GAIL W. SECONDINE
VINITA, Okla. - Gail W. Secondine, age 82, of Vinita, passed away Monday, May 13, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.
Gail was born October 11, 1919 in Vinita to Asbury and Mary Beulah (Morrow) Heltzel. She was united in marriage to Orvil Thomas Secondine in December of 1941 at Vinita. She was a homemaker and a member of the Family Praise Center.
Survivors include: three daughters, Donna Parker of Vinita, Sharon Cupp and husband, Gary, of Ketchum, Okla., and Fonda Joy Gritts and husband, Dean, of Tahlequah, Okla.; one sister, Willene Gilbert and husband, Bob, of Vinita; 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Family Praise Center. Officiating was the Rev. Jerry Ogdon, assisted by Rev. Arlis Moon. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gail Secondine Memorial Building Fund in care of the Family Praise Center.
Services were under the direction of the Burckhalter Funeral Home.

JAMES MERLIN SHARP
VINITA - Funeral services for James Merlin Sharp, 80, a lifetime Vinita resident, were held Tuesday, July 30, 2002 in the sanctuary of the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charles J. Freeland III officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Burkhalter Funeral Home.
Mr. Sharp was born Oct. 28, 1921 in Vinita to James Preston Aaron Sharp and Ethel Lulu (McNeely) Sharp, and died Saturday, July 27, at Craig General Hospital.
He attended Vinita Schools and graduated with the class of 1940 before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He was a veteran of World War II and served aboard the destroyer escort U.S.S. Reynolds (DE42) as a Radarman 3rd Class, operating in the vicinity of the South Pacific. He earned three campaign ribbons with seven battle stars.
He married Rosemary Louise Vance, who later served as principal at Will Rogers Elementary School for many years, on April 6, 1946 at Dewey, Okla.
After the war, Merlin owned and operated a collection service, worked as a commission agent for Skelly Oil Co., was owner/operator of a service station, owned and operated the Dairy Queen Drive-In Restaurant from 1963-1975, and owned and operated the Grand Cafe from 1970 to 1972.
He was also the information and referral coordinator and ombudsman supervisor for the NECO Area Agency on Aging and worked for Hospice.
He had been a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America since 1955, and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 74 for the mentally and physically handicapped Scouts at the Home of Hope in Vinita for 20 years. He trained Scouts for Wood Badge at the Philmont Scout Ranch, attended three National Scout Jamborees, was Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow, and held the Silver Beaver and numerous other awards and honors.
He was a life member of the American Legion and Veteran's of Foreign Wars, was a former member of the Vinita Lions Club, Toastmasters, Chamber of Commerce, and was a charter member of the Northeast Oklahoma Genealogy Society, serving two terms as president.
He was a longtime member of the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, recently receiving the Celtic Cross for his many years of working with children through the Presbyterian Scouting Program.
He also made arrangements with Santa Claus to make appearances in Vinita for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister, Ruby Mae Sharp Chapin.
Survivors include a daughter, Lou Ann Sanders, of Tulsa; a son, James Robert Sharp, and his wife, Beverly, of Vinita; two grandchildren, James Elmer Sharp , and his wife, Alexandra, of Stillwater, and Jeana Sharp-Bundy and her husband, Andrew, of Stillwater; and one great-granddaughter, Valeria Anne Sharp.
Donations can be made in his memory to Boy Scout Troop #70 in care of the funeral home.

WILLIS HOUSTON SHELL
WELCH, Okla. - Willis H. Shell passed away May 23, 2002 at 1:10 p.m. at Welch Residential Care.
Willis Houston Shell was born on January 18, 1910 in Elgin, Okla., to Della Marrs Shell and Alonzo O. Shell. He grew up in Porum, Okla., and attended Conners Junior College in Warner where he played both basketball and football. He received his bachelor's degree in 1933 from Northeastern State Teachers College in Tahlequah where he lettered in four sports. He married Elosia Chase in 1937. He was the father of three children, Lon Ray, Donald Joe and Ann Lorene. All three graduated from Wyandotte. He was the grandfather of Brian Shell, Doug Pewitt, Tracy Shell, Jana Shell Efferson, Cindy Shell, Dawn Pewitt, and Lon Allan Shell. He was proud of the fact that all seven grandchildren obtained college degrees. In addition to his grandchildren he had seven great grandchildren.
Willis taught at Council Hill, Okla., for one year. In the fall of 1934 he moved to Wyandotte where he coached, taught, and was Principal and Superintendent of Schools. While serving as Principal, he attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater during summer sessions, and in 1952 received his Master's of Education degree. For 40 years, W.H.S. stood for Wyandotte High School and Willis H. Shell. He was a member of the Wyandotte United Methodist Church and a 50-year Mason.
After retirement, Mr. Shell farmed and raised cattle near Wyandotte. In addition to coaching and teaching, he loved animals, including his cattle and hunting dogs. One of his greatest joys was playing dominoes with his friends. In July 1996 he and Mrs. Shell moved to the Welch Residential Care in Welch where she still resides.
In addition to his wife, Elosia, sons, Lon R. and wife, Phyllis Ball Shell, D. Joe and wife, Shirley Friend Shell, and daughter Ann Pewitt and husband, Robert Pewitt, Willis leaves his youngest brother, Alonzo Shell and wife, Violet, of Oklahoma City and sister-in-law Mrs. Jack (Alma Lee) Shell, Topeka Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Laura, Ruth, Ruby, Irene, and a brother, Jack.
Funeral Services under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday May 26, at the United Methodist Church with Tev. W.D. Hollandsworth and Rev. Don Bates officiating. Burial was in the Wyandotte Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronald Clapp, Richard Enyart, Charles Lofland, Richard Wallace, hohn Richard Peacock and Rayon Fent. Honorary Pallbearers were Leaford Bearskin, Tom Derwin, Frank Mobra, Curtis Griffin, Bob Neil and Elmer Peacock.
Memorials may be made to the Wyandotte United Methodist Church or the Wyandotte School gymnasium named for Mr. Shell .

LISA RENAE SHIPP
GROVE - Lisa Renae Shipp, age 37, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.
Lisa was born on May 3, 1964 in Kokomo, Ind., to Richard and Sue (Stephens) Shipp. She graduated from Moore High School, Moore, Okla. Lisa attended The Church of the Nazarene in Grove.
Survivors include: her parents; two sons, Christopher Shipp and Nicholas Andrew Harrison of the home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 30, at Olympus Cemetery in Grove with Pastor Phillip Buck officiating.
Services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

GILBERT SHOTPOUCH
JAY, Okla. - Gilbert Shotpouch, age 67, of Jay, died Sunday, September 22, 2002 at his home after a sudden illness. The son of Byrd and Mary (Buzzard) Shotpouch, he was born on August 28, 1935 in Zena, Okla. Gilbert was a full blood member of the Cherokee Tribe. He worked as a ranch hand for Dexter Moss and later at Lyon's Ranch. His parents and three brothers, Dale, Elmer, and Mike, preceded him in death.
Surviving are five nieces and four nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, at the Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Gilbert will be taken home on Wednesday for a wake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

MAE CHAPMAN SISK
TWIN OAKS, Okla. - Funeral services for Mae (Chapman) Sisk, of Twin Oaks, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Kansas, Okla., with Brother John Crowley officiating. Burial will follow at the Kansas Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Carroll, Nathan Heald, Todd Dingler, Dan Pomeroy, Mike Plunkett and Daryl Carroll.
Mae (Chapman) Sisk was born to Roy and Ollie (Langley) Chapman on October 24, 1918, in Wauhillau, Okla., and departed this life Wednesday, December 11, 2002, in West Siloam Springs, Okla., after reaching the age of 84 years, 1 month and 17 days.
Mae and Fred Sisk were joined in marriage in 1934 in Washington State.
Mae was a retired merchant.
Her loving husband, Fred, both parents and seven brothers preceded her in death.
Mae is survived by: three daughters, Bobbie and husband, Gene Carroll, of Kansas, Okla., Mary and husband, Lyman Dingler, of Twin Oaks, and Flora Mae and husband, Allen Heald of Siloam Springs, Ark.; two brothers, Gene Chapman of Kansas City, Kan., and Josh Chapman of Benton, Ark.; one sister, Helen Williams of Colcord, Okla.; five grandchildren, Paula Pomeroy and husband, Dan, of Houston, Texas, Brian Carroll and wife, Jennifer, of Tulsa, Okla., Krystal and husband, Mike Plunkett, of Sand Springs, Okla., Todd and wife, Jean Dingler, of Council Grove, Kan., Nathan Heald of Siloam Springs; five great-grandchildren, Ellen Kate Pomeroy of Houston, Caleb Heald of Siloam Springs, Connor Carroll of Tulsa, Jamison Dingler of Council Grove, Cooper Plunkett of Sand Springs; as well as many other friends and loved ones.

LOUELLA SIXKILLER
JAY, Okla. - Louella Sixkiller, 77, died on Friday, August 2, 2002 at Siloam Springs Hospital after a short illness. Louella Sixkiller was born in Delaware County, Okla., to Jennie Owens and Rufus Sixkiller. She was a longtime resident of Kansas, Okla., where she raised her two daughters. She retired as a laborer from Allen Canning Company in Siloam Springs, Ark., after 13 years, and then went to work for the Kansas Public Schools as custodian for a short period of time.
She is survived by: one daughter, Donice Torralba; three grandchildren, Louandra (Sunshine) Backward, and Kyle and Colten Torralba, of the home; two sons, George Lee Mouse and family, Chewey Okla., and Bobby Lee Mouse and family, Tahlequah, Okla.; one sister, Minnie Foreman; one brother, Taylor Sixkiller; one half sister, Ruth; stepchildren, Susie Whaler, Laura Mae Bird, J.W. Whaler and Harold Dean Whaler and families; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and friends and neighbors.
Louella was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Deanna (Sandy) Backward, her mother, Jennie Owens, father, Rufus Sixkiller, two brothers, Claude and Jim Sixkiller, one sister, Myrtle Sixkiller, one half brother, Leroy Sixkiller, one half sister, Ella Mae Sixkiller, Wattie Whaler, with whom she had been joined, and his son, Archie.
Graveside services will held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Clouds Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Derek Smith, Charlie Davis, Kandall Colston, Joe Osage, Mike Sanders, Clayton Blossom and Keegan Jackson. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, Okla.

RAYMOND O. SKINNER
MIAMI, Okla. - Raymond O. Skinner, 87, of Miami, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Osborne Care and Rehab after an illness.
Mr. Skinner was born April 6, 1915 in Wyandotte, Okla., to Otis and Jessie (Marshall) Skinner. He grew up in Fairland before moving to California, returning to Miami in May of 2000. Mr. Skinner worked in insurance sales and for SW Greyhound in Tulsa before retiring.
Survivors include: two sons; Raymond Skinner, Jr. of Richardson, Texas, and Charles Robert Skinner, of Pescadero, Calif.; daughter, Cherry Ann Kirk of San Jose, Calif.; brother, Charles B. Skinner of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Three sisters preceded him in death.
At Mr. Skinner's request, his body will be cremated and no services are planned at this time. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

MICHELE LYNN SLOAN
JAY, Okla. - Michele Lynn Sloan, age 32, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Grove. Michele was born at Gravette, Ark., on November 4, 1969 to Frank Hutchison and Lillian (Scroggins) Hutchison. Michele attended and graduated from school at Jay in 1988, and later married Gary Sloan in 1989, and had two children, one daughter, Abby, and one son, Jarod. Michele was employed at McDonald's at Grove since December 1994, where she was general manager. Michele is a member of the Southside Church of Christ of Jay.
Survivors include: her husband, Gary Sloan, of the home; one daughter, Abby of the home; one son, Jarod of the home; one step-daughter, Cassandra Sharp of Jay; parents, Frank and Lillian Hutchison of Jay; one sister, Brittany Hutchison of Jay; one brother, Frank Hutchison of Silver Spring, Md.; and a host of family and friends.
Family visitation will be Thursday, May 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay. Services will be Friday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at the Southside Church of Christ in Jay with Steve Stenzel officiating. Michele will be laid to rest at Duffield Cemetery in Jay. Services are under the direction of the Turner Funeral Home in Jay.

MARY JANE SMITH
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Mary Jane Smith died at her home Sunday, August 25, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She was 55. She was born to Lysle and Zelma Wethey Chandler at Afton, Okla., on November 5, 1946. She worked in housekeeping for Vista Towers at Monkey Island. She married Roy A. Smith on October 22, 1981. She had lived in Miami prior to moving to Fairland 15 years ago. She was a member of the House of Prayer Church.
She is survived by: her parents, Lysle and Zelma Chandler of Afton; her husband, Roy, of Fairland; two sons, Billy Joe Smith of the home, and Tommy Smith of Grove; four daughters, Misty Dawn Smith of the home, Sherry Bingham and husband, Scott, of Indiana, Teresa Schmidt of Neosho, and Melinda McAfee and husband, Jake, of Fairland; one brother, Russell Chandler and wife, Molly, of Afton; three sisters and their husbands, Doris and Florian Lucky of Fairland, Zella and Darrel Blevins of Afton, and Lavern and Leroy Bickford of Dyersburg, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, at Adcock Funeral Home Chapel in Fairland with Rev. Tom Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phillip Mattingly, Brian Schmidt, Rusty Wallin, Jeremy Wolfberger, Mike Lockner and Jason Carlin.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Adcock Funeral Home.

MAURICE BOYD SMITH
HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Maurice Boyd Smith, age 89, of Hutchinson died Tuesday, January 15, 2002. He was born on June 9, 1912 to Homer and Clara May Hill Smith in Turpin, Okla. He graduated from the Hutchinson Community College and was a longtime resident of Hutchinson. He retired as the owner-operator of the former Blackburn Cleaners in Hutchinson. He played in several local bands, was a longtime member of the Hutchinson Municipal Band, having played in 50 Christmas parades with the band. He was also a member of the Wichita Musicians Association, and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
On March 5, 1935 he married Kathryn Rachel Cain in Albuquerque, N.M. She preceded in death on July 5, 2000.
Survivors include: one son, Warren D. Smith, of South Hutchinson; two brothers, Adair Smith of Grove, and H.L. Smith of Norman, Okla.; one sister, Helene Jayroe of Laverne, Okla.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Friday, January 18, at 11 a.m. at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson. Pastor James C. Francis officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. The interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson. Visitation is Thursday, January 17, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mortuary.
