Stallings

Leona Nadine Stallings, 76, died Saturday at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Hollis. Graveside Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis with the Rev. David Furrow officiating. Arrangements will be with Patterson Greer Funeral Home.

She was born Jan. 12, 1923, to Ervin and Grace (Welch) Buell in Fort Smith, Ark . She was a homemaker.

Survivors include five daughters, Betty McNiel of Dewey, Ariz.; Virginia Vann of Hollis, Carolyn Winger of Hollis, Nan Skaats of Hollis and Patricia Brooks of Homestead, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

Starr

Marjorie Ann Starr, 76, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died Jan. 12, 2000. She was born in Elroy, Wis. to Alvert and Vilma Sterba. She grew up on a dairy farm, was valedictorian of her high school class, attended Groves-Barnhart Business College in Madison, graduating with honors. She pursued a career with the Maritime Commission in Washington, D.C. from 1941-1945.

After raising a family in Altus, she became an administrative assistant for Altus High School from 1964-1970. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus for many years. After moving to Oklahoma City, she worked for TG&Y corporate headquarters as an administrative assistant in the legal department from 1971-1987.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening, watching the stock market, reading, and her family and friends. She was an avid collector and expert in Americana and nostalgic antique items such as cooking jars, china figurines, pottery, china and minature children's toy. She was active in charitable work for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars, League for the Blind and others. She followed educational issues closely, and was an advocate and supporter of public schools in Oklahoma.

Survivors include her husband Bill Starr; daughters, Barbara Brown and husband Jim of Oklahoma City, Kathy Pickering and husband Jim of Social Circle, Ga. and stepson Bill Starr and wife Ruth of Altus. She is also survived by her brother Maurice Sterba and wife Fern of Elroy, Wis. She was the proud grandmother of Curt Brown, Jason Pickering, Eli Pickering and wife Summer, Tara Starr, Kelly Peavler and husband John and great-grandchildren Kory, Kamen and Kelsey Peavler. Numerous nieces, nephew and friends will miss her greatly.

Memorial services will be held at Chapel Funeral Home and Memorial Garden, 8701 N. W. Expressway, Oklahoma City, Monday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. Donations may be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church Building fund, Family Life Center, P.O. Box 501, Altus, Oklahoma 73521.

Sydlo

Funeral Mass for former Altus and Lawton resident, TSgt. (retired) Edward L. Sydlo will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert T. Wood officiating. He died Saturday in Clinton at the age of 69. Burial with full military honors will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

He was born June 14, 1930 in Hazleton, Penn. He married Sophie G. Sojka on April 18, 1959 in Chambley, France. She preceded him in death Oct. 3, 1992. A 22-year veteran of the Air Force he served during the Korean Conflict. After retirement he was employed in the civil service. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia nd Harald Kohlhoff, Greeley, Colo., Evelyne and Robin King, Altus and Cathy and Tom Wilkes, Dover, Del.; his mother, Blanche Sydlo and a brother, Richard Sydlo both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Helene Reubrecht, Elizabeth Rotty, France; several nieces and nephews and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1305 W. Gore, Suite A. Lawton, Ok. 73501 or to the American Diabetes Association, 1211 N. Shartle Ave. #603, Oklahoma City, Ok. 73103-2425.

Terry

Louise Terry, 78, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at the Elkview Hospital in Hobart following an extended illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Hobart. The Rev. Tommy Clark will officiate. Burial will be at the Hobart Rose Cemetery under the direction of Hackney-Gish Funeral of Hobart.

She was born July 10, 1921, in Hobart to Ethel Ballard Terry and James S. Terry. She graduated from Hobart High School in 1939 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art and Social Studies. She was a fashion artist and advertisement department head for several major department stores in Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, and Houston. She also did free lance work for national fashion magazines. She retired from Joske's Department Store, Houston in 1987 and made her home in Hobart since that time. She was active in civic and church work and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hobart, Victory Sunday School Class, Fortnightly Research Club, Pen Women of Southwest Oklahoma, Art Guild and a Kiowa County Museum Volunteer.

Tinney

Well known Altus area farmer and businessman Clayton Tinney died Saturday.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Altus. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1909 to Jim and Julia (Odiorne) Tinney in Frazier where he attended Frazier school. He later attended Altus schools. He married LaVelle Garren March 12, 1928 and were married for 60 years until her death in November, 1997. They had two children Robbie Clay and Michael Don. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was active in his business pursuits up until the time of his death. In the early part of his life he worked as a butcher and as a sheep and cattle buyer and was the co-owner of the Modern Implement and Fertilizer Company. He was involved in a partnership in a cotton gin in Headrick, co-developed the Star addition in the south part of Altus and served as a Director of the National Livestock Commission.

He served on the board of directors of the Lugert/Altus Irrigation District and was a member and incorporator of TB&H oil company and a farmer and rancher as well as a longtime supporter of the youth at the Jackson County Livestock Show.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife LaVelle, a son Mike Tinney and a granddaughter-in-law, Johnna Beth Kerr.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Robbie Clay and Bob Kerr of Altus; grandchildren, Garren Tinney of Oklahoma City , Robert Kerr of Warren, Robin and Brad Wenk, Rodger and Tamara Kerr all of Altus; four great-grandchildren.

Virnau

Donald R. Virnau, 69, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in a Waco, Texas hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Durham officiating.

Virnau, the third of five sons, was born in Iowa, La. on Jan. 1, 1931, to Walter A. Sr. and Juanita DuBose Virnau. After a move to Winnie-Stowell, Texas, the family moved to Sealy, Texas, in 1944.

He graduated from Sealy High School in 1949, and from Southwest Texas State University in 1952.

Following graduation, Virnau enlisted in the Air Force during the time of the Korean War. During his time of service, he met and married Freda Kendrix on July 31, 1965. He served his country for 14 years, and left the Air Force as a captain.

Afterwards, he returned to Sealy and the family farm where they raised a family of two sons. He retired from farming in 1985.

In 1990, he moved to Waco, Texas. There he was a faithful member of Columbia Avenue Baptist Church and his Sunday school class.

Virnau was preceded in death by his parents Walter A. Sr. and Juanita Virnau and brothers Richard and Harry Virnau.

Survivors include: his wife Freda Kendrix Virnau of 34 years, Waco, Texas; sons, Chuck Virnau and wife Leigh Ann, Waco and Larry Virnau, Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren, Hannah Christine Virnau and Rebecca Ann Virnau; brothers, Walter A. Virnau, Jr. and wife Kathryn, Sealy, Texas and Bill Virnau and wife Verlin of Katy, Texas; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Walker

Borden Clay Walker, 89, died Sunday, jan. 16, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the Altus City Cemetery with Sonny Tims officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Walker was born March 5, 1910, in Altus, to Anna Walker. He was a lifelong resident of Altus. He worked as a general laborer in Altus for many years before he retired. He was the husband of the late Grace Walker.

He is survived by a step-daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Doug Smith of Michigan; step-grandchildren, Mark DeForrest of Altus, Elisabeth Clapp, Lansing, Mich., Mike Smith of Detroit, Mich., Sarah Smith of Three Rivers, Mich. and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Walker and one step-son, John DeForrest.

Waller

Sarah Lavesta Waller, 73, long time resident of Eldorado, died Dec. 30 at the Grace Living Center in Altus. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Eldorado. Rev. Dean Goodfellow and Rev. Billy Roy Hall will officiate. Interment will follow in the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

She was born April 8, 1926 in Quanah, Texas to William and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Robinson) Helms. She married Abner Turner Waller, was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. She was a long time member of the Eldorado Baptist Church where she was very active.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her children L.C. and Jolene Waller of Eldorado, Ira Lee and Earlene Waller of Amarillo, Arlene Adams of Eldorado and Geneva and Tommy Proffitt of Lakeview, Texas; two sisters Effie Corley of Slatin, Texas and Para Livingston of Chickasha; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.

Weddle

Ordrain E. Weddle, 79, Eldorado, died Monday. Services are pending at Kincannon Funeral Home.

Ybarra

HOLLIS - Bennie Jo'nell Ybarra, infant daughter of Benny Joe and Lucinda DeLapaz Ybarra, was stillborn, Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999.

A prayer service was held at the Patterson-Greer Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service was held this morning at the Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Patterson Greer Funeral Home. The Rev. Cantu officiated.

Surviors include her parents, Benny Joe and Lucinda DeLapaz Ybarra of Hollis; paternal grandmother, Benita Baeza and maternal grandmother, Francis DeLapaz.

Yost

James Ray Yost, 57, Headrick, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Headrick with the Rev. Dan Lambert officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

He was born March 20, 1942, in Monon, Ind., to Ora and Fern (Kelley) Yost. He married Bonnie Stiffler on Jan. 31, 1977, in Vernon, Texas.

He had been a resident of the Headrick Community for the past 15 years. He served with the Air Force for more than 20 years, retiring in 1981, at the rank of Tech Sergeant.

He owned and operated Jimbo's Cafe in Altus from 1981 to 1983, when he sold his business. He later worked for Fox Building Supply from 1984 until 1994. He was working for C.C. Distributors on base at the time of his death. He was actively involved with the National Rifleman's Association and the Wildlife Federation. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Headrick.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of the home in Headrick; three daughters, Jill Yost of Headrick, Cathy Yost and Tammy Yost, both of Tucson, Ariz. and two grandsons, Tony and Joey Yost.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Buckner

Sherman Buckner, 86, Seminole, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Seminole Medical Center. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Kelvin Moseley and David Karges officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City at 2:30 p.m. under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Buckner moved to Seminole 15 years ago from Mangum.

He was born April 5, 1913, in Reed to Robert Leonard and Lottie Davis Buckner. He married Loette Higgins on July 15, 1938, in Altus.

Buckner had been a pharmacist for 15 years. Following his pharmacy career, he worked as an insurance agent, retiring as state manager for Modern Woodmen of America Life Insurance.

He attended the First Baptist Church.

Buckner was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Herman Buckner and a sister, Madora Hilley.

Survivors include: his wife, Loette Buckner of the home in Seminole; two sons, Robert Bruce Buckner of Oklahoma City and Sherman Wayne Buckner; a daughter, Brynda McCoy of Seminole; a sister, Constance Whister of Stillwater; five grandchildren, Brina Patrice Tignor, Damon Lee McCoy, Daphne McCoy-Schroder, Sophia Loette Molloy and Isabella Buckner and five great grandchildren, Alabama Loette Molloy, Keagan McCoy, Georgia Molloy, Miranda Tignor and Kelsey McCoy.
