angie Cash, Kristy Burton, Julie Burton, Jessica Cash and Victoria Cash; and many other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Floyd Laxton

Floyd Laxton of Seminole died Thursday. He was 62.

He was born May 1, 1938, in Konawa. He was the son of Homer F. Laxton and Viola (Taylor) Laxton.

He was a lifelong resident of Seminole County. He married LInda (King) Laxton on April 12, 1963, in Fort Smith, Ark.

Laxton graduated from Bowlegs High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marcella Layne; five brothers, Carl Laxton, D.L. Laxton, Ire Laxton, Glen Laxton and Donald Laxton (his twin).

Survivors include his wife, Linda Laxton of the home; son, Ronnie Laxton of Seminole; three daughters, Barbara Roberts of Moore, Carla Hardway of Seminole, and Stacy Glenn of Seminole; brother, Bob Laxton of Athens, Ala.; two sisters, Maxine Davis of Laverne and Carolyn Yerby of Seminole; and 10 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Little Cemetery with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

The casket will remain open till 9 a.m. Monday.

Viola Harman

Viola Harman of Oklahoma City died Thursday in Oklahoma City. She was 91.

Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike DeMoss, pastor of United Methodist Church in Bristow, officiating. Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Other information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home .

Charles Bonard

Charles "Charlie" Bonard, Shawnee, died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was 75.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Further information is pending under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Helen Ruth (Hale) Groce

Former Shawnee resident Helen Ruth (Hale) Groce, Yukon, died Saturday. She was 69.

Mrs. Groce was born Nov. 13, 1930, in Shawnee, to Ira and Lorean Hale.

She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1948, and attended Bethany Peniel College.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Gus Groce; and a son, Terry Lynn Groce.

Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Jody and Barbie Groce, Highland Village, Texas; Perry and Jill Groce, Yukon; a sister, Deloris Martindale, Garland, Texas; brother, Ted Hale, Madill; five grandchildren, Brittny, Kali, Tanner, Peyton and Caelan; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday at Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel in Oklahoma City. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Nell Louise Heard

Nell Louise Heard, Maud, died Wednesday in a Midwest City hospital. She was 58.

Mrs. Heard was born March 27, 1942, in Konawa, the daughter of Frank and Emmer (McNabb) Sanders.

She married Ivan Heard on Oct. 6, 1957, in Holdenville.

Mrs. Heard worked at First National Bank and at BancFirst in Midwest City for many years.

She was a member of the Del View Baptist Church in Del City.

She had moved to Maud from Del City in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emmer Sanders; a sister, Lorena Dill; and two brothers, Johnny Ray Sanders and Dorville Sanders.

Survivors include her husband, Ivan Heard, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Maureen Heard, Allen, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa and Dennis Wilson, Del City; Melissa Heard, of the home; three brothers, Mavis Sanders, Newcastle; Jimmy Sanders, Moore; Tommy Sanders, Richardson, Texas; four sisters, Emma Gunn, Minden, La.; Barbara Walls, McLoud; Polly Jones, Spencer; Judy Gammon, Broken Bow; and two grandchildren, Shelby Wilson and Shannon Wilson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole, with Dr. Bruce Sanders officiating.

Burial will be in Lone Dove Cemetery, east of Vamoosa, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Grace Edna Cross

Grace Edna Cross, Oklahoma City, died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City nursing home. She was 96.

Mrs. Cross was born Nov. 21, 1902, in Pumpkin Center, to Charles and Etta Traughber.

She married Virgil Lee Cross on Nov. 11, 1927, in Tecumseh.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Seminole, and was active in Eastern Star and Chautauqua Clubs.

Mrs. Cross previously lived in St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Cross; a son, Joe Lee Cross; her parents, Charles and Etta Traughber; four brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her two daughters, Pauline Eddy, Alamogordo, N.M.; Joan Strunk, Stillwater; seven grandchildren, Sharon Eddy and Susan Eddy, both of New Mexico; Cody Strunk, Guy Strunk, Joe Strunk and Keisha Cross, all of Oklahoma City; and Bart Cross, South Carolina; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
