DARMON BURNARD SWIFT
STRANG, Okla. - Darmon Burnard Swift, 61, met his Lord October 11, 2001 at his home in Strang, Okla. Darmon was born May 24, 1940 in Disney, Okla., to Lawerence (Doc) D. Swift and Dixie Jean Branson Swift. Darmon was called to the Ministry at an early age. He pastored numerous churches over a period of 43 years, with 19 of those years pastoring Topsy Assembly of God Church in Topsy, Okla. Besides his love for his ministry, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Darmon was a very loving and devoted husband, dad, and grandpa. If he wasn't fishing, hunting or telling stories he was at home working on his latest craft project. You could always catch him willing to brag on his children and grandkids and witnessing for Jesus, when he was done would be someone he would call a friend. Darmon was preceded in death by wife, Ada Marie Swift, December 18, 1983.
He is survived by: his parents, Lawrence (Doc) and Dixie Swift; his wife, Rhoma Lee Swift, of the home; one sister, Linda and husband, Leo Scott; four sons, Rex and wife, Regena Swift, Strang, Rodney and wife, Gina Swift, Bradleyville, Mo., Clayton and Jennifer Bates, Arnold, Mo., and Doyle and Michelle Bates, Fort Gibson, Okla.; one daughter, Jennifer and husband, James Satterwhite, Strang; eight grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives Monday, October 15, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay, Okla. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, at the Assembly of God Church in Jay. Officiating will be Lenny Martin and Lavern Pitts. Darmon will be laid to rest at the Edwards Cemetery in Kirbyville, Mo. Services will be under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay.
EDITH M. SYVERSON
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - Edith M. Syverson, 84, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001 in Broken Arrow, Okla. Born December 15, 1915 in Grindstone, Pa. to Regina and Dominique Perna, Edith was one of nine siblings. After graduating from high school in Brownsville, Pa., she moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she met Clarence Syverson. The couple married December 18, 1937. He preceded her in death November 1968.
Edith is survived by daughters Carol Linihan of Oologah, Okla., Joyce Toney of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Debbie Gallier of Grove; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and a sister, Faye Parenti, of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Moore's Eastlawn Funeral Home located at 18th and Memorial in Tulsa, Okla. Interment
will follow at Floral Haven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be mailed to the Grove General Hospital Foundation's Diabetes Fund at 1301 S. Main in Grove, OK 74344.
NOLA H. TAYLOR
NEOSHO, Mo. - Nola H. Taylor, Neosho, Mo., died at Neosho Medicalodge Monday after a lengthy illness. She was 89. She was born August 19, 1912 at Twin Mounds, Okla., to Green and Emily Hall Moore. She was self-employed as a beautician. She married Lester J. Taylor December 26, 1945 at Columbus, Kan. He preceded her in death March 30, 1989. She had lived in Neosho for five years, coming from Grove. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Afton.
She is survived by two sisters, Lucretia Turner of Neosho, and Pauline Johnson of Afton; four nephews and three nieces. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, at Adcock Funeral Home Chapel in Afton with Rev. Jack Jones officiating.
Pallbearers will be LeRoy Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Wayne Moore, Scott Johnson, Justin Johnson, and Eric Johnson. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Jones.
Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Afton. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Adcock Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Afton. Arrangements provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Afton.
DONALD A. TEDFORD
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Donald A. Tedford, age 82, died Monday, May 28, 2000 at Family Care Center of Fairland after a lengthy illness. He was born May 5, 1919 to Leroy and Etta Lemaster Tedford at Pauls Valley, Okla. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, having worked last for Christian Oilfield Equipment and Construction Co. He married Lola B. Hart at Lindsay, Okla. September 2, 1940. They moved to the Fairland area November 2000 from Bentonville, Ark.
He is survived by his wife, Lola, of the home; three sons, Doug and wife, Pam Tedford, of Fairland, Phil Tedford of Grove, nd Robert Don Tedford of Bella Vista, Ark.; two daughters, Cecilia Graham of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Anna Mewhinney and husband, Dan, of Houston, Texas; a brother, John Tedford, of Bentonville, Ark.; a sister, Dorothy Cops of Bentonville, Ark.; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at Adcock Funeral Home Chapel in Fairland at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 2, with Rev. Andy Krebs officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland.
ROBERT ANTHONY 'RED' THOMAS
WHITE OAK, Okla. - Robert Anthony "Red" Thomas, 54-year-old White Oak resident, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2001 at his home.
"Red" was born August 14, 1947 to Milford Thomas and Jerline Beatrice (Chisolm) Thomas. He was a retired welder.
Survivors include: one daughter, Natialie Thomas, of Claremore, Okla.; wife, Jackie Thomas; three sisters, Gerry Kidd of Skiatook, Okla., Karen Tiger of Tulsa, Okla., and Cindy Tiger of Colo.; six brothers, Gerald Thomas, Bruce Thomas, and Martin Thomas, all of White Oak, Bill Thomas of N.H., John Thomas of Muskogee, Okla., and Chiefy Thomas of White Oak, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Nathan, in 1999, and one sister, Nan Cordelia Thomas in 2000.
Graveside Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, at the Thomas Cemetery in White Oak. Mr. Herman Henderson officiated.
Serving as Pallbearers were Gerald Thomas, Jr., Vincent Thomas, Julian Moon Hummingbird, Charles Thomas, Robert L. Slinker, and Job Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers were Damien Lomayesza, Branden Tiger, Dace Tiger, Shane Kidd, Bradley Ray Dick, Mopar, and Bobby Ray Barnheart.
Arrangements were under the direction Burckhalter Funeral Home.
JOYCE ANN THOMPSON
GROVE - Joyce Ann Thompson, 61-year-old resident of Grove, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at her home. Born February 1, 1940 in Leach, Okla., she was the daughter of Elgie Richard Bryan and Erma Mae Changler Bryan. Mrs. Thompson had been a resident of Grove for the past 19 years, formerly a resident of Siloam Springs, Ark. She was a Pink Lady with the Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital and a member of the Primavera Garden Club in Siloam Springs. Joyce was a member of Cayuga Mission Church in Grove. She was preceded in death by her mother and one sister, Patricia L. Gray.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jim Thompson of the home; one daughter, Stacy Thompson Heldmar and her husband, Blake, of Tulsa, Okla.; one grandson, Samuel Thompson Heldmar of Tulsa; her father, Elgie Richard Bryan, and his wife, Virginia, of West Siloam Springs, Okla.; one sister, Yvonne "Booley" Holston of Siloam Springs, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 4, at Wasson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jerry Hopkins officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark. Memorial contributions may be made to Oaks Mission Indian Center, P.O. GROVE - Paul Thompson, 45, of Grove, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 at 9:15 a.m. in Brownsville Medical Center, Texas. Services are pending with Worley-Luginbuel Grove.
LOUISE J. THORPE
EUCHA, Okla. - Louise J. Thorpe of Eucha, Okla. went to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 12, 2001 at the Grove General Hospital. He was 91. Mr. Thorpe was born April 6, 1910 to Jacob Marion and Sarah Elizabeth Jerome Thorpe at Muskogee, Okla. He owned and operated Thorpe Sheet Metal in Tulsa for 32 years, retiring in 1962. He was a K.C.C.H. life member of the Masonic Lodge #71 in Tulsa, Tulsa Scottish Rite Valley, Akdar Shrine-Saba Grotto of Tulsa, and the Moose Lodge in Grove. He married Emma V. Klein Thorpe on January 16, 1944 at Wewoka, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, Emma, of Eucha; one daughter, Doris Lee Welch, of Maple Valley, Wash.; one son, Arthur Thorpe of Tulsa, Okla., and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Dogwood Chapel at Eucha. Rev. Den Maas to officiate with Rev. Lenny Martin assisting. Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.
ANITA F. TIRRES
COMMERCE, Okla. - Anita F. Tirres, Commerce, died Saturday at 9:05 a.m. at Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after an illness. She was 86. She was born July 7, 1914 to Joaquin and Refugio Garcia Tellez at Morenzi, Ariz. She had been a homemaker and was married to Antonio Tirres on August 25, 1945. He preceded her in death. She was of the Protestant faith and had moved to this area in 1998 from Oxnard, Calif.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Antonio and Ramie Tirres Jr., of Miami; a daughter and her husband, Angie and Ben Castro, of Virginia; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted by Adcock Funeral Home of Afton, Okla. at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 26, with Rev. Don Childers of Word of Faith Christian Center officiating. Arrangements were provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Afton.
LINDA FAYE TOOMEY
BERNICE, Okla. - Linda Faye Toomey, 54, passed away August 7, 2001 at her home. She was born July 17, 1947 in Chelsea, Okla., to Lenard and Mary Stimson Ridenour. Linda attended Bushy Head Elementary and graduated from Chelsea High School in Miami. She attended NEO College in Miami and received an associate of arts degree. She was a heavy equipment operator in the operating engineers union and worked for Hickory Coal Company. She and her husband, Larry, traveled working union jobs.
Survivors are: her parents, Lenard and Mary Ridenour, of Bernice; her husband, Larry, of the home; two sons, Lynn Allen Boyd and Gary Toomey; one sister, Gayle Reece of Bernice, and two nephews.
Services were held Saturday, August 11, at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Grove. Officiating was Steven Decker. Interment was at the Rolston Monkey Island Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel of Grove.
VERNON LEROY TOPLIFF
MIAMI, Okla. - Vernon Leroy Topliff, 72, of Miami died Friday, April 27, 2001 at his home after a sudden illness. Mr. Topliff was born May 30, 1928, in Jewell City, Kan. to Leroy Elmer and Audrey May (Estes) Topliff, due to an accident at birth, Mr. Topliff was disabled with Cerebral Palsy. Between 1931 and 1945 Mr. Topliff had 31 operations. He had to crawl or be carried by his parents. At five he got a pony that became his legs, for he did not learn to walk until he was seven-years-old. At nine he enrolled in the R.J. DeLano School for the Handicapped in Kansas City, Mo. He attended school for nine years. The school bus would pick him up and return him home. He loved to ride the bus, so for recreation he would buy a city bus pass and ride to the end of the line and return, just for fun. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1948 where he racked hay for his father's hay crew. Then he moved to Colorado where he and five other boys in his church, Skyway Baptist, bought Hammond Cord Organs and gave concerts in several small towns. He worked as a janitor in his church and also cared for the baptismal robes. Vernon returned to Oklahoma in 1972 with his family to help care for his grandmother.
He is survived by a sister, Jean Eslick, of Miami, Okla., and several nieces an nephews.
Memorial services will be held Friday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. His sister, Jean Eswick, will officiate, under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home Miami, Okla.
PAUL ARTHUR TOSH
PRYOR, Okla. - Graveside Military services for Paul Arthur Tosh, 75, of Pryor, Okla., and formerly of Wyandotte, Okla., were at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2001 in the Council House Cemetery at Wyandotte, Okla. Rev. Lawrence Pickard officiated and services were under the direction of the Key Funeral Home of Pryor.
Mr. Tosh was born on Jan. 6, 1926 in Tiff City, Mo. He died on May 28, in Pryor, Okla. The son of Ardie Samuel and Ruth (Walker) Tosh, he grew up and attended school in Southwest City, Mo. He then entered the U.S. Army during W.W.II, served in the Korean Conflict, and then went on to serve in the Vietnam War. Paul was a car salesman for many years. He was married to Carol Ray Hise in 1963. He was of the Methodist Faith, and a member of the American Legion Post and the V.F.W. of Wyandotte, Okla.
He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Hunt and husband, David, of Ponca City, Okla., and Amber Johnson of Ponca City, Okla.; five grandchildren; one brother, and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
ROBERT D. "BOB" TOWNSEND
LANGLEY, Okla. - Graveside funeral services for Robert D. "Bob" Townsend, 67, of Langley, Okla, who was born May 30, 1934 in Sterling, Colo., and passed away on July 15, 2001, will be held Thursday, July 19, at 10 a.m. at Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery, Spavinaw, with Reverend Bob Townsend officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team. Services are entrusted to Stephens Memorial Chapel.
Bob had been a resident of Langley and the Grand Lake area since 1977. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served 22 years in the military, retiring from the United States Army in 1977 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a former commander of the American Legion in Spavinaw, and former president of the South Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce. He attended the First Baptist Church in Disney. Bob was an accomplished artist of drawings, paintings, woodworking and woodcarving, and did all the carved signs at Har-Ber Village in Grove. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was very active, along with wife, Dona, in the organization "Parents of Murdered Children." He designed the Memorial Chapel that is built on his property to remember not only his son, but also all victims of violent crimes. Family meant everything to him, his wife, children and grandchildren, and he was instrumental in helping Dona raise three sons and a daughter.
He is survived by: his wife, Dona, of the home; sons, Rodney Townsend of Coweta, and Bob Townsend and wife, Dana, of Tulsa; daughter, Tammy Kise and husband, John, of Woodstock, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Carola Townsend Moore of Pryor; grandchildren, Dwayne Townsend and wife, Stephanie, of Wagoner, Sandi Duvall and husband, Tony, of Afton, Zach Townsend and Jeremiah Townsend, both of Coweta, Kacey Townsend and Chris Townsend, both of Tulsa, Julia Kise and Jonathan Kise, both of Woodstock, Ill., and Keith Medders of Grove; great grandchildren, Rickey Duvall and Branden Duvall of Afton; sister, Dorothy Townsend of Denver, Colo.; brother, Richard Koontz and wife, Jan, of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ed Townsend, his parents, Jim and Ruth (Arndt) Townsend, and a brother, Don Vandusen.
In lieu of other remembrances, donations can be made to the Disney First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Family will receive friends and family on Wed., July 18, from 6 to 8 p.m.
KIMBERLY ANN TRASK
AFTON, Okla. - Kimberly Ann Trask, 40, passed away Wednesday, May 9. Kimberly was born December 29, 1960 in Colorado to the late Mac and Pat Armsworthy. Kim was employed at the Rocman Boys Home in Miami, Okla.
Kimberly is survived by one daughter, Delanie Baird; two sons, Tylor and Nick Trask; one sister, Michelle Kirby Thompson, of Tulsa, Okla., and two brothers Gerald and James Armsworthy.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends Monday, May 14, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay, Okla. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the Ballard Cemetery in Bernice, Okla. Services are under direction of Turner Funeral Chapel Jay.
