VERA HAGLER
WEBSTER, Okla. - Vera Hagler, 88, of Webster City, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at the Hamilton Hospital. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Monett, Mo., with Rev. Arley (Bud) Worthington officiating. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home.
Vera, daughter of Price and Edna Gifford Harris, was born September 2, 1912 at Poteau, Okla. She received her education at Wetumka, Okla. On January 21, 1930, she married Efton Hagler at Wewoka, Okla. The couple had lived in Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, Missouri and Oklahoma. Mr. Hagler died December 28, 1988. She moved to Webster City in August of 2000.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Joyce Hagler of Webster City, Paul and Marian Hagler of Edmonton, Alberta, daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Russell Bonacker of Bella Vista, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Daisy Stilley of Grand Prairie, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren and four sisters.
She was a member of the Independent Baptist Church in Grove, and was a Gray Lady volunteer at Columbia, Mo.

LARRY HAMMER
FAIRVIEW, Okla. - Services for Larry Hammer, longtime publisher of the Cherokee Messenger and Republican, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2001 at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church on East State Road in Fairview. Arrangements were under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home, 580-227-4722.
Hammer died July 19 while on a fishing trip in Canada.
Hammer was born Sept. 7, 1937 in Tipton. He began his newspaper career as sports editor at the Okmulgee Daily Times.
In addition to owning and publishing the Cherokee Messenger and Republican, Hammer at one time owned and operated the Fairview Republican and Woodward County Journal.
Hammer was elected to the OPA Board of Directors in 1971 and served on almost every committee. He was elected OPA president in 1976. He also served on the board of trustees for the Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation. In 1996, Hammer was the recipient of the OPA's annual Milt Phillips Award.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Hoby and Jo Hammer, of Fairview; his daughter, Holley of Cherokee, and three grandchildren.

NELLIE SUSIE JOHNSTON HAMPTON
GROVE - Nellie Hampton, age 93, left to be with her Lord on Monday, May 28, 2001. The daughter of Stephen and Mary Medlene (Kesder) Johnston, she was born on April 13, 1908 in Maysville, Ark. Nellie was a member of the Dodge Baptist Church. She lived all of her life in the Grove area where she was a cook and homemaker. As the last of her family, she was survived by her parents, her husband, George, two sons, Charles and Donald, a daughter, Patsy Jo, three brothers, Parker, Raymond, and Harry, and four sisters, Mattie Lewis, Necie Kirkbride, Clara Curry and Cloa Hart;
She is survived by her two daughters, Genevieve Tucker of Johnson, Kan., and Nadine Gaston of Grove; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel. The interment will be in the Olympus Cemetery. There will be a visitation of family and friends in the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

GOLDA FAYE HANCOCK
JAY, Okla. - Funeral services for Golda Faye Hancock, 87, of Jay, Okla. were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2001 at the Southside Church of Christ in Jay, with Steve Stenzel and Bill Richardson officiating. Burial followed at Duffield Cemetery in Jay, under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Pall bearers were the men of Southside Church of Christ.
Golda was born on December 1, 1913, in Valley Springs, Ark., the daughter of Henry and Annie (Cooper) Robertson, and she passed from this life on Wednesday, September 5 in Jay. Golda grew up in Cordell, Okla., and was a schoolteacher and worked for Tri-Kim for many years.
Golda was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, George Sappington, her second husband, George Ray Hancock, and one brother, Lewis Clifford Robertson.
Survivors include: three stepsons, David Hancock, Emory, Texas, Truman Hancock, Marshall, Mo., and Ray Hancock, Emory, Texas; one nephew, Ronnie Robertson, Bethany, Okla.; a dear friend Betty Brown, Eucha, Okla., and a host of other loved ones and friends.

SHARON QUANDT HANKE
KENAI, Alaska - Sharon Quandt Hanke, 57, of Kenai, Alaska, died at her home Sunday, August 12, 2001. She was born February 9, 1944 in Santa Fe, N.M., to the late Pauline M. Quandt Church and Alvin Quandt. She was a retired employee of Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 17, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fairland, Okla., with the Rev. Leo Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Fairland, under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Fairland.
Survivors are: two daughters, Stephanie Eberhart, of Anchorage, and Wendi Stembridge, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Brian Hanke, of Kenai, and Doug Hanke, of Anchorage; her father, Bill Quandt of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; a brother, Howard Quandt of Ore.; six sisters, Gretchen Quandt and Peggy Quandt of Calif., Margie Neeley, of Dardanelle, Ark., Phyllis Poyhonen, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Virginia VanEs, of Springdale, Ark., and Sandra Davis, of Russellville, Ark.; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline M. Quandt Church, of Russellville, Ark.; two brothers, William (Bill) Quandt of Bakersfield, Calif., and Calvin Quandt of Kenai Alaska, and one grandchild, Trey Stembridge III, of Anchorage, Alaska.

LLOYD B. HANKINS
GROVE - Lloyd B. Hankins, 93, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Betty Ann Nursing Center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, at Ellis Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Winfield, Kan., at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Betty Ann Nursing Center Activity Department, P.O. Box 450547, Grove, OK 74345.
Mr. Hankins was born on July 9, 1908 to Riley and Belle Hankins in Boynton, Okla. At the age of two, the family moved to Winfield, Kan., where he attended school. After graduating from high school, Hank, as he was known to all, worked for the City of Winfield for 42 years. Mr. Hankins married LaVerna Hinkley on March 23, 1933 at the Sumner County Courthouse in Wellington, Kan. She preceded him in death in 1989. Hank was active in Lions Club, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, and was an active member of the Happy Sam's Camping Club and several other camping clubs in the Winfield area.
Survivors include: one son, Lee B. Hankins and wife, Barbara, Hattiesburg, Miss.; three grandsons, Gary, Craig and Chris, of Missippi; and three great grandchildren.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, 918-786-5172.

MABELL MAY HANNON
GROVE - Mabell May Hannon of Grove died Monday, December 17, 2001 at the Grand Lake Villa Nursing Center. She was 88.
Mabell was born April 11, 1913 to William T. and Mattie B. (Caton) Reno at Cleora, Okla. She worked at the Guinn Nursing Home in Jay. Mabell has lived in the area most of her life. She married Orvel R. Hannon, he preceded her in death November 1, 2001.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, at the Zena Cemetery. Rev. John E. Butler to officiate. Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

ORVEL R. "MONK" HANNON
GROVE - Orvel R. "Monk" Hannon died Thursday, November 1, 2001 at Integris Grove General Hospital. He was 90.
Monk was born August 13, 1911 to Lee A. and Shelly M. (Lacey) Hannon in Joplin, Mo. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He worked as a farmer most of his life and was a lifetime area resident. He married Mabell (Reno) Hannon, she survives.
Other survivors include: one sister, Eula Thompson, Joplin, Mo.; and neighbor and caretaker G.T. Landrum, Jay, Okla.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 5, at the Worley-Luginburel Funeral Home in Grove. Rev. John E. Butler will officiate. Interment will be at the Zena Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

DOUGLAS E. HANSON
AFTON, Okla. - Douglas E. Hanson, minister at First Christian Church of Afton, died Saturday, August 11, 2001 after a lengthy illness. He was 59. He was born July 8, 1942 at Breckenridge, Minn., to Wilbur and Bernice Kluck Hanson. He was a graduate of Chokio, Minn., High School with the class of 1960. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1965. After serving in the armed forces, he worked as an estimator for a construction company. He then went to Dakota Bible College where he met his future wife, Marilyn Knight. They married on July 4, 1970 at Eminence, Mo. While in college, he had a student ministry at Pipestone, Minn. After finishing school, he ministered at Park Church of Christ in Goldfield, Iowa, from 1974-79. In 1979 he went to Shenandoah, Iowa, and established the New Testament Church of Christ, where he ministered until 1993. In 1993 he moved to Afton to minister at the First Christian Church, where he has had a very influential ministry to the entire area. He was active in many areas, including the ministerial alliance and the Meals-on-Wheels program. He worked with the school system in many ways, especially enjoying watching his son play football.
Survivors are: his wife, Marilyn, of the home; his mother, Bernie Hanson, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; three sons, James Allen and wife, Jennifer Hanson, of Joplin, Mo., Michael Hanson of Welch, and Bill Hanson; five brothers, Larry Hanson of Norfolk, N.D., Dick Hanson of Rosemount, Minn., and Bill Hanson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lynn Hanson of Kansas City, Mo., and Paul Hanson of Roseville, Minn.; one sister, Lois Shivers of Altoona, Iowa; and two grandchildren of whom he was especially proud, Julia and Jacob Hanson of Joplin.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, at the Afton High School gym with Dr. Harold (Bud) Clapp and Minister Lee Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Martin, Terry Miller, Bill Birdsell, Brian Speer, T.J. Miller, and Jerry Chandler. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Afton with the Grove Veterans Ritual Team performing military rites.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Afton. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the First Christian Church Educational Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home of Afton.

NELDA RUTH HARDY
GROVE - Nelda Ruth Hardy, age 65, died Thursday, August 9, 2001 in the Freeman West Hospital after a sudden illness. The daughter of Charles and Grace (McKnight) Riggs, she was born on May 1, 1936 in Bartlesville, Okla. She married Jerry Dale Hardy and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1996. Nelda Ruth lived in the Grove area all her life. She was also preceded in death by a son, Carl McMahan, on November 30, 1992.
Survivors are: three children, Calvin McMahan and Teresa Wood of Grove, Patricia Nave and William Brown, Canadian, Okla., and William McMahan and wife, Annette, in Anderson, Mo.; a brother, Lawrence Melvin Riggs in Chetopa, Kan.; two sisters, Ester Kubly in Madison, Wis., and Victoria Jenkins in Wyandotte, Okla.; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at the graveside in the Buzzard Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 11. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

MAURICE D. HARGROVE
OLATHE, Kan. - Maurice D. Hargrove, 92, passed away on June 20, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Center in Olathe. Mr. Hargrove was born on May 6, 1909 in Neosho, Mo., but spent a number of years in old Bernice, Okla., as a child. After his retirement from the Keebler Company, he was a long time resident of both Grove and Miami, Okla., until 1998. He lived at the Grand Court in Overland Park, Kan., prior to his transfer to the Good Samarian Center in Olathe. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy and active in the Masonic Lodge in Grove.
He is survived by his two sons, Dean Hargrove of Los Angeles, Calif., and Phil Hargrove of Olathe, Kan.; four grandchildren, John, Joanne, Matthew, and Caitlin Hargrove; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Brynna Hargrove.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 2, at 3 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Iola, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Heartland Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

CLYDE EUGENE HARKER
VINITA, Okla. - Clyde Eugene Harker, 75-year-old Vinita resident, passed away Friday, December 14, 2001 at Craig General Hospital.
Clyde was born December 2, 1926 at Dewey, Okla., to Lester and Zella (Johnson) Harker. He was a retired farmer. Clyde was also a World War II Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army 547th Ordinance HV Maintenance Co.
Clyde is survived by one brother, Walter L. Harker, and his wife, Verline, of Norman, Okla. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, at the Pheasant Hill Cemetery. Rev. Henry "Skip" McClain will officiate.
Visitation will to 8 p.m. Monday, December 17, at the Burckhalter Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

NANCY E. HARKINS
MIAMI, Okla. - Nancy E. Harkins of Miami died at 11:18 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001 at the Miami Nursing Center after a long illness. She was 99. Nancy Harkins was born April 27, 1902 at Russellville, Ark., to George Washington and Ida Irene (Davis) Harden. She had moved to Miami from Russellville in 1923, where she had been a homemaker and housewife. Mrs. Harkins was married to the late C.J. "Cade" Harkins on April 9, 1919 at Russellville. She attended the Church of Christ.
Survivors are: two daughters, Clydene and husband, Tom Bond, Miami, and Flo Wilcox, Miami; a half-sister, Elsie VanHouten, Hazen, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969, and four sons, C.J. Harkins, Jr., Billy Joe Harkins, James Marshall Harkins and Jack Dennis Harkins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Chuck Price officiating. Burial will follow in the G.A.R. Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Wilcox, Geoff Bond, Steve Bond, Warren Harkins, John Harkins, and Paul Snodgrass.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel Monday evening from 7 until 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Diabetes Association of the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
