Charles R. Morgan
Charles R. "Charley" Morgan, 70, Meeker, died Wednesday at his home.

Services are pending and will be announced by Resthaven Funeral Home, Shawnee.

Wanda Marie Woods
Former Shawnee resident Wanda Marie (Needham) Woods died Friday, Feb. 13, in a Brownwood, Texas, nursing home. She was 75 years old.

She was born in Shawnee to William Wyatt and Martha (Riggs) Needham.

Woods graduated from Shawnee High School and earned a music degree from Oklahoma Baptist University.

She married John E. Woods Nov. 27, 1943, in Shawnee. The couple had six children.

Woods was active in the Southern Baptist church and an accomplished singer. She taught public school music in Missouri. She was certified to teach remedial reading to primary students, which she did until retiring from the Dallas Independent School District.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 2000; one grandson, Wesley; one brother-in-law, Merrill; one sister-in-law, Bessie and husband Marion.

She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Stephen E. and Pamela S. Woods of Waco, Texas, Thomas S. and Dokagari Woods of Early, Texas, Bryan A. Woods of Israel and David T. and Susan Woods of Melbourne, Ark.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marcie J. and Douglas Strube of Waxahachie, Texas, and Aimee L. Hall of Dallas, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Wyatt and Mary Ida Needham of Oklahoma City; one brother-in-law and wife, Melvin and Nona Woods of Shawnee; three sisters-in-law, Berna Grissom and husband Emory of Tulane, Calif., Beryl Howell of Hawthorne, Nev., and sister-in-law Lela Woods of Shawnee; 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A service will be 2 p.m. today at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie, with visiting beginning at noon.

A chapel service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel with Steve Woods of Waco officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the John E. Woods Memorial Piano Performance Scholarship at OBU.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waco, Texas.

James Chester Denham
James Chester Denham died Friday, Feb. 13. He was 86 years old.

He was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Shawnee, to Quitman and Margaret Eskridge Denham.

Denham served in the U.S. Navy and was personnel manager at Oklahoma Natural Gas Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margaret.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and George Hill of Tulsa and Yvonne and Herb Wagoner of Broken Arrow; two brothers, Archie Denham and Charles Denham; five grandchildren; and five-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Rosewood Chapel of Tulsa.

Moslette K. Kern
Moslette K. Kern of Shawnee died Wednesday, Feb. 11. She was 94 years old.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Pollard Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of God Green Pastures in Spencer.

Opal Gene James
Opal Gene James, 88, of Tecumseh died Thursday in McAlester.

She was born Nov. 24, 1914, in southwest Pottawatomie County to Richard Melton and Nora Edna (Dare) Porter.

James attended school at Martin Hill. She was reared west of Wanette and moved to Tecumseh in 1938.

On Oct. 10, 1936, she married Wendell Burton James in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1996.

She was a homemaker

Since Jan. 8, 1938, James was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was also the past president of the WMU.

James was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mae Porter and Lois Kelly; and two brothers, Henry and Truss Porter.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Palma Sue and Jerry Howard of Mocksville, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin and Shirley James of Dallas, Texas, and Melton and Cheryl James of McAlester; two sisters, Oneta Coffey of Tecumseh and Rhoda Flowers of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandsons, David James and his wife Abby of Guthrie and Marcus Howard of Mocksville, N.C.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W.F. Crow and the Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Charles O. Blakley
Shawnee resident Charles O. Blakley, 66, died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born in Shawnee on Oct. 27, 1936, to Owen and Martha Blakley.

Blakley married Dorris Jane Lowery on Nov. 8, 1958.

He worked as a forklift operator for Wolverine Tube Inc., and lived in Shawnee for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on May 2, 1989; four sisters, Georgia, Joy, Elsie and Jewel; and a grandson, Dakota Joe Blakley.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Kim Blakley, Shawnee; and Alan and Suzie Blakley, Macomb; two stepchildren and their spouses, Rick and Karen McDonald, Shawnee and Cathy and Steven Johnson, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Kristin, Destiny, Dustin, Brandon, Bradley, Dylan, Jessica, Steven, Jason, Dennis, Steven and Stephanie; a sister, Pearl Elliot, Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating. Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.

Opal Louise Kelly
Shawnee resident Opal Louise Kelly, 86, died Wednesday.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gail and Nina Kelly, Fairview; Earnest and Jeanie Kelly, Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Lorin Mackey, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel, Oklahoma City.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Homes, Oklahoma City.

Donald J. Bright
Meeker resident Donald J. Bright, 90, died Friday at his home.

He is survived by one son, Donald Joe Bright, and his fiance, Robin, Meeker; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Donna and Ronald Lofton, Meeker, Carol Sue and Ruben McKinzie, Blanchard, Claudia Ann Wall, Oklahoma City, and Paula and Robert Hulstine, Meeker; sister Doris Turnbill, Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker with the Rev. Glen White officiating.

Viewing and visitation will be in the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker until noon Monday.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Meeker under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral service of Prague.

Barbara M. Hanson
Shawnee resident Barbara M. Hanson, 68, died Friday at a Shawnee hospital.

She was born on July 20, 1934, to Garland and Virginia McDowell in Muskogee.

She married Donald Hanson on Sept. 13, 1958, in Muskogee. He preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1995.

She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and was involved in the Mother's Day-Out program.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her son, Robert Hanson, Shawnee; daughter Leann Dean, Midwest City; one brother, the Rev. Robert "Bob" McDowell, of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Pat Denney of Rogers, Ark.; and grandchildren, Kaleigh and Dawna.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rockford Johnson and the Rev. Bob McDowell officiating.

Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church Building Project.

Betty H. (Turner) Smith
Tecumseh resident Betty H. (Turner) Smith, 63, died Thursday, May 13, in Tecumseh.

She was born June 7, 1940, in Lamesa, Texas, to Hurshel and Mildra (Haley) Turner. Raised in Whitebead, she moved to Tecumseh in 1957 and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1958.

She married Gerald L. Smith on Dec. 24, 1958, and was a homemaker. She was a member of New Beginnings Church of Shawnee.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Smith of the home; daughter and son-law, Lesa and Derrick Mew of Shawnee; son, Kevin Smith of Tecumseh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charleen Henderson of Shawnee, Margaret and Van Kidney of Tecumseh, Jo Ann and Danny Cochran of Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Dixie Turner of Tecumseh, Michael and Leslie Turner of Stonewall, Texas; three granddaughters, Mindy Palmer, Kendra Smith and Jerica Mew; and many other relatives.

Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel of Tecumseh with the Rev. Larry Sparks and Harry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Susan M. Dexter
Susan M. Dexter, 55, of Midwest City died Friday, May 21, in a local hospital.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gaskill Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Garden Grove Cemetery in Meeker.

Julia A. Norrell
Harrah resident Julia A. Norrell, 78, died Friday, May 28, in Oklahoma City.

Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Newalla with the Rev. Griff Hendeson officiating.

Services are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service.

Bertie Mae Clark
Konawa resident Bertie Mae Clark, 84, died Thursday, June 3, in Konawa.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at the Church of Christ in Konawa with Richard Winters officiating. Burial will be at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Donald Floyd Scott
Harrah resident Donald Floyd Scott, 92, died Wednesday, June 9.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel.

Margarette Dowdy
Shawnee resident Margarette Dowdy, 68, died Wednesday, June 9, at a local hospital.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service.

Douglas Charles Hammer
Douglas "Doug" Charles Hammer, 58, of Carlton, Minn., died Feb. 13 in Superior, Wis.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shawnee VFW Post No. 1317, 811 E. MacArthur.

An earlier memorial service was held Sunday in Cloquet, Minn.

Mary C. White
Mary C. White of Seminole died Thursday at Seminole Medical Center. She was 94.
Surviving are four sons, Wallace White of Monument, Colo., Leon White of Wichita, Kan., Carol White of El Paso, Texas, Lloyd Carrell of Ruidoso, N.M.; daughter, Nell Myrick of Seminole; brother C.L. Tucker of Plano, Texas; fours sisters Eveleta Golleher, Emma Askins, Edith McGregor, and Jean Bateman, all of Abilene, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services are 9 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel of Seminole with a 2:30 p.m. graveside service at Stilwel Cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
