WALTER F. COBB
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Walter F. Cobb of rural Fairland died at his home Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 4:35 p.m. after a lengthy illness. He was 78. Mr. Cobb was born August 2, 1922 at Webster County, Mo. to Walter F. and Letha McMullin Cobb. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army. He was a correctional officer for the US Medical Center in Springfield, Mo. for 20 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Hudson Creek Baptist Church and had lived in Fairland since 1975. He married Mildred E. Owen January 24, 1943, at Marshfield, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred E. Owen, of the home; six sons and wives, Timothy and Connie Cobb of Reed Spring, Mo., Thomas and Vicky Cobb of Rogersville, Mo., Tony and Ann Cobb of Everton, Mo., Troy and Sharon Cobb and Terrence and Debbie Cobb of Neodesha, Kan., and Ty Cobb of the home; three daughters, Tamera and husband, Mike Grant of Neodesha, Kan., Susan Hilderbrand of Denver, Co., and Tony Cobb of the home; a sister, Marsha Dial of Forsythe, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Hudson Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Duffel and Rev. Richard Dayringer officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Fairland Cemetery under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland.

MALTA CLAUDINE COCHRAN
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - Alta Claudine Cochran, 87, Leavenworth, Kan., died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at the Medicalodge of Leavenworth. She was born July 21, 1913 at St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Edward Francis and Laura Bell Appling Lucas. On July 21, 1929, she married Jewel Cochran at Miller County, Mo. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Leavenworth Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Albo, Leavenworth; three sons, David L. Cochran, Parkville, Mo., John Paul Cochran, Miami, Okla., and Daniel G. Cochran, Kansas City, Kan.; 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Jewel Don Cochran and William Edward Cochran; one daughter, Patricia Ann Cochran; one brother, John Lucas, and one sister, Edna Beck.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Following the visitation, Mrs. Cochran will go to the Paul Thomas Funeral Chapel in Miami, Okla. for funeral visitation to be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, at the Funeral Chapel with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Glenn Abby Cemetery, Miami, Okla.
Memorial contributions may be given to Leavenworth Baptist Church, 803 S. Broadway at Spruce, Leavenworth, KS.

MITCHELL CANE COX COFFEY
GROVE - Mitchell Kane Coffey, infant son of Jennifer and William (Billy) Coffey, was with his parents for a short time after delivery on Wednesday April 11, 2001 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa.
He is survived by his grandparents on his mother's side, Pat and Linda Cox; great grandparents, Floyd and Roxanne Cox and Lamar and Mildred Whitney; uncles, Dustin Cox and Dallas Cox; great aunts and uncles, David and Brenda Cox, Linda and Mark Taylor, Billy and Tammie Cox, Dan Whitney, Randy Whitney, Roy and Sharon Whitney, Elvis Whitney and Don Whitney; on his father's side grandparents, L.E. and Betty Chappell and Wilma Chappell and Leroy Harper; two aunts, Codi Coffey and Destiny Jones; great aunt and uncle, Leon and Carla Chappell, and two cousins, Cullen Coffey and Reid Van House.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 14, at the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Rev. Andy Krebs officiated. Services were under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

WILLIAM E. "BILL" CONKRIGHT
EDMONDS, Wash. - William E. "Bill" Conkright, 90, a former long-time Diamond Point (Monkey Island) area resident, died April 5, 2001 in Edmonds, Wash. He was born February 5, 1911 in Centralia, Okla. Bill grew up in Coffeyville, Kan. and served in the Army during WWII. In 1946, he married Helen Meginn of Coffeyville and they spent 26 wonderful years together until her death in 1972. Bill was an accomplished welder and became a supervisor with Nutter Engineering, retiring in 1976. He very much enjoyed carpentry and time on the dance floor. In 1996, he moved to the greater Seattle area to be near his daughter, Mary Rausch.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Mary Rausch, of Seattle, two grandchildren, Richelle and Zachary Rausch; two great-grandchildren, Camille and Lian Mahar; sister, Virginia Newkirk of Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephew.
Family memorial service to be held at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of Beck's Funeral Home, Edmonds, Wash., 1-877-605-1234.

HAZEL CONNOR
GROVE - Hazel Connor, age 87, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 in Grove General Hospital. The daughter of Alfred and Lavina (Tomison) Jacobsin, she was born on December 4, 1913 in Jackson County, Kan. She lived all her life in the Topeka, Kan. area, moving to Grove in 1980. Hazel worked as aN LPN in the Veterans Hospital in Topeka, retiring in the late 1970's. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Grove and spent time as the Grand Noble of the Rebecca's Lodge in Grove. Later, she enjoyed the fellowship and social aspects of the Senior's Citizen Center in Grove. Hazel married James Clyde Connor and he preceded her in death in 1972.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Clyde Connor, and his wife, Rosie, of Grove; two sisters, Francis Chumley and Ruth Owen, both of Topeka, Kan.; two grandchildren, Clyde J. Connor and Charlette E. Bellefeuille; one great-granddaughter, Lamarie Rutelonis, and one great-great-grandson, Connor Rutelonis.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, in the Olympus Cemetery with Ken Seimens officiating. There will be a visitation for family and friends at the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Friday. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

PAUL ARTHUR COON
GROVE - Paul Arthur Coon of Grove died Friday, May 11, 2001 at the Grove General Hospital. He was 81. Mr. Coon was born August 5, 1919 to Sylvester and Cora Coon at Scammon, Kan. He graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, Kan. He worked for Helio Aircraft in Pittsburg, Kan. for 19 years. He also worked at Pittsburg State University in the physical plant until retiring at the age of 62. After retirement, he moved to Grove in 1985. Mr. Coon was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus, served many years as secretary/treasurer of the United Commercial Travelers, member of the Masonic Lodge, and past president of the Sailboat Bridge Assoc. He was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg and a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Grove. He married Mary Torchia February 15, 1942 at Pittsburg. She preceded him in death May 18, 1992. He then married Wilma Clark July 29, 1993 in Grove.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma, of Grove; five children, Ginger Freeman and husband, Bill, of Kalispell, Mt., Paula Hearn and husband, David, of Pittsburg, Rick Coon and wife, Sharon, of Pittsburg, Cora Johnson and husband, Chris, of Joplin, Mo., and Tammy Billingsly and husband, Marc, of Poala, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Nadine Hamblin and husband, Don Russell, of Afton, Okla.; two sisters, Garnett Cragg of Wichita, and Margie Borer of Bradenton, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Grove. Father Alex Kennedy to officiate. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. at the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kan. There will be a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church building fund or the American Heart Assoc. in care of the funeral home.

D.L. "LEFTY" COOPER
KERMIT, TEXAS, - D.L. "Lefty" Cooper, 77, of Kermit passed away Monday, January 29, 2001 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. He was born May 2, 1923 in Delaware County, Okla. to Leo Alfred Cooper and Pansy Madeline Amos Cooper. Lefty married Wanda Lipham June 3, 1948 in Kermit, Texas. He and Wanda were founders and operators of Cooper Funeral Chapel, Inc. from 1962 until 1997. Lefty held every office and position in the West Texas Funeral Directors Association including President during this career. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kermit, member of the Kermit Downtown Lions Club, Kermit Masonic Lodge #1258, the El Paso Consistory, and was an Army veteran of WWII. He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Hollenback.
He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate Wanda Cooper of Kermit, his two precious children, Jay Cooper of Kermit and Doylene Plummer and her husband Jerry of Amarillo, grandson, Doyle Plummer and his wife Lorri of Grand Prairie, granddaughter Crystal Plummer of Amarillo, great-granddaughter Hope Plummer of Amarillo, and great-grandson Colton Plummer of Grand Prairie. He is also survived by his two sisters, Juanita Larmon of Jay, Okla. and Reva Lois Votaw of Oak Grove, Missouri.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, February 1, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Kermit, Texas with Reverend David Weyant officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jerry Moya, Kim Arnold and Jay Cooper of Cooper Funeral Chapel, Inc.

WILMA M. COOPER
SOUTHWEST CITY, Mo. - Mrs. Wilma M. Cooper, 90, of Southwest City, Mo., died on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at 2:55 p.m. at Grove after an illness.
Wilma Cooper was born on April 17, 1911 in Marionville, Mo., to the late L.F. "Lou" and Ada May (Knott) Burney. She had lived in Southwest City most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Southwest City where she was a member of the choir. She was a homemaker and an avid antique collector.
She married L.E. "Lark" Cooper on April 8, 1933 at Eucha, Okla. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lucile Glasscock.
Survivors are: two daughters, Burney Moss of Joplin, Mo., and Joan Nale of Jay; three grandchildren, Tom Moss of Shawnee, Kan., Martha Rose of Grove, and Tim Moss of Rogers, Ark., and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cooper were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City. The Reverend Ray Clanton officiated. Burial was in the Southwest City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Southwest City First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

BERNICE COSBY
CLAREMORE, Okla. - Bernice Cosby of Claremore, Okla. died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at the Claremore Regional Hospital. She was 90. Mrs. Cosby was born February 16, 1911 to W.A. and Cora Francis Parker in Grove. She graduated from Grove High School. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1976 as a telephone operator. Mrs. Cosby lived in Miami, Okla. for 47 years before moving to Claremore in 1999. She married William Delbert Cosby March 25, 1933 at Vinita. He preceded her in death in 1946.
She is survived by two children, Paul Cosby of Edmond, Okla., and Brenda Steeley of Claremore, Okla.; one brother, James Parker of Grove; sister, Ada Ruth Wisdom of Paola, Kan.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove. Rev. John E. Bulter to officiate. Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

RONALD E. COUSINS
GROVE - Funeral service for Ronald E. Cousins, 69, who died Monday, May 21, 2001 at his home in Grove, were Thursday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel in Cherokee with Pastor Ed Jones officiating. Burial followed at Auburn Cemetery southwest of Cherokee. Arrangements were by Lanman Funeral Home of Cherokee.
He was born in Portland, Maine on December 1, 1931, the son of Robert Earl and Ethel Mae Berry Cousins. On May 11, 1952 he and Carol White were married in Cherokee. They lived in Wichita, Kan. where he was a retired Wichita Police Detective Lieutenant, and also retired from Boeing Aircraft. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Grove; one son, Ronald D. Cousins, of Grove; one daughter, Caron Dumler, of Erie, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Orvella White, of Grove, formerly of Cherokee; one brother, Richard E. Cousins, of South Portland, Maine and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Cousins, and one brother, Ronald B. Cousins.
Memorials may be made to the Wichita Police Benefit Fund through Lanman Funeral Home of Cherokee.

SIMON HOWARD COWAN
CENTRAL POINT, Ore. - Simon Howard Cowan, a former resident of Jay, passed away at his home in Central Point, Ore. June 8, 2001 at the age of 82. Mr. Cowan was born March 8, 1918 in Pettigan, Ark., a son of Simon and Sara Cowan. He married Martha Stelle in 1942 in Jay, Okla. To this union was born one son, Howard Wayne Cowan, of Eugene, Ore. They moved from Jay to Rouge Valley, Ore. in 1948. He married Maurine Call in 1987 in Central Point.
He is survived by one son, Howard Wayne Cowan; his wife, Maurine Call, of Central Point; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a step daughter, Patricia Gordon, and step son Tracy Gordon. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Mr. Cowan was a member of the First Baptist Church at Central Point. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during WW II. He worked for Boise Cascade until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and yard work
Graveside services for Simon Howard were at the Eagle Point National Cemetery Interment Shelter. Arrangements were under direction of Abbey Funeral, Medford, Ore.
Howard was a brother-in-law to Sam Stella and Euylean Cearly. He was a nephew of the late Dr. William R. Cowan, who had an office in Jay for many years.

LAVINA (LEE) CRAIN
GROVE - Lavina (Lee) Crain, age 84, of Grove, passed away at Grove General Hospital Wednesday, October 10, 2001 after a sudden illness.
Lee was born July 30, 1917 in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Joe and Vernie Dyer of Springfield, Mo. She had two brothers, James Dyer and Joe Dyer Jr., of Grove., and was married to Elliot Crain in Long Beach, Calif. She also had one son, Ron Malone, of Calif.
Lee was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo., and was a member of Grove Kitchen Band, entertaining residents in area nursing homes until ongoing illness prevented her from participating. She also belonged to the Grove Republican Women's Club.
No service will be held.

FRANKLIN S. CRONK
GROVE - Franklin S. Cronk, 67, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at his home after a short illness. Private family services will be held at a later date. Franklin Cronk was born on April 4, 1933 in Colony, Okla. to Melton and Lena Seger Cronk. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict and the Occupation Force in Germany. Mr. Cronk graduated from Oklahoma State University and was a great fan and benefactor of the university.
He is survived by his wife, Cherie of Grove; a daughter, Arden Renee' Moulin of Flower Mound, Texas; a son, Franklin LaMont Cronk of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Kelsey and Forrest Moulin both of Flower Mound, Texas; one brother, Kenneth John Cronk of Bourne, Texas; two sisters, Lenadell Shunkwiler of Oklahoma City, and Mary Stevenson of Winston, Ore.; two stepchildren and four step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Oklahoma State University Foundation, Stillwater, Okla. Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove.
