Lucy Juanita Beck
Lucy Juanita Beck, 82, Shawnee, died Thursday at Shawnee Care Center.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Doyle Loveland officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home.

Survivors include her stepson, Dan Beck, Shawnee; son, Jack Wayland of Oklahoma City; daughter, Jacquin Ann Garcia of Van Buren, Ark.; sister, Mary Lawless of Tracy, Calif.; her niece and caregiver, Connie L. Barnes-Eggleston of Shawnee; nephew, C.W. Barnes of McAlester, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.

Johnie Fae Embry
Johnie Fae Embry of Stratford died Wednesday in Shawnee. She was 88.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Gene and Jevita Embry of Howard, Colo.; John C. and Linda Embry of Ada; Jack and Barbara Embry of Coaldale, Colo.; daughter, Margaret Frankovich of Tecumseh, and daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Don Jones of Stratford.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel in Stratford with the Rev. Richard Atzbach officiating. Burial will follow at McGee Cemetery in Stratford.

Matthew Allan Hascall
Matthew Allan Hascall, 4 of Tecumseh, OK passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2003. He was born to Allan Ray and Michelle Ann (Engles) Hascall on June 24,1998 in Oklahoma City, OK. He came to Tecumseh in 1999 previously living in Moore, OK. Matthew attended the Liberty Daily Bible School in Shawnee and Antioch Christian Church. Matthew was known for making his famous funny faces and bringing laughter to those around him. He enjoyed with great pride riding his own horse Flicka. Matthew enjoyed being with his relatives such as going and spending time with grandma Beverly, helping Mom work on making scrapbooks, baking cookies with aunt Rebecca and aunt Alisha, going four wheeling with uncle Robbie, singing songs with grandma Juanita, and playing with baby Cody. He also loved to work cattle with his grandpa Ray, Dad, and his sister. He always looked forward to going fishing with grandpa Bob, uncle Robbie, and uncle Chris. Matthew is survived by his parents Allan and Michelle Hascall, sister Staci, paternal grandparents; Ray and Juanita Hascall, maternal grandparents; Bob and Beverly Engles, maternal great-grandparent Nadine "Grandma" Schroeder, aunt Rebecca Clyma & husband Chris, uncle Robbie Engles & wife Alisha, and cousins Cody Clyma and Wesley Engles. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Ben Schroeder, Francis and Reba Engles, Eugene and Annie Hascall, and Lloyd and Betty Barnett. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, 5/17/2003 at the Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK with burial in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Burse L. Borden
Burse L. Borden of Shawnee died Sunday at a Norman nursing home at the age of 88.

He was born July 24, 1914, east of Shawnee, to J.E. and Pammie Borden.

Borden graduated from Shawnee High School and farmed east of Shawnee.

He later operated a bulk gasoline plant and gasoline station on East Main.

He began work as a home builder in the mid-1940s and continued that for more than 50 years.

Borden married Helen Mashburn in 1939.

He was a member and deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher and past president of the State Brotherhood Association.

Borden was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Gladys Wallis of Shawnee and Esther Holmes of Midwest City.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Borden of Norman; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Harold Wall of Choctaw, Becky and Steve Rosenbaum of Lewisville, Texas, and Elaine B. Craig of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Kim Borden of Camano Island, Wash.; sister, Opal Gregory; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Marlan Clinton Banta Sr.
Marlan Clinton Banta Sr., 71, of Purcell died Monday in Norman.

He was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Asher to John and Pearl (Sims) Banta.

Banta grew up in Asher and Harjo.

He was a graduate of Harjo High School.

He married Mary Ruth Day on June 21, 1950, in Gainesville, Texas. They lived throughout Oklahoma and Texas and also lived overseas. They lived in Purcell since 1998.

Banta served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He held several supervisory positions in the petroleum industry.

Banta was preceded in death by one son, Marlan Clinton Banta Jr., his parents; two brothers, John and Coy Banta; and two sisters, Cleo Haskell and Juanita Carrol.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Banta of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Marla Banta and Mike McBride of Jennings, Tempest and Ron Sullivan of Sapulpa; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Linda Banta of Purcell, Coy W. and Tedi Banta of Houston, and Florence Banta of Healdton; sisters, Hazel Cossey of Shawnee and Imojean Young of Washington; brother, Bob Banta of Odessa, Texas; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Ross Roger Gahring
Ross Roger Gahring, 83, of Shawnee died Sunday at Sapulpa.

He was born March 21, 1920, at Mt. Vernon, Mo., to William Ross and Neva (Rogers) Gahring.

Gahring attended Oklahoma Military Academy and the University of Oklahoma. He was a geologist.

He married Wilma Jean Boone on May 21, 1942, in Claremore. He served in the U.S. Army.

Gahring was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He lived in Shawnee since 1964.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Jean Gahring Davison; and grandson, Corey Davison.

Survivors include sons, Stanley Gahring of Cleveland and Craig Gahring of Sapulpa; brother, Richard Gahring of Gulfport, Miss.; sister-in-law, Catherine Boone Roberts of Claremore; six grandchildren and one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Arthur Scrutchins officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Jimmie Jane Roemer
Jimmie Jane Roemer, 81, of Shawnee died Saturday at her home.

She was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Ardmore to Wilbur and Dessie Grisham.

Roemer attended Healdton High School.

She was a homemaker, retail manager and business owner of Roemer's Jewelry.

She married Steve H. Roemer in 1942 in Wichita, Kan. They were married for 56 years.

Roemer was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She was honored by Ray Charles on her 80th birthday.

Survivors include her children, Steve E. Roemer of Little Rock, Ark., Janis Frazier of Shawnee and Mickey Roemer of Las Vegas; sisters, Joyce Hickman and Jean Morgan; brother, Hershal Grisham; grandchildren, Romi Doering, Rhett Frazier, Sam Roemer and Casi Frazier.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Arthur Scrutchins officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Vivian D. Phillips
Former Shawnee resident Vivian D. Phillips, 85, died Saturday at an Oklahoma City nursing home.

Services pending with Resthaven Funeral Home.

Hazel D. (Thompson) O'Neal
Hazel D. (Thompson) O'Neal, 88, of Shawnee died Friday at a local hospital.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Delma and Jon McCown of Shawnee; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Fleeta Noble of Tulsa; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Chapel with Chris Stinnett officiating.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Benny Joe Tebe
Longtime Seminole resident Benny Joe Tebe, 65, of Sapulpa died Thursday at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Jo Tebe of the home; two step-grandchildren; four brothers, Lloyd Tebe of Lawrence, Kan., Jimmy Tebe of Sasakwa, Paul Tebe of Sasakwa and Vernon Tebe of Konawa; and a sister, Lucy, of the home.

A wake service will be 6:30 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Dorothy Meeker LaFoy
Shawnee resident Dorothy Meeker LaFoy, 94, died Friday at a local nursing home.

She was born Feb. 24, 1908, in Meeker to Julian L. and Letitia (Lafollette) Meeker, for whom the city of Meeker was named. She attended Meeker Schools and married John H. LaFoy on Nov. 4, 1929.

She also had lived in Pauls Valley, Texas, California and, in her later years, Shawnee. She retired from John A. Brown Company in 1970. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday School class.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jon Kinnett; a granddaughter, Karen Hyatt, and grandson, Steve Kinnett, and a great-grandson, Jon Maxwell Hyatt, all of Santa Fe, N.M.; two nephews, Pat Odell and wife Lavelle of Midwest City and James B. Odell of Arlington, Texas; and two nieces, Hazel Durbin of Pauls Valley and Jimmie Ruth Hutchison of Houston, Texas.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Dr. Larry Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

The family will meet at Immanuel Baptist Church following the graveside service.

Goldia D. Ford
Goldia D. Ford, 85, Shawnee, died Saturday at a local nursing home.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Lola Mae Boggs
Lola Mae Boggs, 92, of Alma, Ark. ,died Saturday in Alma.

She was born Jan. 16, 1911, in Washita County to John and Mattie (Harden) Morris.

She married William C. Boggs on Nov. 19, 1929. Following her marriage, the couple moved to a farm at Macomb in November 1933, where they raised cattle and sheep and planted hay, grain and pecan trees.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1991.

She registered voters and worked on election day at the polls. She worked as relief sub-postmaster until the postmaster retired, and was appointed postmaster until another one was hired for the Macomb Post Office in the early 1970s.

She was a member of the Macomb Home Demonstration Club and the Pottawatomie County Home Demonstration Club, where she held all of the local and county offices from secretary to president.

Later, the couple moved to an acreage east of Tecumseh.

She was a member of the East Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Roy Morris and Eugene Morris; sister, Eva Lee Boggs; and grandson, Curtis Clay Boggs.

Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law, Mildred Louise Boone of Tecumseh and Verna Bell and Darrell Goodpasture of Alma, Ark.; son and daughter-in-law, Norman Clay and Joyce Boggs of Seminole; sisters, Addie Colbert of Albany, Ore., Dorothy Walker of Clinton, Lora Mae Walker of Mountain View and Leona Maupin of Cordell; brother, Elmer Moore of Cordell; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday with David, Mark and Douglas Goodpasture officiating at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Anna Faye Lee
Lifelong Seminole resident Anna Faye Lee, 60, died Friday at a Seminole nursing home.

Survivors include her father, O.U. "Pinto" Gray of Talihina; sons and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Mindy Bland of Shawnee and Kevin Bland of Euless, Texas; and sister, Norma Wilcox Stone of Seminole.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, with Freeman Whitlock and Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Chandler resident James Edward Clark, 71, died Monday in Chandler.

Services are pending in Riverside, Calif., under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.
