HAZEL M. MAY
Hazel M. May, 88, died December 30, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nev., following a brief illness.
Hazel was born June 27, 1913 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The wife of the late Frank D. May, she retired from the Los Alamos (NM) National Laboratory in 1969 and lived her last years in Grove and Las Vegas.
She is survived by: her daughter, Nancy Smith of Grove; son, Dawson May of Las Vegas; five grandchildren, Valerie Kruse and Jeffrey Sanchez of Las Vegas, Stacy Sanchez of Los Alamos, N.M., Fredrick May of Wahaiwa, Hawaii, and Donald May of Springfield, Va.; and six great grandchildren, Cory and Cara Kruse, Christian and Kenedie Sanchez, all of Las Vegas, and MacKenzie and Colbie May of Wahaiwa, Hawaii.
A memorial service will be held at the Calvary Chapel, 580 North Mesa Rd in Los Alamos, N.M., on Friday, January 4th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Hazel's name to the American Cancer Society.

ROBERT E. MAYFIELD
GROVE - Robert E. Mayfield, 80, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, after a long bout with Parkinson's Disease. He died at the home on Grand Lake he shared with his wife of 61 years. Graveside Services were held Sat., Oct. 27, which would have been his 81st birthday, under the direction of Elliott - Gentry Funeral Home at Cabool cemetery.
He was born in Impo, Mo., on Oct 27, 1920. Bob spent most of his professional life in the automobile business. He was co-owner of Fellini-Mayfield Ford in Springfield, Mo., and later managed dealearships in Derby, Kan., Willcox, Az., and Perryton, Texas, before returning to the Ozarks where he and his son, Robert L., owned and operated Mayfield Chevrolet in Grove and later in Pryor, Okla. After retiring from the automobile business in Grove in 1980, he contracted for the construction of 12 post offices in the state of Oklahoma.
He grew up around Mountain Grove and Cabool Mo., played in a dance band, and had a try-out with the St. Louis Cardinals. He honed his salesmanship demonstrating Wearever Cookwear door-to- door, and became the #1 salesman in the country. He was foreman at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation in San Diego, Calif., during World War II, building B-24 bombers.
He was married to Ruth Aileen Fredrick on Christmas Eve, 1940 in Mount Vernon, Mo.
Bob is survived by: his wife, Aileen, of Grove; a daughter, Barbara Mayfield, and son, Jim Mayfield, both of Springfield, Mo.; son, Bob, Jr. and wife, Gloria, of Little Rock Ark.; six grandchildren, Susan Bailey, of Blue Springs, Mo., Debra Hamilton, of Springfield, Mo., Jeff Hamilton of Prairie Village, Kan., James (Erin) Mayfield, of Irving, Texas, Lily Mayfield of Gainesville, Fla., and April Mayfield of Little Rock, Ark.; and three great grandchildren.
Bob was the consummate salesman and loved by those who knew him. He said he never met a stranger, and he was always available when called upon. He touched the lives and hearts of many people with his kindness, sharp business aptitude, and keen sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinsons' Disease Association, Inc.

LYMAN RAY MAYNARD
JAY, Okla. - Lyman Ray Maynard of Jay died Thursday, May 10, 2001 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home in Jay. He was 89. Mr. Maynard was born September 20, 1911 to William and Anna Wolfinbarger Maynard of Cayuga, Okla. He has been a lifetime area resident, with the Maynard family settling in the area in the 1800's. He attended Jay Public Schools. He owned and operated Maynard Service Station in Jay for more than 30 years while farming. Mr. Maynard was an avid gardener and was a big St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He married Ellen Teresa May 15, 1937 at Santa Anna, Calif. She preceded him in death March 17, 1994. Also preceding him in death was one son, Kenneth Maynard.
Survivors include three sons, Bob Maynard of Grove, Jack Maynard of Zena, and Jerry Maynard of Jay; four daughters, Bonnie Blank, Becky Stevenson, Nancy Jones all of Jay, and Rosie Pry of Vinita; one sister, Gertha Hyde, of Colcord, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the Duffield Cemetery in Jay. Rev. John E. Butler officiated. Services were under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

JOHN LEROY MCCLURE
GROVE - John Leroy McClure, age 60, died Friday, June 22, 2001 after a sudden illness. The son of John L. McClure, Sr. and Irene (Coleman) McClure, he was born on January 8, 1941 in Dewey, Okla. John moved to Grove five years ago and was a teacher at the Grove Middle School. He resided in Oklahoma City for 26 years and was an administrator with the State Department of Consumer Credit in Oklahoma City. John also served with the National Guard for 26 years. He married Donna Simpson in September of 1961 in Bartlesville, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Grove; two sons, Kyle McClure of Grove, and Blake McClure and his wife, Courtney, of Oklahoma City; one sister, Shirley Brown and her husband, Joe, of Grove, and one grandson, Easton McClure of Oklahoma City.
The funeral will be Tuesday, June 26, at 10:00 a.m. n the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel in Grove with Rev. Butch Miller officiating. Interment is at Olympus Cemetery in Grove under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

DOROTHY RINER MCKIM
GROVE - Dorothy McKim, age 85, formerly of Grove, died on December 14, 2001 in Philadelphia, Pa. Having moved near her daughter, she left Grove in 2000. Dorothy married Merl Riner and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1977. She later married Francis "Mac" McKim and he died on November 24, 1994. Surviving is her daughter, Jo Ann Sampson.
The funeral will be at the graveside in the Ralston Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19. The services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

ETHEL MCKINNEY
COMMERCE, Okla. - Ethel McKinney, 88, of Commerce, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at a Miami nursing home after an illness. Mrs. McKinney was born August 26, 1912 at Stepford, Okla. to Harden and Harriet Stepp. She has lived in Commerce since 1991, moving there from North Miami, Okla. She married Raymond Pat McKinney, he preceded her in death February 2, 1993. Mrs. McKinney was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Walter Lee McKinney, of Pryor, Okla.; two daughters, Phyllis Boehne of Miami, Okla., and Nancy Vandermark of Missouri, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31, in the GAR Cemetery in Miami, Okla. Pastor Don Kirchhoff will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Commerce.

BESSIE LEE (GARRETT) McVAY
MIAMI, Okla. - Bessie Lee (Garrett) McVay of Miami died at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2001 at St. John's Medical Center, Tulsa, after a short illness. She was 74. Mrs. McVay was born February 1, 1927 at Quapaw, Okla., to Bob and Adah (Webber) Garrett. She had spent all of her life in this area. She graduated from the Fairland High School with the class of 1945. She later worked for the B.F. Goodrich Tire Plant in production until retiring in 1963. Mrs. McVay was a member of the Sweet Adelines and sang in the Sincerely Yours Quartet. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church since 1947, where she was involved with the church choir, children's music department and Sunday School, and had served as a cook at the church, and as a church camp sponsor. She married Johny W. McVay on September 7, 1947 at Fairland, and he survives of the home.
Survivors are: a sister and her husband, Betty Lou and Randy Walker, of Miami; an aunt, Pauline Parkhust of Miami; and several nieces and nephews, including Jim and Teresa Harlan, and Chad Walker, all of Miami, Kelly and Leon Bacon, Broken Arrow, Robert Lee and Rita Garrett, Edmond, Marilyn and Steve Brazeal, Littleton, Colo., Linda and Carl Harrison, Allen, Texas, and Diane and Mike Adams, Miami, Pam McVay, Bluejacket, Kim and Grover Smith, Vinita, John and Susan Whitehead, Seneca, Mo., Marc and Kerry Whitehead, Terrell, Texas, and Mac and Carey Whitehead, Branson, Mo.; 23 great nieces and nephews, and two great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 13, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Allen and Rev. Joe Don Olds officiating. Burial was in the Fairland Cemetery under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami.
Pallbearers were Dr. Bill Goodman, Art Meyer, Rusty Garoutte, Scott Trussler, Dan Goodmand and Bob Asbell.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the For the Future Fund at the First Baptist Church, Miami and may be sent in care of the funeral home or to the First Baptist Church.

TERRY DEAN MEISTER
TULSA, Okla. - Terry Dean Meister, 65, died Saturday, September 15, 2001. Mr. Meister was born March 27, 1936 to Russell and Velma (Jones) Meister in Golden City, Mo., and was a former resident of Grove. Mr. Meister worked at Crane Carrier as a welder until he retired.
Survivors are: his wife, Betty, of the home; Tony Meister and wife, and Julia, Linda Hayes and husband, William; grandchildren, Tanner and April Meister, and Melanie and Chris Hayes; a twin sister, Joyce Maynard; and two brothers, Wilford Meister and Gary Mesiter.
Funeral services for Mr. Meister were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Tulsa under the direction of Floral Haven Funeral Home.
Memorials can be sent to American Cancer Society care of Vista Care Hospice.

LEONA MESSIMORE
AFTON, Okla. - Leona Messimore died Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at Integris Grove General Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 75. She was born west of Afton on February 14, 1926 to Leslie and Rosa Hagebush Seaton. She married Dennis Messimore on March 9, 1942, at Vinita. She later returned to receive her GED and went on to become an LPN. She worked at the Afton Memorial Hospital for seven years and then at Autumn Homes in Vinita for five years. She had been a lifetime resident of Afton and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Afton, the Fairland Rebekah Lodge since 1957, and the Grand Lake L.E.A. #12.
Survivors include: her husband, Dennis; two daughters, Darlene and husband, Bob Eastin, Collinsville, Okla., and Jean and husband, Russ Hayes, Oologah, Okla.; 14 foster children; two brothers, James Seaton, Lancaster, Texas, and "Sonny" Ray Seaton, Ft. Smith, Ark.; two sisters, Idalice Sturgeon, Lavaca, Ark., and Rosa Sasser, Spavinaw, Okla; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Adcock Funeral Home Chapel in Afton at 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Lyle Chandler officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

ELIZABETH ANN MILLER
GROVE - Elizabeth Ann Miller, 50, of Grove, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001 at her home in Grove following a long illness. Mrs. Miller was born April 16, 1951 in Phoenixville, Pa. and moved to t he Southwest Missouri area from Lockwood, Mo. She was a member of the Calvary Holiness Church in Neosho where she sang in the choir. She married Menno E. Miller on November 21, 1971 at Altamont, Tenn. and he survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, Menno Miller, Jr., Southwest City, Mo., and Simon Miller, Joshua Miller and Caleb Miller, all of the home; a daughter, Lydia Ann Miller, of the home; her parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Caylor, Glasgow, Ky.; one brother, Andrew Caylor, Jr., Glasgow, Ky.; two sisters, Kathy Caylor and Norma Jean Caylor, Glasgow, Ky., and three grandchildren, Timothy James, Thomas James and Cheryl Leann.
She is preceded in death by an infant son.
Services will be Tuesday, May 1, at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Holiness Church. Brother Bob Goodwin and Brother Phillip Senn will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibson Cemetery, Neosho. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday and the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

MELVIN GLENN 'MUTT' MILLER
GROVE - Melvin Glenn "Mutt" Miller, 84, formerly of Joplin, passed away at 11:32 a.m. Sunday, November 18, 2001 at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove. Born May 24, 1917 in Joplin, he was the son of the late William Miller and Edna Merritt Miller. He lived in the Joplin area all of his lifetime. He was a bookkeeper for the former Jesse's Truck Stop for 20 years, retiring in 1962. He was 50-year member of the Joplin Lodge No. 335 A F & A M, a member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Springfield, the Joplin Elk's Lodge #501, and a lifetime member of Earl J. Bruton V.F.W. Lodge 534, where he received his 50-year pin. He was active in MSSC athletic programs. The Missouri Southern Baseball program honors him each year with the "Mutt Burger." During WWII he served his county as a member of the U.S. Army where he received the Purple Heart. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his special loving friend of 30 years, Lemona Harrington, Grove, and good friends Glen and Virgie Spears, Anderson, Mo.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Saginaw Cemetery. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate.

SADIE K. MILLER
JAY, Okla. - Sadie Katherine Miller, age 96, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home in Jay, Okla.. The daughter of Alden Thomas Chapman and Icy Dora (Thayer) Chapman, she was born on April 3, 1905 in Ellsworth, Kan. Sadie married Arthur "Bill" Miller on December 20, 1941 and he preceded her in death on October 6, 1982. She graduated from high school in 1925 and taught for several years. In 1955 they purchased Miller's Bait Shop and Cabins in Langley, Okla., and operated that until 1968. Afterwards they moved to the farm near the Topsy community. Also preceding in death were her parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
Surviving are nieces, nephews and specials friends, the Gene Vanover family.
The funeral will be in the Mose Ridge Cemetery near Topsy at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 18. The services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

BILLY L. MITCHELL
COLCORD, Okla. - Billy L. Mitchell, 59-year-old resident of rural Colcord, Okla., died Friday August 10, 2001 at Colcord as a result of injuries received in a brush-hogging accident. Born August 10, 1942 in Colcord, he was the son of Lloyd Stanley Mitchell and Doris Lucille Mills Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was the owner-operator of Mitchell Electric, specializing in electric motor repair. He was a graduate of Colcord High School. Mr. Mitchell was active in the Colcord Civil Defense and a member of the First Baptist Church in Colcord. He married Janice Spencer on June 1, 1963.
Survivors are: his wife, Jan, of the home; two daughters, Amy Thomson and her husband, Chris, of Colcord, and Tera Gebhart and her husband, Rick, of Colcord; his mother, Doris Mitchell, of Colcord; one sister, Barbara Noe, of Bray, Okla.; three nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 13 at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs, Ark., with Mr. Larry Ellis officiating. Burial followed in Row Cemetery, Colcord, with services under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

EXIE JANE MONROE
JAY, Okla. - Exie Jane Monroe, 87, met her Lord June 26, 2001 in Jay. Exie was born September 30, 1913 to Daniel Tauuneacie and Sally Redman in Grove. Exie graduated from Grove High School and attended college in Tahlequah, Okla., where she received a teaching degree. She married Grove Monroe and later returned to school at the University of Ark., where she accomplished a masters degree. Exie taught school for 30 years. During the years 1971-1982 she worked for the Cherokee Nation. After leaving Cherokee Nation, she became on Ombudsman for Grand Gateway until 1994. She retired at the age of 81.
Exie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Grover, in 1961, five sisters and one brother.
She is survived by one daughter, Sally and husband, DeWayne Choate, of Joplin, Mo.; two nieces, Loy Dedmond of Grove, and Almeta Tonips of Ft. Worth Texas.; two nephews, Charles Gray of Newkirk, Okla., and Daniel Gray of Bartlesville, Okla.
Visitation will be held at the Jay Community Center June 29 at 10 a.m. followed by a lunch at the United Methodist Church. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at the Ballard Cemetery in Bernice, Okla. Services will be under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay.
