Smith

Gale Richard Smith, 63, Olustee, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Edwin Wiginton II officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery at Mangum. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

He was born March 10, 1937 in Crystal Valley, Mich. to William and Mildred (Whitaker) Smith. He married Twyla Parnell June 14, 1958 in Vernon, Texas.

He entered the United States Air Force July 1, 1955 and retired as a Tech Sergeant on Aug.1, 1975. He was later employed at McPherson Ford, Jim Click Chevrolet, and Lloyd Smith's L&B Auto. He retired from the civil service in 1996.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olustee and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Headrick.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie M. Smith; six children, Ricki Smith and wife Ruby, Frank Erward and wife Patty, Randy Smith and wife Andrea all of Altus, William Smith and wife Amanda, Steven Grayson all of Olustee, Michael Grayson and wife Gloria of Blair; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Don Hanson of Hart, Mich. and Shirley and Cliff Jablonski of Rochester Hills, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Twyla Smith; one brother, Russell Smith.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. today at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Olustee First Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Gale Richard Smith.

Sprague

Opal Marguerite Sprague of Dallas, died Saturday, March 11, 2000. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Russell Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service of Hollis.

Sprague was born June 28, 1919, in Russell County, Oklahoma, to Minnie and Jessie Meason. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the International Accountants Society since 1967. A lifelong Baptist, she was a member of the Midway Baptist Church.

Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Holt Temple of Rowlett, Texas; a daughter, Mae Beth Whaley of Irving, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Diane Sprague of Carrollton, Texas; grandchildren, Scott Temple, Alissa Cooper of San Antonio, Texas, Jimmy Whaley of Sanger; and John Roy Sprague of Carrollton and great grandchildren, Nolan Temple and Dylan Whaley.

Tabb

Juanita Ruth Tabb, 69, Altus, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Graveside services are set for Friday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Altus City Cemetery with Sonny Tims officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Tabb was born Sept. 12, 1930, at Altus, to Walter C. and Mable Mott Chenault. She attended school in Altus.

She owned and operated Shirlinta's Cafe that was located in the Franklin Hotel for several years. She worked at Jackson County Memorial Hospital as a certified nurse's aide on the obstetrics floor. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Duke.

Tabb was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, W.C. Chenault.

Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Coffey and husband Woodrow of Duke; one brother, Bobby Chenault of Wichita Falls, Texas; two sisters, Christine Morrison and Mildred Halcomb, both of Altus; one granddaughter, Wendy Coffey of Duke; one great granddaughter, Destiney Osborn, also of Duke.

Watson

Vera A. Watson, 77, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Quartz Mountain Care Center in Altus. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Vera Alice Southall was born July 20, 1922, in Blair to William Albert and Mary Etta (White) Southall. She attended school in Midway in Greer County. She married William Howard Watson on Nov. 16, 1961, in Vernon, Texas. She was a homemaker and her hobby was spending time with her children and grandchildren and working word search puzzles. She was a member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ, and served as a volunteer at the Southwest Transit, Red Cross and Head Start programs.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a grandson, Nicholas Snodgrass; three sisters, Clara Inzer, Effie Winters and Oleta Haynes; and three brothers, Peyton, Luke and Alva Southall.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Alice and Larry Myers, Shirley and Darrell Norton and Willa Mae Snodgrass all of Altus; a son George Crafton, Altus; three sisters, Bethie Kelly, Fort Valley, Ga., Nellie Markum, San Juan Capistrano, Calif. and Doyle Norton, Mira Loma, Calif.; two brothers, Cecil Southhall, Madera, Calif. and Windle Southall, Blair; four grandchildren, Billy Norton and wife, Summer of Altus, Christopher Crafton and wife Penny, Amarillo, Texas; Sean Norton, Corpus Christi, Texas, Alan Snodgrass, Altus and three great-granchildren.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Altus Dialysis Center at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Weathers

Rodney Joe Weathers, 36, Blair, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the Navajo Cemetery with Dick Weathers officiating. Services are under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf.

Weathers was born Jan. 16, 1964, in Vanhorn, Texas, to John Joe and Ethel Mae (Jacobs) Weathers. He attended school in Tahoka, Texas.

He moved to Blair in 1982 and worked for McMaster Construction of Oklahoma City for 10 years. He was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include: his mother, Ethel, of Blair; one brother, Mike W. Weathers, also of Blair and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Navajo Cemetery.

Wood

Verna Lucille Wood, 94, died Saturday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services for Verna Wood will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Altus City Cemetery. Arrangements are with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

She was born July 23, 1905, in Dodge City, Kan. to Roy Edward and Minnie (Shelley) Wood. She lived most of her life in San Francisco and Oakland, Calif. area most of her life where she worked as an executive director for Equitable Life Assurance.

After retiring in the early 1970's, she traveled extensively in Europe and studied Eastern religions. Her other hobbies included reading and studying other cultures. She was a member of Chapter CM of PEO and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two nieces, Verna Taylor of Altus and Shirley Lohse of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two nephews, Jon Shively of Ogden, Utah and Roy Wood, of Denver; three great-nephews and five great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Maynard Wood and a sister, Elma Shively.

Youngblood

Lucille Youngblood, 83, died this morning at Deaconess Hospital in Ayer, Mass. Funeral services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Allen

Ophia Orena Allen, 94, Altus, died Friday at English Village Manor in Altus. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Jones, and the Rev. James Mahan officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

She was born May 24, 1905 in Utica (Indian Territory) to James Edgar and Linnie Maude (Williams) McMennamy. She married Otis Dee Allen Nov. 6, 1924, in Durant. He died Oct. 16, 1999.

She lived in the Jackson County area for more than 70 years. She was homemaker and her hobbies included cooking, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. She was a long time member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Altus and the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis; her parents; an infant son; a daughter, Reta Sherman; a brother, Milburn McMennamy; and three sisters, Dessie Crossland, Lera Taylor, and Tressie Brown.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Letha Allen of Odessa, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Norma and Joe Adair of Wichita Falls, Texas and Peggy Adelman of Smyrna, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Orilla Glenn of Altus; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and special friends, Hattie and DeWitt Heim..

The family will have visitation at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday.

Bell

Leslie Cleon Bell, 87, Mangum died at the Mangum City Hospital Monday after a lengthy illness. Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mangum Church of Christ with Eddie Beard officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service.

He was born April 27, 1912 at Mangum to Leslie and Mary (Regian) Bell. He married Mildred Wright July 3, 1938 at Hugo. He lived most of his life in the Mangum area and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Kennith Kirby of Granite, Carroll and Hulon Kyle of Mangum; a son, Darroll Bell of Mangum; a brother, Cloyce Bell; grandchildren, Sharon and Randel Terry, Kevin and Nancy Kirby, Doug and Kathy Kyle, Cindy and Danny Higbee.

Cannady

Jewel Cannady, Oklahoma City, formerly of Mangum died Monday at the Baptist Retirement Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 82. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mangum Church of Christ with Eddie Beard officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery at Mangum under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.

She was born Oct. 24, 1917 to W.J. and Lena (Davis) Holcomb in Kenefic, Okla. She married Hassel "Hack" Cannady June 7, 1942, in Mangum. She was a clerk and bookkeeper at C.R. Anthony in Mangum and Hobart for 15 years. Her hobby was playing "42" at the community center with her friends. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Mangum.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dwight Rosenbaum of Oklahoma; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alvin and Marion Cannady of Carson City, Nev. and Doyle Cannady of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandsons, Gregg Cannady of Dallas, Grant Rosenbaum of Norman and Dayton Cannady of Littler Rock, Ark. and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, W.J. Holcomb; her mother, Lena Holcomb; her husband, Hack Cannady; a brother, Joe Holcomb; and two sisters, Bessie Laminack and Virgie Coatney.

Carrick

Jan Carrick, 69, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Harmon County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Clem Dozer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Funeral Services of Hollis.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the elevator fund at the First United Methodist Church of Hollis.

Carrick was born July 8, 1930, in Hollis, to Garland Motley and Thelma Hart Motley. She attended Hollis Schools, Stephens College and graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1952. She was a teacher for two years at Wichita Falls, Texas and Plainview, Texas, before she married J.A. Carrick in Hollis on Feb. 27, 1955.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women's Organization, and the 51 Sorosis Club. She began her career in 1965, and became a well-known artist who showed her paintings in two galleries in Oklahoma City and had a showing honoring her at Rose State College. She made several cultural art tours to New York, San Francisco, New Mexico and Arizona. Sen. David Boren and Gov. George Nigh were among the many encouraging customers she had. She was invited to show her paintings at the State Capitol Rotunda for several years. Several area artists have attended art classes with her.

She is survived by her husband, J.A., of the home; one son, Gary and his wife Cindy of Collierville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jordan and one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Betty Motely of Hollis.
