EMOGENE FRANCIS SATTERWHITE
VINITA, Okla. - Emogene Francis Satterwhite, 75-year-old Rosewood Terrace resident, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2002 following a sudden illness.
Emogene was born September 12, 1926 at Shawnee, Okla., to Hosie Keether and Ada Bell (Maddox) Cowan. Emogene moved from Shawnee to Vinita in 1945. She had a bachelor's degree in Education and worked as a teacher, and many years as a Social Worker for the Department of Human Services and Eastern State Hospital.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vinita.
She was united in marriage to George Satterwhite on August 24, 1945. He preceded her in death on September of 1975 after 31 years of marriage.
Her parents and one son, Gary, also preceded her in death in 1982.
Survivors include: four daughters, Sharon Hayes of Big Cabin, Okla., Julia Roberts and husband, Ron, of Vinita, Janis Holland and husband, Bob, of Welch, Okla., and Frances Avery and husband, Robert, of Jay, Okla.; one son, Jim Satterwhite of Langley, Okla.; two sisters, Maxine Bowlan of McCloud, Okla., and Mary Jane Cash of Papasas, Texas; one brother, J.M. Cowan of Midwest City, Okla.; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 28, at the First Baptist Church of Ketchum, Okla. Rev. Skip McClain will officiate. Interment will be in the Ketchum Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 27, at the Burckhalter Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

LEATHA FAY SAWVEL
GROVE - Leatha Fay Sawvel, age 97, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Grand Lake Villa.
Leatha Fay Sawvel was born on March 21, 1904 in Benton County, Ark., to David Lee and Ida Mae (Perkins) Mitchel. She married William Ray Sawvel in Sulphur Springs, Ark., on October 22, 1922. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1972. Mrs. Sawvel had lived in the Grove area since 1941 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grove. She was a homemaker. Her hobbies included gardening.
Survivors include: two sons, Orvel F. Sawvel and wife, Bette, of Tulsa, Okla., Ray Dean Sawvel and wife, Rose Mary, of Grove; one daughter, Neva Jean Buchanan and husband, Clyde, of Grove; two sisters, Ann Lee Petersen of Portland, Ore., and Goldie Boyer of Drumright, Okla.; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 18, at Worley-Luginbuel Chapel with Rev. Loyd Crawford officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 17 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Lee Cemetery in Arkansas.
Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

JACK F. SCEARCY
GROVE - Jack F. Scearcy, 75, of Grove, known as the "best dang fisherman on Grand Lake," passed away Oct. 17, 2002 after a brief illness. Papa Jack passed peacefully at home.
Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy. Jack loved his family, sons Steve, Stan and daughter-in-law Missy. He was immensely proud of his three grandsons Nate, Charlie and Zac.
To all his pool shooting buddies, fishing buddies and all the friends who shared this special life we say thank you and invite you to celebrate Jack's life on Nov. 2nd, 2 p.m., at the Cayuga Mission Church just outside of Grove. Following this happy service there will be a party in Jack's honor.

OLIVER KEN SCHAEFER
QUAPAW, Okla. - Oliver Ken Schaefer, 62, of Miami, Okla., died Thursday, December 12, 2002 at the Higher Calling Nursing Home in Quapaw after an illness.
Mr. Schaefer was born January 10, 1940 in Miami, to Oliver F. and Opal Mary (Schmeling) Schaefer. He has lived in the Miami area all his life. He was a driver for Tri-state Trucking.
Mr. Schaefer was a member of the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Miami. He was baptized at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairland, Okla. on January 29, 1940, and was confirmed at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Miami on March 29, 1953.
Survivors include: his mother, Opal Mary Schaefer, of Miami; special friend, Judy David of Seneca, Mo.; two daughters, Connie Andrews and her fiancée, James Yates, of Cleora, Okla. and Terry and her husband Harry Byrn, of Cleora; one brother, Fred Schaefer and wife, Nancy, of Karney, Mo.; three sisters, Janet Maxson and husband, John, of Claremore, Okla., Drucilla Fugate and husband, Don, of Tulsa, Okla. and Yvonne Burnett and husband, Mike, of Liberty, Mo.; one grandson, Lloyd M. (Splinter) Wood and fiancée, Candie, of Claremore; three granddaughters, Clarina Wood, of Cleora and Colleen and Allison Byrn of Cleora; great grandchildren, Hailey Jayleen and William Lane Wood, of Cleora.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2002, at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Miami. Pastor Donald Kirchhoff officiated. Burial was in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Fairland, under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Bobby Kirk, Derrick Fugate, John McCall, Tom McCall, Randy David, Mike David, Duane Anderson, Bill Bailey and Kenneth Anderson.

RONNY D. SCHLIEP
GROVE - Ronny D. Schliep, Grove, died Monday, November 4, 2002 at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo., after a short illness. He was 72. He was born October 6, 1930 in Fairfield, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Marlin, and one daughter, Ti Schliep.
Ronny's early years included the rodeo circuit. He eventually became a well known horse breeder. He retired to Grand Lake where he enjoyed fishing and spending time on his home computer where he wrote about his life, titled "Cowboy Dreams Should Come with Instructions." He loved his family and friends of which he had many. He was the type of person that made things happen, instead of wondering what happened. He led a joyous and rewarding life.
He is survived by two daughters, Teri and her husband, Dan Riley, of Bluejacket, Okla., and Allison Dennard, Waxahachie, Texas; three granddaughters, Kara and Kayla Riley of Bluejacket, and Krissy Dozier, and great grandson, Zane Garrett, Waxahachie, Texas.
Memorial services will be at a later date in Holyoke, Colo. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

EDMUND J. SCHOENECKER
WICHITA, Kan. - Edmund J. Schoenecker, age 81, died January 8, 2002 following a long battle with cancer. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 11 both at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel, Wichita.
Mr. Schoenecker was born September 26, 1920 in Nashua, Minn., to Barthel and Angela (Mertes) Schoenecker. At a young age he moved with his family to the Wichita area where he lived most of his life. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, 191st Tank Battalion in Europe. He was a member of Midland Baptist Church, Wichita.
Mr. Schoenecker retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital, Wichita, in 1981, moving to Grove, Topeka, Kan., and Salt Lake City, Utah, before returning to Wichita in 2000.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marcella Wilson, and an infant son, Stephan.
Survivors include: Mozetta, wife of 54 years; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Debbie of Alpharetta, Ga., and Peter and Ursula Metzner of Frankfurt, Germany; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bart and Betty of Sedgwick, Kan., Elmer and Genny of Tacoma, Wash., and Vince and Barbara of Pearland, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Doffing of Wichita, Irene Rausch of Medford, Ore., Alvera Johnson of Sedgwick, Marie and Roy Morrow of Grove, Margie Fields of Pearland, and Leona and Gene Vierthaler of Haven, Kan; grandchildren, Jason of Alpharetta, Karin and Christine Metzner of Frankfurt; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Midland Baptist Church and Hospice, Incorporated.

EDITH LUCILLE SCOTT
GROVE - Edith Lucille Scott, 84-year-old longtime area resident, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at Grove General Hospital.
Edith was born July 11, 1918 in Delaware, Okla., to James A. and Della F. (Hood) Stevens. She was a homemaker.
Edith was united in marriage to Lilburn R. Scott on July 17, 1935. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1998.
Her parents, one daughter, Sally L. Scott, and one sister also preceded her in death.
Surviving family members include: two daughters, Mary R. Carson and husband, Jim, of Vinita, Okla., and Scottie J. Sanchez of Vinita; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren, and one niece, Pat Yelton.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 17, at the Fairview Cemetery, Vinita.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, at the Burckhalter Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

LELAND FRED SCHUBERT
MIAMI, Okla. - Funeral services for Leland Fred Schubert, 73, of Miami were held Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairland, Okla., with Leo Schroeder officiating. Burial was in Fairland Cemetery under the direction of Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home.
Mr. Schubert was born June 20, 1929 in Fairland to Henry Frederick and Marie Sophia (Eckhoff) Schubert, and died Sunday, July 14, at his home following a six-month illness.
He graduated from Fairland High School in 1948 and was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served as a past Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
He was a lifelong farmer and rancher in Fairland and had owned and operated the Schubert Implement Co. of Narcissa, Okla., for 26 years. He had also been employed by the B.F. Goodrich plant in Miami for 28 years. He was active in the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, American Hereford Association and the Ottawa County Fair Board. He was a staunch supporter of many 4-H activities.
He and Wanda Pruitt were married in 1950 and they had two children. They were later divorced, and on Dec. 14, 1991, he married Patsy Boyd. They moved to Miami in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy, of the home; a son, Richard Schubert and his wife, Marsha, of Crescent, Okla.; a daughter, Debbie Millarr, of Fairland; a step-son, Phil Boyd, of Miami; two step-daughters, Shelly Mustain her husband, Steve, of Owasso, Okla., and Charlotte McRae and her husband, Jim, of Hot Springs, Ark.; two brothers, Raymond Schubert of Lake Lotawania, Mo., and Norval Schubert and his wife, Joyce, of Afton, Okla.; a sister, Vivian Spencer of Fairland; six grandchildren, Brandon and Garrett Schubert of Crescent, Brent and Cindy Bushnell of Tulsa, Hillary Schubert of Crescent and Stephanie Bushnell of Oklahoma City; four step-grandchildren, Brandon and Angela Trimble, both of Tulsa, and Lindsey and Britany Boyd, both of Miami; five nephews and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence Henry Schubert.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to Integris Regency Hospice, St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the American Lung Association.

PATRICIA MAE DUNCAN-SCROGGINS
ROSE, Okla. - Funeral services for Patricia Mae Duncan-Scroggins, 70, of Rose, Okla., will be held Friday, October 25, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Lowery Free Will Baptist Church in Twin Oaks, Okla. Rev. Lance Rogers and Rev. Utah Humphrey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Elm Cemetery in Leach, Okla. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home of Locust Grove, Okla.
Patricia was born December 30, 1931 in Kenwood, Okla., and passed away October 22 at her home in Rose.
She was the daughter of Clyde and Leona (Burgess) Odle. She grew up in and around the Kenwood and Kansas, Okla., area. She attended school in Kansas, Okla., graduating in 1950. She married Bobby Ray Duncan in 1951. After living in Tulsa, Okla., for a short time, they returned to the Leach area where they settled to make their home and raise a family. After the death of Mr. Duncan in 1979, she married Loyd Scroggins on August 14, 1999, making their home in the Rose area.
Patricia loved being with family and friends. One of her favorite things was to prepare meals for them. She enjoyed quilting and doing needlework in her spare time. She could also be found working in her garden, enjoying nature. She loved to travel on tour buses.
Patricia was a Christian and attended Lowery Free Will Baptist Church since she was a young girl. She liked studying her Bible. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all that shared her life.
Survivors include: her husband, Loyd Scroggins, of the home; one son, Leon and Debbie Duncan of Berryville, Ark.; two stepsons, Wendell and Pat Scroggins of Modesto, Calif., and Olen and Hedi Scroggins of Ceres, Calif.; two daughters, Debbie and Danny Foster of Leach, and Susan and Mitch Crittenden of Leach; one stepdaughter, Glenda and James Gunn of Modesto, Calif.; five brothers, Ervin Odle of Catoosa, Okla., Tommy Gene Odle of Kansas, Okla., W.M. Odle of Tulsa, J.P. Odle of Kansas, Okla., and John Odle of Kansas, Okla.; one sister, Jane Judkins of Ft. Smith, Ark.; 16 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Her parents and two brothers, Jackie Wayne and Clarence Odle preceded her in death, along with her first husband, Bobby Ray Duncan.

SUE SCRONCE
GROVE - Sue Scronce, age 69, passed away September 17, 2002 at Grove General Hospital following a short illness.
She was born January 6, 1933 in Sikeston, Mo., to Clyde E. Tyson and Margaret Walker Tyson. Sue was married to Don Scronce on January 8, 1956 in Hernando, Miss. Being a devoted military wife in the Air Force, she followed her husband to Pearl City, Hawaii, Kansas City, Mo., and Tulsa, Okla.
After many years of enjoyment at the lake, they moved to Grove in 1971 and began Tri-State Janitorial Service. She was admired by all who knew and loved her for her hard-working spirit, compassion and unselfish love.
Survivors include: husband, Donald L. Scronce; two sons, Michael L. Scronce and wife, Patti, Tulsa, and Joseph W. Scronce and wife, Betty, Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Donna S. Foster and husband, Bill, Springfield La., and Patty A. Brooks and husband, Kevin, Wyandotte, Okla.
"Granny Sue" was proud of all of her grandchildren: Kati Scronce, Valarie Brooks, Evan Scronce, Kimberly Brooks, and Ryan Brock and her one great-grandchild, Connor Lee Duree. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret "Maggie" Guccione, Grove, and brother-in-law Bob Scronce, St. Louis, Mo.
Spending time with family and showing her 1966 Mustang Convertible brought much joy and everlasting memories and many friendships.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 19, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove. Burial will be at noon Friday, Sept. 20, at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, Okla. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Don Bates and Rev. Bill Foster will officiate.
