Funeral Services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, September 26, 2003 at First Indian Baptist Church wi th Bro.Tony Tiger, Bro. Jesse Hernandes, & Bro. Don Tiger officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Nomah Lee Trachsel
Nomah Lee "Johnnie" Trachsel died Thursday, Sept. 11, in San Antonio, Texas. She was 76 years old.

She was born May 9, 1927, in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Norman D. Trachsel Sr., USAF (Ret.).

She is survived by her son, Norman D. Trachsel Jr. and wife Janie; a daughter, Michelle M. Donahue; a son, William F. Trachsel; a brother, Harold D. Johnson and wife Helen; a sister, Irma Jean Sparks and husband Howard; and five grandchildren, Kelly, Jimmy, Maggie, Taylor and Katy.

Services were held in Texas and burial was in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Porter Loring Mortuary North was in charge of all arrangements.

Terry L. Ockert
Meeker resident Terry L. Ockert, 41, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, in Meeker.

He was born July 12, 1962, in Newhall Calif., to Fred Eugene and Pauline Ann (Wharry) Ockert.

He was raised in California and moved to Wichita, Kan., in 1979. He had lived in Meeker for the past six years. He worked in construction most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts, uncles and one nephew.

He is survived by his parents, Fred Ockert of Shawnee and Pauline Wharry of Meeker; three sons, Terry Ockert Jr., Tommy Ockert and Kevin Ockert, all of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters, Randel Ockert and April Ockert, both of Wichita, Kan.; five brothers, Fred Ockert Jr. of Lancaster, Calif., Bill Ockert of Colorado Springs, Colo., Randy Ockert of Wichita, Kan., Ernie Ockert of Wichita, Kan., and Jason Ockert of Wichita, Kan., four sisters, Beth Hurt of Wichita, Kan., Peggy Looper of Eureka, Kan., Melody Ticknor of Shawnee and Marcey McGee of Caney, Kan.; one grandson, 16 nephews and 11 nieces.

Graveside service is 10 a.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating.

Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh is in charge of all arrangements.

Nettie Jane Lea
Lifelong Pottawatomie County resident Nettie Jane Lea, 81, died Friday, Sept. 26, in Shawnee.

She was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Saint Louis, Okla., to Francis Wade and Mittie Maine (Hurst) Lancaster. She married Fred Lea on April 12, 1943, in Shawnee.

She owned and operated the Lake Road Poodle Shop.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, F.W. "Spud" Lea of Shawnee; a daughter, Beverly Ann Smith of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Dana Childers and Robert Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Sierra Childers, Garrett Childers and Logan Childers.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Henry Shaffer
Seminole resident Henry Shaffer died Thursday, Sept. 25, at his home. He was 97 years old.

Survivors include his stepson, Mike McCown of Tulsa; stepdaughters, Glenda Lay of Bowlegs and Barbara Chaffin of Broken Arrow; his brother, Pete Shaffer of Sand Springs; his sister, Dorothy Johnson of McAlester; a niece, Lila Kirkpatrick of Dallas, Texas; and 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bowlegs First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Woodland Memorial Park in Sand Springs. Randy McCown and Glen Pence will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

David Pecore
Shawnee resident David Pecore, 51, died Thursday, Sept. 25, in Norman.

Prayer service will be 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Mass of Christian Burial will be noon Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Further arrangements will be announced by Walker Funeral Service.

Ven Stramski
Harrah resident Ven Stramski died Thursday, Sept. 25, at the age of 79.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Stramski of Harrah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Susan Stramski and Donald and Anita Stramski, all of Harrah; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Tom Rolen of Edmond, Janette and David Dye of Yukon and Jeri and Randy Minnick of Newalla; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Andrew and Anna Stramski and Lewis and Lynn Stramski, all of Harrah; two sisters, Christine Farley of Gulf Shores, Ala., and Susie Chavez of Del City; and seven grandchildren.

Rosary and wake service will be 6:45 p.m. Sunday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Harrah. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church with the Rev. Eugene Marshall officiating. Burial will be at St. Teresa's Catholic Cemetery in Harrah.

Services are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.

Betty Jeanne Elkins
Tecumseh resident Betty Jeanne Elkins died Thursday, Sept. 25, in Shawnee. She was 81 years old.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Prairie View Cemetery in Macomb with the Rev. W.F. Crow officiating.

Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Georgia Walker
Evelyn Georgia (Taylor) Walker, 88, of Newalla died Thursday, Sept. 25, in Shawnee.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy G. and Ruth Walker of Newalla and Larry and Sue Walker of Newalla; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Stanley Mayer Jr., of Newalla; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the First Baptist church of Newalla with the Rev. Griff Henderson and Chaplain Bill Derrick officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smiths-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.

Frances Bowers
Shawnee resident Frances Bowers, 73, died Friday, Sept. 26, in Shawnee.

Services will be 2 p.m. on Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Directions are under the arrangement of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Sylvia Ann Sweetland
Former Shawnee resident Sylvia Ann Sweetland died Wednesday, Sept. 24, at a Washington hospital. She was 55 years old.

Sweetland was born Oct. 29, 1947, in Livingston, Texas, to George R. Sweetland and Odessa Amelia (Donnahue) Sweetland.

She was raised in Oklahoma and Texas. She lived in Shawnee before moving to Port Angeles, Wash., in 2000.

Sweetland worked at the sheltered workshop Center of Family Love. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and many aunts and uncles.

Survivors include her sisters, Annette Guinn and husband Ralph of Port Angeles, Wash., Darlene Wilson of Edinboro, Pa., and Amelia Long of Williston, N.D.; one brother, Richard Sweetland of Kansas City, Mo., and five nephews, five nieces, four great-nieces and two great-nephews.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. James Inman officiating.

Gaskill Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.

James A. Graves
Newalla resident James A. Graves died Friday, Sept. 26, in Norman. He was 59 years old.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Betty Jeanne Elkins
Betty Jeanne Elkins of Tecumseh died Thursday, Sept. 25, in Shawnee at the age of 81.

She was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Macomb to Jacob Corbin and Clara (Leeper) Bailey. She attended school in Macomb and Columbia, Mo. In 1943, she graduated from Oklahoma State University.

During World War II, she worked at Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma City producing C-47s. After the war, she worked in state child welfare in Oklahoma City.

She married Jack Harwood Lamar Elkins on Sept. 6, 1946, after his naval tour of duty in World War II. They ran the family farm near Macomb. They also moved around Oklahoma, Texas and Idaho. She was active in church, sewing and bridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Elkins of Tecumseh; daughters and son-in-law, Joyce Lee and John Warren of Norman; daughter, Jane Elkins of Tiburon, Calif.; son, Neal Lamar Elkins of Tecumseh; son and daughter-in-law, David Bailey and Gay Elkins of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Warren VanDerLaan of Tianjin, China; Alyson Elkins Adler of New York; Leigh Anne Warren of Norman; Jordan Elkins and Shane Elkins of Wichita, Kan., and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Prairie View Cemetery in Macomb with the Rev. W.F. Crow officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or another charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.

Etta E. Brown
Etta E. Brown, 84, of Tecumseh died Saturday, Sept. 27, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

James A. Graves
Newalla resident James A. Graves, 59, died Friday, Sept. 26, in Norman.

He was born, Dec. 21, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Franklin J. and Daisy L. (McClain) Graves. Reared in Newalla, he attended school in Stella, Norman and Bethel.

He married Billie Wise, Nov. 7, 1986, in Shawnee and worked for 25 years at Smith Textane in Tecumseh.

Graves was a retired member of Pink Volunteer Fire Department.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, LeRoy Graves.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Wise of the home; two brothers, Carl Graves of Newalla and Joe Graves of Tecumseh; a niece, a nephew and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Delbert Akin and Dwight Wise officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Ruth Ilean (Wilson) Lake-Tilton
Ruth Ilean (Wilson) Lake-Tilton, 93, of Jackson's Gap, Ala., died Friday, Sept. 26, in Tallapoosa County, Ala.

She was born Aug. 5, 1910, in Norman, to Charles Edward and Pearl Marion Summers Wilson. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was a night auditor at the Sahara Tahoe Hotel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Edwin A. Lake and Webster Nathaniel Tilton; one brother, Harry Edward Wilson, and two grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Lee and Edna Tilton of Jackson's Gap, Ala., and Edwin Aaron "Jack" and Jeneen Lake of Nevada; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tecumseh Cemetery.
