BETTIE I. LAGERS
GROVE - Bettie Lagers, age 92, died Saturday, December 22, 2001 in Grove. The daughter of Martin and Josephine (Drake) Six, she was born on April 3, 1919 in Omaha, Ark. For 25 years she was a homemother for Whitaker Boys Home in Pryor, Ok. Bettie was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Claremore, Ok. She moved to Grove in 1992. Bettie married J.H. Underwood and, after his death, she later married Vernon Lagers and he also preceded her in death. A daughter Ella Coxson preceded her in death.
Surviving are two children, J.B. Underwood and wife, Elsie, of Grove, Ladena Amos and husband, Leonard, in Kearney, Az., 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great great-children.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2001 in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel. Interment will be in the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

FAWN F. LAMBERSON
GROVE - Fawn F. Lamberson, age 84, died at Integris Grove General Hospital on Sunday, August 26, 2001. Fawn was born in Wheaton, Mo., December 22, 1916, the daughter of Aud and Pearl Lamberson. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1935. She moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she was employed by Sears Roebuck until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Grove. Her parents preceded her in death as did her two brothers, Laverne and Lawrence Allen, one sister, Erma Decocq, and her twin sister, Phyllis Phelan.
Survivors are: three sisters, C. Lorene Scott of Claremore, Okla., Joan Olson of Raytown, Mo., and Mary Hamm of Grove, and several nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by her family and all the many friends she made wherever she was, she knew no stranger.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Grove, with Rev. Ollie Odle and Dr. Robin Cowin officiating. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in the Rocky Comfort Cemetery in Rocky Comfort, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Society in c/o the funeral home. Clark Funeral Home of Neosho is entrusted with Fawn's journey home.

KATHY KIRTLEY LANDERS
MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. - Memorial services for Kathy Kirtley Landers, 54, Monkey Island, will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Wiggs will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home, Enid, Okla. Her remains were cremated at her request.
She was born March 14, 1947 in Enid to James and May Adele Beckham Kirtley, and died at home Tuesday, June 12, 2001. She was a graduate of Enid High School and attended Phillips University. She worked in reservations at Braniff Airlines in Tulsa and Kansas City. In 1972, she opened a travel agency in Ponca City, later she owned and operated MIKA Advertising Agency until her death. On April 25, 1987 she married Mickey Landers in Enid. The couple lived in Ponca City, Colorado Springs, Colo., and later Monkey Island. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Ponca City, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce.
She is survived by her husband, Mickey, of the home; her mother, May Adele Kirtley, of Enid; three step-daughters, Lori Hughes Markes of Waukomis, Allison Hughes Eve of Tulsa, and Jennifer Landers Swart of Cushing; one sister, Rebekah Kirtley-Ambrosini of Long Island, N.Y.; three brothers, Mike Kirtley of Chester, Robert Kirtley of Folkenberg, Sweden, and Richard Kirtley of Meno, and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church.

ESTHER MARIE LANDON
ANDERSON, Mo. - Esther Marie Landon, 94, of Anderson, Mo., died on Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at the Beverly Health Care Center in Anderson after an illness.
Mrs. Landon was born August 9, 1907 at Valley Falls, Kan., to the late Edwin L. and Eva Lena (Harvey) Heineken. She lived in Anderson for 19 years, coming from Grove. She was a homemaker and a member of the Morrison Church in Tiff City, Mo.
Her first husband, Barton W. Lybarger, and her second husband, Willard Landon, both preceded her in death.
She is survived by a host of friends and church family.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 14, at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove. Reverend Marvin Townsend will officiate.

LORENE LARSEN
GENTRY, Ark. - Lorene Larsen, 79-year-old resident of Gentry, Ark., died Sunday, April 15, 2001 at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born June 15, 1921 in Watts, Okla., she was the daughter of Jack Beavers and Sarah Morris Beavers. Mrs. Larsen had been a lifetime resident of Gentry. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Milton Smith and William Larsen, one daughter, Elizabeth Woolbright, and one son, Billy Smith.
She is survived by her children, Jerry Smith of Sallisaw, Okla., Betty Freeman of Eutaw, Ala., Linda Jones and Brenda Little, both of Watts, Okla., Michael Smith of West Siloam Springs, Okla.; 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Wasson Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Jim Beavers officiating. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery. Services are under he direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

MARGARET "ANN" LAUE
MIAMI, Okla. - Margaret "Ann" Laue, 60, of Miami, died Friday, April 6, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Laue was born June 14, 1940 in Miami, she had lived in Miami all her life. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Laue was a member of the Assembly of God and had been active in the Ottawa County 4-H before her illness.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Laue, of Miami; two sons, Brian Laue of Miami, and Steven Laue of Branson, Mo.; two daughters, Teresa Crow and Pamela Hargon, both of Miami; father and mother, Kenneth and Ruby Sparkman of Miami; two sisters, Sherry Anderson and Vicky Sparkman, both of Tulsa, Okla., and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Rev. Steve Brodrick will officiate. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home Miami. Pallbearers will be David Sparkman, Ron Sparkman, Richard Christensen, Warren Guest, Joie Sharp and Bill Ankeman. Memorial may be made to the Huntington's Disease Clinic - 654 N. Woodchuck, Wichita, KS 67212.

HARRY CLARK LAYMAN
GROVE - Harry Clark Layman, age 73, died Thursday, November 22, 2001 at home in Grove. The son of Jess O. Layman and Elizabeth Stephenson Layman, he was born October 13, 1928 in Grove. Harry was a life long resident of Grove and was employed in oil and gas pipeline construction with Joyce Western, Inc. Harry served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Mary Layman on September 2, 1955.
Surviving: Mary Layman, Grove; son, Jesse Clark Layman, Grove; daughter, Denise Belvin and husband, Mike, of Grove; brother, Ross Layman, Grove; sister, Betty Lou Wilson, Grove; four grandchildren, Dalton Downing and Colton Downing of Grove, and Hunter Layman and Avry Layman, Mannford, Okla.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, November 26, at the Bulter Cemetery in Grove with Rev. John E. Bulter officiating. Services were under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

RICHARD D. "BILL" LAYMAN
VINITA, Okla., - Mr. Richard D. "Bill" Layman, 80-year-old retired Vinita Public School custodian and longtime resident of Vinita, died Monday evening at Craig General Hospital.
Bill was born on April 26, 1921 in Grove, the son of Jess Oliver and Elizabeth (Stephens) Layman. He served in the Air Force during WWII. Following the service, he returned to Grove, where he and Nancy Quallate were united in marriage on October 1, 1949 in Jay. They made their home in Vinita, where they have lived since. He worked for the Vinita Public Schools as maintenance supervisor from 1953 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church, VFW, and Dale Peace Post #90 of the American Legion. He loved to work in his workshop and was famous for his windmills and wagons.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy, of 52 years; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry Dale and Sharon Layman, of Vinita; two brothers, Ross and Harry Layman, both of Jay; a sister, Betty Lou Wilson of Jay; a granddaughter, Diana Layman of Vinita; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, four brothers, and three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Layman will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leland Bartlett and Rev. Jack Frazier officiating. Burial will be on the family plot at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.

JACK E. LEAKE
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Jack E. Leake, lifetime resident of Ottawa County, died Monday, September 10, 2001 at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, Okla., after a lengthy illness. He was 79. He was born February 6, 1922 to Elwood and Fannie Watson Leake, at Miami. He was a meat cutter and, in later years, earned his electrical and refrigeration licenses. He married Rosalie Lunday on August 4, 1940. They were charter members of the Bernice Baptist Church where they were active in the support of youth activities. Jack was preceded in death by his wife (affectionately known as his "girlfriend") in 1997, and a son, Jack K. Leake, in 2001.
Survivors are: two sons and their wives, James E. and Sandi Leake of Miami, and Lewis Wayne and Vicky Leake of Webb City, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Leake, of Columbus, Kan., six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 13, at Ottawa Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Hollandsworth officiating. Pallbearers will be Jack Leake, Jr., Ed Miller, Chad Masterson, Michael Leake, Joe LaCavera, and Larry Ketcher. Burial will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boy's and Girl's Club of Ottawa County. Arrangements provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland.

JAMES "JIM" LEAS
SOUTHWEST CITY, Mo. - James "Jim" Leas, 66, of Southwest City, Mo. died on Monday, May 7, 2001 at 1:40 p.m. at Beverly Health Care Center of Anderson, Mo. after an illness. Jim was born on January 9, 1935 in Southwest City, Mo. to the late Frederick Roy and Sarah Irene (Drennan) Leas. He had lived in Southwest City, Mo. all of his life. He was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Southwest City, serving as Deacon for at least 25 years. He was a truck driver for Nichols Brothers in Southwest City for 10 years and worked as a machinist at Sibley's Engineering in Sulphur Springs, Ark. fro 26 years. He married Darlene Barnes on December 27, 1954 at Southwest City.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Barnes, of the home; son, Brent Leas and wife, Stephanie, of Bella Vista, Ark.; two daughters, Brenda Davis and husband, Larry, of Grove, and Kathy Keith and husband, A.T. "Bud," of Anderson, Mo.; a sister, Twila Stiles of Stigler, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Jim Leas will be held on Thursday, May 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the Full Gospel Church in Southwest City. Reverend Mark Short and Reverend Jeff Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Southwest City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, until 7:00 p.m. at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Full Gospel Church in Southwest City. in care of the funeral home.

ERNEST W. LEE
WEST MAYSVILLE, Okla. - Ernest W. Lee, age 65, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at the Grove General Hospital after a sudden illness. The son of Ernest and Nina (Curry) Lee, he was born on February 8, 1936 in Buffalo, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957. Ernest was a member of the Independent Baptist Church and a missionary in Korea from 1970 to 1983. In 1985 he moved to the farm in West Maysville, Okla. He married Alma Taylor on May 30, 1956 in Ft. Smith, Ark.
Surviving are: his wife, Alma Lee, of the home; six children, Albert Frank Lee of Siloam Springs, Ark., Kimberly McCawley of Fayetteville, Ark., William E. Lee of Oklahoma City, Judith A. Collins of Ft. Smith, Ark., Robert E. Lee, of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Rebekah Lynn Wilson of Ft. Smith, Ark.; one sister, Rita Ertel of Clarence Center, N.Y.; one brother, Donald W. Lee of Orchard Park, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 10, in the Independent Baptist Church of Grove with Reverend Ray Melugin officiating. The interment will be at 5 p.m. in the Mountain View Cemetery near Ft. Smith, Ark. There will be visitation for family and friends at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

GENEVIEVE LEFLER
MUSKOGEE, Okla.- Genevieve Lefler, 86, of Muskogee died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at Pleasant Valley Health Care Center. She was born January 22, 1915 in Grove to William and Deborah (Sager) Sheldon. She grew up in Grove, where she completed her education. Genevieve married James Montell Lefler and the couple moved to Muskogee in 1948, where they had lived since.
Mrs. Lefler was a member of Boston Avenue Baptist Church, Winsome Sunday School Class, and Oak Leaf Homemakers Club.
Mrs. Lefler was preceded in death by her husband, James Montell Lefler, on September 22, 1991. She is survived by two sons, William Rodger Lefler of Tulsa, Okla., and John Ed Lefler of Enid, Okla.; one daughter, Letitia Ann Currie of Shawnee; one sister, Arline Johnson of Muskogee; one brother, James H. Sheldon, of Fairland, Okla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Boston Ave Baptist Church with reverend Tim Perkins officiating. Committal was at Olympus Cemetery in Grove.
Funeral service arrangements were under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.

PATRICIA LEONARD
GROVE - Patricia "Patsy" Leonard, age 59, died Friday, June 14, 2001 in the Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo. The daughter of William and Virginia (Senter) Hunkapiller, she was born on October 8, 1941 in Dyce, Ark. Patsy worked as a waitress at the Stockyards Cafe in Amarillo, Texas until moving to Grove in 1997. She worked at the Grove Jiffy Mart for a short while. She was a member of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by two children, Jerry Alan Leonard of Daytona, Fla., and Sandy Gail Tate of Grove; one brother, William Ray Hunkapillar, of Amarillo, Texas; three sisters, Wilda Hunkapiller of Amarillo, Texas, Wanda Pace of Amarillo, Texas, and Charlotte Hunkapiller of Tulsa, Okla., and one granddaughter, Devanie Lee Ann Tate, of Grove.
The funeral was at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel. The services were under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.
