OBA J. EDWARDS
MIAMI, Okla. - Oba J. Edwards, of Miami, formerly of Minneapolis, Minn., died at 12:10 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2001, at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center after an illness. He was 68. Oba was born June 2, 1933, at Miami to James Oba and Mildred (Ramsey) Edwards. He moved to Galena, Ill. in 1947, and returned to Miami in 1978. He was a retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt., retiring in 1973. He had served in the Korean Conflict and also served multiple tours of duty in England. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1974. He presently owned and operated the Edwards Liquor Store in Miami, and had formerly owned and operated the Elm's Motel. Mr. Edwards loved to garden and enjoyed hunting, bird watching, and all sports. He was generous and giving to all his acquaintance and will be greatly missed.
He married Carol Marie (Ball) Edwards in 1957 in Bemidji, Minn. He later married Ruth Warme in 1978 at Miami and she survives of the home.
Additional survivors are: a daughter, Kelly Edwards, and her partner, Carol Rodgers, of Minneapolis, Minn.; son, Michael and his wife, Susan Edwards, of New London, Minn.; two grandchildren, Hailey and Courtney Edwards, New London, Minn.; step-daughter, Alexandra and husband, Christopher England, of Minneapolis, Minn., two step-grandchildren, Christian and Carter England, Minneapolis, Minn., and a special friend, Eddie Joe Barnett, Miami.
Memorial Services were held at 4 p.m., Monday, July 2, at the Chapel of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home with Rev. Noel Doherty officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

URICE OLA EDWARDS
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Urcie Ola Edwards died at her niece's home in Mesa, Az., October 19, 2001 after a short illness. She was 101. She was born November 5, 1899 at Ballard, Mo., to Mark and Willie Mosher Mabrey. She moved to Fairland in 1908, then to Claremore in 1918. She went to Draughon's Business College and then worked as a bookkeeper at Ried Copper C. in Tulsa. She married Marvin Edwards at Tulsa on November 22, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1950. She moved to Springfield, Mo., in 1938, and then back to Fairland in 1943. She remained in Fairland until 2000.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairland, where she was active, teaching Sunday School for nine years, and was in charge of entertainment for the young people for several years. She contributed on a regular basis to the poetry corner in the Joplin Globe and the Grove Sun. For the centennial celebration of the church, she wrote an article of the early days of the church and the town of Fairland.
She is survived by: three nieces, Maxine Neely, Bradford, Ore., Fayrene Jacques, Fullerton, Calif., and Jo Ann Arrott, Mesa, Az.; a nephew, L.A. Bud Callaway, Joplin, and 17 grand nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 27, at Fairland Cemetery with Rev. Andy Krebs officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland.

F. NORMA EICK
COMMERCE, Okla. - F. Norma, Eick, a former Miami and Commerce resident, passed away Friday morning, October 12, 2001 at the St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, after an illness. She was 76. Mrs. Eick was born February 25, 1925 at Granby, Mo., to Fred and Evelyn (Shipman) Brackeen, and lived in this area until 12 years ago when she moved to Tulsa. She had retired from the cafeteria at the B.F. Goodrich Plant in 1975. Mrs. Eick graduated from the Commerce High School with the class of 1944. She married Ralph Eick on September 12, 1944 at Commerce, he preceded her in death on August 6, 1987.
Survivors include: a son, Phillip Eick, Inola, Okla.; a daughter, Mrs. Sue Allen, Ft. Worth, Texas; a brother, Bill Brackeen, Norman, Okla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the G.A.R. Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chance Allen, Chad Allen, Casey Allen, George Eick, and Geoff Eick. Honorary Pallbearer was Shelly Witwer. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer society in care of the funeral home.

WILLIAM C. ENKE
GROVE - William C. Enke (known as Bill or Pop to most), Cheyenne descendant of survivors of Sand Creek, crossed over at 1:15 p.m. June 14, 2001 at Grove Hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1914 at Purdy, Mo., and lived in Joplin and Springfield before moving to Grove. He was a teamster for Cambell 66 for 24 years, and owner of Pop's Cafe in Fairland, Okla. till 1997.
He is survived by four daughters, Lorraine WhiteDove Van Dorn of the home, Peggy O'Kelley, Afton, Okla., Sue Eurryan, West Plains, Mo., and Nava Pittman, Springfield, Mo.; two sons, Darrell Hanson, Republic, Mo., and Darrell Campbell, Springfield, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Emma Judy Cambell Enke; son, William Howard Enke of Ark.; daughter, Jana Hanson, Republic, Mo.; father, George Enke, Mo.; mother, Martha Schreber, Mo.; brothers, Carl Enke, and George Enke, Mo.; sisters, Bertha Schad, Mary Guestine, Freda Schad, and Augusta Cohen all of Mo. His parting will be greatly missed by all family and friends.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Springfield. He will be at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home in Springfield. Family requests no flowers. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or Indians Rights Fund.

WILLIE MAE ESTES
VINITA, Okla. - Willie Mae Estes, 72-year-old former Vinita resident, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001 at Baptist Regional Hospital, Miami, Okla. Willie was born January 31, 1929 in Tuscaloosa County, Ala., to John D. and Minnie Lee (Reed) Fisher. She was retired and had formerly worked as a CMA at the Home of Hope in Vinita. Willie was united in marriage to Cortez Estes on December 8, 1967 at Woodstock, Ala. They moved to the Vinita area from Woodstock in 1976. He preceded her in death in 1992. Also preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Warden Hutchins, and daughter, Daisy Herring.
Surviving are: three daughters, Yvonne "Vonnie" Dugan and husband, Donald, of Afton, Diane Brown and husband, Jerry, of Stillwell, and Brenda Hutchins of Catoosa; one son, Carter Estes of Vinita; one sister, Sadie Payne of Tannihill, Ala.; six grandchildren, Shannon Atchison, Ryan Atchison, Erica Pippin, Alison Bilbrey, Sonny Arnold, and Mary Beth Arnold; three step-grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 7, at the Fairview Cemetery. Steve Brodrick will officiate. The grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 6, at the Burckhalter Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

MILDRED CLARA EVANS
MISSION, Texas - Mildred Clara Evans, 87-year-old resident of Mission, Texas, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at her home. Born April 16, 1913, in Springtown, Ark., she was the daughter of Fredrick Phillips and Della Sitton Phillips. Mrs. Evans had been a former longtime resident of Colcord, Okla. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Siloam Springs. She married Leslie Evans in West Siloam Springs on December 23, 1934. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Frederick Evans, of Valley Springs, Calif; one daughter, Carol Berlyne of Mission, Texas; five grandchildren, and one sister, Edith Phillips of Siloam Springs, Ark.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Johnson Cemetery, near West Siloam Springs, with Rev. George McFerron officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Rt. 4, Box 253B, Colcord, OK 74338 or to Johnson Cemetery.

JOYCE EYLER
COLLINSVILLE, Okla. - Joyce Eyler, 76, died May 9, 2001 in Stillwater, Okla. She was born August 16, 1924 Capron, Okla. to Mable (Albright) and George W. Lightburn. She is a longtime Grove and Collinsville resident, and a member of Collinsville First United Methodist Church. She married Nelson E. Eyler in November, 1943 in Collinsville, Okla. She attended Oklahoma A&M, 50 year member of P.E.O. and Methodist Women. She loved fishing and tied quilts for babies and friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Nelson Eyler, of Collinsville; two sons, Dan and Debbie Eyler of Tulsa, Okla., and Dean and Kathie Eyler of Collinsville; one daughter, Dianne and Walter Adams of Stillwater, Okla.; twin-sister, Jean Condrey of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Brian and Nancy Adams of Murphy, Texas, Laura Adams of Stillwater, Okla., Matt Eyler of Tulsa, Okla., Stacy and Brad Post of Broken Arrow, Amanda and Ryan Green of Tulsa, Okla., Melissa Teasley of Tulsa, Okla., Monty and Dawn Eyler of Collinsville and Malia and Eric Guerrero of Stillwater; two great-grandchildren, Madylaine and Soloman Post; two nephews, Vic Condrey of Houston and Lee Condrey of Birmingham, Ala., and two nieces, Cathy Ratliff of Dallas and Marsha Ramee of Oklahoma City.
Services are at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, First United Methodist Church, Collinsville, Okla. Reverend Larry Wilson will officiate. Interment will be Ridgelawn Cemetery, Collinsville, Okla. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Funeral Home.

CLYDE WILLIAM "OKIE" FARMER
NEOSHO, Mo. - Clyde William "Okie" Farmer, 80, Neosho, Mo., collapsed and died during Sunday evening church services on August 26, 2001. He was born October 19, 1920 in Arkansas to Harrison and Lula Farmer. He married Helen L. Weldon on July 18, 1941 in Las Vegas, Nev. She preceded him in death on November 17, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his eldest son, Clyde Farmer, Jr., granddaughter, Elizabeth Farmer, two sisters, Ines Evans and Ruby Moore, and one brother, Joseph "Bud" Farmer.
Clyde worked for the Millhouse Family Dairy in California, at a number of California vineyards, for a variety of produce companies, and in the California oil fields during the 1940's and 1950's. He returned to Neosho in 1959, where he worked as a logger and operated a sawmill until his retirement in the late 1980's, at which time he became a dairy farmer.
Clyde was actively involved at Miller Flats Church of rural Wyandotte, Okla., where he sang and played guitar. He was an avid and entertaining storyteller and reminisced fondly of his days in California. He never met a stranger.
Survivors are: three sons and their wives, David and Violet Farmer, Donald and Kathy Farmer, and Darrell and Rhonda Farmer, all of Neosho; two sisters, Lucille Hudson of Bakersfield, Calif., and Dorothy Thomas of Muskogee, Okla.; one grandson, Jeff Farmer; 10 granddaughters; 11 great grandsons; seven great granddaughters; several nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 31, at Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home in Seneca. Rev. Robert Broderick will officiate.

WAVY LINCOLN FAUGHT
GROVE - Wavy Lincoln Faught died May 8, 2001 at his home in Grove. He was born July 9, 1928 and raised in Owensboro, Ky. He served in the military (U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force) for 31 years. He moved to Grove from San Diego, Calif. in December 1993. Wavy was an active member of the V.F.W., Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge in Grove. He was preceded in death by parents, Earl and Velca Faught, three brothers, three sisters and his previous wife, Willadeyne Faught, mother of Cindy Sudan and sister of Shirley Ford of Grove.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Faught, of San Diego, Calif.; six children, Cindy G. Sudan of Lafayette, Colo., Michael J. Faught of San Diego, Calif., Mary Ellen Faught of Chula Vista, Calif., Patricia J. Faught of San Diego, Calif., Rebecca L. Faught of San Diego, Calif., and Thomas E. Faught of Temecula, Calif. There are seven grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service at the Moose Lodge, Grove, Saturday, May 12, at 1:00 p.m. There will be a burial with full Military Honors at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, Calif. at a future date. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove. Family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to his daughter who was seriously injured in an automobile accident. Donations may be sent to Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home.

DORIS LOUISE (WATERS) FENIX
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Doris Louise (Waters) Fenix, 87, of Fairland, Okla., died at 5:30 p.m. on October 6, 2001 at her home after a long illness.
Doris was born August 31, 1914, in Joplin, Mo., where she grew up and attended school. She was the first of four daughters of E. Ellsworth and Hazel D. Waters. She married Taylor M. Fenix on February 5, 1934. Taylor died on August 30, 1997.
Survivors include: her two sons, Robert Fenix, Holiday Island, Ark., and James Fenix, Springfield, Va.; four grandchildren, Jackson Taylor Fenix, Kristin Lee Fenix, Stefanie Lynne Fenix, and Douglas Taylor Fenix; two great-granddaughters, Heather Renee Fenix, and Tonya Sue Fenix. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, and all of her aunts and uncles.
Since 1977, she has lived at the same home she and Taylor built east of Fairland. Previously, she and Taylor lived in Grove (1971-1977); Safford, Ariz., (1964-1966); Fayetteville, Ark., (1957-1962); Placerville, Calif., (1940-1957), and Joplin, Mo., (1950-1951, 1953, 1966-1970). From 1949-1977 Taylor constructed houses and Doris helped in the planning and decorating. While living in Placerville, Calif., from 1947-1957, Doris belonged to church groups and other benevolent organizations.
Doris loved to read and read hundreds of books. In about 1955 she learned she would eventually go blind from an incurable eye disease. For the past 20 years she received and listened to talking books for the blind.
Services will be in Joplin, Mo., at the Parker Mortuary, Wednesday, October 10, at 2 p.m. followed by burial at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Charles King, minister, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bill Fenix, Jr., Douglas Fenix, Jackson Fenix, Cyle Pierson, Richard Smith and Anthony Wheeler. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Wednesday until service time at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy.

OLEVIA FERNETTI
GROVE - Olevia Fernetti, 82, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2001 in Grove, Okla. She was born in Kansas on May 13, 1919 to Irene and Moses Gomez. Olevia and Antone Fernetti were married in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frontenac, Kan. on December 11, 1935.
Mrs. Fernetti worked at Liberty Cleaners and Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frontenec, and was a member of the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Grove, where she lived with her daughter, Tonna Zuech and family.
Olevia was preceded in death by her husband, Antone Fernetti.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolleen Marrs of Bartlesville, Okla., and Tonna Zuech and husband, Ernest, of Grove; five grandchildren, Marianna Zuech, Bartlesville, Kimberlee Hughlett, Houston, Tex., Laura Neal, Bartlesville, Terry Marrs, Tulsa, Okla., and David Zuech, Enid, Okla.; four great grandsons, Jason Johnson, Dane Holady, Brandon Neal and James Zuech; six great granddaughters, Jentry Dodd, Samantha Neal, Taylor Hughlett, Whitney Hughlett, Abbey Zuech and Katie Zuech.
Pallbearers will be Terry Marrs, Ronnie Joe Neal, David Zuech, Jeffery Hughlett, Dane Holady, Terry Fernetti, Ronnie Fernetti, and Brandon Neal.
A Rosary was held at 5:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Grove on Sunday, December 30. Funeral Mass was held 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 31 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Frontenac.
Gifts may be made to Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Sacred Heart Church, Frontenac, Kan., 66762.
Services were under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, 711 S. Main, Grove.

LORENE FISHER
GROVE - Lorene Fisher, 76-year-old lifetime resident, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2001 at Craig General Hospital following a long illness.
Lorene was born July 1, 1925 at Big Cabin, Okla., to Jim and Gilley (Carroll) Sloan. She was a graduate of Big Cabin High School. Lorene was a homemaker and a longtime member of the First Church of God, Vinita.
Lorene was united in marriage to Eugene Fisher in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Priscilla.
Lorene was a longtime resident of Rosewood Terrace Nursing Center and will be greatly missed by both residents and staff.
Survivors include: one son, Gary Fisher and wife, Tina, of Bluejacket, Okla.; two sisters, Toni Randolph of Welch, Okla., and Doris Hoover of Bluejacket' one brother, James Sloan of Houston, Texas; three grandsons, Brent, Kyle, and Wade Fisher, and one niece, Linda Berry of Vinita.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 27, at Big Cabin Cemetery. Rev. Eddie Wrinkle will officiate.
Viewing hours for Mrs. Fisher will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 26, at the Burckhalter Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home, Vinita.
