James H. Moore
James H. Moore, 61, of Shawnee died Sunday.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Moore; two sons, James Moore Jr. of Tuttle and Brian Moore of Tecumeh; daughter, Eva Marion of Winton, Calif.; sisters, Martha, Betty and Pat; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Vondel L. Smith and Sons Mortuary in Oklahoma City. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.

Juanita Haslett
Former Shawnee resident Juanita (Degraffenreid) Haslett, 77, of Onapa died Tuesday in Checotah.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Onapa Baptist Church under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Checotah.

Cathy Marie Brownlee
Cathy Marie Brownlee died at the age of 41.

Survivors include her mother, Francis, of Norman; a sister, Dawn Cotney; companion, Wayne Stowe; and a nephew, all of Newalla.

A private service was held for family members under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Home of Harrah.

Lovina Dean Day
Lovina Dean Washington Day, 69, of Choctaw died Wednesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born April 15, 1934, in Shawnee to Willie and Florene Washington. She grew up in the Shawnee area and attended Haskell.

After attending school, she returned to Shawnee and married Gilbert Day.

She was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe where she was an elder. She was past secretary to the tribe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Irene Washington Wilson, Pauline Washington Elephant and Norma Jean Washington; and a brother, Herman Washington.

Survivors include her children, Linda Day of Choctaw, Darnell Day of Choctaw, Vivian Day of Oklahoma City and George Michael Day of Oklahoma City; brothers, Kenneth Washington of Wichita, Kan., Curtis Washington of Shawnee and Algene Washington of Tecumseh; sister, Lois Fern Spoon of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Shawnee Tapia, Dakotah Tapia, Melissa Long and Maegan Hopki; one great-grandchild and many other relatives.

Wake services were held Thursday at the Horseshoe Bend Community Center.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Johnson Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Dale Turner
Dale Turner, 88, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and formerly of Seminole, died April 25.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of New Smyrna Beach; son, John of New Smyrna Beach; and sister, Thaida Simpson of Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of Settle-Wilder Funeral Home and Cremation Service in New Smyrna Beach.

Helen Louise Speer
Former Shawnee resident Helen Louise Speer, 52, died April 10 in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

She was born Aug. 25, 1950, in Lathem, Kan., to Dr. Fredrick and Mrs. Jeannette Speer.

Speer attended Washington University, where she earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Spanish.

She later attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law and graduated in 1987.

Upon receiving her law degree, Speer worked as an attorney in Shawnee until she relocated to Edmond in 1992.

Survivors include her mother, Jeannette Speer; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Thomas Chinn and Florencia Ardon of Hanover, Germany; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carolyn Jeannette Chinn of Tallahassee, Fla., and Sarah Chinn Herndon and Scott Herndon of Birmingham, Ala.; six sisters, Susan Porter, Mary Rogeness, Martha Speer, Julia Munson, Ruthie Ludwig and Clara Speer; and two brothers, Stuart Speer and Mark Speer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Shawnee.

Memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America.

Bennie Wildcat
Lifelong Seminole resident Bennie Wildcat, 76, died Thursday at a Seminole hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Wildcat of the home; sons, Jay Wildcat, Wilburn Wildcat and Casey Wildcat, all of Seminole; daughters, Mable Marshall of Seminole, Phyllis Belfellah of Illinois, Sandra Akkasiriskul of Illinois and Judy Culberson of Wewoka; grandchildren, Justin Jay Wildcat Jr., Thomas Wildcat, Dillion J. Wildcat, Deandra Wildcat, Deon Wildcat, James Marshall, Sarah Marshall, Terry Michelle Marshall, Adam Belfellah, Bruce Akkasiriskul, Leah Akkasiriskul, Keturah Akkasiriskul, Julie Gordon and Tommy Culberson; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Servcies will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bird Creek Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa with the Rev. Jeffie Factor officiating. Burial will follow at the Wildcat Family Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Linda Ann Burnham
Linda Ann Burnham, 59, of Bethlehem, Pa., died Sunday, at a Bethlehem, Pa., hospital.

She had been an licensed practical nurse for community services in Bethlehem Township for four years and for the past six months was employed by Lifepath in Coplay, Pa.

She was a member of St John's Lutheran Church in Shawnee.

Burnham was born Aug. 7, 1943, in New London, Conn., and was the daughter of Winifred (Heins) Weigant of Shawnee and the late Dean Martin Weigant.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years Walter F. Burnham of Bethlehem, Pa.

She also is survived by her mother; two daughters, Lisa Upton of Norman and Laura Manners of Shelburne Falls, Mass., son, Christopher Spaugy of Shawnee; two sisters, Marie Wiedekehr of El Paso, Texas, and Patricia Weigant of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two brothers, Michael Weigant of Choctaw and James Weigant of Denver; and eight grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Connell Funeral Home Inc., 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, Pa. The service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Connell Funeral Home.

Minnie Lucas
Harrah resident Minnie Lucas, 94, formerly of Shawnee, Ada and Holdenville, died April 27 in Harrah.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Gary Carmichael of McLoud; a sister, Esther Adams of Holdenville; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were April 28, with burial in the Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of the Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.

Alta Bryant Dent
Former area resident Alta Bryant Dent, 84, died Sunday in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include her children, Gary Edward Bryant, Darla Bryant Riddle, Gloria Bryant Moyer, Harvey Steven Bryant; a stepdaughter, Dorthlyn Gaddis; sister, Oleta Sumpter; grandchildren, Jan Cecille Anderson Zechiel, Holly Bryant Palm, Becky Riddle, Steven Riddle, Michelle Moyer Justen, Devin Moyer Graham, Stephanie Bryant, Julie Bryant; six great-grandchildren, and lifelong friend, Wilma Garroutte.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Village Baptist Church of Oklahoma City. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park of Shawnee under the direction of Vondel Smith Mortuary North of Oklahoma City.

Claudine Ball
Claudine Ball, 79, formerly of Seminole County, died Saturday.

She was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Hulbert, to John and Mary Elizabeth Cawvey. She attended high school at Strother in the Little community, outside Seminole.

She was a homemaker and worked in the children's and women's departments at Street's in Shepherd Mall.

She was a member of the Del City Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Ball, on Jan. 24, 2003; her parents, and siblings, Don and Maxine Cawvey, Wynona Dollar, Jon Cawvey, Glen Cawvey and Wanda McLemore.

Survivors include her sister, Imogene Weston; her children, Ann Schneider and husband Dutch of Del City; Bill Ball and wife Marj of Webb City, Mo.; Jane and husband Mike Murphy of Cedar Park, Texas; Greg and wife Janelle Ball of Garland, Texas; Cynthia Goodwin of Winsdor, Colo.; David Ball and wife Michelle of Kremmling, Colo; nine grandchildren, Kelly and Brandon Schneider, Stephanie Allsbury, Eric Ball, Jennifer Ball, Jonathan Ball, Jill Ball, Mary and Katy Murphy, and two great-granddaughters, Sydney Allsbury and Alyssa Schneider.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Homes of Del City. Graveside service will be 4 p.m. at the Little Cemetery in Seminole.

Margaret Sykora
Former Shawnee resident Margaret Sykora, 74, died Sunday in Purcell.

She was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Oklahoma to Hugh and Gladys Barnes. She grew up in the Earlsboro area and graduated from Prairie Valley. After graduation, she worked as a sales clerk at Kress until 1963 and was a homemaker until the mid-1970s when she went to work for Wal-Mart. She retired in 1985 and became an Avon consultant for several years.

She married Robert V. Sykora on June 10, 1951, at St. Benedict Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 1994.

She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, a member of the Altar Society, past Camp Fire leader, coached girls basketball briefly at St. Benedict's High School.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Barnes, and sister, Elaine Jeffcoat.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Louis Zuech of Purcell; sisters and brother-in-law, Georgia and J.W. Welbourn of Meeker, Eleanor Hammonds of Pryor; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Retha Barnes of Tecumseh, Leroy and Susie Barnes of Midwest City, Dayton Barnes, Darrell Barnes, Kenneth and Carolyn Barnes of Shawnee; grandchildren, Andy, Keith, Pamela, Amber, Michael and Melissa; lifelong best friend, Delores (Shorty) Calvary of Tecumseh, and other relatives.

Services will be noon Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Freddy Paul Holson
Freddy Paul Holson, 52, of Tulsa died Saturday at his home.

Services are pending with Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy Alberta Whitehead
Harrah resident Dorothy Alberta Whitehead, 97, died Sunday in Harrah.

Survivors include nephews and nieces-in-law, William and Anita Wiese of Jemison, Ala., and Robert and Margaret Wiese of Freesoil, Mich.; and one niece, Phyllis Jeffery of LaCenter, Wash.

Graveside services were 11 a.m. Monday at Summit Ridge Cemetery in Harrah.

Arrangements were under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.

Charles Winters
Charles Leroy Winters, 74, died Thursday in Oklahoma City.

He was born July 29, 1928, in Oklahoma City to Luther Smith and Mary Jane (McKiddy) Winters.

On Aug. 22, 1952, he married Jacqueline C. Ford in Oklahoma City.

A graduate of Norman High School, he earned his bachelor of science degree in industrial education from the University of Oklahoma in 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of captain.

Winters taught high school for two years. He retired in 1986 after 28 years of employment with FAA as a senior air instructor. He served as the secretary of the board for City Rescue Mission for 17 years and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was active in Boy Scouts of America earning the Silver Beaver Award.

Winters is survived by his wife, Jacqueline C. Winters of the home; three sons, Dr. Monty Winters and wife Marita of Pink, Mark D. Winters and wife June of Irvine, Calif., and Matt Winters and wife Jennifer of Richardson, Texas; two daughters, Martha Winters of Oklahoma City and Melissa Long and husband Larry of Midland, Texas; one foster son, Mike Vo of Arlington, Texas; one brother, E. Kenneth Winters of Tulsa; one sister, June Barker and husband Bud of Sulphur; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Callie Pearl Winters; and one brother, Melvin P. Winters MIA - Korean War.

Donations may be made to the Southwestern District/C&MA for the Charles L. Winters Leathercraft Program fund.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Charles V. Burghart
Charles V. Burghart, 78, of McLoud died Friday in Midwest City.

Survivors include his brother, Clyde Keith Burghart of Harrah; sister-in-law, Pat Burghart of Broken Arrow; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were 2 p.m. Monday at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah. Burial followed at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah.

Arrangements were under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.
