HERBERT L. CROSBY
MIAMI, Okla. - Herbert L. Crosby of rural Miami died Monday, April 2, 2001 at 4:45 a.m. at the Miami Nursing Center after an illness. He was 88 years of age. Mr. Crosby was born August 19, 1912 at Anderson, Mo. to Avery and Minnie (Sala) Crosby. He lived in the Fairland, Afton, Miami area for 58 years, moving there from Anderson, Mo. He was a carpenter and was self-employed as a building contractor for over 50 years. He was a long time member of the Fairland Assembly of God Church and was a humble, hardworking family man. He was united in marriage to Ruth E. Tipton December 23, 1932. She survives of the home. Twin sons, Billy and Bobby Crosby, one daughter, Paralee Crosby, two brothers, and a sister all preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Max Crosby and his wife, Martha, Amarillo, Texas, and Eddie Crosby and his wife, Waydeen, Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Dolores Blevins and her husband, Freddie, Tulsa, Okla., Judy Phillips and her husband, Bill, Shawnee, Okla., and Linda Orcutt and her husband, Tony, Miami, Okla.; two sisters, Pauline Chapman, Lewiston, Idaho, and Jewell Dickey, Anderson, Mo.; 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and six great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Herbert L. Crosby will be Thursday, April 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Fairland Assembly of God Church in Fairland. Rev. Robert Jackson and Rev. Jackie Crafton will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Interment will be in the Old Hickory Grove Cemetery, northwest of Grove. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, April 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Fairland Assembly of God Church in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.

AUGUST V. CROWDER
WYANDOTTE, Okla. - August V. Crowder, 77, of Wyandotte, died at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at NEO Health Care Center in Miami, Okla. after a long illness.
He was born August 11, 1923 at Hardy, Ark., the son of Benjaman LeRoy and Alta Allen Crowder. He had lived in the Wyandotte area for several years where he was a Park Ranger at Twin Bridges State Park, and he attended Sycamore United Methodist Chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, of the home; a son, Dale August Crowder, Mobile, Ala.; a daughter, Minless Louise Campbell, Neodesha, Kan.; a brother, LeRoy Crowder, Cherryvale, Kan.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kelo Merle Crowder, and two sisters, Peggy June Crowder and Lela Jane Rhodes.
Services will be Friday, April 20, at the Wyandotte United Church at 2 p.m. Rev. Mark Lynn will officiate. Burial will be in Wyandotte Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard White, Cameron Anderson, Arthur Anderson, Kenny McKee Jr., Stephen Way and Chris Gwartney. American Legion Post 163, Neosho, Mo. will conduct military graveside rites.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Regency Hospice in care of the funeral home.

LEONA MAE CUNNINGHAM
GROVE - Leona Mae Cunningham of Grove died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. She was 65. Leona was born July 13, 1935 to Rev. Ross and Blanche Cunningham at Bowman, N. D. Just before she became ill she worked in housekeeping at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove. She has lived in Grove for 14 years, moving from Southwest City, Mo. Her father preceded her in death.
She is survived by her mother, Blanche Cunningham, of Grove; one daughter, Fay Sultzer of Jay, Okla.; one sister, Wanda Varner of Wantangua, Okla.; two nieces, Becky Pierce of Anderson, Mo., and Anita Varner of Gravette, Ark.; two nephews, Steve Varner of Rogers, Mo., and Paul Varner of Gravette, Ark.; one granddaughter, Lisa Sultzer of Jay, and a host friends and neighbors.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Rev. Herschel Barnes to officiate. Interment will be at the Lee Cemetery Southwest City, Mo.

LUTHER DONALD CUNNINGHAM
GROVE - Luther Donald Cunningham, 66, died on Thursday, June 14, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, lakeside at the Grand Harbor Pavilion.
Luther Cunningham was born on January 10, 1935 to Luther L. and Alta Mae Reedy Cunningham in Oswego, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Cunningham worked as a brick layer until his retirement in 1997. He moved to the Grove area in 1975 from Columbus, Kan. Mr. Cunningham was a member of the VFW, and Brick Layers Union Local #15 in Kan.
He is survived by Luther Donald Cunningham, Jr., Mike Andrew Cunningham, Bobby D. Cunningham, and Ralph Edward Cunningham; two stepsons, Frankie Howerton of Wyandotte, Okla., and Charlie Howerton of Dickson, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Priscilla Frazier of Picher, Okla.; mother, Alta Richter of Garnett, Kan.; special friends, Rick and Sheyenne Carter, Destiny and Asha, Terry Martin, Tom Clough and numerous friends at Grand Harbor. Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove.

LAVINA M. CURREY
EVANSTON, Wyo. - Lavina M. Currey, 65, passed away peacefully at her sister's home on September 8, 2001 following a courageous struggle with cancer.
She was born on January 23, 1936 in Kemmerer, Wyo., the daughter of Charles and Teresa (Dreu) Munari.
She married Albert Leslie Currey June 10, 1957 in Nevada. He preceded her in death August 10, 1995.
For several years Lavina worked as a food specialist at the Wyoming State Hospital. She was a member of the Uinta Bible Baptist Church and enjoyed time at Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include: her sons, Charles Currey, of Collinsville, Ben Currey, of Phoenix, Arizona, Nathan Currey of Owasso, and Joe Currey of Fairland; her daughters, Beverly Lay of Stinnet, Texas, Lillian Henderson of Vinita, Clara Siebrecht, Rock Springs, Wyo., and Mattie May Jeffries of Jay; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sisters, Caroline Nicholls, Josephine Rudy, and Lillian Juvan, and one brother, Anton C. Munari.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were held Sept. 11 at the Uinta Baptist Church in Evanston. Graveside Services will be in the Olympus Cemetery in Grove at 3 p.m. on September 14. Visitation will be held Thursday Evening at Moore's Funeral Home, 116 North Main, in Owasso.

WAYNE DANIELS
JAY, Okla. - Wayne Daniels passed away Saturday, September 29, 2001 in route to Northwest Arkansas Regional Hospital in Springdale while being carried by air evacuation after a lengthy illness. He was 61. Wayne was born May 25, 1940 to Fletcher Haskell and Audrey Mildred (Hubbard) Daniels at Crowder, Okla. He served in the United States Navy. Wayne has lived in the area since 1972, moving from Oregon. For 14 years he worked as a police officer in various towns including Jay, Salina, Colcord, and Southwest City, Mo. Later he worked as an Independent Truck Driver for five years. He attended the Mt. Hermon Church in Jay.
Survivors include: his wife, Grace (Keith) Daniels, of Jay; mother, Audrey Daniels of McAllister, Okla.; two sons, Charlie Daniels of Clinton, Mo., and Alan Daniels of Maysville, Ark.; three daughters, Joani Brown of Southwest City, Mo., Annette Daniels of Clinton, Mo., and Audrey Hoffman of Grove; five sisters, Gerri Blevins, Shirley Evans, Audrey Mildred Jones, Wanda Daniels, all of McAllister, Okla., and Laverne Ratzlaff of Salem, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services were at 11 am, Monday, October 1, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay. Rev. Larry Kingfisher officiated.

JASON 'JAKE' THOMAS DARRAH
GROVE - Jason "Jake" Thomas Darrah passed away October 5, 2001 at Grove General Hospital. Jake was born on September 21, 1908. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. For many years, Mr. Darrah and his wife resided in Nevada, Mo., where they were in the long distance trucking business. They moved to the area in 1959, leasing Blue Bluff Harbor for seven years. They then developed and operated Four Seasons Resort until retirement on December 1, 1977. Mr. Darrah was active in the Bowling League. He belonged to the Bible Sunday School Class and Keenagers at First Christian Church and was active in other church activities. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Norwood) Darrah, Grove; one sister, Opal Rector, Jasper, Mo., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lydia Darrah, one brother, Don Darrah, and one sister, Helen Busse.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 8, at First Christian Church, Grove. Burial was at 3 p.m. Monday, October 8, at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Mo. Services were under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

ETHEL LUCILLE DAVIS
WASHINGTON, Mo. - Ethel Lucille Davis, known as "Lucille" to her family and friends, was born at Kansas City, Mo., on Feb. 25, 1905, the daughter of the late Eli W. Scott and his wife, Sally Dehart Earl Scott, and passed away on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at the Grandview Healthcare Center in Washington, Mo., at the age of 96. She was the eldest of four children.
She spent most of her childhood in Jasper, Mo., graduating from Jasper High School in 1922. She earned her undergraduate degree from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., in 1926. From there she went on to obtain her master’s degree in education from the University of Missouri, Columbia and attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. Mrs. Davis taught elementary and junior high school in several southwest Missouri communities including Webb City, Carthage, Carterville and Wentworth.
On April 21, 1935 she was united in marriage to Kenneth F. Davis and they made their home in Webb City until they retired in 1970. They were active members of Emmanuel Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Webb City.
After retiring they made their home in Grove for over 20 years and were active members of the First Baptist Church there. Lucille taught a large Sunday School class of senior adults for many years.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Davis, two brothers, Earl W. Scott, and John M. Scott, and one sister, Marian E. Scott Repplinger.
Those who survive are: her son, Roger S. Davis and his wife, Maryellen Witherspoon Davis, of Union, Mo.; one grand-daughter, Dr. Sherrill A. Davis Sarapas and her husband, Leonard Sarapas, of Hampstead, N.H.; one grandson, Wayne S. Davis and his wife, Pamela Davis, of Webster Groves, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Nathan Sarapas, Maggie Davis, Katy Davis, Shannon Davis, and William Davis; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Scott of Golden City, Mo., and Bernadine Scott of Bella Vista, Ark.; many nephews; great-nieces and nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Oltman Funeral Home in Union, Mo., officiated by Rev. Russ Stigall. Graveside services were held on Monday, Aug. 6, at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Mo., with Rev. John Witherspoon officiating.

HAROLD W. DAVIS
CHELSEA, Okla. - Services for Harold W. Davis were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2001 at the Free Holiness Church in Chelsea. Burial followed in Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis died Wednesday night, July 18, at Claremore Regional Hospital at the age of 86.
The son of Norman J. and Bertha Lynn Davis, he was born October 18, 1914 in Orange Co., Calif. At the age of three he moved with his family to rural Oklahoma. It was in rural Rogers County where he met Irene Burchett. They were married November 24, 1934 in Chelsea. They made their home in the Chelsea area where they raised all five of their children. Harold made his living working in the oil fields for Phillips - Milam Oil. He did so until his retirement in 1988, after 30 years of service. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Melva Davis, sisters, Mildred Dean and Evelyn Mudd. and five grandchildren.
Surviving include: his wife, Irene, of Chelsea; sons, Leroy Davis of Enid, Ralph Davis of Grove, and Alfred Davis of Thomson, Ga.; daughter, Wanda Payton of Pryor; brother, Winfred Davis of Chelsea; sister, Nina West of Bartlesville; 11 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

BONNIE BELLE DAWDY
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - Bonnie Belle Dawdy, 79-year-old resident of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Thursday, September 13, 2001 at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs. Born February 9, 1922 in Lubbock County, Texas, she was the daughter of John Spence and Mattie "Sue" Roberson Spence. Mrs. Dawdy was a homemaker and a farmer. She had been a resident of Siloam Springs, since 1951, moving here from Idalou, Texas. Mrs. Dawdy was a member of the Robinson Extension Homemakers and the Eastgate Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Dawdy, in 1983.
Survivors are: four sons, Larry Dawdy and Jerry Dawdy, both of Siloam Springs, Rodney Dawdy of Stuart, Fla., and James Dawdy of Columbia, Mo.; two daughters, Dwayla Chamberlain, of Colcord, and Pam Swafford of Springdale, Ark.; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step-sisters, Catherine Cawood, of Bentonville, Ark., and Martha Mason, of Bentonville, Ark.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 17, at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs with Mr. Charles Cash officiating. Burial followed in Yell Cemetery near Robinson, Ark., with services under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

FARREL B. DEASON
WAKEENEY, Kan. - Farrel B. Deason, died October 10, 2001 at a medical center in Hays, Kan., at the age 65. He was born June 12, 1936 at Afton, Okla. to Jess and Marie Hildebrand Deason. He attended the Grove school and graduated from Grove High School in 1954. All five Deason brothers played football at Grove High School, when the league was known as the Lucky Seven Conference. He later served in the U.S. Army. He was a mason. His grandparents, Ed and Minnie Clanton Deason, both deceased, where life long residents of the Grove area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Deason. He is survived by: his wife, Donna, whom he married in 1960; two daughters, Terri, Great Bend, Kan., Toni, Bedford, Texas; a son, Eric, Dallas, Texas; three brothers, twin brother, Darrell, Tampa, Fla., Elmo, Wellington, Kan., Jack, DeQuincy, Fla.; and several grandchildren.
Funeral services were held October 13, 2001, at Wakeeney with burial there.

MADISON MARIE DeHART
TULSA, Okla. - Madison Marie DeHart, 36-day-old infant daugher of Daniel Keith DeHart and Lori Lynn Hayes passed away Monday, August 20, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
Survivors are: her parents, Daniel Keith DeHart and Lori Lynn Hayes of the home; maternal grand-parents, Kriss Arnold and John G. Hayes of Vinita; paternal grand-parents, Lela Moree of Chelsea and Bobby DeHart of Tulsa, and paternal great grand-mother, Marie DeHart of Vinita.
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, August 24, at Big Cabin Cemetery. Nellita Shiver will officiate. There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.
