ABRAHAM HARVEY ZWAHLEN
GROVE - Abraham Harvey Zwahlen, age 78, of Grove, died at 7:25 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2002 in the Grove General Hospital after an illness.
The son of Archibald Levi Zwahlen, Sr. and Gerda George Zwahlen, Abraham was born April 4, 1923 in Service, Kan. He married Viola Marie Griffitt February 13, 1943 in Picher, Okla. She survives of the home. He is a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corp from 1943-1946. He and Viola moved to McCune, Kan., in 1949 where they lived until 1992, when they moved to Grove.
Harvey retired from Kansas Gas & Electric Co. in 1986 after 44 years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion in Columbus, Kan., and Grove. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include: his wife, Viola, of the home; his mother, Gerda Zwahlen of the Autumn Place in Columbus, Kan.; his mother-in-law, Maud Griffitt of Hallowell; one son, Dennis Zwahlen and wife, Mary, of Wyandotte, Okla.; two daughters, Brenda Parsons and husband, Charles, of McCune, and Dixie Alvord and husband, Robert, of Owasso, Okla.; one brother, Jerroll Zwahlen of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Betty Wagner of Grove, and Dorothy Brock of Galena, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Van Dorn, Kelley Farrell, Katrina Fox, Kevin Alvord, Jennifer Henry, Jeromy Zwahlen and Jackie Bandy; and 16 great-grandchildren, Randy, Kristal, Summer, Will, Andrew Van Dorn, Jared Farrell, Gage and Baylie Fox, Abigail and Simon Alford, Kyle Henry, Angel, Suzanna and Zwahlen, and Haley and Alexander Bandy.
He was preceded in death by his father, one son, David Harvey Zwahlen, a grandson, Joshua Farrell, and three brothers, Emery, Bill, and Archibald "Junior" Zwahlen.
Funeral service were at 10 a.m. Monday, March 4, at the Murdock Funeral Home, 123 East Pine, Columbus, with Reverend Eric Hurd officiating. Military graveside services were conducted by the American Legion Keith Reeves Post #3. Burial was in the McKee Cemetery northwest of Columbus.

ROBERT EARL ZWINGLE
Graveside services for Robert Earl Zwingle, age 88, formerly of Chickasha, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Chickasha. Rev. Larry Jacobson officiated.
Mr. Zwingle was born the son of Robert A. Zwingle and Blanche Mullican Zwingle on August 17, 1913 in McMinnville, Tenn. He died Saturday, February 16, in Mt. Vernon, Mo.
He married Sylvia Van Schuyver on September 23, 1933, in Chickasha. He was a member of the Vinita First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; three brothers, John, Ross, and George; three sisters, Josie Cope, Cleo Taylor, and Willie Etta Van Schuyver; and his parents.
Survivors include: two daughters and son-in-laws, Welena Wadley and Roger of Grove, and Scherry Cone and William of Tuscon, Ariz.; sister, Nadine Phillips of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Services were under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home in Chickasha.

ESTHER ABSHER
Grove, Okla. - Esther Absher, 52, died Friday, October 10, 2003 at her home in Grove. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at the House of David located at New Life Church with Pastor Tim Ausbaugh and Pastor Janet Lay officiating. Burial will follow at Olympus Cemetery.
Esther Absher was born on March 20, 1951 in Jerusalem, Israel to Ovadia and Naomi (Ovadia) Levy. She was married to Harold W. Absher on March 23, 1992 in Miami, Okla. Esther had lived in Delaware County for eleven years and was a member of the House of David.
Survivors include her husband, Harold of Grove; one son, Tony Wewermann of Miami, Fla.; two sisters Sema Ovadia and Alma Hazeel, both of Jerusalem.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, Okla.

VERA LEONA ADAIR
GROVE, Okla. - Vera Leona Adair, 88, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Grove General Hospital.
Vera Adair was born on July 7, 1914 in Anderson, Mo., to Clarence Franklin and Hettie Emeline (Johnson) Sala. She was married to Cecil Ross Adair. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1981. Mrs. Adair was a long-time Monkey Island resident She worked as a cook for Tera Miranda and Port Duncan. She loved art and was a painter and woodworker. She also loved gardening. Mrs. Adair attended Bernice Baptist Church.
Survivors include four children, Nolan Adair of Tulsa, Donna Adair of Monkey Island, Carrol Martin of Afton and Vera Lorene Adair of Grove; five brothers and sisters, Ernest Sala, Delphia Roberts of Fairfax, Audine Brown of California, Georgia Dixon of Jay, June Sala of Pryor; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Adair in 1985, and a brother, Joe Sala in 2002.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

ALMEDA BELL "SPARKIE" ADAMS
GROVE, Okla.- Almeda Bell "Sparkie" Adams, 86, died Monday, December 16, 2003 at Integris Grove General Hospital.
Almeda Adams was born on May 9, 1917 in Rosedale, Mo. She was a beautician for sixty five years with licenses in California, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. She moved to Monkey Island, Okla. in 1959 and then to the Hickory Grove area in 1968. She was a foster parent for many years.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Adams of Grove and many foster children. She was preceded in death by one son, Randal J. Dechant in 1995.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at Community of Christ with Nolan Scarberry officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

HAROLD D. ADAMSON
MIAMI, Okla. -Harold D. Adamson of Miami, died at 11:50 p.m., Wed., Jan. 29, 2003 at Osborne Care and Rehab, Miami. He was 87.
Adamson was born on Nov. 11, 1915 in Sedgwick, Kan. to Earl Marcellus and Claudia Beatrice (Edgington) Adamson. He attended schools in Sedgwick and graduated from Sedgwick High School, Sedgwick, Kan. in 1933. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairland, Okla. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge and the Optimists Club, both in Newton, Kan. He served on the U.S.S. William P. Biddle as a Seaman First Class in the U. S. Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1945.
He worked for Brooker Motor Co. and co-owned a Firestone store in Newton. Also while in Newton he was the store manager for B. F. Goodrich for four years and owned a Skelly Gas Station for several years. He moved to Tulsa, Okla. and worked as a construction supervisor for Skelly Oil Co. He worked for Chas. Davis on the Davis Ranch at Monkey Island, Okla. In 1970 he moved to Miami where he owned and operated the Townsman Restaurant from 1972 to 1981. After retirement he traveled extensively.
He married Betty Anteunis on May 20, 1969 in Fayetteville, Ark. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: one son, David Earl Adamson and his wife, Linda, of Broken Arrow; four daughters and their husbands, Judith Marguerite and Ronald Calbert of Newton, Kan., Dorothy Elaine and Steve Dow of Parker, Colo., Carol Joan and Jim Guerra of Platte City, Mo., Pamela Rae and Kenneth Bartley of Sand Springs, Okla.; two step-daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Larry Gray of Fairland, Vera and John Carsten of Edmond, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four step-grandsons; and one step-great-granddaughter.
One brother, Keith Adamson, and one sister, Helen McGinn, preceded Adamson in death.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., on Fri., Jan. 31, at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sat., Feb. 1, at the First Christian Church in Fairland with Minister Brian Giebler officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David L. Adamson, Adam Bartley, Darin Calbert, Eric Calbert, Aaron Dow, Todd Dow, Greg Logan, John Carsten, Jr., Travis Fox, and Thomas Milner. Honorary pallbearers will be Michelle Adamson, Aleces Bartley, Jessica Bartley, Vicki Kolbenski and Carol Lowery.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church Youth Group of Fairland and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

MARY ANN ALEXANDER
Mary Ann Alexander, a resident of Oklahoma for one hundred and two years has gone to meet her Lord, on October 6, 2003 at the Craig General Hospital, in Vinita, Okla. Mrs. Alexander was born on February 26, 1901 to John and Rosa (Smith) Stephenson at Ketchum, Okla.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by a sister, Maxine Nicely, three nephews, Clyde Eugene (Gene) Richardson, George Orville (Red) Holt, and Dick Nicely, two nieces, Sue Ann Nicely and Margie Goss, and special friend, Diane Peticord. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Mildred Collins, and four brothers Jack, Bill, Paul , and Charlie Stephenson.
Mrs. Alexander went to school in Ketchum, Okla, and she lived in Ketchum and Spavinaw, Okla. all of her life until June 1999 when she broke her hip and went into a Nursing Home in Vinita. She was the oldest living citizen of Spavinaw, and she was the oldest living member of the Cherokee Nation.
Mrs. Alexander spent her life caring for her home and other people. She would go and sit with the elderly who were alone. She was always ready to help, and she was well liked by everyone who met her. When she passed away, she took a lot of knowledge and history with her, more than most of us will every know.
Mrs. Alexander will lie in state at the Turner Funeral Home in Langley, Okla. until her funeral on Friday, October 10, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Spavinaw Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Turner Funeral Chapel.
Rest well Mary Ann for you have truly earned the right.

ELMER "MAC" ALLEN
JAY, Okla - Elmer "Mac" Allen, 70, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa.
Mac Allen was born on March 23, 1933, in Colcord, Okla., to Arch Daniel and Beulah Mae (Blair) Allen. He married Jane Owmbey on November 30, 1950. He had lived in the Jay area since 1963, moving from Stockton, Calif. He was the owner of Allen's Texaco since 1971. Mr. Allen was involved with children's programs in the area, coaching Little League baseball and independent baseball leagues. He played country western music. Mr. Allen was the Mayor of Jay from 1967 to 1973.
Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Jay; one son, Barry Allen and wife, Leona of Jay; seven grandchildren and ten great granchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Marty Allen, in 1982.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2002, at First Assembly of God, Jay, with Rev. Loyd Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Mose Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, May 9 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, Okla.

NICHOLAS J. AMENDOLARA
GROVE, Okla. - Nicholas J. Amendolara, 53, died Thursday, April 24, 2003 at Integris Grove General Hospital.
Nicholas John "Nick" Amendolara was born on March 27, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the beloved son of Danota Amendolara and Florence (Ianone) Amendolara. He was employed by M&M Construction.
Nick is survived by four children, Nicholas Amendolara of Portland, Ore., Rebecca Peraz of Rancho, Calif. and Adrianne Amendolara and Aaron Amendolara, both of Grove; one sister, Madaline Drumright of Grove; and three brothers, Danny Amendolara, Carl Amendolara and Tom Amendolara, all of Grove; his parents, Danota and Florence Amendolara of Grove; and three grandchildren, Ashlynn, Dominic and Jordan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole Amendolara.
Memorial services were held Monday, April 28, at the Cornerstone Church, Grove, with Pastor Wes Schoel officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

ALBERT A. ARMSTRONG
FAIRLAND, Okla. - Albert A. Armstrong, a resident of Fairland, formerly of Wichita, Kan. died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at his residence in Fairland after an extended illness. He was 78 years of age. The body will be cremated and a memorial service is being scheduled for a later date. Arrangements are pending with the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.

TOMMY J. ARMSTRONG
GROVE - Funeral services for Dr. Tommy J. Armstrong, 70, of Grove will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Grove with Rev. James Wilder officiating. Burial will follow at Buzzard Cemetery.
Family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday, March 24 at Ellis Funeral Home in Grove.
Dr. Armstrong was born July 6, 1932 to Tom and Teresa (McClelland) Armstrong on a farm southwest of Seneca, Mo. on Old Cayuga Road. He died Saturday March 22, 2003 at Integris Grove General Hospital.
Dr. Armstrong graduated from the eighth grade at North Number 8 Rural School. He attended and graduated from Wyandotte High School with the class of 1950. He attended summer school in Tahlequah and began teaching at Westview Consolidated Schools that fall. He continued his education and graduated from Northeastern A&M College in Miami, Okla. in 1959. He immediately began his Master's Degree work and completed it in 1962. He then began his graduate work and completed his Doctorate in 1964. He continued his education and completed four additional Master's Degrees.
Dr. Armstrong became principal of Westview Consolidated School in 1957 after completing a tour of duty with the U.S. Army. In 1959, he developed heart problems and went to Fairland as a sixth grade teacher. One year later, he became elementary school principal at Fairland. He served as a counselor at Seneca High School for the 1964-65 term. In 1965, he accepted a promotion and assigned to the Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C. He was assigned to the Field Technical Unit as an Education Specialist at the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah.
Dr. Armstrong and others were instrumental in opening the new multi-million dollar Indian school on the Navajo Reservation. He was assigned the task of teaching English as a second language. Having a background in music, he combined the two and soon young Navajos were speaking and singing in English. In 1967, he took 50 of his advanced students on a concert tour of the east which ended in Washington, D.C. His next position was in special education pilot program.
Dr. Armstrong and Mal Goodfellow owned funeral homes, and he also began the Boardertown Dormitory Program. He and his staff provided a home for students who attended public schools at Aztec, N.M.
In 1979, Dr. Armstrong suffered a massive stroke, and after three years of therapy, braces and other devices, it was difficult to tell he had once been an invalid.
When Dr. Armstrong retired, he was an education specialist for the BIA, vice president of Cope Memorial Chapels and Memory Gardens Inc., and president of Armstrong-Goodfellow Inc. of Gallup, N.M.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Grove and a member of the sanctuary choir. He served as minister of music for several churches and was the recipient of the three superior performance awards, two special acts awards and meritorious service award for upon his retirement.
Survivors include a brother, Kenneth Armstrong, of Wyandotte; a foster brother, Mal C. Goodfellow of Grove; a foster daughter, Drenda L. Cox of Grove; six foster sons, Douglas G. Cox, M.D. and Rick Bronson, both of Grove, Jerry Malach and Kelly Wilson, both of Collinsville and David and Rusty Stumpff, both of Tulsa. Also surviving are Mal's sons, Byron and Dwight Goodfellow, both of Denver, Colo.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Gospel Gals Missionary Group of the First Christian Church in Grove, the Sanctuary Choir of the First Baptist Church of Grove or the Cherry Red Hospital Auxiliary of Grove General Hospital.
