ESTHER JUANITA GOODING
JAY, Okla. - Esther Gooding, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001 in Grove after an illness. The daughter of Richard and Ida (Cobb) Gooding, she was born Jan. 20, 1922 near Topsy, Okla. She lived all her life in Delaware County and attended the Topsy Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a sister, Ruby Davis, of Pryor, Okla.; a brother, Vermont Gooding, of Pryor, Okla., and nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held in the Mose Ridge Cemetery in Topsy at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

KENNETH EARL GRAHAM
GROVE - Kenneth Earl Graham, age 79, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 in his home near Grove. The son of Raymond and Lillian (Buzzard) Graham, he was born on August 13, 1921 in Independence, Kan. Kenneth spent 30 years in the Marine Corps, retiring to Rocky Comfort, Mo. where he had a ranch and worked for Sunbeam in Neosho. He married Susanne Hass on February 14, 1946.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Graham, of Grove; five children, Seena Duncan of Springfield, Ill., Linda Jackson of Henderson, N.C., Kenneth Eugene Graham of Rocky Comfort, Mo., Virginia Graham of Flower, Ill., and Susan Marie Summett of Rogers, Ark.; a brother, Vernie Ray Graham, of Bartlesville, Ark.; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, in the First Christian Church with Wayne Shaw officiating. The interment will be in the Olympus Cemetery. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

LUCEIL F. GRAHAM
JAY, Okla. - Luceil F. Graham passed away quickly and peacefully on September 5, 2001. She was born in Arkedelphia, Ark., in 1909 and celebrated her 92nd birthday two weeks ago on August 22. She had recently moved to Colorado to be near her two grandchildren, James and Sue. She lived with them for a time, but had moved to a nursing home three blocks from James' home. Her grandchildren visited her often and she said that made her feel like a million dollars.
She missed her friends and home in Jay. She and her husband, Maxwell S., retired there in 1971. Max had worked for Amoco for many years and Luceil was his right arm during their many moves. They married in 1929 and had one daughter, Virginia, in 1930. Her husband and daughter preceded her in death. She was very active in the Republican Women's Club, was a magnificent knitter. She gave many things to family and friends and was glad to teach knitting to anyone who wanted to learn. She also liked gardening.
Memorial services will be held for Luceil Saturday, September 8, at 10 a.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Grove. Services will be under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel, Grove.

MIKE GRANT
MIAMI, Okla. - Mike Grant, 60, of Miami, died August 7, 2001 at his home after a sudden illness. Mike was born March 6, 1941 and grew up in Wyandotte, Okla. He graduated from Wyandotte High School and Northeastern State University. Mr. Grant taught school 29 years at East Carter R-2 Schools in Ellisnore, Mo. After his retirement in 1996, he moved to Miami. Mr. Grant was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Miami.
His father, Sidney R. Grant, and his mother, Nadine M. Grant, preceded him in death.
Survivors are: sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Darrell Watts, of Clarkston, Mich.; niece, Sheri Watts of Olathe, Kan.; nephew and his wife, Grant and Sandra Watts, of Natick, Mass., and two great nieces.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 11, in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. Rev. Chuck Horton will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Commerce.

CHARLIE F. GREEN, SR.
DEPEW, Okla. - Charlie F. Green, Sr., 90-year-old resident of Depew, Okla., died Monday, August 20, 2001, at Grace Living Center in Jenks, Okla. Born November 25, 1910 in White Oak, Mo., he was the son of Ezra Green and Daisy Foster Greene. Mr. Greene had been a radio repairman. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. Mr. Greene was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Randall Greene, and three brothers, Red Greene, Reuben Greene and Martin Greene.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Bright Greene, of the home; one son, Charlie F. Greene, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Depew; one daughter, Vasilla Spencer, Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren, Heath Spencer and Gabriel Spencer, both of Tulsa; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Powell Greene and Harry Greene, both of Belleville, Ill.; two sisters, Mae Fortman and Kate Hill, both of Walterloo, Ill., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August, 22, at Johnson Cemetery, Delaware County. Burial followed in the Johnson Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

LEO GREEN
GROVE - Leo Green, age 82, formerly of Coffeyville, Kan., died Saturday morning, August 25, 2001 at Saint John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., following a heart attack at his home in Grove. Mr. Green was born June 16, 1919 at Bronaugh, Mo., to Denver and Lillie May (Evans) Green. He grew up in the Vinita and Welch, Okla., areas, until he moved with his family to Coffeyville at the age of 14. He retired from Union Gas System in 1984 after 37 years of employment. At his retirement he was assistant superintendent of the Coffeyville district. On June 25, 1938, he married Opal E. Graves in Coffeyville, where they lived most of their married life until they moved to Grove in 1986. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year. Mrs. Green was employed at the Coffeyville Journal 20 years and also retired in 1984.
Survivors are: his wife, Opal, of the home; two daughters, Carole Cunningham, of El Dorado, Kan., and Glenda Healy, of Lincoln City, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Kay Green and Katherine Decker.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 30, in Fairview Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kan. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Thursday before the service, 12:30 until 1:30 p.m.

THOMAS WILLIAM GREENEN
MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. - Thomas William Greenen, 78, died at his home Tuesday, April 3, 2001 after an illness. Thomas was born May 4, 1922 at Pittsburg, Kan. to Thomas and Mary Greenen. After high school, Thomas was drafted by the Army and served for three years. After being discharged in 1945, Thomas became a professional photographer until retirement. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Greenen, of the home; one daughter, Karen Greenen of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Katherine C. Greenen and Mary H. Greenen, both of Kansas City, Mo.; and three nieces and three nephews.
A private graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at the Ralston Cemetery, Monkey Island. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial be made in memory of Thomas Greenen to the Good Shepherd Hospice 2100 S. Main, Grove, OK 74344 or The American Cancer Society. Services are under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel, Grove.

WILMA JEAN (UTTON) GREENWOOD
BLUEJACKET, Okla. - Wilma Jean (Utton) Greenwood, of rural Bluejacket, passed away at 10:30 Wednesday evening, May 16, 2001, at her home after a long illness. She was 73-years-old. Mrs. Greenwood was born December 9, 1927 at Wyandotte, Okla. to Floyd Leroy and Carrie Dilliner Utton. She attended Wyandotte schools. On May 25, 1946, she married Jim Greenwood in Columbus, Kan. From their union came a loving family. Wilma and Jim lived in White Oak until 1949, then moved to Vinita. They remained in Vinita for three years before moving back to the Wyandotte area. In July 1966, Jim and Wilma moved just west of Bluejacket on Timber Hill. Jim passed away on August 29, 1991. Wilma enjoyed her life as a homemaker and taking care of her family. She loved to sew and read. Mrs. Greenwood was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim, two sons, James David Greenwood and Randy Allen Greenwood, one sister, Jewel Berry, two brothers, Bill and Frank Utton, and one grand daughter, Amanda Petty.
She is survived by four sons, Thomas Greenwood and wife, Lovey, Bluejacket, Okla., Kenneth Greenwood and wife, Sharon, also of Bluejacket, Gary Greenwood and wife, Cindy, of Big Cabin, Okla., and Floyd Greenwood, of Afton, Okla.; four daughters, Susan McElhaney and husband, Bob, Bluejacket, Laura Lucas and husband, Thomas, Wendell, Idaho, Sheila Burris and husband, Dale, of Afton, Okla., and Karen Greenwood of the home; five sisters, Francis McKinzie, Bluejacket, Leota Fraley, South Bend, Wash., Linda Campbell, Port Haddock, Wash., Trish Minor, Port Townsend, Wash., and Sheila Robbins of Forrest Grove, Ore.; one brother, Joe Utton, Bend, Ore.; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and many special friends that called her mom, ma and granny.
There will be a visitation for family and friends from 2:00 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon, May 20, at the Thomas Chapel. Services for Mrs. Greenwood will be held at 10:00 Monday morning, May 21, at the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel, Welch, Okla. Reverend Ralph Heiney will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Fry, Clarence Fair, Jamie Williams, Darrel Henderson, Larry Joe Williams and Jim Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Horton, Joe William, Sam Looney, Willie Osborn, Shawn Henderson, Marlon Porter and Rob Windle. Interment will be at the Bluejacket Cemetery, Bluejacket. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Greenwood, 441353 E. 160 Rd., Bluejacket. Services are under the direction of the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, Okla.

JAMES (JAY) E. GREGORY
MIAMI, Okla. - James (Jay) E. Gregory, Miami, died at St. John's Hospital in Joplin Sunday, April 22, 2001 after a sudden illness. He was 72. Mr. Gregory was born at Afton, Okla. November 26, 1928 to Jess and Marry (George) Gregory. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army. He worked in cement construction for many years, working before retirement for Devcon in San Jose, Calif. He married Gladys Gill at Clovis, N.M. on February 22, 1953, and they lived in Calif. until he retired in 1985, when they moved to Miami. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Miami.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of the home; two sons, James Gregory and wife, Doreen, of Fremont, Calif., and Danny Gregory of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two daughters, Rhonda Gregory of Upland, Calif., and Cheryl Gregory of Los Gatos, Calif.; three sisters, Thermadene and husband, Glen George, of Afton, Jessie Mitchell of Hennessey, Okla., and Frances Smith of Paris, Texas; and one grandchild, Joshua Alan Gregory Levin of San Jose, Calif.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at First Assembly of God Church in Miami with Rev. Cary Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at First Assembly of God Church in Miami. Burial will be at Higgins Cemetery, Higgins, Texas, under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland.

HAYMOND "HANK" LISLE GRIFFITH, JR.
COWETA, Okla. - Haymond Griffith Jr. died Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital in Broken Arrow after a sudden illness. The son of Haymond "Hank" and Dorothy L. (Honea) Griffith, he was born on August 30, 1957 in San Antonio, Texas. Hank married Sherry Elaine Husong on November 5, 1975 in Grove. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, North American Aerospace Rod and Gun club, and a certified Scuba Diver. An avid hunter and builder, Hank was attending Cleet Security School. He graduated from Grove High School in 1975. Both his parents preceded him in death in 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Elaine Griffith, of Coweta, Okla.; three children, Haymond L. Griffith III and his wife, Jessica, of Haskell, Okla., Jeremy Griffith of Coweta, and Nick Griffith of Coweta, and a sister, Debbie Higgins, of Broken Arrow, Okla.
A memorial was at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel. Interment was in the Hickory Cemetery. The services were under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

IDA GRUNDEN
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Ida Grunden, 93-year-old long time Fairland area resident, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2001 at the Family Care Center in Fairland following an illness.
Mrs. Grunden was born November 24, 1907 in Shadduck, Okla., to Walter and Rose (Weiss) George. She married William John "Bill" Grunden on February 14, 1927 in Afton. Mrs. Grunden was a homemaker as well as a loving mother and grandmother. She lived in the Fairland and Grand Lake area most of her life and attended the Fairland Assembly of God.
Survivors are: two sons, John and wife, Elma Grunden, of Fairland, and Tom and wife, Jean Grunden, of Broken Arrow; three daughters, Maudie and husband, Shorty Myers, of Disney, Zee and husband, Bob Ballew, of Grove, and Pat and husband, Warren Thomure, of Afton; one sister, Nina Coffee of Calif.; two brothers, Kermit George of Hayes, Kan., and Floyd George of Arlington, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Grunden was preceded in death by her husband on September 4, 1979.
A visitation for Mrs. Grunden will be held from 6-8 p.m. August 6 at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel in Fairland. Funeral services for Mrs. Grunden will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, at the Fairland Assembly of God with the Rev. Ron Cross officiating. Casket bearers will be Glenn Thomure, Lynn Bowen, David Grunden, Mike Myers, Jeff Thomure, and Rocky Bowen. Interment will follow in the Fairland Cemetery.

"JOEY" DOUGLAS GUNN
VINITA, Okla. - "Joey" Douglas Gunn, infant son of Kevin Douglas Gunn and Nancy Arlene (Latham) Gunn, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2001 in Vinita. Joey was born May 15, 2001 at Plano, Texas.
Survivors are: his parents, Kevin and Nancy Gunn, of the home; one brother, Markus Gunn, of the home; maternal grandparents, Les and Arlene Latham, of Phoenix, Ariz.; paternal grandparents, Joe and Mary Gunn, of Vinita; maternal aunts and uncles, Ben Latham of Albuquerque, N.M., Mark and Kim Liston, of Carrollton, Texas, and Lonnie Hendrix, of Phoenix, Ariz.; great aunt, Vera Debruler, of Payson, Ariz.; paternal aunts and uncles, Dave and Shannon Scott, of Vinita, and Terry and Cindy Gunn, of Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 13, in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, Vinita. Rev. Henry Chenault will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the S.I.D.S. Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

KEFTON L. HACKLER
GROVE - Kefton L. Hackler, 85, died Saturday, April 21, 2001 at Grand Lake Villa. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Ellis Family Funeral Home, Grove, with the Grove Veterans Ritual Team officiating.
Kefton Leland Hackle was born on March 20, 1916 in Tilden, Mo. to John and Berta Wilson Hackler. He married Clara Kroph on June 12, 1940 in Winfield, Kan. Mr. Hackler was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He served in World War II, The Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War before his retirement in 1962. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Clara, of Grove; one son, Kefton L. Hackler, Jr. of Rosalia, Kan.; one daughter, Jean Wellensiek of Grove; three sisters, Hilma Braman of El Dorado, Kan., and Joy Cox and Sharon, both of San Jose, Calif.; and one brother, Deacon Hackler of El Dorado, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and one grandson.
Memorials contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, OK 74344, 918-786-5172.

FREDA MAE HAGGARD
JAY, Okla. - Freda Mae Haggard passed away May 27, 2001 at St. John's Hospital Joplin, Mo. Freda was born January 1, 1931 in Chouteau, Okla. to Hosey and Lema Dyer Chidester. Freda grew up in Chouteau where she attended elementary and high school. She married Bub Haggard December 21, 1948 in Benton County, Ark. The couple moved to their farm in 1949 to begin raising cattle. While Bub worked on the pipeline, Freda cared for the farm and their two children, Kay and Marion. Bub passed away in 1995 and Freda continued caring for the farm. She loved tending to her cattle, her garden and her dog. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bub.
She is survived by her children, Kay Payden of Muskogee, Okla., and Marion Haggard of Spavinaw, Okla., and five grandchildren, Shannon Payden and wife, Rebecca, of Strang, Okla., Jason Payden of Warner, Okla., Jerry Wayne Haggard and wife, Cindy, of Disney, Okla., Shelly Payden of Muskogee, Okla., and Josie Haggard and husband, Shawn, of Topsy, Okla.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 30 at Turner Funeral Chapel Jay. Graveside services will be Thursday, May 31, at 10 a.m. at Mose Ridge Cemetery, Topsy, Okla., under direction of Turner Funeral Chapel Jay.

JOHN JODY HAGGARD
TOPSY, Okla. - John Jody Haggard, 92, died in Gravette Hospital in Gravette, Ark., on November 13, 2001. John was born to Frank and Melvina Jane Haggard at Topsy, Okla., where he lived his entire life. John was a carpenter by trade, but after his Baptism In The Lord his vocation was working for the Lord and the Church where he had many brothers and sisters in Christ. John was married to Iva Bell Fisher on May 2, 1929 who preceded him in death. To this union there were seven daughters and one son. One daughter died at birth and one daughter, Virginia, preceded him in death.
He is survived by: five daughters, Thelma Wilson, Eucha, Okla., Joyce Barnet, Jay, Okla., Martha Asher, Foyil, Okla., Marline Robertson, Jay, Okla., and Jeanie Swan, Crowell, Texas; one son, Glen Haggard, Topsy, Okla.; 19 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
