Gertha C. (Tolley) Wriston
Gertha C. (Tolley) Wriston, 82, of Shawnee died Sunday at a local hospital.

She was born June 19, 1920, in Gay, W.Va., to Sandusky Austin Tolley and Nora Belle (Westfall) Tolley.

She grew up and attended school in Jackson County, W.Va.

She married James O'Dell Wriston in Kentucky, and she was a homemaker. She had lived in Shawnee for about 20 years and lived in Oak Hill, W.Va., prior to that.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a daughter, Barbara Williams.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James Hobart and Ann Wriston of Indianapolis, Ind., Dana Carl and Vivian Wriston of Shawnee, and Jack Lee and Sandra Wriston of Mt. Nebo, W.Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Willogene Marie and Thomas Morris of Shawnee; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Roy Martin of Glasgow, W.Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

The family has designated Hospice of Shawnee as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Edith Waudene Glover
Shawnee resident Edith Waudene Glover, 72, died Sunday at her home.

Survivors include her children, Steve and Dusty Glover of Mineral Wells, Texas; Rachel and Rusty Woodward of Susanville, Calif.; Clarence Glover of Hermiston, Ore.; Sharon Hinkley of Hermiston, Ore.; Melissa and Jeff Jordan of Bend, Ore.; the Rev. John and Dianne Keeling of Shawnee; brother, Paul and wife Joyce Shires of Vallejo, Calif.; sister, Naomi and husband Gerald Harrell of Flippen, Ark.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Keeling officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home of Shawnee.

Memorial contributions may be made to Open Door Church of God, 1200 N. Tucker, Shawnee, OK 74801.

Jeanette Livecy
Dorothy Jeanette Livecy, Stroud, 71, died Saturday in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include her husband, Don Livecy of the home; sons, David Livecy of Yukon and Donnie Livecy of Citrus Height, Calif.; daughter, Kristina Raez of Allen, Texas; brother, Danny Dean Berry of Davenport, Wash.; sister, Maxine Marie Pursely of Magnolia, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Stroud with the Rev. Joe Molencupp officiating.

Burial will follow at Stroud Cemetery in Stroud, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.

Davetta Merrell
Davetta Merrell, 39, of Chandler died Friday in Oklahoma City.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at South Side Community Center in Chandler with the Rev. James Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah in Chandler under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Robert Earl Endwright
Robert Earl Endwright, 68, of Maud died Saturday at a Maud nursing home.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda L. Endwright of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Shirley Bennett of Shawnee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and Terry McCracken of Maud and Betty and Charles Webster of Seminole; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel McCracken officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Warren D. Sherrell
Wellston resident Warren D. Sherrell died Monday in Wellston. He was 78.

Survivors include his mother, Gladys Sherrell of Chandler; son, Warren (Mike) Sherrell Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii; two daughters, Mary Lou and husband Gary Carpenter of Tulsa and Barbie Ann Kincaid of Tulsa; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Nelda Sherrell of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Wellston Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Stuart officiating. Services are under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Edith E. McMakin
Shawnee resident Edith E. (Cox) McMakin, 91, died Sunday at a local hospital.

She was born May 18, 1912, in Hugo to James C. and Winefred (Davis) Cox.

McMakin married Chester Allen McMakin on Aug. 30, 1932. They were married 59 years until his death on Nov. 20, 1991.

She was the owner and operator of the Linda Jane Drive-In from 1953 to 1964 and owner of McMakin Spring Valley Farm until her retirement in 1978.

She was a member of the Central Church of Christ, the Eastern Star and charter member of the Better Community Home Demonstration Club.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Lorene Hanifan; infant sister, Elvie Cox; and brother, James "Jim" Cox.

Survivors include her son, Charles McMakin of Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Elva Jean and Tony Knox of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Wilma Cox of Seminole; grandchildren, Tami Castleberry, Mark Knox, Jennifer Cartwright and Chuck McMakin; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Central Church of Christ with Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home.

Wanda Sue Houck
Shawnee resident Wanda Sue Houck, 67, died Monday at her home.

She was born Dec. 16, 1935, near Sulphur to Homer L. and Essie Davis.

She graduated from Vanoss High School in 1953.

She married J.T. Houck on July 18, 1972, in Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Homer L. Davis, sisters, Janie Garrett and Linda Wheeler, and son, Michael Ray Roundtree.

Survivors include her husband, J.T. Houck of the home; seven children and their spouses, James T. and Kim Houck, Shawnee; Susie and Ramey Tarron, Ada; Myra and Jerry Frederick, Silo; Donna Nesbitt, Earlsboro; Patty and Chuck Lowrey, Shawnee; Mark and Brenda Roundtree, Tecumseh; and Russell and Tammy Roundtree, Norman; mother, Essie Davis of Ada; six brothers and sisters, Billy Ray Davis, Ada; Rita Webb of Ruidoso, N.M.; Jeannie Wood of Stratford; Homer Davis, Galveston, Texas, Johnny Davis, Garland, Texas; and Vickie Cheek of Ardmore; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lightning Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Zimmer officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.

Brian Keith Smith
Brian Keith Smith, 22, of Ada died Sunday at an Ada hospital.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret "Tooter" Brown of Konawa; a son, Jason Keith Lynn Smith of Shawnee; a brother, Tommy Smith of Konawa; two sisters, Stephanie Stokes of Konawa and Misty Smith of Ada; a niece, three nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mitch Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Anita E. Young DuBoise
Anita E. Young DuBoise, 82, of Shawnee died Wednesday at an Oklahoma City Hospital.

She was born June 23, 1920, west of Meeker to Gordon B. and Zella Miller Young.

She attended New Salem grade school and graduated in 1937 from Dale High School. She lived west of Meeker and in Shawnee and worked at Tinker Air Force Base, retiring as a unit supervisor. She moved to an assisted living apartment in Oklahoma City in November 2001.

She volunteered as a Lincoln County election steward and was active at Union, Meeker and Wesley United Methodist Churches.

She served in the Order of the Easter Star as Worthy Matron for Meeker and Shawnee chapters. She was secretary for the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was active in AARP.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Adeline DuBoise of west of Tecumseh, and Ken and Mary DuBoise of North Richland Hills, Texas; four grandchildren, Paul Rosser of Ada, John Rosser of Tecumseh, Alice Bliss of Oklahoma City and Larry DuBoise of Shawnee; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and four nephews, Don Brewer, Jim Nelson, Paul Nelson and Jack Purdue.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Burress officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Lou Miller
Lou Miller, 65, of Shawnee died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born June 14, 1937, in Tyler, Texas, the daughter of Bunk and Annie (Stringfellow) Owens.

Miller was a homemaker. For about 15 years, she provided care for others in their homes. She married Norman Henry Miller on June 1, 1957, in San Rafael, Calif.

Early in her life, Miller was affiliated with the YWCA in Arizona. She had lived in Shawnee for about 27 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and a brother.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet McKenzie of Shawnee, Barbara and David Boyce of Shawnee and Molly and Gary Daniels of Tecumseh; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Pauline Phelps of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Nell and Ray Rising of Chickasha; a brother and sister-in-law, Leslie Lee and Marie Owens of Lafayette, Ga.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carol Hopper officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements are being handled by Resthaven Funeral Home.

The family has designated First Christian Church Daycare of Shawnee as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Laveda Faye Dockrey
Laveda Faye Dockrey, 66, of Shawnee died Wednesday in Shawnee.

She was born March 12, 1936, in the Johnson community, northeast of Shawnee, the daughter of John and Velva (Nicholas) Souders.

Dockrey graduated from Earlsboro High School in 1954. She married Lee E. Dockrey on July 10, 1954, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She worked as a librarian's assistant at North Rock Creek School, retiring in 2000.

Dockrey was active in her church ministry and was devoted to children and their needs. She was an advocate for handicapped children at North Rock Creek School.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Downing.

Survivors include her husband, Lee E. Dockrey; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Terrell Dockrey of Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mike Claytor of Ft. Smith, Ark.; a brother, Delbert "Buck" Souders; five sisters, Jewell McDonnell, Evelyn Anderson, Mildred Longest and Rita Tefertiller, all of Shawnee, and Ruth Longest of Santa Maria, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Chris Dockrey, Malita Dockrey Green, Theodore Dockrey, Brooke Dockrey, Joseph Dockrey, Nathan Claytor and John Claytor.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with burial at Johnson Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, the church of the donor's choice or a children's ministry.

Betty G. McNulty
Betty G. McNulty, 76, of McLoud died Thursday in McLoud.

Survivors include two daughters, Kris Baxter of Choctaw and Pam Berninger of Madill; two sons, Bud McNulty of Madill and Raymond McNulty of McLoud; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Dale Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Asa Smith Funeral Services of Harrah.

Gladys Clara Hanning
Gladys Clara Hanning, 84, Shawnee, died Monday at a Tulsa hospital.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, the Rev. Frank and Pauline Smith of Shawnee; a sister-in-law, Pauline Hanning of Fayetteville, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo and the Rev. Frank Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Cheri (Hardin) Benton
Shawnee High School graduate Cheri (Hardin) Benton, 58, died Saturday at her home in Tulsa.

Surviving relatives include a son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Staci Benton of Tulsa; and a daughter, Bridgette Benton of Edmond.

Private services were held Thursday, and burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
