WAVEL OUIDA PERDUE
JAY, Okla. - Wavel Ouida Perdue, 88, met her Lord June 13, 2001 at the Gravette Medical Center. Wavel was born August 8, 1912 to Offneal Marsh Wilson and Mary Louise Johnson in McDonald County near Neosho, Mo. She attended many different schools, and last attended school at Blue Mound, Okla. The family later moved to Kansas where her father owned a cafe and filling station. Wavel helped run the cafe until December 18, 1931 when she married Jeff Perdue. They moved to Arkansas and there resided until Jeff's death in 1961. Wavel moved to Jay and worked at the Guinn Nursing Home in housekeeping for five years, and soon after retired. Wavel was an excellent cook and seamstress. She is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters, husband, Jeff, and two children, Danny and Jolly Perdue.
She is survived by her son, J.D. Perdue, and wife, Sandra, of Jay; daughter, Wavel Darlene Harp and husband, Bill, of Siloam Springs, Ark., daughter, Donna Jean Reece of Tahlequah, Okla; 24 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends and relatives on Friday, June 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay.
Services will be held Saturday, June 16, at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Darmon Swift. Interment at the Jumper Cemetery in Jay. Services under direction of Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay.

LILLIAN PETERS
ROSE, Okla. - Funeral services for Lillian Peters, 86, of Rose, Okla., were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Elm Prairie Baptist Church at Leach, Okla. Rev. Albert Robbins officiated and burial followed in the Elm Prairie Cemetery in Leach, Okla.
Mrs. Peters was born on March 10, 1914 in Salina, Okla. She died on May 1, 2001 in Tulsa. Okla.
The daughter of Lewis and Nancy (Ross) Mouse, she grew up and attended school in Salina and Wyandotte, Okla. She then married Tom Peters in 1948 in Pryor. She was a homemaker, loved to crochet, quilt, and do tatting, and also was a skilled basket maker. She especially enjoyed gospel music. She was a member of the Elm Prairie Baptist Church.
She is survived by Thomas Peters of Leach, Okla.; three daughters, Martha Peters of Leach, Mary Peters of Tahleqauh, Okla., Irene Roth and husband, Robert, of Leach; two nephews, Edward Mouss of Henryetta, Okla., and Willie Mouse of Salina, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, in July of 1987, one infant son, four brothers and her parents.

JOLENE PICKETT
GROVE - Jolene Pickett, age 63, died at her home on Monkey Island on August 9, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Church on Hwy. 59 north of Grove with Pastor Jerry Baser officiating. Burial will be in Ralston Cemetery following the service. A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, 711 S. Main in Grove.
Mrs. Pickett was born February 4, 1938 in Freer, Texas to Clyde and Willie Ashford. She married Mike Pickett on November 24, 1957 in Afton. Mrs. Pickett moved to Grove in 1991 from Tulsa where she and Mike lived for 35 years. She has owned Crystal's Antiques on Hwy. 59 in Grove for the past nine years.
Survivors are: her husband, Mike, of the home; two daughters, Monica Russell and Pamela Childers, Grove; one son, Tony, of Tulsa, and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.

ROY THOMAS POLSON
JAY, Okla. - Roy Polson, age 65, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 in the Betty Ann Nursing Center in Grove. The son of Henry and Berneice Briscoe Polson, he was born on August 10, 1935 in Wilburton, Okla.
Surviving are: three brothers, Richard Polson, of Jay, Clark Polson of Marble City, Tex., and Lynn Polson of Corsicana, Tex.; a sister, June Boyd of McAlester, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 10 a.m. at the Polson Cemetery near Southwest City, Mo., with his nephew, Garry Boyd, officiating. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

JOHN POPEJOY
GROVE - John Popejoy, 91, died Friday, April 20, 2001 at Grove General Hospital in Grove. Services were held Monday, April 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Assembly of God, Grove, with Pastor David Talle' officiating. Burial was at Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, Okla. at 2:00 p.m.
John Popejoy was born in Springfield, Mo. on December 25, 1909 to George and Minnie Miller Popejoy. He married Edna Franklin on November 17, 1933 in Henryetta, Okla. Mr. Popejoy worked for Osage Oil Company in Tulsa. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Grove.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, Grove; two daughters, Lillian Heflin, Grove, and Joan Rives, Little Rock, Ark., and one brother, Claude Popejoy, Rockaway Beach, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lon Popejoy, and one sister, Irene Payton. Services were entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, 918-786-5172.

WILLIS WILLARD POTTER
DISNEY, Okla. - Willis Willard Potter, 88, of Disney passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 in Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa. Mr. Potter, the son of George Elbert and Nettie Jewell (Stone) Potter, was born in Flat Creek, Mo., on May 23, 1913.
Funeral services for Mr. Potter were conducted Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the South Grand Lake Christian Church, north of Langley, with Dr. Bob Weiziel officiating. Interment followed in the Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery with Dan Potter, Chris Potter, Steven Potter, David Gibson, Darron Gibson and Frank Pflueger serving as casket bearers. Honary casket bearers were Bernard Pope and Bob Hamill. Funeral service service arrangements were under the care of Garner's Jim Green Funeral Home, Pryor.
Willis was born and raised in the Flat Creek community of Stone County, Mo., where he attended public school. At the age of 25 he moved with his family to Disney during the construction of the Pensacola Dam. He married Flossie Viola Morris of Salina on February 16, 1939 at Muskogee. They shared over 53 years of marriage until her death in May 1992. A carpenter by trade, Willis drove to various work projects in Tulsa. His union carpentry skills were put to use in high rise buildings as well as at the Utica Square Shopping Center. Willis was a charter member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Langley and a member of the Carpenter's Union Local 943, Tulsa. He had served as a church Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and member of various building and pulpit committees. He became a charter member of the South Grand Lake Christian Church and was active in assisting in the church growth. Willis was an avid fisherman and rock hound and enjoyed making jewelry from his rock finds. He also enjoyed traveling the western states.
Mr. Potter is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Fan Potter, Pryor; grandchildren, Daniel Raymond and Honda Potter, Longview, Texas, and Steven Byron and Debra Potter, Moore, Okla.; great-grandchildren, James Christopher and Renee, Ashley Renea, Steven Byron II, Joseph David and Cassandra Lynn; a great-great-granddaughter, Rylie, and other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Flossie, his parents, and his sister, Berth Edith Dinkins.

PERRY PRATER
GROVE - Perry Prater, 75, died Wednesday, October 3, 2001. Mr. Prater was born on October 18, 1926 in Lackey, Ky., to John Lee and Cora (Hale) Prater. He married Juanita Clark on January 6, 1945 in Battle Creek, Mich. She preceded him in death in 1995. He served in the United States Marines as a PFC-Sharpshooter. He moved to New Orleans, La., from Bedford, Mich., in 1958. Mr. Prater owned Perry's Welding Service and Target Sporting Goods in New Orleans for over 25 years. He lived in New Orleans for 27 years before retiring to Grove in 1985. He was a member of Community of Christ Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Marsha and husband, Robert, Breland; grandson, Perry C. Prater: great grandson, Mathew Prater; and great granddaughter, Kendra Robertson, all of the home; four sons, Bruce C. Prater, Littleton, Co., Jonathan M. Prater, Fairbanks, Alaska., Maj. James D. Prater, Ret., Waukegan, Ill., and Kenneth A. Prater, Independence, Mo.; one sister, Beatrice Duckett, Tekonsha, Mich.; one brother, Robert E. Prater, Riverton, Kan.; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 5, in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel, Grove, with Nolan Scarberry officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 4, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

JAN PREWETT
MIAMI, Okla. - Jan Prewett, 68, of Miami, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at the home of her son in Miami after an illness. Mrs. Prewett was born December 28, 1932 in Ottawa County, Okla., to Taylor and Cledth (Youngblood) Davis, Jr. She has lived in Ottawa County most of her life. Mrs. Prewett was an LPN at Baptist Regional Health Center, retiring in 2000 after 18 years. She had been active in the Alzheimer's Support Group and attended the Nazarene Church.
Surviving are: son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sherry Prewett of Miami; brother, Daniel Geronimo Davis of Breckinridge, Colo.; two sisters, Donna Dean Cook of St. Louis, Mo., and Sonia Elaine Schroder, of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren, James, Stacey, and Amber, and one great grandson, Taylor.
Funeral services for Mrs. Prewett, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, in the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Bro. Dan Ipock will officiate. Burial will be in the Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens east of Miami under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 Monday evening at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

OPAL PRIEST
JAY, Okla. - Opal Priest, 84, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Heritage Hill Nursing Center in McAlester, Okla. Opal was born December 2, 1916 to General David Mullin and Lovicy Jane Ford in Delaware County. May 30, 1935, Opal and James Henry Priest were united in marriage. Opal was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church and she held a license for free full gospel. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, one daughter, Francis Loretta Priest, one sister, Lorene Chambers Norcross, and a brother, Doris Lee Mullin.
She is survived by two sons, Ruben Charles Priest of Phoenix, Ariz., and David Leroy Priest of Vass, N.C.; two daughters, Margaret Louise Rensberger of McAlester, Okla., and Bonnie Jane Green of Phoenix, Ariz.; one foster daughter, Virginia Williams of Santa Maria, Calif.; one sister, Velma Silcox of Colcord, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and many friends.
Services were held Tuesday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Church in Southwest City, Mo. officiated by Rev. Ralph Houck and Dwindle Silcox. Interment was at the Dickson Cemetery in Cherokee City, Ark. Services were under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel Jay.

CHARLES O. PRITCHARD
GROVE - Charles Orson Pritchard, 68, died Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo. Mr. Pritchard was born on September 6, 1933 to Dick and Edna (Renfro) Pritchard in Grove. He married Sue Ann Mount on January 23, 1953. She died on January 13, 1964. He married Carol Hilliard on July 29, 1983 and she survives. Charles was a building contractor and owner of Cherokee Construction Co., Grove, for many years. He also owned Pritchard Service Stations in Grove from 1958-1962 and Pritchard Chevrolet from 1970-1973. He contracted sewer, water and telephone lines in the area and was owner of Pritchard Construction Company until his retirement. His last big construction project was the sanctuary of Elk River Baptist Church. He retired as a Grove volunteer fireman after 21 years. Mr. Pritchard was a two term member of the Grove City Council. He also served on the Grove Airport Board. He was a member of Elk River Baptist Church. Mr. Pritchard was a pilot who loved flying in earlier years and was a champion checker player, but his main interest was his family - especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include: his wife, Carol; one son, Rick and wife, Patsy Pritchard, Grove; one daughter, Tammy Pritchard and companion, Cecil Thompson, Bull Shoals, Ark.; three grandchildren, Rustin Ray Pritchard, Charles Levi Pritchard and Meggie Pritchard, all of Grove. Although Mr. Pritchard was an only child, he grew up with his first cousin, Sherman Richardson, Grove. He was preceded in death by his first wife, an infant daughter, Diane Pritchard in 1960, and an infant son, Russell Pritchard, in 1964. Memorials may be made to Elk River Baptist Church Building Fund, Grove.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 9, at Elk River Baptist Church, Grove. Burial followed at Olympus Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

LINDA MAE PROCTOR
SALINA, Okla. - Funeral services for Linda Mae Proctor, 61, of Salina were Monday, April 16, 2001 at 11 a.m. in The Steely Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Steely Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Key Funeral Home of Pryor.
Linda was born June 24, 1939 in Mazie, Okla. and passed away April 13 at her home in Salina. She was the daughter of Ralph M. and Lee Anna (Rabbit) Dotson. Linda grew up in the Mazie and Collinsville area, attending school in Collinsville, graduating in 1957. She and John Proctor were married May 7, 1956 in Collinsville. Soon after her marriage, she began what was to be a 29-year career with the Oklahoma State Employment Service. She also served her family as a wife and mother, raising two daughters. Linda was a member of Steely Baptist Church and in her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing bingo. Her family says she was the kindest lady you could every know. She will be greatly missed by all that shared in her life.
She is survived by her step-father, Thomas Bean, of Pryor, Okla.; two daughters, Johna Proctor of Irving, Texas, and Julie Proctor of Salina, Okla.; two brothers, Ralph Dotson of Collinsville, and Jerry Sappington of Cedar Crest. Linda's husband and parents preceded her death.

MATTHEW BERNARD RAU
JAY, Okla. - Matthew B. Rau, age 93, died in his home on Sunday, September 23, 2001. The son of Herman and Anna Mary Rau, he was born on April 13, 1908 in Hamilton County, Kan. Mr. Rau worked in Tinker Air Force Base during WWII. After WWII, he moved to Perry where he had Rau's Wielding until his retirement in 1971. In 1972 he moved to Jay because he loved to fish. He loved his two great-grandsons, calling the oldest his fishing buddy.
Survivors are: a daughter, Mary Ann Whitman, of Oklahoma City; a granddaughter, Cynthia Dee Powers and her husband, Matthew Wayne, of Edmond; two great-grandsons, Corbin Matthew, and Cameron Michael Powers.
The funeral will be at the graveside in the Duffield Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

JOHN E. READ
CHERRYVALE, Kan. - John E. Read, 40, of Cherryvale, died Friday afternoon from injuries sustained in a plane crash Friday afternoon east of Independence.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cherryvale Christian Church with Gerald Zuck, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale. Although the casket has been closed, friends may call at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial remembrances to the Cherryvale EMS/Fire Department or the Cherryvale Christian Church and remembrances will be received at the Potts Chapel of Cherryvale.
John Edward Read was born December 29, 1960 in Independence, Kansas the son of Robert Lee Read and Eudora Fay (Carson) Read. He grew up and attended grade school in Cherryvale and then attended Labette County High School in Altamont where he graduated in 1978. Following his graduation he went to work for his father at the Cherryvale Grain Company and took over management of the company in 1993 and remained in that capacity until the business sold in 1995. Following the sale of the business he became associated with Funks Manufacturing Co. in Coffeyville as a machinist, a position he held at the time of his death.
In 1990 he was elected Mayor of Cherryvale and was also a volunteer with the Cherryvale Fire Department and trained as an EMT from 1978 to 1993. He was a member of the Cherryvale Christian Church.
Surviving are his parents, Bob and Eudora Read of Grove, Okla.; four sisters, Linda VanDam of Tulsa, Okla., Margaret Lagow of Joplin, Mo., Martha Walker of Overland Park, Kan., and Karen Conner of Cherryvale; one brother, Bryan Read of Cherryvale, his maternal grandmother, Almedta Carson of Parsons, Kan.; nieces and nephews, Denise Green of San Francisco, Calif., Sam and Melissa Read of Cherryvale, Dylan Walker of Overland Park, Stephanie and Danielle Lagow of Joplin, Torrey Conner of Cherryvale and Kara Mullimax of Tulsa.
