ROBERT WILLIAM HAAS
Robert William Haas, age 78, died June 19, 2003 at the Grove Nursing Center. He was born November 7, 1924 and was the son of William Haas and Mary Edith Hinshaw Haas at Preston, Kan. They married on October 1949 to Marjorie Lea Moffat at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Natrona, Kan.
Haas was a retired lineman, mail carrier, and farmer he lived in the Pratt area over 50 years, Canon City, Colo. from 1991 to 2000, then in Grove since April 2000. He served in the Army as a PFC in the 108th infantry in the Philippines in 1944 and 1945. Is a lifetime member of the Kinsley Gun club and belongs to the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Grove.
Survivors are wife Marjorie and son David and wife Karen of Grove. Son Kenneth and wife Connie of Lamar, Colo. grand children Jimmy and Jennifer Haas of Lamar, Colo. Step grandchildren Chris and Kelli Morrison of Grove. Sister Dorothea and Ray Wiltshire of Pratt, Kan. Sister Lois and Wayne Larson of Oberlin, Kan. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Grove and Pratt Library, Pratt, Kan. Funeral at St. Pauls Lutheran Church at Preston, Kan. at 10 a.m. , Monday, June 23.

GLENN C. HALE
GROVE, Okla. - Glenn C. Hale, 86-year old Grove resident, died early Monday, March 24, 2003, at Grove Nursing Center. He was born August 28, 1916, in Mindenmines, Mo. to Grover Cleveland and Bertha (Sterling) Hale.
After high school he began work as a teller and bookkeeper at Barton County State Bank in Lamar, Mo. In 1938 he and June Cowgill were married in Lamar. Glenn served two years in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After his return home he continued working in the Lamar bank until 1948 when he moved the family to Chillicothe, Mo. to serve as Vice President and a director of Chillicothe State Bank.
In 1950 he returned to Lamar and farmed until 1956 when he accepted a position with First National Bank in Vinita. He was with the First National until his retirement in 1979 as vice president and director. He was active in the Methodist Church, Lion's Club, Salvation Army and Red Cross, where he was an 8-gallon blood donor.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry C. Hale and Maurice B. Hale.
He is survived by his wife, June of the home; one daughter, Linda and husband, Louie Stevens of Bernice, Okla.; two sisters, Mildred Diggs of Lamar and Gladys Stevens of Blacksburg, Va.; one sister-in-law, Lois Hale of Lee's Summit, Mo.; three grandchildren, Becky Blake of Claremore, Okla., Jeff Stevens of Wallington, Kan. and Craig Stevens of Tulsa. Six great-grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. in the chapel at Luginbuel Funeral Service of Vinita. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, in the Luginbuel Chapel with Rev. Charles Herndon of First United Methodist Church of Vinita officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Vinita, or the Vinita chapter of the American Red Cross.

MILDRED HARRIS
GROVE - Mildred Harris, 95, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at Grove Nursing Center.
Mildred Harris was born on September 8, 1908, in Morehead, Kan. to Jesse and Florence (Smith) Clemnes. She attended Cherryvale, Kansas High School and graduated from Independence, Kansas Junior College and Baker University of Baldwin, Kan., with a B.A. Degree in Education. She married Cecil Harris on September 28, 1928. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1996. Mrs. Harris taught for a short time in Montana and then for Turner School District of Kansas City, Kan., where she taught fourth grade before retiring in 1972. She was a member of Pomme De Terre United Methodist Church of Hermitage, Mo. She had lived in Grove for one year, coming from Lenexa, Kan.
Survivors include three sons, Bill Harris and wife Joyce of Grove, Bud Harris and wife Vicki of Gardner, Kan. and Steve Harris of Overland Park, Kan.; two daughters, Joan Fortino of Tampa, Fla. and Jean Brandenburg and husband Paul of San Carlos, Calif.; two sisters, Virginia McAlister of Burlington, Kan. and Patty Cramer of Scotts Valley, Calif.; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2003 at Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee, Kan. with Rev. Bill Leat officiating.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

AMANDA ELIZABETH HAMBY
JAY, Okla. - Amanda Elizabeth Hamby, 92, a life-long resident of Delaware County, left her mortal life to join her Lord on October 11, 2003, at Monroe Manor in Jay.
Mrs. Hamby was born on March 2, 1911 to Jay and Nettie (Loftis) Phillips at Southwest City, Mo. Amanda attended school at Clouds Creek. In 1929 she married Elbert Hamby in Little Kansas, Okla. They were blessed with six sons.
Mrs. Hamby is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Glen and Carma, Bill and Rena and David and Phyllis Hamby, all of Jay; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters Ora Whitechurch of Picayune, Mich., and Anna Dobrinski of Depew, Okla; and one brother Jay Phillips of Jay.
Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Elbert Hamby, who died in 1982. Three sons Wayne, J.B. and Elbert Jr. Hamby also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hamby was a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and homemaker all her life. She will be loved always and missed forever.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 14, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hamby family Cemetery, with Sam Cooper speaking words of comfort.
Mrs. Hamby lay in state at Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay until Tuesday morning.
Funeral services were under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel.

NORMA RUTH HAMMONS
GROVE, Okla. - Norma Ruth Hammons of Grove died at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at the Betty Ann Nursing Center after a long illness. She was 88.
Mrs. Hammons was born at Mountain Home, Ark., to Walter and Dulcie (Greer) Wilson. She lived in Tulsa for many years before moving to Miami in 1981. She moved to Grove in 1995.
Mrs. Hammons graduated from Henryetta High School in 1933. She worked as a bookkeeper and co-owned and operated the Williams Printing Company and Central Printing Company in Tulsa for many years.
She married Edwin L. "Cub" Hammons, Sr. in September 1933 in Henryetta, Okla. He preceded her in death in October of 1981.
Mrs. Hammons was a member of the Christian Church in Henryetta.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Ed and Jean Hammons of Grove; brother Lawrence Lynn Wilson of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two grandchildren, Vicki Lewis and husband David of Miami, Okla. and Chip Hammons and wife Kristi of Miami; and three great-granddaughters, Kaci Lewis, Alyssa Hammons and Rylee Hammons.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 29, 2003, in the chapel of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Kay Bowman officiating. Burial followed at the G.A.R. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the NEO Development Foundation, Miami Public School Enrichment Foundations, or the donor's favorite charity.

WILLIAM B HAND (BILL)
GROVE - William B. Hane (Bill), 75 years old of Grove died February 19, 2003. Bill retired from American Airlines in 1987 after 34-1/2 years of service. No services are being held as Bill donated his body to the University of Oklahoma Science of Health Services. Memorials may be made to Good Shepard Hospice in Grove.

WOODROW LORENZ "WOODY" HANLEY
Woodrow Lorenz "Woody" Hanley, 90 year old Vinita resident passed away Thursday, February 20, 2003 at Rosewood Terrace Nursing Center.
Woody was born November 2, 1912, in Los Angeles, California. He was a painter by trade and was also retired from Los Angeles County Schools where he worked as a Lab Tech.
He was a past Grand Master of the Golden Trowel Masonic Lodge in Los Angeles and a member of the Almaleka Shrine, also in Los Angeles.
Woody was united in marriage to Ruth Evelyn Fleming on March 20, 1996 at Miami, OK.
Surviving family members include: his wife, Ruth Evelyn of the home, one son, Lee Hanley of Simi, CA, one step-son, William Lesley Fleming, Jr., two step daughters, Kimberly Ann Poesse of New Hampshire and Vickie Vuhen of Burbank, CA, two sisters, Violet Goff of Woodlands, TX, Mevlyn Knutsen of Sun City West, AZ. and two grandchildren, Shawn and Jason.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2003 at the Burckhalter Memorial Chapel. Rev. Henry Skip McClain will officiate. Interment will be in Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery.
Viewing hours will be from 1 p.m. till 5 p.m., Sunday, February 23.
Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

JAMES "J.B." HARRISON
James "J.B." Harrison, 73-year-old resident of Gentry, Ark., died June 25, 2003, at home. Born June 2, 1930, in Carnegie, Okla., he was the son of Elmer B. Harrison and Lessie Jewel Nance Harrison. J.B. was a lifetime resident of Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He married Martha Wolverton on August 31, 1985, in Rogers, Ark. J.B. was precede in death by one son, two daughters, and one sister.
Survivors include his wife Martha of the home; one son, Butch Harrison of Colcord; two step-sons, Vernon Wilcox of Conway, Ark, and Randy Mullen of the home; five daughters, Patsy Ann Jackson of Colcord; Karen Sue Hankins of Grove and Linda Dee Harrison of Colcord, Margaret Jackson of Rogers, Ark. and Sandra Lowe of Colcord; three step-daughter, Sandra McCoy of Georgia, Mary Lee Wilcox of Tahlequah, Claudia Smith of Fayetteville, Ark..; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Willie Harrison and Frankie and Larry Harrison, all of W. Siloam Springs, Okla.; four sisters, Margaret Ward of Siloam Springs, Louise Hammer of Watts,, Lillian Harrison of West Siloam Springs, and Bernice Hill of Siloam Springs and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 28, at Wasson Memorial Chapel, Siloam Springs, with Mr. Larry Ellis and Pastor Tim Estes officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Cemetery, near Watts, Okla. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

DELBERT EARL HECK
Delbert Earl Heck, Jr., 69, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003 at the Integris Hospital in Grove. Delbert was born on August 17, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Delbert E. Heck, Sr. and Maude Eleanor (Belt) Heck.
He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during The Korean War. Delbert married Doris Taylor on March 2, 1957 at Stilwell, Okla. To this union one son and two daughters were born. He was a truck driver most of his life, retiring from driving for Safeway Stores in 1987. For 35 years, he dearly loved and participated in Bluegrass Festival, playing the upright bass. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. Delbert was a man who enjoyed life, a wonderful family man who will be greatly missed by all whose life he touched.
A private memorial service was held by the family.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Taylor) Heck of the home; one son, Delbert Earl Heck, III of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Doris E. and her husband Doug Moore of Jay, Okla. and Rebecca S. Meier of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, James F. Heck of Springdale, Ark. and Thomas Wood of Kenosha, Wis.; two sisters, Florence Taylor of Grove and Doressa Pressler of Sandy, Ore.; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sally Bell.

DOVIE L. HELMS
Ponca City, Okla. - Dovie L. Helms, 88, longtime Ponca City resident, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at the Via Christi St. Joseph Regional Med. Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wed., Dec. 3 at the Hawks Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Interment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City, Kan.
A memorial has been established with the Good Samaritan Center in Winfield, Kan. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wed., Dec. 3 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.
Dovie was born on Oct. 15, 1915 in Grove, the daughter of Wiley and Nancy (Ketcher) Hanna. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cherokee Indian Tribe. As a young girl, Dovie's grandmother came to Oklahoma Indian Territory from N. Carolina in the "Trail of Tears".
Dovie's hobby was quilting, she loved to quilt. Her quilts are in homes throughout the U.S. She gave her quilts to family on birthdays, marriages and many many other special occasions.
Survivors include her sons Vern Helms, Jr. of Davenport, Okla., Leslie Caudill of Millsboro, Delaware, Darrell Caudill of Ponca City; her daughters Vivian Rhodd and Loyce Crow both of Winfield, Kan., and Pamela Howell of Ponca City; a special daughter-in-law Wanda Caudill of Grove; 20 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Dock Caudill and Vern Helms. Sr.; one son Charles Caudill; an infant daughter; one brother Claude Hanna; three sisters Rosie Seabourn, Annie Hollett and Ona Caudill; two grandchildren Terry and Timothy Caudill; one great granddaughter Lisa Marie Kidd.
Arrangements are by the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City, Kan.

MICHAEL E. HENDRIX
Michael E. Hendrix, 26, died Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at Integris Grove General Hospital. Michael was born on October 22, 1976 in Springdale, Arkansas to Terry Gayle and Deborah (Lawson) Hendrix.
He was a construction worker. He had lived in the area twelve years moving from Cave Springs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grove.
Survivors include his parents, Terry and Debbie Hendrix of Grove; three brothers, Terry Parker of Watts; Christopher Hendrix and Thomas Hendrix both of Grove; five sisters, Mary Beth Reese of Fayetteville, Neva Hendrix, Sarah Hendrix, and Holly Hendrix all of Grove. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. , Friday, October 3, 2003 at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Hamill officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , Thursday. Services are under the direction of Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Okla.
