Davis

Betty Jane Davis, 72, longtime Quartz Mountain resident, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Elkview General Hospital in Hobart. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Blair with the Revs. Randy Mitchell and Gene Foreman officiating. Burial was at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of People's Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf.

Davis was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Boerne, Texas, to Wister Fleming and Cora Lee Hicks Gaines. She graduated from City View School in 1945.

She married Scott Davis on Oct. 7, 1944, in Mangum. They owned and operated Scott & Betty's Bait Shop at Quartz Mountain State Park since 1957. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Davis was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include: her husband Scott; one son, Fred Wayne Davis and his wife Wanda, Blair; one daughter, Saundra Burrow and her husband Dwight, Quartz Mountain; one sister, Fern Christian, Farwell, Texas and four grandchildren, Greg Davis, Chad Burrow, Marcia Brooks and Dustin Burrow.

Dobbs

A memorial service has been set for Evelyn Dobbs at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at the First United Methodist Church. A private interment at Restlawn Cemetery will precede the service. Family members will receive friends at the home of Charles and Mary Dobbs, 308 Lakeside Drive, from 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday evening.

Dobbs died in Alexandria, Va. on Dec. 21, 1999.

Dosher

Services for Josiephene Dosher, 77, Tipton, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Tipton. The Rev. Troy Taylor and the Rev. John Corbin officiating. Burial will follow at the Tipton Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. She died Saturday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Kingston, Texas to Al Walter and Rachel Albert Collie Browning. She attended Laing and Headrick schools. She married Elmo Dosher July 3, 1947 in Vernon, Texas. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1986. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Untied Methodist Church in Tipton.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Betty Dosher of Tipton and W.H. and Verna Dosher of Amarillo, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Wally Tharpe of Pasadena, Texas and Lizzie and Robert Akin of Olton, Texas; a twin sister, Jo Brown of Lindsay, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a son, Jimmie Samples; three brothers, El, Carzine and Claude Browning; two sisters, Elizabeth "Doodle" Hatcher, and Perlee Britt; and a grandson, Benny Akin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in memory of Josiephene Dosher.

Drury

Graveside services for Troy L. Drury, 72 of Altus, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26 at the Altus Restlawn Cemetery with Bill Osborne officiating under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He died Jan. 22, 2000 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

He was born Sept. 26, 1927 in Olustee to Nolan and Leona Cargill Drury. He attended Harmony, Olustee and Porter schools. He married Viola Powell Oct. 10, 1971 in Altus. He was a career firefighter and was a member of the Oklahoma Firefighters Association as well as the National Riflemans Association. He loved animals, guns, fishing and was a collector.

He was preceded in death by his father, wife, a son Charles Gene "Chuck" Drury and two stepdaughters, Carolyn Admire and Sharon Thompson.

He is survived by his mother, Leona Drury of Altus; daughter Nyeeta and husband Darryl Smith, Altus; two sons, Troy B. Drury and wife Kathy, Chickasha, and Terry Drury and wife Diane, Blair; three stepdaughters, Judy and husband Bill Reynolds, Sand Angelo, Texas, Marilyn Jay, San Angelo, and Joyce and husband Dennis Turner, Wichita, Kansas; a stepson Paul Tripplett and wife Sue, Dorsey, Illinois; a sister Gloria Porter, Altus; a brother Eldon Drury, Altus; 25 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and many friends.

Duke

Vera Duke, 90, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Cedar Creek Nursing Center in Norman. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today at St. Michael's Episcopal Church with Father Rick Burris officiating. Interment followed at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Mayes Funeral Directors.

Duke was born Dec. 18, 1909, in Hollis, to Carl and Lela Johnson. She attended school in Hollis. She was married to Doc Duke. He preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1981. A daughter, Retha Irons, also preceded her in death in 1993.

Duke enjoyed photography, sewing and cooking.

She is survived by: two granddaughters, Kris Hunt, Norman and Lisa Griggs of San Jose, Calif.; a grandson, Michael Irons of Oklahoma City; three great grandchildren, Angela Clark of Fort Worth, Texas and Mirabai and Eli Hull, both of Norman as well as two grand nieces.

Duncan

Mary "Oneta" Duncan died Monday, January 24, 2000 in Oklahoma City, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on May 16, 1913 to William Hall and Pearl Wooldridge, she lived in a covered wagon as a small child in the McQueen area, and graduated from Gould High School in 1932.

She met A.B. (Buel) Duncan at a church picnic and they were married July 31, 1932. They moved to Altus in 1939 and celebrated almost 61 years of marriage before A.B. passed away in 1993. They had four children, Ray, Karen, John and Janice, raising them in a loving Christian home where they emphasized their strong faith in God, honesty, hard work, education and service to others.

Oneta was a member of First Baptist Church, Altus for almost 60 years, where she served as a Sunday School Director, teacher, choir member, Women's Missionary Union director and in any area where she was needed. Oneta was a person who accepted each responsibility as a challenge and usually exceeded everyone's expectations, never satisfied with anything less than her best effort.

She worked at Anthony's and Russell's Department stores before assuming the position of Executive Secretary of the Jackson County Chapter of the American Red Cross. During her 11 years with the American Red Cross, she led the expansion of swimming, first aid, and volunteer programs and was a driving force in establishing and leading the Bloodmobile Blood Bank for Jackson County.

She later became involved with the OSU Extension Homemakers program, serving in several leadership positions and as a judge at various county fairs and 4-H events. Oneta was recognized as the 1979 Extension Homemaker of the Year for Jackson County.

She was a hospital volunteer and very active in the Business and Professional Women's Club for many years.

In her 86 years, Oneta Duncan proved to be a much-loved matriarch of indomitable strength and character, a friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Duncan in 1993; a son, Ray Duncan in 1975; her parents, W.H.. and Pearl Wooldredge; a sister and three brothers.

Left to treasure her memory are son and daughter-in-law John and Marquita Duncan of Palmer Lake, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law Karen and John Patterson of Oklahoma City; daughter and son-in-law Janice and Gary Blankenbiller, Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren, Robin Cullins, Jennifer lou Duncan, Jennifer Lane, Amy Reber, Sarah Hall, Luke Duncan, Jeffrey Blankenbiller, Valerie Blankenbiller and Brad Patterson; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and two brothers, W.H. Wooldridge, Jr. of altus and Cleo Wooldridge of Bakersfield, California; as well as a host of friends.

A service celebrating the life of Oneta Duncan will be Friday, January 28, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. a First Baptist Church, Altus, with Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Interment will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. The family has scheduled a visitation Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. All friends are invited to join them in the remembrance of Mary Oneta Duncan.

Ellis

Josephine Goodwin Ellis, 86, died today in Altus. Services are pending at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

English

Mildred Owene English, 90, Altus, died Jan. 7, 2000. Private graveside services are scheduled for members of the family. Memorial services will be held at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 with the Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating.

She was born Aug. 15, 1909, in Lone Wolf to Charles and Alberta Carter. She lived her entire life in the Altus area where she owned and operated the Petite Shop from 1943 to 1959, when she sold the shop and retired. She served Thanksgiving dinner for many years at the Salvation Army.

She married Lloyd H. English in 1928, and he survives at their home of many years at 1503 N. Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-mother, Leora Carter.

She is also survived by her daughter, Jan L. Warner and her husband Clarence, of Norman; her son Lloyd C. (Butch), and his wife, Phyllis K. of Altus; her sister, Dorothy Lee Howard, of San Angelo, Texas and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice.

Ferguson

Laura Lee Pope Ferguson, 97, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 11, 2000, at a Sayre nursing home. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Greer Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Willow Cemetery with the Rev. Arol Steverson officiating.

Ferguson was born July 13, 1902, in Monaville, Texas, to Reece Blake and Annie Elisa Newsom Pope. She married Walter Marvin Ferguson on Dec. 4, 1935, in Kerrville, Texas.

She worked in the health care industry as a nurse and spent more than 20 of her productive years at the Veteran's Hospital in Legion, Texas. She did volunteer work at Legion and also was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter Ferguson in February of 1972, three sons, Roy Bundick, Marvin Bundick and Jackson Bundick, a sister, Louise Gootcher and a great grandson, George Weed.

Survivors include: a daughter Dorothy M. Wooton of Willow; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandson.

Galeotti

Charles Galeotti, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at his home near Granite. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Granite with Dr. Gary Galeotti, the Rev. Ben VanVactor and the Rev. Arol Steverson officiating. Interment was at Hobart Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.

Galeotti was born Oct. 10, 1911, in Hamilton Camp, Kan. to William and Alba Galeotti. He married Anabelle Allen on May 28, 1939, in Durant.

He worked in research at Oklahoma State University and retired after nearly 30 years. He moved to the Granite area 20 years ago from Perkins.

A very active member of the Baptist church, he served as a deacon for more than 50 years, served as Associational Royal Ambassador Leader and worked with "Campers on Mission" building churches.

Galeotti was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Robina Melton on March 7, 1999 and two brothers, Herman Gotti and Ferris Galeotti.

Survivors include: his wife Annabelle Galeotti, Granite; a son, Gary and his wife Sharon Galeotti, Wake Forrest, N.C.; three grandchildren, John and Nathan Galeotti, Wake Forrest and Allen Melton, son of Robina Melton, of Arlington, Texas and his wife Marcie; a great granddaughter, Alathea Melton and a sister, Ida Cunningham, Huntington Beach, Calif.

Gant

Funeral services for Authur Carl Gant, 81, of Frederick, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Wyatt officiating. Burial was at Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gish Funeral Home. Gant died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Frederick, following a lengthy illness.

Gant was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Hollister to Arthur B. and Ida Hayes Gant. He attended Henderson High School and graduated in 1937. He attended Frederick Junior College for two years.

He was a farmer, serving on the Frederick Co-Op board for 33 years, on the A.S.C. Committee of Tillman County and the Cotton Incorporated Board in Raleigh, N.C.

On Jan. 30, 1944, he became a member of the First Baptist Church, on Sept. 25, 1957, he was ordained as a deacon.

He and Lenora Mae Minyard were married May 28, 1937, at the First Baptist Church in Frederick.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Gant.

Survivors include: his wife Lenora, of the home; two daughters, Carletta Ramsey and husband Charles of Athens, Texas and Judy Dollar and husband Jim of Blair; one brother, Merle Gant and sister-in-law Charlsa of Frederick; a sister-in-law, Cleta Gant of Frederick; six grandchildren, Cathy Bolsinger of Colorado Springs, Colo., Stacy Miller of Marlow, Kayla James of Blair, Jeff Ramsey of Las Vegas, Nev., Scott Ramsey of Cedar Hill, Texas and Greg Ramsey of Denver as well as seven great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donors choice.
