CLAUDE “JUNIOR” McELHANY
Claude “Junior” McElhany, 72 of Quapaw, OK, died Monday, October 6, 2003 at Miami Nursing Center in Miami after an illness.
Mr. McElhany was born on April 16, 1931 in Wyandotte, OK to Dewey and Eva (Cunningham) McElhany. He was a tire builder at B.F. Goodrich for twenty-nine years and Ottawa County retiring in 1991. He also owned and operated a farm. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Peoria Assembly of God and the Bernice V.F.W.
He married Phyllis Jean Wright on October 20, 1954 at Miami, OK. She survives of the home.
Survivors include: his wife Phyllis Jean McElhany of the home; one son Curtis Roberts of Quapaw, OK; two daughters and husbands Belinda and Bill Rich of Broken Arrow, OK, Betty and Louis Labigang of Quapaw, OK; one brother and wife Lonnie and Bonnie McElhany of Miami, OK; six grandchildren Amber Roberts, Jim Cunningham, Rocki Tassin, Melisa, Mike and Steve Rich; four great-grandchildren.
His parents, daughter Carol Kerr, granddaughter Stoni Talley and a sister Vivian Knight preceded Mr. McElhany in death.
Private family services were held Wednesday, October 8, 2003 under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami, OK. Burial was in Council House Cemetery southeast of Wyandotte, OK.
The family has requested that Memorials be made to Regency Hospice in care of Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

HELEN MAY McGEHEE
JAY, Okla. - Helen May McGehee passed away on January 12, 2003, at the age of 80, at the St. John's Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. She was born April 6, 1922 to Oscar Qualls and Vera Qualls Carey in Waterford, Calif. She was a native of Calif. She went to school in California. She moved from Stockton, Calif. to Salenis, Calif. in 1956, where she lived most of her life. She then moved to Oklahoma in the year of 2000.
She is survived by: her husband, Claude McGehee, her children, Gary Vincelet of Redding, Calif., JoAnna King of Salenis, Donna Sepeda of Salenis and Becky Cohen of Blakstone, Mass. She has 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed helping baby-sit her great-grandchildren, who called her Grandma McGhee. She was a caregiver before she suffered a stroke. Her hobbies were reading and crocheting. In her former years she loved to ride in the truck. She loved her dogs, Chin and Brandy. She leaves behind many friends.
A service was held Thursday, January 15, at 2 p.m., at the Turner Funeral Chapel, of Jay. Services were under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel, Jay.

VIOLET DELORES (TURLEY) McKINZIE
MIAMI, Okla. -- Violet Delores (Turley) McKinzie, 90, of Miami died Monday, January 13, 2003 at Baptist Regional Health Center after an illness.
Mrs. McKinzie was born Oct. 17, 1912 in Bellville, Mo. to Lemuel and Reva Fern (Allman) Turley. She has lived in the Miami area most of her life. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. McKinzie married Charles Sylvester McKinzie on Sept. 2, 1933. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1958. She was also preceded in death by: her parents; two sons, Earnest Eugene and Jimmy Dale; grandson, Douglas Blair; sister, Daisy Gamble; and two brothers, Wilbur and Wayne Gale Turley.
Survivors include: daughters, Agnes Lloyd, of Miami and Shirley Hall, of Broken Arrow; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Jack Nickerson, of Miami and Cindy and Terry Harlan of Joplin, Mo.; sons and daughters-in-law; Charles and Ruth McKinzie of Wellington, Kan. and Kenneth and Gail McKinzie of Dittner, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Janna Beth McKinzie, of Castle Rock, Colo.; two brothers, Dale Turley, of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Willard Turley of Miami; and two sisters, Pansy Deweese of Odessa, Texas and Virginia Doty of Tucson, Ariz. Seventeen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, in the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, Rev. Junior Couch officiating. Burial will be held in the Welch Cemetery, west of Welch, under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
Pallbearers are her grandsons. Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation in care of the funeral home.

JOHN MAX MCKISICK
VINITA, Okla. - John Max McKisick, 69 year old lifetime area resident, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Craig General Hospital following a sudden illness.
John was born March 16, 1934, at Nowata, Okla. to C.V. "Bun" McKisick and Edith Mae (Cumiford) McKisick. John graduated from Vinita High School in 1952. He then attended the Southwestern State University School of Horology in Weatherford, Okla., graduating in 1954. He then returned to Vinita and worked in the family jewelry store from 1954-1956, then served in the United States Army from 1956-1958. After John got out of the Army, he came back to Vinita, at which time the jewelry store was moved to downtown Vinita where it operated for four years under his father's direction.
John was united in marriage to Susie Jane (Kay) Roberts on May 5, 1962, at Vinita. After his father's death in 1963, John and Sue took over the store which operated at 125 South Wilson until 1976 when it was moved to 103 South Wilson, where it is still located today.
John was a member of the Scottish Rite of Tulsa, Okla., the Vinita Masonic Lodge and the Akdar Shrine. He was past director of the Scamps, Past President of: the Craig County Shrine Club, the Vinita Lions Club, the Vinita Youth Organization, the Vinita Chamber of Commerce, the First United Methodist Men, and the First United Methodist Church Board. He was past Vice President of the Vinita Jaycee's and had served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Retail Jewelers Association.
John was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Robert Vaughn McKisick and Billy Howard McKisick.
Surviving family members include: his mother, Edith Mae McKisick O'Gara of Vinita; his wife, Sue of the home; four sons, Gary Roberts and wife, Sharon of St. Charles, Mo., John L. Roberts of Skiatook, Okla., Ken Roberts and wife, Cher of Mustang, Okla., and Clay Vaughn McKisick and wife, Connie of Vinita; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Charles Herndon and Rev. Eugene Kay will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the home, located at 442433 E. 240 Road, Vinita, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18.
John was an avid supporter of the Red Cross Tissue and Organ Donation Program and the family would like to encourage people to become tissue and organ donors. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First United Methodist church or the Otterbein Methodist Church Parsonage.
Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

JOSEPH DALE "BUTCH" McKNIGHT Jr.
GROVE - Joseph Dale "Butch" McKnight, Jr. passed away on December 17, 2003. He was born on September 6, 1942 to Joseph and Velma McKnight.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Velma McKnight of Del City, Okla. as well as his brother, A.L. McKnight of Missoula, Mont.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl R. McKnight, of Grove, and son Shawn J. McKnight and wife Brandi and their children, Jarrod McKnight, and Cory and Britny Barnett. He is also survived by his daughter, Victoria R. Walden, her husband Shawn, and their son, Dakota. His sister-in-law, Lynda McKnight and brother-in-law Bobby Louthen, his wife Vickie, and their sons, Troy and Shane also survive him. Father and mother-in-law Leon and Dorotha Louthen are additional survivors along with many family and friends.
Memorial services will be held in his honor at Eisenhour Funeral Home, located at 5005 S.E. 29th St., Del City, Okla. on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date.

JAMES RUSSELL McMULLEN
ORLANDO, Fla. - James Russell McMullen, age 84, died Saturday, January 11, 2003 at the Florida Living Nursing Center. He was a Hospital Laboratory Technologist. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert E. McMullen and wife, Marilyn, of Orlando, and Richard J. McMullen of Harrah, Okla.; two grandchildren, Lynnette Brooks of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Timothy McMullen of Orlando; two brothers, Raymond W. McMullen and wife, Zora, of Exeter, Calif. and Leroy McMullen and wife, Alice, of Roswell, N.M.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 18, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at the Kiser Funeral Chapel, with Pastor David Sharpe officiating.
Pallbearers were Roger Draper, Dr. John Shaw, J.L. Gudger, Larry Haney, Paul Walter and Bill Hunter. Arrangements were under the Kiser Funeral Home Greeneville , Tenn.

BILLY RAY MELTON
Billy Ray Melton, 70, died Sunday, September 7, 2003 at Integris Grove General Hospital after a brief illness.
Billy Melton was born on July 23, 1933 in Cushman, Ark. to Dallas and Orvita (Hawkin) Melton. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving as a sergeant in the United States Air Force. He worked as a Civil Engineer for Boeing for thirty years. He also worked for Lockheed and McDonald-Douglas. Mr. Melton received numerous achievement awards for his invention that saved these companies money and improved operations and safety. He had lived in the Rose area for seventeen years moving from Everett, Wash. He was a member of the Unlimited Life Church in Muskogee.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis Melton and wife, Shannon of Okay, Okla., Matt Melton and wife, Patty of Morenci, Ariz. and Don Melton and wife Denise of Rose; two daughters, Lynn Dana of Thatcher, Ariz. and Cindy Beers; one brother, husband Bradford of Verdin, N.M.; twenty-two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three bothers and one wife.
Private family services will be held at a later date with burial in the family cemeteryin Show Low, Ariz. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

LUELLA MERIT
WELCH, Okla. - Luella Merit of Fairland, Okla., died at 8:30 p.m., January 9, 2003 at Welch Residential Care, Welch. She was 82.
Mrs. Merit was born December 24,1920, at Wyandotte, Okla. to Arthur and Mary Ellen (Barnhart) Brown and lived in this area most of her life. She had moved to the Hudson Creek area in 1955 from east of Miami, Okla. She was a housewife and homemaker.
Mrs. Merit was member of the Hudson Creek Baptist church WMU, and HCE Club, and the Hudson Baptist Church.
She married Reuben G. Merit on August 26, 1936, at Miami. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1997.
Survivors include: four sons, Clarence Merit, Fairland, Glen Merit and his wife, JoAnn, Miami, Morris Merit and his wife, Helen, Miami, and Ernest Merit and his wife, Judith, of Coon Rapids Iowa; a brother, Logan W. Brown, Miami; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday January 13, at the Hudson Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Dayringer officiating, assisted by Rev. Ron Murphy. Burial was in the Fairland Cemetery under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami.
Pallbearers were David Brown, Solon Bartley, Gale Brown, Larry Merit, Bryan Merit and Claude Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Waldron, Kenneth Handy, Marvin Gress, Ed Meyer, George Anderson and Wally Ellison.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hudson Creek Building fund or the Regency Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

DENNIS L. MESSIMORE
MIAMI, Okla. - Dennis L. Messimore, long-time resident of rural Afton, Okla., died at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami, Tuesday, March 11, 2003, after a short illness. He was 82. He was born June 8, 1920, at Fairland, Okla. to Eli and Ada Bartley Messimore. He graduated from Afton High School. Mr. Messimore served in the Army-Air Force from 1942 until 1944. He married Dortha Leona Seaton at Vinita on March 9, 1942. She preceded him in death November 6, 2001.
He worked as an aircraft mechanic for Douglas Aircraft and then for Spartan Aeronautics for 20 years. He also worked as a farmer and as a commercial fisherman on Grand Lake for 18 years. He moved his family back to the Afton area in 1945, from Tulsa, Okla. He loved his family and many more, showed by his time with Leona serving as foster parents for 19 children, plus being a temporary placement parent for the county children who needed help. He was a member of the Independent Odd Fellow Lodge, Canton #14 and Encampment #12.
He is survived by two daughters, Darlene Eastin of Collinsville, and Jean Hayes and husband, Russ of Afton; a sister, Della Armstrong, of Claremore, Okla.; four grandchildren, Robert Eastin of Glenpool, Okla., David Robertson of Collinsville, Amanda Reynolds and Misty Hayes, both of Afton; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Adcock Funeral Home in Afton, with Rev. Lysle Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, at Adcock Funeral Home in Afton.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home, Afton.

AUDREY M. MITCHELL
SOUTHWEST CITY, Mo. - Audrey M. Mitchell, 75, of Southwest City, Mo., died Monday, December 15, 2003, at 2:37 a.m. at Gravette medical Center Hospital in Gravette, Ark.
Audrey M. Mitchell was born on January 23, 1927 in Commerce, Okla., to the late Ralph and Bessie (Williams) Larkin. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Poyner Baptist Church in Southwest City, Mo.
She married Eugene Drake on July 29, 1943. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1984. She married Wayne Mitchell on July 4, 1996. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2003.
Survivors include three sons, Roy Drake and wife Karen of Siloam Springs, Ark., Max Drake and wife Connie of Joplin, Mo., Richard Drake and wife Susan of Pratt, Kans., one daughter Carolyn Bennett and husband JR of Noel, Mo., one brother, Carl Larkin and wife Barbara of Eucha, Okla., three sisters, Eula Mae Earwood of Springfield, Mo., Emiline Turner of Duenweg, Mo., and Pauline Larkin of Southwest City, Mo., stepchildren, Karen Wallgren and husband Joe, Mike Mitchell and Scott Mitchell all of Southwest City, Mo., fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held for Audrey M. Mitchell on Wednesday, December 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Mo. The Reverend Walt Neilsen will officiate. Burial will be in Southwest City Cemetery, in Southwest City.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City, Mo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Poyner Baptist Church in Southwest City, Mo. in care of the funeral home.
