LUSTER NORMAN BUTLER, JR.
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - Luster Norman Butler, Jr., age 58, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Sunday, January 13, 2002 at his home. He was born July 30, 1943 in Tahlequah, Okla., the son of Luster N. Butler, Sr. and Margaret J. Tye Butler. Mr. Butler lived in Little Rock prior to moving to the Siloam Springs area in 1974. He married Rhelda Mae Young near Holly Springs, Ark., on January 21, 1964. He was a deacon of Christie Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his father, Luster N. Butler, Sr. of Quail Ridge, West Siloam Springs, Okla.; one son, Michael Durand Butler and his wife of Siloam Springs; five brothers, Ronald R. Butler of Paris, Texas, Jesse F. Butler of Tahlequah, Jimmy L. Butler of West Siloam Springs, Lowell W. Butler of Siloam Springs, and Daniel L. Butler of Stilwell, Okla.; three sisters, Carolyn J. Church of Harrison, Ark., Georgia E. Reed of Gentry, Ark, and Lucinda D. Reeves of Muldrow, Okla.; and one granddaughter, Anna Renee of Siloam Springs.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, at the Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, with funeral services on Wednesday, January 16, at 2 p.m. at the Wasson Chapel. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Brother Fred Nixon and Brother Joe Pigeon will officiate. Funeral services are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

LORRAINE EDNA FORTNER-BUTTS
GROVE - Lorraine Fortner-Butts, age 83, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 in the Grove Nursing Center. She was born on March 22, 1919 in Romona, Okla. to Roy Ray McAlister and Ida Mae Allen McAlister. Edna attended the Mound Valley High School but finished her schooling in 1960 at the Garfield High School in California. She married Carl Fortner on June 5, 1935 and they moved to California until returning to Oklahoma in 1970. He preceded her in death in 1986. Edna later married Donal A. Butts and he preceded her in death in 2001. She attended the First Christian Church in Grove. She was a noted China Painter and taught classes in Grove. A daughter, Lou Etta Eager also preceded Edna in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Fortner, in Grove; five grandsons, Timothy David Eager, Thomas Daniel Eager, Tod Darrin Eager, Terrin Dale, and Stephen Snyder; six granddaughters, Karen Lynn Snyder; Cynthia Anne McKnight; Trina Dawn Eager; Tricia Rogers, Tanci Eager, and Tamara Eager; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Hayward in Blue Jacket, Okla.
The funeral was held at graveside in the Buzzard Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 8. The services were under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

RONALD D. BUZZARD
GROVE - Ronald D. Buzzard of Grove died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at his home after a sudden illness. He was 51.
Mr. Buzzard was born May 3, 1950 to Dennis Buzzard and Jewel (Short) Mathiason of Southwest City, Mo. He graduated from Grove High School and served his country in the United States Navy. He then went on to continue his education at N.E. Oklahoma A&M College, then Pittsburg State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics, and a Master's degree in Business. Mr. Buzzard co-founded a computer business called the Phoenix Group, Inc. He attended the Grand Lake Baptist Church in Grove. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Larry Buzzard.
Survivors include: his mother, Jewel Mathiason of Sanora, Calif.; two children, Matthew Buzzard and Meghan Buzzard, both of Pittsburg, Kan.; and two sisters, Gail Buzzard and Jane Buzzard, both of Sanora, Calif.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, February 4, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Pastor Larry Moore officiated. Interment followed at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove. The Grove Veterans Ritual Team conducted military rites.

DIMPLE J. BYRD
EUCHA, Okla. - Dimple J. Byrd, 76, passed away November 17, 2002, at Grove Nursing Center, Grove, Okla. Dimple was born December 31, 1924 to Lewis Dick and Emma Smith at Berryville, Mo. Dimple attended school at Eucha, and later married Howard Martin Byrd on April 9, 1942. Dimple worked for TG&Y stores for 20 years at Sand Springs and later retired and moved to Eucha in 19678. Dimple enjoyed making do-dads and giving them away to people around town. She also attended the Assembly of God Church in Jay for the last seven years. Dimple is preceded in death by her husband, Howard; two brothers, Jim Dick and Dale Dick; and one sister, Toy Youngblood. Dimple is survived by three sisters, Elma Ward of Coosbay, Ore., Violet Loftis of Springfield, Ore., Gladean Lardy of Burton, Ore.; and one brother, Sammy Joe Dick of Maysville, Ark.; four children, Jerald Byrd and wife, Margie, of Coweta, Okla., Deloris and Donald Worthan of Eucha, J.C. Byrd and Sandy of Jay, Okla., Brenda and Jerry Spicer of Grove; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Family visitation was held Monday, November 18, at the Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay. Services for Dimple will be Tuesday, November 19, at 2 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church, Jay. Interment will be at Eucha Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay.

PATRICIA 'PATTY' JEAN BYRLEY
BERNICE, Okla. - Patricia "Patty" Jean Byrley, died Tuesday, March 13, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., after a short illness. She was 34. She was born May 31, 1967, at Denver, Colo., to Richard and Dolly Butz. She worked as a caregiver at the Home of Hope in Vinita, Okla., for the past four years. She married David Byrley on June 6, 1987, at Greers Ferry, Ark.
Survivors include: her husband, David Byrley, of the home; her father, Richard, of Arvada, Colo.; her mother, Dolly, of Abilene, Texas; two sons, Garrett (age 10), and Justin (age 6), both of the home; a twin brother, Ric Butz, of Abilene; and a special aunt, Annabelle Harr, of Denver, Colo.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Emmanuel Temple in Vinita, with Rev. Bruce Butler officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be John Paul Lenda, Robert Whiting, Larry Chancelor, Dennis Hendricks, Roger Witt, and Pete Osborn. Burial will follow at Ballard Cemetery in Bernice. Services are under the direction of the Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 15, at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.

ROXIE CLARA CABLE
MIAMI, Okla. - Roxie Clara Cable, a resident of Miami, died Friday, October 18, 2002 at a local nursing home in Miami at the age of 90 years.
She was born February 8, 1912 in Gravette, Ark., to John and Minnie (Boidston) Bradley. She had lived most of her life in Oklahoma, moving to Miami in 1960 from Welch, where she had lived for 10 years. She attended school in Grove and graduated from the Hickory Grove School in 1932. She also attended a business college in Springfield, Mo. She attended the Friends Church in N. Miami, and was a member of the Baptist Church in Grove and the VFW Auxiliary in Oklahoma City. She owned a general store in Luther, Okla., and also her mother's store, "Sunbeam Grocery," in Baxter Springs, Kan. She was a secretary for the Blue Card Union of Picher, a doctor's office in Grove, and county agent in Jay. She married Homer Leslie "Tobe" Cable. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1962. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, A.D. Bradley. There are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 22, at 10 a.m. at GAR Cemetery in Miami, with interment following.
Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.

DONALD LEE CALDWELL
GROVE - Donald Lee Caldwell, age 68, passed away at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at St. John's Regional Medical Center.
Born May 22, 1933 in the Oak Grove Community South of Joplin, Mo. He had lived in the Joplin area his lifetime. A 1951 graduate of Neosho High School, he served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korean War veteran. He worked at Eagle-Picher Industries for five year and then owned and operated Four State Machine Products. He was a member of the Joplin Eagle's Lodge No. 2410, Grove Moose Lodge, and Grove Elk's Lodge No 2715. He was a member of the Columbus American Legion Post No. 3 and a life member of Grove V.F.W. Post No. 8380.
On December 27, 1957 he married Marylin Keeling in Joplin.
Survivors include: his wife, Marylin, of the home; his mother, Fern Caldwell, and two sisters, Twyla and Melba Caldwell, all of the Oak Grove Community. His father, Delbert O. Caldwell, preceded him in death on November 12, 1994.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Parker Mortuary Chapel in Joplin, Mo., with Jim Stockham and Rev. Randy officiating. Interment will follow at Olympus Cemetery at Grove. Todd Ramsey, Thad Ramsey, Chester VanDoren, Rex Hunt, Allen Keeling, Wesley, Keeling, Howard Keeling and Terry Maddox will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. The family will be at the home of his mother and sisters in the Oak Grove Community. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

HUBERT DALE CALLAWAY
AFTON, Okla. - Hubert Dale Callaway of Afton, Okla., died Monday, July 22, 2002 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., following a long illness. He was 76. He was born on July 4, 1926 to William D. and Shirley J. (Leonard) Callaway.
He married Vivian Mills on September 12, 1945 in Watonga, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from September 1944 to December 1946. He was a mechanic supervisor for Yellow Freight Company, retiring in 1988 after 21 years. He moved to Afton in January 1968 from Del City, Okla. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Lions Club International.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Vicki Way of Meeker, Okla., and Deborah Callaway of Petaluma, Calif.; one son, Mike Callaway of Harrah, Okla.; four grandchildren, Ben Way, Matt Way, Marc Callaway and Amy Callaway, and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Way and Cameron Callaway.
The visitation will be from 7 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami, Okla. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel in Miami. Burial will be in the Glen-Abbey Memorial Gardens Cemetery east of Miami.
The family has asked that memorials be sent to the Scleroderma Foundation in care of the funeral home..

CATHERINE A. CAMPBELL
GROVE - Catherine A. Campbell, age 72, died Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the Grove Nursing Center.
Catherine was born on December 15, 1929 in Hamburg, Iowa, to John Theodore and Harriette June (Tate) Larson. She lived most of her life in the Omaha, Neb., and Council Bluffs, Iowa, areas. She was married to Randall Campbell. Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker and worked for eight years at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph of Plattsmouth, Neb. She and her husband moved to the Grove area in 1982 from Council Bluffs.
Survivors include: her husband, Randall, of Grove; and one daughter, Carol Janicek of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Tate Larson.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove.

JOHN WILLIAM CANTRELL
OTTAWA, Kan. - John William Cantrell, age 89, of Ottawa, died late Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, Kan.
He was born August 11, 1913 in Arkansas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Cantrell. He grew up as a young boy in Arkansas. As a young man, he worked as a farm worker in Arkansas and as a seasonal worker and fruit harvester in California for several years.
On June 1, 1936 he was united in marriage to Lou Ellen Hopkins in Summerfield, Okla. They shared over 65 years of married life together before the death of Mrs. Cantrell on November 23, 2001.
They resided in Oklahoma before moving to Shawnee, Kan., in 1965. They moved to Ottawa in 1975. John worked as a carpenter for most of his life. After moving to Ottawa he worked for several years for ECKAN on the weatherization crew until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and gardening as his favorite hobbies.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ottawa.
He is survived by: one son, Olen Cantrell, and his wife, Marie, of Blue Mound, Kan.; one daughter, Debi Gentry, and her husband, Steve, of Princeton, Kan.; one sister, Donna Johnson, of Ft. Smith, Ark.; six grandchildren, Randy Cantrell, Russell Cantrell, Ronda Raphael, Regina Sailor, Christy Stauffer and Dusty Gentry; 13 great-grandchildren, Merranda, Thomas, Chrissy, Erica, Jessi, Calem, Shane, Cody, Jonah, Kiley, Kiley Marie, Russell, Jr., and Regan; and one great-great granddaughter, Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and four brothers, Ralph, Wes, Jack, and Clyde Cantrell.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 21, at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa. Interment followed in the Princeton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, sent in care of the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067.

FREDERICK DAVID CARD
CHANUTE, Kan. - Frederick David Card, 62, died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
He was born November 5, 1939 at Humboldt, Kan., the son of Elmer and Christiana Lucinda Jane (Baker) Card. He attended Humboldt High School. He was a truck driver for EOTT for many years until he retired in 1999. He was well known for his love of helping people, fishing and camping and for going to flea markets. He was especially fond of his Maltese dog, Casper.
He was a member of Thayer Christian church, Thayer, Kan., the S.A.L. American Legion, and Elks Lodge of Chanute, Kan.
On August 10, 1981 he married Cathy Colston in Miami, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Tim Card of Burlington, Kan., and Craig Card of Chanute; a daughter, Susan Knavel, of La Harpe, Kan.; two stepsons, Jon Bower II and Gary Crowl, both of Chanute; three stepdaughters, Tammy Thornton and Lori Whittley, both of Thayer, and Cindy Ohmart of Kansas City, Mo; 20 grandchildren; one brother, Charles Card of Melissa, Texas; a sister, Mary Jane Sumner of Grove, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Thayer Christian Church with Mr. James Pelley officiating. Friends may call Monday until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., with the family receiving guests from 7 to 8 p.m., all at Johnson Mortuary, Chanute. Interment will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt.
The family suggests memorials to the Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left in care of the mortuary. Johnson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

BOBBY 'MARRY ELLA' CAREY
GROVE - Bobby (Mary Ella) Carey, age 80, of Grove, died Monday, September 16, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., after a short illness.
Bobby was born September 14, 1922 at home in Bernice, Okla., to Francis Everette Weston and Ruth Maydolin Shipman. She married James Ross Carey who preceded her in death. She resided in Grove most of her life and was a member of the Carr Baptist Church. She also bowled in a league in Jay, Okla. She devoted her life to her family and friends who were very special to her.
Bobby was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret (Pete) Carey, and is survived by a sister, Aluwee Robison, and brother-in-law, Truman Robison, of Grove; and a Godchild, Angela Hudelson Brazeal of Tulsa, Okla. Bobby was like a grandmother to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 19, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Carr Baptist Church, Grove. Interment will follow at Buzzard Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home , Grove.
