Alvin Earl Sherman
Longtime Chandler resident Alvin Earl Sherman, 79, died Friday in Oklahoma City.

He was born June 3, 1922, near Chandler, the son of Aden and Rebecca (Butler) Sherman.

On June 11, 1948, he married Virginia Hurtt in Van Buren, Ark.

Sherman served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He owned an automobile sales and service business in Chandler for more than 50 years.

Sherman was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Sherman of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Terry and Denise Sherman of Chandler and Duane Sherman of Tulsa and Judy Lasiter, also of Tulsa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Steve Semtner of Shawnee and Linda and James Powers of Oklahoma City; one brother, Allen Sherman of Chandler; one sister, Barbara Mullen of Pottsboro, Texas; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler, with burial at Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler. The Rev. Lee Lee Lewis will officiate the service, which is under the direction of Parks Brothers.

Violet Irene Turner-Ferree
Violet Irene Turner-Ferree, 70, of Moore died Friday.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Turner of Shawnee; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Darla Turner of Comanche, Danny and Linda Ferree of Moore and Darron and Arlene Ferree of Oklahoma City; three granddaughters; five grandsons; two great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; her mother, Priscilla Anderson, of Lubbock, Texas; three brothers, Charles Anderson, Eddie Anderson and Kenny Anderson; and four sisters, Louise Stanford, Bonnie Caples, Kathy McIntosh and Donna Pernell.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Living Word Fellowship, Moore, with Pastor Mark Aduddell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Cobb.

Winifred Fidler Claxton
Winifred (Edgin) Fidler Claxton, 79, a former Tecumseh resident, died Saturday in Norman. Services are pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Jerry Lynn Wilson
Jerry Lynn Wilson, 61, of Shawnee died Tuesday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born Dec. 29, 1941, in Tecumseh to Roy and Mae Wilson.

He graduated from Earlsboro High School.

He was a former Shawnee police officer, owned several Shawnee service stations and at the time of his death was a rancher.

He married Joqueta Bowden on May 15, 1970, in Little.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the American Quarter Horse Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Joqueta Wilson of the home; children and their spouses, Crystal Bowden of Denison, Texas, Robin Schaueten of Norman, Mark and Terresia Bowden of Shawnee, Karen and Tim Terrel of Noble, Kelly Elliott of Midwest City, Roger Wilson of Shawnee and Penny and Billy Factor of Shawnee; stepson, Bill Floyd of Catoosa; sisters, Shirley Martin, Nancy Cofer, Anaroy Stroud, Deloris Coker, Becky Langenfeld and Geneva Rider; stepsisters, Betty Haley and Louise Tate; two stepsisters, Betty Haley and Louise Tate; 20 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating, assisted by the Rev. Don Forsberg. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Andrew Jackson Harper
Andrew "Jay" Jackson Harper, 73, Choctaw, died Wednesday at a Harrah care center.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce L. Harper of the home; two sons, Gary J. Harper of Choctaw; and Tony Harper of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Harper of Columbia, S.C., Richard Harper of Oklahoma City and Steve Chaney of Oklahoma City; and one sister, Dolores Taliaferro of Norman.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Jordan officiating. Burial will be at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

John Charles Grubb
John Charles "Chuck" Grubb, 60, of Tecumseh died Sunday, May 25, in Tecumseh.

He was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Charleston, Ark., to John D. and Hester (Neuhart) Grubb. He was a graduate of Fort Smith High School.

He grew up in Charleston, Ark., and Fort Smith, Ark. He also lived in Louisiana and Cushing before moving to Tecumseh in 1979.

He married Glenda Eaton on April 5, 1974, in Hattiesburg, Miss.

He worked as an auditor for the state of Oklahoma. He and his wife owned and operated appliance stores in Cushing and Tecumseh.

He raised and maintained race horses.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; daughter, Suzette Loraine Grubb of the home, and her fiancé, Jonathan Tomlin of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Glen Allan and Pamela Grubb of Tecumseh; mother, Hester (Neuhart) Grubb of Fort Smith; sisters, and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Robbie Crawford of Fort Smith and Kay and Charles Mendenhall of Bonanza, Ark.; and sister-in-law, Judith Loraine Eaton of Friendswood, Texas.

Gravesides services were May 28 at Dale Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Crawford officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Lovie Jones Ellison
Lovie Jones Ellison, 93, of Prague died Saturday in Prague.

Survivors include a brother, Otis Jones of McAlester; sisters, Florence Broyles of Arizona, Verna Heinzig of Arizona, Agnes Williams of Prague, Ella Broyles of Tulsa and Doris Huff of Prague; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were Tuesday in the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Steve Roach officiating. Burial followed in the Prague Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague.

Henry A. Witcher
Henry A. Witcher, 95, of Shawnee died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City nursing home.

He was born May 12, 1907, in Honey Grove, Texas, the son of John Luter and Sarah Jane (Mooreman) Witcher.

Witcher was a graduate of Boswell High School, Boswell, Okla., and was an engineering student at Oklahoma State University for 1 1/2 years. In 1927, he was employed by Sinclair Oil and Gas Co. in its oil and gas products department in Seminole.

He began as a roustabout electrician. He later advanced to plant chief control chemist in Seminole then to plant chief engineer in Oklahoma City.

He was plant superintendent in Seminole and in Barnhart, Texas. He served as Tulsa Division and Gulf Coast Division superintendent. He was Mid-Continent Region manager, in Tulsa, when he retired in 1969.

Witcher was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Berthyl Steen Witcher and Rachel Wasson Witcher, and a brother, James Leroy Witcher.

Survivors include his wife, Jane von Storch Baptist Witcher of the home; a daughter, Henrietta Matthews of Oklahoma City; a son, Philip Witcher of Edmond; a sister, Lola Mae Witcher of Chandler; a sister-in-law, Floriene Witcher of Chandler; two stepsons, Wilson Baptist III of Shawnee and Richard Baptist of Norman; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Baptist Maples of Austin, Texas, Ann Baptist Wyche of Paris, Texas, and DeAnga Hill of Citrus Heights, Calif.; a niece, Jane Bridges of Chandler; 23 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A service will be 10 a.m. today at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee with the Rev. Janie Kirt Morris and the Rev. Art Scrutchins officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 501 N. Broadway, Shawnee, OK 74801 or the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 E. Sunrise Dr., Tucson, AZ 85718-3208.

Arrangements are being handled by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Nell Johnson McClung
Nell Johnson McClung, 83, of McLoud died Tuesday in a Midwest City hospital. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dale Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Levina Charlotte Sires
Shawnee resident Levina Charlotte Sires, 72, died Thursday in Shawnee.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Further information is pending with Walker Funeral Home of Shawnee.

Jeff Blassingame
Jeff Blassingame of Shawnee, 82, died Wednesday at a local hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Biddy Blassingame of the home; four children, James and wife Brenda Blassingame, Shawnee, Donnie Blassingame of Shawnee, Steve and wife Diane Blassingame, Shawnee, and Cindy and husband George Halbert of Shawnee; seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Baldridge officiating.

Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Lillian V. Lang
Shawnee resident Lillian V. "Lilly" Lang, 71, died May 3 at a local nursing home.

She was born May 25, 1930, in Wyandotte, Mich., to Lawrence and Martha (Collins) Gillis.

She was married to Donald Lang.

She worked as a restaurant manager and attended St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Lang, Shawnee; two sons, Donald Lang of Fredericksburg, Va., and Bradley Warrick of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three granddaughters, Heather and Tessa Lang and Tiffany Warrick; and grandson, Robert Warrick.

Service will be noon today at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee.

Jimmy Dale Reese
Jimmy Dale Reese, 58, of Brighton, Colo., and formerly of Shawnee, died May 31 in a Denver hospital.

He was born April 8, 1945, in Shawnee to Chester and Ruth Reese.

He attended Shawnee schools and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1962. He attended East Central University in Ada.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 15, 1964, and was a staff sergeant in the 173th Airborne Infantry. He served two tours in Vietnam and was discharged July 31, 1969.

He was a member of Northglen Baptist Church in Colorado and was employed by Richmond Homes.

He married Christine Teague on Sept. 29, 1986, in Denver.

He was preceded in death by his father and his first grandchild, Matthew Treece.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Reese, of the home; mother, Ruth Reese of Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Lorne Bain of Choctaw, Shelly and Harold Treece of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Reese and Robyn Grey; stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Teressa Teague, Michelle Teague and Robert Medina, all of Brighton, Colo.; grandchildren, Willy and Starla Bain of Choctaw, Glori and James Treece of Shawnee; stepgranddaughters, Jennifer Medina and Jessica Teague of Brighton, Colo.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doyle and Sonja Reese of Shawnee and Richard Reese and Nelda Brooke of Eufaula; many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

A service was May 30, 2003 at St. Luke's Presbyterian Hospital in Denver with the Rev. Nancy Anderson officiating.

Memorial services with full military honors were Thursday at Fort Logan, Colo., with the Rev. Daryl Meyers officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Aspen Mortuary of Commerce City, Colo.
