KENNETH LEE OWEN
GROVE - Kenneth L. Owen, age 58, of Vinita, formerly of Grove, died Thursday, May 3, 2001 in Vinita. The son of Leland "Sunshine" and Anna Lee (Turner) Owen, he was born on May 13, 1942 in Carr Community near Grove. He attended Grove schools.
He is survived by his mother, Anna Lee Owen, of Grove, and many cousins.
The funeral was Sunday, May 6, in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel with Reverend John F. Butler officiating. The interment was in the Olympus Cemetery. The services were under the directions on the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

DORIS PALMER
GROVE - Doris Palmer, age 86, died Sunday November 25, 2001 at the Grove Nursing Center. She was born on January 27, 1915. Doris was the secretary for the Superintendent of Schools in Wichita, Kan. She retired in the early 1980's, moving to Grove afterward. Her husband, Mack A. Palmer, died on November 16, 1986.
Surviving are many friends.
The funeral was at noon on Thursday, November 29, at the Graveside in the White Chapel Cemetery in Wichita, Kan., with Pastor Dave Henion of the Harvest Community Church officiating. The funeral was under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

SAMMY LEE PALMER
AFTON, Okla. - Sammy Lee Palmer, 56, of Afton, died Thursday at his home after a sudden illness. Mr. Palmer was born January 15, 1945 in Salina, Okla., to Jim and Marie (Adkins) Marshall, he has lived in the Afton area all his life. He was a retired machinist for Tulsa Winch, and Irby Construction, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are: two daughters, Diane Free, Afton, and Debbie Robinson, Owasso; mother, Marie Dicky, of Afton; two brothers, George Marshall, Miami, and Mike Marshall, Tulsa; sister, Mary Brumback, Afton; four grand daughters, Samantha Free, Shelley Free, Shawn Free, and Dianne Robinson; uncle, Willie Adkins, Hutchinson, Kan., and aunt, Mable Adkins, Afton.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, In the Guildford-Thomas Funeral Home, Afton. Rev. Marty McCord officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Afton, under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Afton.

MICHAEL DEWAYNE PANTHER
ROSE, Okla. - Funeral services for Michael Dewayne Panther, 24, of Rose, Okla., were held Saturday, June 9, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kenwood Middle School Gym. Burial followed in the Euwasha Cemetery in Kenwood, Okla. Rev. Richard Butter officiated. Services were under the direction of Key Funeral Home of Locust Grove, Okla.
Michael was born February 23, 1977 in Claremore, Okla. and died June 6, in Rose. He was the son of Willis and Annie (Wolf) Sapp. He grew up in the Kansas and Jay, Okla. area. He met his wife, Sheila, in 1997 and they were married in 1998 in Miami, Okla. Michael was a very active person and enjoyed many things in life, like playing football and bull riding with his buddies. He was employed with Snell Metal Roofing Co. Michael was an outdoorsman; he was a gigger of fish and deer hunter, and horseshoe tournaments were one of his favorite things to do. Michael was a very loving and kind person and enjoyed his family around him, especially the little nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Euwasha Baptist Church in Kenwood, Okla. where a wake service was held for him Friday, June 8. He will be greatly missed by all that shared in his life.
He is survived his parents, Willis and Annie Sapp; wife, Sheila, of the home; three daughters, Candice Panther, Amber Hunter, and Jessica Hunter of the home; one brother, Gilbert Downing and wife, Shelly, of Skiatook, Okla.; three sisters, Serena White and husband, David, of Ark., Shelly Tanner and husband, Jackson, of Kenwood, Okla., and Jacklyn Sapp of Kenwood, Okla.; three nieces and six nephews and many other relatives. His grandparents, Jim and Virginia Wolf, preceded him in death.

JOHN NELSON PARKER, JR.
VINITA, Okla. - John Nelson Parker, Jr., 84, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2001 at Rosewood Terrace. He was born September 25, 1917 to John Nelson Parker, Sr. and Grace Marie (Morrison) Parker in Welch, and was of Cherokee Indian descent. He grew up on a farm west of Welch and was a graduate of Welch High School. Johnnie was employed by Welch Oil Company until joining the U.S. Army on January 8, 1942 when he was 24. He served in the 757 Tank battalion during World War II, spending 18 months in Africa and Italy. He was wounded by shrapnel on the front line in Cassino, Italy, on March 28, 1944 and received the purple heart. He was discharged on October 15, 1945. He married Doretha Highsmith on December 24, 1942 at the Methodist parsonage in Miami. They resided in Welch until moving to Vinita in September, 1948, where Johnnie was employed by Ives Lumber Company for two years. On September 1, 1949, he and Ed Shanahan formed a partnership and built the Shanahan-Parker Lumber Company in Vinita which he operated until he retired on June 1, 1986. He and Ed built many homes in Vinita as well as developing several housing additions. He joined the First United Methodist Church in 1948 and served on the Board of Trustees and Administrative board. He was a member of the Welch and Vinita Masonic Lodges, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Akdar Shrine of Tulsa, and the Craig County "Scamps" Shrine Club. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He loved to dance with his wife, hunt with his son, and fish with his friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Doretha, on September 1, 1998.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Sallye and John Burckhalter, Vinita, and Merrye Ann and Bill Maddux, Willis, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Deborah Parker, Edmond; two grandchildren, Matt Burkhalter and Summer Burckhalter Falling and husband, Robert, Vinita; two step-grandsons, Beegee and Geoff Maddux, Texas; and two step-great grandsons; a brother, Samuel B. Parker and wife, Chris, Signal Mountain, Tenn.; and a sister, Marie Pender and husband Joe, Florissant, Mo.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Herndon officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery. Military graveside funeral rites were performed by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team. Memorials can be made to the Craig County Outreach Cancer Association in care of Carole Woodard, First National Bank, P.O. Box 407, Vinita, OK 74301. Services were under the direction of the Burckhalter funeral Home of Vinita.

HOMER LEE PARMLEY
GALVESTON, Tex. - Homer Lee Parmley died December 18, 2001 in Galveston, Texas. He was 70 years old. He was born and raised in Tulsa, Okla. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, was the owner of several businesses over the years, and was a well-known breeder of dogs. He is survived by two daughters, Terry Kerr and husband, Clint, of Rockport, Tex., and Karen Bryant and husband, Waymon, of Carthage Missouri; a brother, Bill and wife, Dorothy; two sisters, Wanda Tiller and June Kelsey and husband, Don; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be private.

JACK D. PARSONS SR.
GROVE - Jack D. Parsons Sr., 80, of Grove, former resident of Cherokee, Kan., died Thursday, July 27, 2001 at the Grove General Hospital following a sudden illness. He was born April 8, 1921 at West Mineral, Kan., to Charles and Jennie Mae Bates Parsons. He attended school in West Mineral. Mr. Parsons had been a resident of the West Mineral-Cherokee area most of his life until moving to Grove in May 1996.
He married Margaret Jean Malcolm on December 24, 1943 in Girard, Kan. She survives of the home.
Mr. Parsons was employed with Pittsburg USD 250 for 19 years, and Southeast USD 247 Schools in the maintenance department, retiring in 1983. Mr. Parsons also farmed in the Cherokee area for many years. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers.
Survivors are: two sons and daughter-in-laws, Jack D. Jr. and Judy Parsons of Grove, and Steven and DeeAnn Parsons of Chanute, Kan.; three sisters, Bessie Sizemore of Cherokee, Kan., Thelma Barnes of Pittsburg, Kan., and Betty Hays of Prairie Village, Kan.; a grandson and his wife, Justin and Lisa; a granddaughter, Jennifer, and a great granddaughter, Jodee.
A brother, Frankie Parsons, and two sisters, Berniece Smith and Mamie Justice, preceded Mr. Parsons in death.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Brenner Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Delbert Chance officiating. Burial was in the Cherokee Cemetery, Cherokee, Kan. Arrangements were under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.

RANDY WAYNE PATRICK
FRAZIER PARK, Calif. - Randy Wayne Patrick, artist and musician, passed away August 8, 2001 at his residence in Frazier Park. Randy was born on March 27, 1963 at Afton Memorial Hospital and was a former resident of Delaware County.
Survivors are: his wife, Patti; two sons, Ian and Dominick; his parents, Dale and Linda Patrick of Grove; his sister's family, Ray and Cindy Pruitt, Lena Pruitt and Zachary Barnes of Grove; his brother's family, Bryan and Judy Patrick of Woodland Park, Colo., and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who reside in this area.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, August 18, at Dodge Baptist Church.

JOE THOMAS PATTERSON
JAY, Okla. - Joe Thomas Patterson, age 82, died at his home near Jay on Friday, June 1, 2001. The son of Jay Joseph and Mae Isabella (Draper) Patterson, he was born on July 13, 1918 in Cass County, Texas. Mr. Patterson was an avid farmer, fisherman, and hunter. He retired after 35 years as an automobile paint and body man, 28 of which was for Bill White Chevrolet in Tulsa, Okla. He was a veteran of WWII and a 32-degree Mason. Joe married Ola Mitchell on March 5, 1954. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Floyd Ray Patterson, Travis Boyd Patterson, and Horace Willard Patterson.
He is survived by his wife, Ola Patterson, of Jay; a son, Dr. Larry Wallace and wife, Mary Ellen, of Pawhuska, Okla.; a daughter, Jo Helen Usrey of Jay; two sisters, Pauline Daughtery of Logansport, La., and Elouise Tolleson of Lake Butler, Fla.; four grandchildren, Ed Wallace and wife, Lori, Ronda Kates and husband, Randy, Rodney Wallace, and Tony Usrey and wife, Teresa; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler and Hunter Wallce, Kolby and Korey Kates, Holland Wallace, Jacob Usrey, Misty Bowzer and Lora Bowzer.
The funeral will be graveside at the Spavinaw Cemetery on Tuesday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Larry Wallace officiating. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

HAZEL RUTH PAUGH
GROVE - Hazel Ruth Paugh, age 70, of Carthage, Mo., moved to Grove eight years ago. She died May 15, 2001 at the Grove General Hospital. She was born December 11, 1930 in Willard, Mo. Lloyd Mack Johnson and Wilma Mae Corbin Johnson. She worked for 20 years for Schriber Foods of Carthage, Mo. She married Joseph "Joe" Paugh Dec. 11, 1948 in Carthage. He preceded her in death May 22, 1999.
She is survived by four sons, Clarence Eugene Paugh, Grove, Lloyd Mack Paugh, Polivar, Mo., John Douglas Paugh, Grove, and Thomas Robert Paugh, Carthage; a brother, Joe Johnson, Springfield, Mo.; sister, Beverly Preston, Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will held at 10:00 a.m. a.m. Saturday, May 19, in the G/S Fasken Cemetery. Family visitation will be 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Ulmer Funeral Home.

COLENE PAYTON
JAY, Okla. - Colene Payton, age 70, died Sunday, June 3, 2001 in the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. The daughter of Cecil Wesley and Ella Mae (Chrismon) Payton, she was born on July 7, 1930 in Jay. Colene grew up in the Jay area and returned to the area in the last 20 years. She recently accepted the Lord.
She is survived by four children, Wynona Stelley of Tulsa, Okla., Ray Large of Claremore, Okla., Lois Ann Farmer of Tulsa, Okla., and Rick Large of Owasso, Okla.; four brothers, Edward Payton of Miami, Okla., Howard Payton of Jay, Bob Payton of Claremore, Okla., and Don Payton of North Platte, Neb.; a sister, Freda Bushyhead of Grove; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, in the Delaware Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Bishop officiating. The interment will be in the Duffield Cemetery. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

JERRY LEROY PEAK
GROVE-Jerry Peak, age 59, died Friday, November 30, 2001 in the Grove General Hospital. The son of Harold and Helen (Brunk) Peak, he was born on March 25, 1942 in Los Angeles, Calif. Jerry worked as a foreman for a maintenance crew for the City of Wichita, Kan. He moved to Grove in 1996. Mr. Peak served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Wichita Moose Lodge. He married Mary Jo Peak in 1972. Jerry was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Sue Peak
Surviving are: Mary Jo Peak, his wife; Harold Peak and Helen Brunk, his parents; James Peak, son; Jack Mills, stepson; Dana Dow, stepdaughter; Janet Lawrence, sister; three granddaughters and one grandson.
The funeral was at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 3, in the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home. The interment was in the Olympus Cemetery. The services were under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

MARY JO PEAK
GROVE - Mary Jo Peak of Grove died Saturday December 8, 2001 at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. She was 65.
Mary Jo was born July 19, 1936 in Kansas City, Kan. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cornerstone Church in Grove. She has lived in Grove since 1996 moving from Wichita, Kan. Mary Jo married Jerry Peak in 1972 at Wichita. He preceded her in death November 30, 2001.
Survivors include: three children, James Peak of Grove, and Dana Dow and Jack Mills, both of Wichita; one sister, Bernita Tumblin of Wichita; three grandchildren, Samantha Berg, Jessica Dow, and Ryan Dow; and two great grandchildren, Brandy Berg, and Alliha Berg.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, at the Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Interment will be in the Olympus Cemetery in Grove.

WILMA L. PENDLEY
MIAMI, Okla. - Wilma L. Pendley died at 1:35 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2001 at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center after an illness. She was 79. Pendley was born February 26, 1922 at Sulphur Springs, Ark, to Tony and Viola Alice (Craig) Biven. She was a retired beautician and a member of the Northwest Baptist Church. She married the Rev. J.R. Pendley on January 11, 1942 at Southwest City, Mo., he preceded her in death on April 21, 1998.
Survivors include: a son and his wife, Jim and Judy Pendley, Yorktown, Va.; two sisters, Jewel Birkes, Miami, and Carrie Anderson, Newburg, Ore.; a brother, Lester Biven, Sulphur Springs, Ark., and a grandson, Kevin Pendley, Chicago, Ill.
Funeral services will he held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 25, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home chapel with minister J. Fulton Amonette officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Afton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 24.
