JOSEPH A. 'JOE' MALOCSAY
MIAMI, Okla. - Joseph A. "Joe" Malocsay, of Miami, died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after an illness. He was 83.
Malocsay was born July 13, 1918 at Miami to Arpad Stanislaus (A.S.) and Mary Coleman Malocsay and lived in Miami his entire life. He graduated from Miami High School with the class of 1936, and went on to further his education and graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Education in 1940 from the Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg, Kan. Mr. Malocsay was an Army Air Corp veteran during World War II, serving with the 93rd Bomb Group.
He taught music at the Afton Elementary School for 18 years, and also was the Grade School Principal. He then taught music at the Will Rogers Middle School for 15 years, retiring in 1980.
Malocsay was a 52-year member of the Knights of Columbus, 50 plus year member of the Floyd L. Perry American Legion Post of Miami, and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami.
He married Alice Nell Sweem on February 7, 1941 in Miami. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2000.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Janet Newburg and husband, Bob, of Rockville, Md., Anne Louise Pendergraft, and Carole Ruth Brashers and husband, Randy, of Miami; one son, Thomas Joseph Malocsay and wife, Connie, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Rosemary Malocsay of Traverse City, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Father Greg Elliott officiating. A Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel, with a visitation to follow at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Juan Cardenas, Greg Pendergraft, Ryan Brashers, Joseph Cardenas, Kevin Brashers, and Russell Bain. Honorary pallbearers will be Linda Subias, Vicki Cardenas, Melissa Pendergraft, Michael Malocsay, Christina Newburgh, Collette Newburgh, and Denise Bain.
Memorials may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Research at Johns Hopkins Hospital, or the American Diabetes Association, and may be sent in care of the funeral home

NANCY ANN MANNING
MIAMI, Okla. - Nancy Ann Manning, age 61, of Miami died Thursday, January 3, 2002 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after an illness.
Mrs. Manning was born August 25, 1940 in Tulare, Calif., to Dan and Juanita Irene (Foust) Jackson. She has lived in Miami for the past five years, moving here from Bethany, Okla. She married Jim Manning, he preceded her in death in 1989. A brother, Danny Jackson, also preceded her.
Mrs. Manning retired seven years ago from the Telephone Company where she worked as an operator and equipment trainer. She worked in the nursery at Northwest Baptist Church in Miami after moving here. She was a member of the Memorial Christian Church in Bethany, Okla., where she was the secretary and attended the Bethany Christian Church here in Miami.
Survivors include: two stepsons, David Manning of California and Gary Manning of Ashland, Ore.; one daughter, Joyce Heeney of Miami; a brother, Allen Jackson, of Hayesville, N.C.; three sisters, Joyce Jackson of Redding, Calif., Marie Price of San Simeon, Calif., and Charlotte Gash of Pettiegrew, Ark.; two grandchildren, Kristen and Kevin Hennely of Miami, and six step grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, in the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Fred Rohlfs will officiate. Mrs. Manning will be entombed in the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.

GERTRUDE 'TRUDE' ALENE MARKLE
GROVE - Gertrude "Trude" Alene Markle, formerly of Southwest City, Mo., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at her home in Grove. She was 88.
Trude was born November 13, 1913 to George and Addy (Kurtsinger) Bledsoe at Sanger, Texas. She worked as a seamstress upholstering furniture. She was an excellent cook and loved to work in the garden growing beautiful plants and flowers. Trude was an active member of the American Legion in Southwest City for 27 years. One sister, Lorraine "Pat" Cade, preceded her in death.
Survivors include: one nephew, Brad Eugene Cade of Ft. Worth, Texas; other survivors that Trude considered family, D.R. Markle; Jess and Joy Cole; Trina, Russell, Hunter, Andrew, and Chloe Harlow; Kirby, Robyn, Peri, and Lexi Lane; and a host of wonderful friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Rev. Sam Carper to officiate. Interment will be at the Southwest City, Mo. Cemetery

WILLIAM 'BILL' MARKLE
AFTON, Okla. - William D. "Bill" Markle, 91, died at Integris Grove General Hospital on Thursday, September 26, 2002.
Bill Markle was born on January 16, 1910 in Minco, Okla., to John A. and Dolly (Fisher) Markle. He graduated from Minco High School in Minco. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Markle married Lessie Lindsey on June 6, 1934 in Chickasha, Okla. She preceded him in death in 1973. He worked in the family grocery store in Minco before buying Tuttle Theatre. He closed the business and moved to Wagoner where he operated Taylor Ferry Marina east of Wagoner. In 1972, Mr. Markle moved to Bernice, Okla. He attended Bernice Baptist Church and loved to fish.
Survivors include: one stepson, William R. Sullivan, Stillwater, Okla.; three nieces, Marion Ferguson Park, Kay Novotney, both of Yukon, Okla., and Carol Confield, Corpus Christi, Texas; one nephew, Chris Bayne, Lawton, Okla.; one grandchild, and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, his mother, father, one brother and two sisters.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 29, at Bernice Baptist Church with Rev. Butch Miller officiating. Burial will take place at Minco Cemetery, Minco, on Monday, September 30, at 2 p.m.
Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

ESTHER ARLENE MARRS
GROVE - Esther Arlene Marrs, age 83, of Grove, died Friday, June 7, 2002 at the Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove. The daughter of Forrest E. Springer and Frances K. (Harkins) Springer, she was born on August 24, 1918 in Liberal, Mo. Esther married James H. Marrs on March 4, 1936 in Joplin, Mo., and he preceded her in death. Esther moved from Joplin to Grove in 1960. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Esther is survived by a son, Don Marrs and wife, Sue, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Mary and husband, Bob Roberts, of Grove; one brother, Lew Springer of Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, at Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin with interment following.
The services were under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. .

CHARLES F. MARSH
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Charles F. Marsh, Sr., 69, of Afton, Okla. died Sunday, December 1, 2002, at the University of Arkansas Hospital in Little Rock after an illness.
Mr. Marsh was born December 4, 1932 in Afton, to Fred and Betty (McClure) Marsh, he has lived in Afton all his life. He was a member of the Miami Elks Lodge and attended the First United Methodist Church in Afton where he was a song leader for ten years.
Mr. Marsh worked for B.F. Goodrich for thirty years and was a farmer and rancher. He married Doris Speer on March 16, 1951 in Afton.
Survivors include: wife, Doris, of the home; two sons, Charles Franklin Marsh, Jr. and wife, Beath, of Neosho, Mo. and Lindsey Blaine Marsh of Vinita, Okla.; one daughter, Claire Elizabeth Thompson, of Miami, Okla.; sister, Fannie Sue Thomas of Salisbury, Md.; grandchildren, Lance and Holly Marsh of Afton, Kade and Katy Thompson of Wheelock, Texas, Erika & Kreg Butler of Grove, Okla., Kellli and Aaron Whitlock of Miami, Matt & Shelby Marsh of Welch, Okla., Buck and Miranda Marsh of Wyola, Mont., and Erin Marsh of Neosho, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Daltum and Jay Dale Whitlock, Case Marsh, Kallie Thompson, Koal Butler, Nathan and Ethan Sajulga.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, in the Bluejacket Cemetery in Bluejacket, Okla. The Rev. Joanne Robinson will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home Afton.
The family will receive friends at 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 3, at Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Afton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Detherage, Gary Hill, and Wayne and Francis Maloney.

WILLIAM FRANKLIN "RED" MARSHALL
FAIRLAND, Okla. - William Franklin "Red" Marshall, much loved lifetime resident of Fairland, died at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami on Monday, January 21, 2002 at 4:14 p.m. after an illness. He was 93.
He was born October 23, 1908 in Ottawa County to Ave and Fannie Mae Kelly Marshall. He was a graduate of Fairland High School. He worked at many different things, but his vocation was as a farmer and postal carrier. He worked for the U.S. Postal service from 1929 till 1989. The first year he carried mail the route was so rough he delivered by horseback. He loved to hunt coyotes, and did so until about a month before his death. He loved to be with people, and spent many hours in the local restaurants telling stories of the past. Much loved by the people of Fairland and surrounding communities, many affectionately called him "Mr. Fairland." He married the love of his life, Edna Mae Sparkman, at Joplin, Mo., on March 13, 1952. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1993. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Fairland, having served on the board of directors for 50 years. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau.
Survivors include: one sister, Virginia Pierce of Fairland; six nephews and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Al Marshall, and three sisters, Mayme Marshall, Pearl Warren, and Ruth Burckhalter.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 24, at First Christian Church in Fairland with Brian Giebler, minister, officiating. Pallbearers will be Bob Detherage, Steve Miller, Vic Boyer, Terry Chase Robert Houck, and Don Tiffany. Interment will follow at Fairland Cemetery.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Christian Church. Arrangements are provided by the Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.

BRENDA S. MARTIN
GROVE - Brenda Sue Martin, age 59, of Grove, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at St. John's Hospital after a short illness.
Brenda was born April 5, 1943 in Muskogee, Okla., to Earl and Lola (Busby) Cole. She graduated from Santa Ana High School in California after spending most of her school years in Sand Springs, Okla. She married Harlan Martin on March 11, 1975 in Tustin, Calif. Brenda was an accomplished bowler in southern California and belonged to the Western Woman's Professional Bowlers. She was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Grove and a member of the Chicks with Sticks pool team. Brenda owned and operated a printing company in California for many years. Brenda and her husband, Harlan, moved to Grove in 1999 from Tustin. She was a joy to all that knew her.
Survivors include: her husband, Harlan; daughters, Cindy Hayes of Orange, Calif., Cindy Harris of Upland, Calif., Sandy Norby of Tustin, Cheryl Bouwens of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Michelle Hayes of Santee, Calif.; one son, James Martin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Joanne Ernandes of Watkins, Colo.; and 13 grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

ELIZABETH IRENE MARTIN
GROVE - Elizabeth Irene Martin, 91, died Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Grove General Hospital.
Elizabeth I., Martin was born December 8, 1910 in Delaware County, Okla. to Thomas and Florence (Currey) Durhan. She married Hubert E. Martin on September 30, 1931 in Grove. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Martin was homemaker and member of the Church of Christ in Grove. She had lived in this area since 1974 after a short time in Kansas City, Mo.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary Martin, Desota, Kan., and Everette Martin, Afton, Okla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday , December 5, at Worley-Luginbuel Chapel with Doug Rainbolt officiating. Interment will follow at Olympus Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday preceding the service.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove

LEORA JOSEPHINE MARTIN
JAY, Okla. - Leora Josephine Martin, 87, passed away September 4, 2002 at Grove General Hospital. Leora was born September 5, 1914, to Ora Frank Hopps and Bertha Parker Hopps at Manitou, Okla. Leora married Woodrow Wilson Martin in September 1933.
Leora is preceded in death by her mother and father, four brothers and one sister. She is survived by her husband; one sister, Sarah Swindell; one daughter, Ora Bernice Marin Vancourt; four sons, G.W. Martin, Jim E. Martin, Charles Martin, and Al Martin; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Graveside services for Leora will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, Ark.
Services are under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay.

SHARON A. MARTIN
GOODMAN, Mo. - Sharon Ann Martin, age 59, of Goodman, formerly of Southwest City, Mo., died on Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at 12:30 a.m. at her home in Goodman after an illness.
Sharon Martin was born on February 16, 1942 in Neosho, Mo., to the late Lois Faye (Lair) Patterson and Edward A. Patterson. She had lived in Goodman for six weeks, coming from Southwest City, Mo., where she lived most of her life. She was a member of the Oak Chapel Church of Southwest City, Okla.
Survivors include: three sons, Doyce Latimer, George W. Scott and Jimmy Joe Scott, all of the home in Goodman; two daughters, Cynthia Frye of Southwest City, Mo., and Judy Richey of Platte City, Mo.; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Chapel Church of Southwest City. Reverend Wesley Robbins will officiate. Minister Mike Frye will give the eulogy. Burial will follow the service in the Oakwood Cemetery in Neosho.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 1, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. John's Hospice in care of the Ozark Funeral Home.
