CHARLES WILLIAM JENKS
KANSAS, Okla. - Charles Williams Jenks, 70-year-old resident of Kansas, Okla., died Sunday, July 22, 2001 at Saint John's Medical Center in Tulsa. Born March 25, 1931 in Gentry, Ark., he was the son of Albert Rice Jenks and Willa Edith Medley Jenks.
Mr. Jenks had been a longtime resident of Kansas. He was a retired aircraft mechanic for McDonnell Douglas. Mr. Jenks was in the army where he was a veteran of the Korean War. He was affiliated with the Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are: his wife, Pauline Shaffer Jenks, of the home; four sons, Chuck Jenks and his wife, Betty, of Kansas, Kenneth Wayne Jenks of Colcord, Tim Jenks of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Mike Jenks and his wife, Tammy, of Siloam Springs; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Jenks and his wife, Violet, and Billy Jo Jenks, all of Muskogee, and two sisters, Louise Cowden of Locust Grove, and Faye Ricketts of Tulsa.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs. Burial will follow in Gentry Cemetery, Gentry, Ark. Services are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

ROBERT CARROLL JOBST
GROVE - Robert Carroll Jobst of Grove died Thursday, May 24, 2001 at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. He was 75. Mr. Jobst. was born June 11, 1926 to John and Beatrice Blackmore Jobst at Independence, Mo. He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific, Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron. After serving his country, he attended Central Missouri State University receiving his bachelor's degree in Education in 1952. He continued his education and received his Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision in 1960. Mr. Jobst's career included teaching and retiring as principle in 1986 at Kansas City, Mo. Past professional affiliations included: MSTA, MNEA, MAESP, KDP and PDK. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, Lions, Club, and a 32 Degree Mason. He married Barbara Stauder June 15, 1952 at Lamont, Mo. He and his wife moved to Grove in 1997 from Raymore, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jobst, of Grove; one son, Dr. Karl Jobst of Grove; one daughter, Merriel Stebbins, Olathe, Kan.; two sisters, Esther Sherman and Delite Bowen, both of Independence, Kan., and one grandson, Bryan Stebbins.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Rev. Stephen Decker officiated. Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, Mo.

ARLINE JOHNSON
MUSKOGEE, Okla.- Arline Johnson, 88, prominent antique dealer, left this world and joined her husband in Glory on Friday, April 6, 2001.
She was born in Grove on April 8,1912 to William T. and Deborah (Sager) Sheldon. On February 11, 1929, at the age of 17, she married her sweetheart, Carl Johnson. They were together until July 22, 1996, when he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Johnson was an antique dealer for over 50 years. For 25 years, she promoted national antique shows. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years and taught the "U Need Us" Sunday School class, the oldest women's adult class.
Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, James H. Sheldon, of Fairland, Okla., Booker Maxwell, friend and employee for 35 years; nieces and nephews, Ann Curie of Shawnee, Okla., John Lefler of Muskogee, Okla., Joanna Howerton of Wagoner, Okla., Jim Gault of Grove, Jean Sanders of Claremore, Okla., Wanda Tyler of Colorado, Richard Sheldon of Tulsa, Okla., Jimmy Johnson of Enid, Okla., and Mike Johnson and Don Johnson, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Sheldon, and two sisters, Mamie Gault and Genevieve Lefler.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at first Baptist Church of Muskogee with Dr. David Becker officiating. Entombment followed at Memorial park Mausoleum.
The family entrusted the Bradley Family Funeral Service with the arrangements.

KELLY MARIE JOHNSON
JOPLIN, Mo. - Kelly Marie Johnson, 36, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at home in Joplin, Mo., after a sudden illness. Mrs. Johnson was born on September 22, 1965 to William D. and Lupe (Ledesma) Myers in Long Beach, Calif. She married Danny Johnson. Mrs. Johnson moved to this area in 1986 from Long Beach, Calif.
Survivors include: her husband, Danny, Joplin, Mo.; her parents, William and Lupe Myers, Afton, Okla.; two brothers, Ed Estrella, Long Beach, Calif., and Carlos Estrella, Grove; her grandfather, Curtis Myers, Afton, Okla.; her grandmother, Ester Myers, Afton, Okla.; and two stepsons, Clint and Shane Johnson, Joplin, Mo.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Grove. The services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

LEONARD M. (JIGGS) JOHNSON
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Leonard M. (Jiggs) Johnson died Friday morning at Family Care Center of Fairland after a lengthy illness. He was 85. He was born July 9, 1916 at Afton to Charles and Deddie Mullnix Johnson. He was a graduate of Afton High School with the class of 1934. He married Pauline Moore at Vinita on December 22, 1941. He was a dedicated farmer / rancher, participating in many different agricultural groups in Ottawa County. He served on the Afton Board of Education from 1953-1970. He was a member of the Union Equity Board from 1972-1981, and served several years on the Afton Coop Board and FHA Administration Board. He was named the Afton Outstanding Alumni for 1999. He was a member of the Afton Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church of Afton where he served as treasurer for 16 years.
He is survived by: his wife, Pauline; two sons, LeRoy and wife, Connie, and Wayne and wife, Elsa, all of Afton; four grandchildren, Scott and wife, Kim, Justin and wife, Nicole, Amy Johnson Ford and husband, Lee, and Eric; three sisters, Alma Hill, Buckeye, Ariz., Juanita Martinez of DeSoto, Kan., and Agnes Hays, Claremore, Okla., and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Varnel, Bob, and Wilburn Johnson, five sisters, Pansey Johnson, Wilma Mackmurty, Louise George, Madge Grimes and Ruby Ohler, and one grandson, Wade Monroe Johnson. Services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 14, at First Baptist Church in Afton with Rev. Bill Maxey officiating, assisted by Rev. Jack Jones and Rev. Jim Drake. Pall bearers were Scott and Kim Johnson, Justin and Nicole Johnson, Lee and Amy Johnson Ford, and Eric Johnson. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Afton. Services were under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home of Afton.

WALLACE HERMAN JOHNSON
MIAMI, Okla. - Wallace Herman Johnson of Miami died at 6:46 a.m. Sunday May 6, 2001 at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center after a sudden illness. He was 78. Mr. Johnson was born April 19, 1923 in Kingsburg, Calif. to Alvin and Ina Louise (Back) Johnson. He worked for the Fresno California Police Department for 19 years prior to taking medical retirement, and graduated from the Central Union High School at Fresno California 1941. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He was a World War II Veteran. He attended the Narcissa Baptist Church where he served as assistant Sunday School director, trustee, Sunday School teacher and song leader. He married Doris Marie Ingram on July 1, 1949 at Fresno, Calif., she survives of the home.
He is survived by his son and wife, Mike and Charlene Johnson, Miami; two daughters and their husbands, Julie and Rob Kimbrough, Miami, and Renne and Larry Jahn, Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Iley Herdje, Fresno, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Michele Johnson, Los Angeles, Calif., Kimberly and Christopher Johnson, Miami, Kristi and Kelli Jahn, Fresno, Calif., and Sarah Katie and Allison Kimbrough, Miami; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Johnson, Fresno, Calif., and Betty Goodrich and her husband, Bob, Miami; two brother-in-laws, Floyd Ingram and his wife, Gloria, Tonkawas, Okla., and LeRoy Ingram and his wife, Mary, Miami, and several nieces and nephews. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the First Christian Church with minister Leon Weece officiating. Burial will be in the Glen-Abbey Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami. Pallbearers will be Harold McGuire, Johnny Etzel and Jason Etzel, Garry Eulitt, Heath Gaines and David Ingram. Members of the Northeast Oklahoma Veterans Funeral Detail will conduct military rites.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, May 8, from 7 until 8 p.m. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Gideons International and may be sent in care of the Funeral Home.

GAYLEN W. JONES
AFTON, Okla. - Gaylen W. Jones of Afton died Friday, June 8, 2001, at his home of natural causes. He was 55. He was born March 18, 1946 at LaVerkin, Utah, to Whitney and Ella Duncan Jones. His occupation was that of mechanic; however, he had been disabled for several years. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in Viet Nam. He had lived in Afton since 1975, coming from Hurricane, Utah. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.
He is survived by two brothers, Marlowe and wife, Christine, Jones of Laramie, Wyo., and Whitney and wife, Katherine, Jones of Santa Clara, Utah; two sisters, Clara Wilkins and husband, Cody, of LaVerkin, Utah, and Venice Weaver of Elko, Nev.
Local arrangements are through Adcock Funeral Venice Weaver of Elko, Nev.
Local arrangements are through Adcock Funeral Home of Afton. Funeral services will be at Metcalf Mortuary, located at St. George, Utah.

JOHNSON JONES
JAY - Johnson Jones, 84, died Thursday, December 27, 2001 at Grove General Hospital.
Johnson Jones was born July 4, 1917 in Delaware County, Okla. to Judge and Lizzie (O'Field) Jones. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Jones married Myrtle Littledave. She preceded him in death in 1995. He worked as a carpenter most of his life. Mr. Jones was a member and deacon of Piney Baptist Church of fifty years. He was a member of the American Legion of Grove.
Survivors include one brother, Dave Jones of Jay and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a son, Marvin Jones; four brothers, Chester, Tom, Johnny and Roy Jones; two sisters, Annabelle Drennan and Mary Chewey.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 31, at the Piney Baptist Church with John Gonzales officiating. Burial followed at O'Field Cemetery. Visitation was held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 30, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Okla.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

ELMO JOSEPH
PARSONS, Kan. - Elmo Joseph Sr., 79, Parsons, Kan., died at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons. He and his wife had returned to Parsons from Grove in March.
He was born November 10, 1921 to Orran N. and Lydia B. (Good) Joseph five and one half miles southeast of Parsons, in what is now the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. He graduated from Parsons High School and then graduated from the National School of Aeronautics in Kansas City, Mo. He was employed by the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Co. at Baltimore, Md. and the Boeing Colo. at Wichita until enlisting in the United State Army Air Forces in June of 1942. He served 42 months in military service, including 12 with the 20th USAAF flying off North Field in Guam. He received the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with two Battle Starts and the American Theatre Ribbon. After World War II, he returned to Parsons and was employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He then worked for USF&G Insurance Companies in Oklahoma City and in San Jose, Calif. He took early retirement in 1980 to serve the Homeland General Corporation and several branches of its organization as vice-president of Field Operations. He retired in 1986 and moved to Grove. Mr. Joseph was a Registered Professional Safety Engineer in California and was a past president and director of the American Society of Safety Engineers. He was a past president and director of the Insurance Auditors Association of California and was a certified Safety Professional and member of the California Governors Board of Safety Advisors. He was a member of the Grove American Legion Post 178 and was a life member of the Grove V.F.W. Post #8380. He served on the Grove Veterans Ritual Team for over 10 years. He also was a member of the Grove Moose Lodge and Grove A.A.R.P. He married Nola Meanor in Parsons on November 18, 1951.
He is survived by his wife, Nola Meanor, of the home; two sons, Ronald Joseph, Parsons, and Elmo Joseph, Jr., Coffeyville; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons, conducted by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team. The Carson-Wall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and friends may call their at their convenience. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and they may be sent to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons.

RAYMOND ALLEN KALVIG
GROVE - Raymond Allen Kalvig, Grove, died at his home Tuesday, April 3, 2001 after a lengthy illness. He was 60. Mr. Kalvig was born to Vern and Anna Marie Thiel Kalvig on December 18, 1940 at Fertile, Iowa. He had worked as an LPN for the past 10 years, with the majority of that time spent working with elderly people in nursing homes. His last place of employment was at Monroe Manor in Jay. He moved to Grove in 1997, coming from northwest Arkansas. He married Judy Burton in Harrington, Kan. on July 26, 1981.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Burton, of the home; two sons, Jesse Kalvig of Salina, Kan., and Kerry Kalvig of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Justine Speigle, of Abilene, Kan.; a step-daughter, Janie E. DeWall of New Franklin, Mo.; five brothers, Donald, Arthur, and Carl, all of Northwood, Iowa, David of Mason City, Iowa, and Elmer of Clear Lake, Iowa; three sisters, Verna Weitzel of Northwood, Iowa, Dorothy Schoolcraft of Hudson, Iowa, and Rachel Gatelleto of Orlando, Fla.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Dorothy and Bill Tinsley, of Trenton, Mo. and five grandchildren.
The body has been cremated. Arrangements were provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Afton.

DOROTHY JEAN KENNEDY
VINITA, Okla. - Dorothy Jean Kennedy, 71, retired school teacher, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at her home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Dorothy was born on February 10, 1930 in Todd, Okla., the daughter of Tom and Madge Shelton. She married Richard Kennedy May 1, 1954. He preceded her in death in 1987. They moved to Arma, Kan., where they owned and operated a pharmacy. They returned to Vinita and owned and operated Kennedy Drug Shop. She returned to college, received her teaching degree, and taught a Ketchum Elementary School. After her retirement she turned her love for antiques into the Nine Patch Antique Shop. Prior to her illness she worked at the Antique Mall of Vinita. Her love and enjoyment of life were her family, fiends, the outdoors, quilting and sewing. She was a member of the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She now joins her husband, parents, sister and brother in heaven.
Dorothy is survived by: her daughter, Kim Kennedy-McDonald; granddaughter, Jeanette Lea McDonald; sister-in-law, Melba Shelton; nephew, Jim Shelton and wife, Sara, all of Vinita; a brother, Clarence Shelton, Claremore; niece, Jan Winton and husband, Tony, of Grand Lake; and several great nephews and nieces.
Graveside services were held Friday, October 26, at 2 p.m. in the Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Charles J. Freeland, III officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

CARRIE NADINE KERNS
MIAMI, Okla. - Carrie Nadine Kerns, 66, of Miami, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at the home of her sister in Coffeyville, Kan. after an illness.
Mrs. Kerns was born January 16, 1935 in Craig County, Okla., to Alvin Kerns and Pearl (Palmer) Kerns Wilson. She lived in the Miami area most of her life. She married Raymond L. Kerns, he preceded her in death. Her father and a brother, Carl Leroy Kerns, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kerns was the activity director at the Betty Ann Nursing Home in Grove for several years.
Surviving are: son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Sheila Kerns, of Copan; daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Mike Sexton, and Crystal and Arnold Hale, all of Miami; mother and stepfather, Pearl and Jim Wilson, of Chetopa, Kan.; sister, Sharon Mann, of Coffeyville, Kan., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kerns will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, in the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Bro. Ron Frazier will officiate. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Edna, Kan., under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 Friday evening at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

CALVIN BLAIR KIDWELL
MIAMI, Okla. - Calvin Blair Kidwell, Sr., died Sunday, June 3, 2001 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo. after in illness. He was 63. Mr. Kidwell was born October 5, 1937 in Ottawa County, Okla. to Sammie B. and Jean (Moreland) Kidwell. He was a graduate of Miami High School in 1955. He then served in the U.S. Navy. After discharge he spent six years with the Kansas City, Mo. Police Department, rising to the Rank of Corporal and becoming one of the first officers on their mounted patrol and K-9 Corps. After leaving the police department, he started a career as a over-the-road truck driver which would take him to 48 states and Canada and Mexico. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Grove Post. He was preceded in death by his father, Sammie Blair Kidwell.
He is survived by three sons, Calvin Blair Kidwell, Jr. of White Hall, Ark., Stewart Burton Kidwell of Miami, Okla., and Stephen Mark Kidwell of Blaine, Washington; his mother, Jean Kidwell of Grove, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Seneca, Mo. Rev. Aaron Weible will officiate. Burial will be in the Seneca Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marvin Chester, Clinton Clark, Paul Surridge, Kent Ketcher, Charles Lofland and Jimmie Moreland. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, Okla.
