VALROI MODEER
Valroi Modeer, longtime resident of Rosewood Terrace Nursing Center, passed away Wednesday morning, February 13, 2002. She was 72-years-old.
Valroi was born March 4, 1929 in Atchinson, Kan., to Roy Oliver and Irene "Peggy" (Hellener) Modeer. Miss Modeer moved from Tulsa to Vinita in the late 1970's. She was disabled and lived many years at Autumn Home and later at Rosewood Terrace Nursing Center.
Survivors include: four cousins, Sally Werner of Scottsdale, Ariz., Robert Modeer of Kansas City, Mo., John Modeer of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Marsha Piepol of Westwood Hills, Kan., and will be greatly missed by her Rosewood Terrace Family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Private graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 14, at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, Okla.
Services were under the direction of the Burckhalter Funeral Home.

ODELL MOORE
GROVE - Odell Moore, 78, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, Ill.
Odell Moore was born on May 5, 1924 in Oklahoma to John Wesley and Jennie (Rozar) Moore. He grew up in the Vinita, Okla., area and spent most of his life in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Moore was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and was self-employed as a machinist. He was the last of nine children.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Kowalcyzk of Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, at Worley Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Olympus Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

ELIZABETH MARGARET (BETTY) MORE
COMMERCE, Okla. - Elizabeth Margaret (Betty) More, 64, of Commerce, died Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at a local nursing center after an illness.
Mrs. More was born December 6, 1937 in St. John's Newfoundland to Thomas Joseph and Mary Ellen (Hafey) Hanlon. She was lived in the Commerce area most of her life.
Mrs. More was a self-employed wallpaper hanger and painter. She was a member of the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart in Miami, Okla.
Survivors include: one son, David More, of Arizona; one brother, Bob Hanlon, of Canada; four sisters, Ellen Hollandsworth of Commerce, Frances Baker, Mary Frizzell, and Mildred Kelly, all of St. John's Newfoundland; one granddaughter, Jenna Surber of Calif.; and one niece, Sherri White, of Miami.
Mrs. More was preceded in death by: her husband, David More; a son, Dean More; a daughter, Mary Surber; four brothers, Cyril, Gerald, Tom, and John; one sister, Alice Frizzell; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence, Mo., under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Commerce.
Mrs. More will lie in state at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Commerce until Tuesday morning.

JAMES LLOYD (JL) MORROW
EUCHA, Okla. - James Lloyd (JL) Morrow, age 74, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at Tulsa Regional Hospital. JL was born September 8, 1927 at Ketchum, Okla., to Rosco and Grace (Coverdale) Morrow. JL joined the Army Branch of the service in 1945, returning home in 1947. JL later met and married Laura Mae Sturgis and lived in the Topsy-Eucha area.
Survivors include: five children, Bobby Morrow of Catoosa, Okla., Bruce, Rick, and Kim Morrow of Eucha, and one daughter, Trenda Hurt of Jay; two brothers, Roy Morrow of Eucha, and Ralph Morrow of Roth, Okla.; one sister, Melba Slayton of Disney, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
JL is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Morrow.
Family visitation will be Thursday, June 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery, Spavinaw, Okla., with Rev. Kenneth Light officiating.
Services are under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay.

JERALD LEE MULLINS
JAY, Okla. - Jerald Lee Mullins, age 54, passed away April 20, 2002 at Grove General Hospital in Grove. Jerald was born June 19, 1947 in Siloam Springs, Ark., to James Riley and Lucy Pearl Clarey. Jerald joined the army in May 1964 after attending school. He served his country until May of 1967. On December 23, 1968 Jerald and Patsy Sutton were united in marriage. Jerald worked for Garden City Coop in Garden City, Kan., as elevator maintenance and truck driver. In 1998, they moved to Jay where he was employed by Morehead Construction and later opened J&P Country Tires. Jerald was a member of the Mt. Herman Church and a loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry, and one sister, Lillie.
Survivors include: his wife, Pat, of the home; one son, Robert Richardson and wife, Catherine, of Kiowa, Colo.; two daughters, Lucinda K. Coyne and husband, Steve, of Elkins, Ark., and Amanda Beckley and husband, Darren, of Wichita, Kan.; five brothers; six sisters; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, April 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay. Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m., April 26, at the Mt. Herman Church. Jerald will be laid to rest at Dickson Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay.

RONALD ROY MUSTAIN
GROVE - Ronald Roy Mustain, age 68, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.
Ronald Roy Mustain was born on January 18, 1934 in Independence, Mo., to Donald A. and Alyce (Hopkins) Mustain. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Mustain married Betty Burchell on May 3, 1968 in Independence. He worked in sales of domestic items. He was a member of the Raytown Masonic Lodge #391 of Raytown, Mo., and the Scottish Rites. He moved to the Grove area in 1976 from Independence.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty Mustain, of Grove; his mother, Alyce Mustain, of Independence; four sons, Carl Mustain of Tampa, Fla., Mike Mullis of Tulsa, Okla., Craig Mustain of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Rodney Mustain of Enid, Okla.; one brother Don Mustain II of Boca Raton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, one daughter, Teresa Titus, one son, Steven Mullis, and one sister, Alyce Adams.
No funeral services are planned. Arrangements are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, in Grove.

ESTHER L. MYERS
AFTON, Okla. - Esther L. Myers, lifetime resident of Afton, died Monday morning, April 15, 2002 at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness. She was 77. She was born at Topeka, Kan., on July 15, 1924 to Albert E. and M. Esther Stamps Brown, and moved to Afton shortly thereafter. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines for several years, enjoying the harmony and singing with her friends. She was a homemaker, having married Curtis Myers in Afton on June 20, 1940.
Survivors include: her husband, Curtis, of the home; one son, Bill and wife, Lupe, of Shangri-La; one daughter, Suzanne and husband, Mike Brasher, of Greenwood, Ark.; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Myers of Afton; a half-sister, Naomi Godfrey of Leavenworth, Kan.; seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ned Joel Myers, a brother, and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the First Christian Church in Afton with Lee Williams, minister, officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Afton. Pallbearers will be Don Hale, James Fuser, Terry Miller, DeWitt Speer, Rick Kyles, and Grant Victor.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at the First Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements are provided by Adcock Funeral Home in Afton.

DONALD GENE NEEDHAM
RAMONA, Okla. - Donald Gene Needham, 68, of Ramona, retired Phillips Petroleum Company employee, died Tuesday at 5:58 a.m. at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established and those who wish to make a contribution in memory of Mr. Needham may do so to the Arthritis Foundation, 4520 S. Harvard, Ste. 100, Tulsa, OK 74135, or the Washington County SPCA, 16620 St. Hwy. 123, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
Mr. Needham was born Jan. 2, 1934, in Grove to Dewey and Geneva (Reasoner) Needham. He was raised and received his education in Grove. He married Lolita Martin June 30, 1956 in Grove. The couple moved to Bartlesville in 1956 when Mr. Needham was employed by the Phillips Petroleum Co. until his retirement. He was an inventor, holding several patents and liked to hunt, fish and work in the garden.
He is survived by his wife, Lolita, of the home; a son, Edward Needham and his wife, Bev, of Loganville, Ga.; a daughter, Jolita Davis, and her husband, Cliff, of Conroe, Texas; four grandchildren; a sister; five brothers; and numerous other friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

JERRINE NEWKIRK
JAY, Okla. - Julia Jerrine Newkirk of Jay went to be with the Lord Friday, November 15, 2002, at her home in Jay. She was 72.
Jerrine was born September 6, 1930 to George Alfred and Julia Elizabeth Addington Hutchison at Fairfax, Okla. She graduated from the Jay High School and she received her Associate's Degree from Gavilan Junior College at Gilroy, Calif. Jerrine was a homemaker and co-owner of Newkirk Furniture from 1975 to 1982, when the store was destroyed in a fire. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Jay. She married Vaden Laneel Newkirk on July 12, 1948, in Reno, Nev.; he preceded her in death in 1984. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Eugene Hutchison, J.D. Hutchison, and Jess (Bus) Hutchison; two sisters, Martie King and Helen Davis.
Survivors include: one daughter, Sheila Goins of Jay; two sons, John Newkirk and wife, Pam, of Jay; Les Newkirk and wife, Polly, of Jay; three sisters, Nina King of Jay, Aronda Robertson and husband, Lloyd, of Twin Oaks, Shirley Swinford and husband, Jim, of Jay; one brother, Frank Hutchison and wife, Lillian, of Jay; two sisters-in-law, Janice Vanover and husband, Eugene of Topsy community, and Elsie Goins and husband, Woody, of Stephens City, Va.; nine grandchildren, Jane'e Newkirk, Johnny Newkirk, Jeremy Newkirk, Parker Newkirk, Patrick Guinn, Christopher Newkirk, Michael Newkirk, Joshua Newkirk, and Vince Goins.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, at the Jay Community Center, Kenneth Robertson to officiate, and Billy Adcox assisting. Interment will follow at the Mose Ridge Cemetery. Family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay.

ROBERT W. NEWTON
GROVE - Robert W. Newton, age 80, of Grove, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., following 16 days of ill health.
Mr. Newton was born June 27, 1922 in Joplin. He moved to the Iron Horse Resort area of Grove 30 years ago from Joplin. He was a retired Sheet Metal Worker. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was a member of the Grove Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Newton, on March 4, 1995. Survivors include: a daughter, Barbara Ames, Joplin; two sons, Larry Newton, Granby, Mo., and Michael Newton, Joplin; two sisters, Velma Smith, Lexington, Mo., and Katherine Lockwood, Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 13. Arrangements were under the direction of the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin.

KARMIT CLAY NICHOLS
VINITA, Okla. - Karmit Clay Nichols, 91 year old Vinita resident went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 2, 2002.
Karmit was born March 26, 1911 in Stilger, Okla. to John and Lorene Nichols. He moved to Vinita 55 years ago and retired from the Katy Railroad for whom he worked for 23 years and later retired from the Vinita street department for whom he worked for 15 years. Mr. Nichols was of the Pentecostal faith.
Karmit was united in marriage to Ethel Meek in 1935. She preceded him in death on June 8, 1992. Also preceding him in death were his parents, one son, ten brothers and one sister.
Survivors include: four daughters, Shirley Dixon and husband Lynn of Vinita, Margaret Money and husband Dale of Ada, Okla., Betty Pitts and husband Randy of Independence, Mo., Mary Chapman and husband Raymond of Vinita; two sons, Leon Nichols and wife Ruth of Wagoner, Okla., Larry Nichols and wife Beverly of Bernice, Okla.; one sister, Lorene of Blum, Texas; 17 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday June 5, at the Burckhalter Memorial Chapel. Rev. Dale L. Money will officiate. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, D.J. Money, Ronnie White, Josh Pitts, James Money, Michael Chapman, and Ricky Nichols.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, at the Burckhalter Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of the Burckhalter Funeral Home.
