Jewel Igleheart Hutcherson
Jewel Igleheart Hutcherson, 95, of Paden died Monday, Jan. 3, in Prague.

She was born Aug. 18, 1909, in Mason, the daughter of Dan and Rosa (McElroy) Nichols. She was a lifelong resident of Okfuskee County.

In 1927, she married Homer Igleheart in Paden. He preceded her in death in 1969. In 1977, she married Alton Hutcherson, who preceded her in death in 1984.

During the 1940s, she was the postmistress of the Paden Post Office and owned and operated a restaurant. She was a charter member of Paden First Baptist Church.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Surviving relatives include a son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Frances Igleheart of Paden; a daughter, Sharon Kitchen of Paden; stepsister, Dolly Phillips of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Gary Igleheart and Alecia Frailey; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Paden with the Rev. Ledtkey McIntosh and the Rev. Brett Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Paden. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Elmer Lee Helms
Shawnee resident Elmer Lee Helms, 57, died Friday, Dec. 31, at his home.

Helms was born June 17, 1947, in Lincoln County, the son of Benjamin L. and Florence (Davis) Helms. He graduated from Meeker High School in 1965. He retired as an engineer after 31 years at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation Rightaway Department.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Geneva Straughan; and two brothers, Johnny Helms and Harley Helms.

Surviving relatives include two brothers, Fred Helms of Arizona and Bob Helms of Sapulpa; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskill Funeral Home.

Verlene Brannon
Shawnee resident Verlene (Talton) Brannon, 62, died Thursday, Dec. 30, at an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born Jan. 30, 1942, in Earlsboro to Harry Talton and Fannie Mae (Gaulding) Talton.

She was baptized at a young age at New Hope in Earlsboro. She attended school in Earlsboro and Shawnee and graduated from Harjo High School in 1961.

She was married to Isaac O. Brannon Sr. and later to Raymond Reese.

She recently became a supervisor at Tinker Air Force Base, where she had worked for 30 years.

She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Shawnee, where she had served as past president of the Missions Group, was a member of the choir and served as an usher. She also was an usher at Central Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant brother, one sister, Betty Lou Bennett and one grandchild, Shayla Nicole Brannon.

Survivors include four children, George Charles Brannon of Shawnee, VerDonna (Kizzee) Brannon of Oklahoma City, Diana Brannon of Shawnee and Isaac O. Brannon Jr., of Holdenville; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Joe Brannon of Oklahoma City and Tony Lee Talton of Earlsboro; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Ella Ruth and James Black of Oklahoma City, Elenor Gardner of Earlsboro, Beatrice Talton of Earlsboro and Mildred Ann Kennedy of Shawnee; four aunts, Lurena (Gaulding) Douglas of Shawnee, Vern (Talton) Gold, R. (Talton) Parker and Debra (Talton) Ibe; four uncles and an aunt-in-law, Charles and Nannie Talton of Okmulgee, Jackie Talton of Oklahoma City, Tommy Talton of Okmulgee and Herbert Lockey Talton of Oklahoma City; father-in-law, Isaac E. Brannon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James O. and Saundra Brannon; and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Union Missionary Baptist Church, Shawnee. Burial will follow at Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Home.

Keith Alan Bovee
Former Shawnee resident Keith Alan Bovee, 83, of Salem, Ore., died Wednesday, Dec. 29, after a long struggle with the cancer multiple myeloma.

He was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Shawnee, to Glen Peter and Vina Irene Bovee.

As a Boy Scout, he earned his Eagle Scout badge. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1939 before entering the U.S. Navy in 1942 when the United States entered World War II. He was a cryptologic security specialist in Washington, D.C.

He married Pauline Elizabeth "Betty" Dunbar of Tulsa on Sept. 1, 1942, in Washington, D.C. Upon his discharge from the Navy, the couple returned to Shawnee, where he graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1950 and worked as a partner in an oil drilling firm, Penn Drilling Company.

He and his family moved to Norman in 1959, and he joined the civil service as a supervisory accountant at Tinker Air Force Base.

Upon retiring in 1981, he and his wife moved to Oregon, where they lived in Eugene, Keizer and Salem. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Salem.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Salem; sister, Reta Eunice Henderson of Norman; sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy Keith Bovee of Herndon, Va.; Douglas Alan and Nancy Bovee of Salem; grandchildren, Hiroyuki Nicholas Bovee of Miyazaki, Japan; Kirsten Michelle Bovee and her fiance, Jake Blaufass, of Missoula, Mont., and Katherine Elizabeth Bovee and her husband, Philippe Blanc, of Portland, Ore.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Park in Tulsa. Arrangements are under the direction of Restlawn Funeral Home of Salem, Ore.

Memorials may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice, 2700 Market St. NE, Salem OR 97301.

Arthur D. Byers Sr.
Arthur D. Byers Sr., 81, of Shawnee died Friday at his home.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of Walker Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Frances O. Massey
Shawnee resident Frances O. Massey, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, in Shawnee.

Service is pending with Walker Funeral Service.

Wanda Vale Carpenter Chandler
She was born January 26, 1927 in Lexington, Oklahoma and died January 1, 2005 in Shawnee, OK. She was the daughter of Robert Marion and Hazel Odem Crane Carpenter.

She was proceeded in death by husband of 49 years, Earnest J. Chandler, and brothers Kienzle Carpenter, Ural Carpenter, Burdette Carpenter, and sister Thelma Carpenter Peters.

She is survived by one son, Bob Chandler and wife Cherry of Pawhuska, OK and three daughters, Earnestine Elliot and husband Don of Shawnee, Sarah Cayer and husband Jacques of Huntington, Conn., and Hazel Bond and husband Evan of Shawnee.

She is also survived by grandchildren: Rob Chandler and wife Tonya of Bryan, TX, Mike Switch and wife Gabriela of Oklahoma City, OK, Carol Owen and husband Robert of Shawnee, Jeff Chandler and wife Pennie of Rowlette, TX, Kathy Switch of Shawnee, Greg Cayer of Hamden, Conn., David Cayer of the U.S. Navy, Rhonda Rossik and husband Richard of Seymore, Conn., Christina Chandler of San Angelo, TX, Kevan Bond of Shawnee, and Valerie Bond and fiance Kyle Ueltzen of Shawnee.

She is also survived by great granchildren: Aaron Switch, Amber Mitchell, Nelson Tilley, Chance Schneider, John Reams, Laci Chandler, Kayla Switch, Cheryl Anne Chandler, James Thomas Rossik, Devin Chandler, Michaela Switch, Spencer Hallmark, Adam Chandler, Catherine Monique Rossik, Elizabeth Chandler, Collin Chandler, Sophia Switch, Matthew Chandler, Trenton Cope-Ueltzen.

She is also survived by sisters-in-law: Rebecca Mauldin of New Castle, OK, Margie Carpenter of Del City, OK, and Doris Morgan of Yukon, OK. Also numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Oleta Gunter of Shawnee.

Wanda worked for approximately 26 years as a C.N.A and C.M.A. at Colonial Estates Nursing Home. She always loved to care and do for other people. She attended and was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church for over thirty-five years and loved her church family so much.

The casket will not be opened after the service. Viewing will be before the service begins at the church. Service will be held 10:00 am Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Shawnee.

John Clifford Copeland, Sr.
Tecumseh resident John Clifford Copeland, Sr., 77, died Friday, December 31, in Tecumseh.

Mr. Copeland passed away peacefully in his sleep while deer hunting with his rifle in his hand and his finger on the trigger and his thumb on the hammer.

He was born June 26, 1927, in Tecumseh, to Joseph Benton and Thelma (Knight) Copeland.

In 1945, he married Dorothea McEuin. He later married Patricia Ann Combs on July 5, 1973 in Tecumseh.

He was reared in Tecumseh. From 1950 until 1960, he lived in Omaha, Nebraska while working as a union plumber. He returned to Tecumseh and opened Alco Plumbing and then ventured into other business endeavors including Johnís Short Stop and Copeland Laundry Mat.

He attended Tecumseh Schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A member of IOOF, he had served as Grand Master in the Omaha chapter. He was also a member of the American Legion and the first Presbyterian Church. He had served as the city building inspector and had served on the city council for eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Copeland of the home; sons & daughter-in-law, John Clifford, II and Elaine Copeland, Thomas J. Copeland, and Jim B. Copeland, all of Tecumseh; Mother, Thelma Copeland of Tecumseh; brother & sister-in-law, Paul and Cyndi Copeland of Fort Worth, Texas; step children and their spouses, Rick and Cynda Cole of Harrah, Marilyn and Ray Trask of Tecumseh, Valerie and Mike Pierce of Coweta, Debbie and Chris Brown of Broken Arrow; five grandchildren and their spouses, John Clifford, III and Sharyl Copeland of Tecumseh, Joseph and Jennifer Copeland of Norman, Tessy Copeland of Tecumseh, Angel Copeland of Tecumseh, and Jimmy Copeland of Tecumseh; nine step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Rider and Rev. Chad Brodrick officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Bridget Marie Sterrett
Oklahoma City resident Bridget Marie Sterrett, 42, died Sunday, Jan. 2, in Oklahoma City.

She was born Sept. 21, 1962, in Oklahoma City to Kenneth E. and Mamie L. (Neal) Sterrett.

She was reared in Oklahoma City and moved to the Tecumseh area in 1977. She lived in Tecumseh until 2002 when she returned to Oklahoma City.

She attended Tecumseh High School.

She was owner and operator of Daylight Donuts and several other ventures.

She was preceded in death by her mother and brother, Charles Robert Sterrett.

Survivors include her fiancé, Paul King of Oklahoma City; father, Kenneth Sterrett of Norman; children, Terina Jean Tooman of Shawnee, Jennifer Tooman of Oklahoma City and Dennis Eugene "Bubba" Tooman II of Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Tonda Sterrett of Tecumseh and Billy and Debbie Sterrett of Norman; sister and brother-in-law, Eddie and Orval Brewer of Wellston; niece, Sierra Brewer of Wellston; and grandchildren, Dakota Tooman of Shawnee, Kourtney Ann Marie Tooman of Oklahoma City and Riley Rosser Tooman of Oklahoma City.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Frazee officiating. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery.

Cooper Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

John Arch Hartwig
Chandler resident John Arch Hartwig died Sunday, Jan. 2, in Chandler at the age of 77.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler, with the Rev. Kevin Bowen officiating.

Service is under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Sherry Bailey
Shawnee resident Sherry Bailey, 50, died Monday, Jan. 3, in Shawnee.

Service is pending with Resthaven Funeral Home.

Jake T. Reese
Shawnee resident Jake T. Reese, 85, died Monday, Jan. 3, in Shawnee.

He was born Jan. 29, 1919, in Guin, Ala., to Henry and Cora (Barker) Osborn. He moved to Shawnee when he was 4 years old and has lived here since.

He was a rancher/farmer most of his life.

He was a member of National Rifle Association.

He married Lahoma Rowe in 1940 in Shawnee; they have celebrated 64 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sons, Dean Reese and Larry Mack Reese.

Survivors include his wife, Lahoma Reese, of the home; two sons, Jerry Reese and his wife, Anita, of Daisy, and Tony Reese and his wife, Robin, of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Hester Britt of Shawnee; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Delbert Akin officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Resthaven Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Dottie Lorene Grammer
Stroud resident Dottie Lorene Mashburn Grammer, 75, died Monday, Jan. 3, in Stroud.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Park Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Molencupp officiating.

Parks Brothers Funeral Service is directing arrangements.

Shawnee resident Ellis Cuter "E.C." Clymer, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, in Shawnee.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
