SHIRLEY JEAN JONES PHILLIPS
Shirley Jean Phillips, age 68, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 10, 2003 at her home on Drowning Creek after a long battle with cancer.
Shirley was born July 11, 1935, to Benjamin and Mima Jones at Everton, MO. She spent most of her life in the Jay area attending Jay Public Schools and was a member of the 1953 graduating class. On February 14, 1953, she married Roy M. Phillips who survives of the home. After retiring, Shirley and Roy traveled extensively, spending most of the winters in Arizona. Shirley was loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include, her husband Roy M. Phillips, they shared 50 years of marriage. One daughter, Debra Adams of Jay, OK. Three sons and wives, Roy D. and Edith Phillips of Eagle Point, OR; Bill and Linda Phillips of Jay, OK, and Rick and Kelly Phillips of Elsberry, MO. Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One brother, Bill and Maxine Jones of Jay, OK, and one sister, Bennie Earp also of Jay, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Jones and George Logan Jones; three sisters, Bert Jones, Margaret Jones and Dianna Driscoll.
Visitation was held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel in Jay. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Grove, OK. The services were under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, OK.

NORMA WESTERVELT PHILLIPY
GROVE, Okla. - Norma Phillipy, 80, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, at Grove Nursing Center. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, October 3, at Oakwood Cemetery, Parsons, Kan., with Rev. Dick Weaver and Kendall Aldrich officiating.
Norma Phillipy was born on June 18, 1923, in Altamont, Kan., to Elvin and Blanche (Armour) Westervelt. She graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont. While in high school, Norma was first chair in band where she played the trumpet and also played in the orchestra. She worked for the Commercial Bank in Parsons until she married. She married Billy R. Phillipy in Parsons, on October 19, 1949. They moved to Grove from Parsons in 1986. Mrs. Phillipy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grove and a member of the Cherry Reds of Grove General Hospital.
Survivors include her husband Billy Phillipy of Grove; one sister Darlos Aldrich of Garnett, Kan.; several nieces and nephews and numerous good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Grove.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove.

KIMBERLY RAE PHILPOT
ROCKY FORD, Okla.- Funeral services for Kimberly Rae Philpot, 37, of Rocky Ford, Okla., will be held Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the Leach Baptist Church in Leach, Okla. Burial will follow in the Leach Cemetery. The Reverend Utah Humphrey and Reverend Randall Cummings will officiate. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home of Locust Grove, Okla.
Kim was born September 16, 1966 in Siloam Springs, Ark. and died December 16, 2003 at her home in Rocky Ford with her family by her side.
Kim was the daughter of Jack and Lana (Harper) Strong. She grew up in the Rocky Ford area and attended school in Oaks, Okla. graduating in 1984. She then attended Northeastern State University graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She returned to Oaks, Okla. to teach school.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and supporting them in their school and sporting activities. She coached a basketball team at one time. She was a very gifted teacher that will be remembered by her students and co-workers. She attended New Mission Baptist Church, she was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association and the National Education Association.
She and Craig Philpot were married May 30, 1987 in The Lowery Baptist Church. She was a very loving wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, niece and friend. She will be greatly missed by all that shared in her life.
Survivors include her husband, Craig Philpot, of the home; one son, Tanner Philpot, of the home; one daughter, Whitney Philpot, of the home; Mother, Lana Strong of Rocky Ford, Okla.; Father, Jack Strong of Rocky Ford, Okla.; one brother, Chard Strong of Leach, Okla.; Mother-in-law, Beverly Philpot of Siloam Springs, Ark.; Father-in-law, Paul Philpot of Siloam Springs, Ark.; Grandmother, Ella Mae Harper of Claremore, Okla.; Grandmother, Phyllis Strong of Leach, Okla. Several other relatives are left to mourn her passing. Her grandfather Henry Strong preceded her in death.

ZELLA MAY PHILPOTT
COLCORD, Okla., - Zella May Philpott, 65 year-old resident of Tonnece Community, died Friday, December 19, 2003, in the Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. Born November 5, 1938, near Colcord, Okla., she was the daughter of Kenneth Coe Smith and Gertrude Spence Smith. Her life was spent in Northeast Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. She was a high school graduate of the Colcord Public Schools and was the widow of the late James Philpott who died in 1993.
Survivors include one son, Jeffery Philpott of the home; three grandchildren; and one brother, Faye Lee Smith of Gentry, Ark.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., December 22, 2003, at the Tonnece Holiness Church with burial in the Dickson Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

KATHERINE SCOTT BROWN PICKLE
WATTS, Okla. - Katherine Scott Brown "Scottie " Pickle, 87 year old resident of Watts, died Saturday, February 8, 2003, at her home. Born March 26, 1915, in Aberdeen, Miss., she was the daughter of Clarence Collin Brown and Katherine Louise Bankhead Brown.
When she was a young girl, Katherine was active in Girl Scouts, earning the Golden Eaglet; she was also awarded a Red Cross Life Saving medal for saving the life of a young friend. She graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1933. Katherine attended Mississippi State College of Women (Mississippi University for Women), University of Wisconsin, and graduated from John Brown University in 1945. She married John Pickle September 10, 1936. At the end of W.W.II they moved to Siloam Springs, Ark., where they were associated with John Brown University for many years.
While teaching at John Brown University she and her husband organized the Benton County Chapter of the American Red Cross and a Red Cross swimming program at the JBU pool. In 1950 they founded Kamp Paddle Trails, an outdoor living skills camp, located near Watts, along the banks of the Illinois River. She was active in running the camp, which instructed children in canoeing, swimming, sailing, nature studies, and horseback riding, for over 40 years. She was a lifetime member of the American Camping Association. Mrs. Pickle was an active member of First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs and was recognized by the church as Mother of the Year in 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband John H. Pickle, Sr.; one grandchild Zara Turner; and one great-grandchild Katelin Reading.
Survivors include five sons Dr. John H. Pickle, Jr., of Lodi, Wis., Dr. W. Stewart Pickle, of Manassas, Va., Kenneth S. Pickle of Edmonds, Wash., David Pickle of Watts, and Lt. Col. James A. Pickle of Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan; three daughters Pat Wolf, of the home, Kathy Turner of Siloam Springs, and Sharon Semtner of Konawa, Okla.; 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, February 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 11, at First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs with Dr. Steve Abbbott officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Siloam Springs.
Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 356, Siloam Springs, AR, or Siloam Springs High School Scholarship Fund, 1500 West Jefferson, Siloam, Springs, AR 72761.

STEVE ALLEN PIKE
Steve Allen Pike, 50 of Grove died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Westville Nursing Home in Westville Nursing Home in Westville, Okla. Steve Pike was born on February 9, 1953 in Alhamra, Calif. to Robert Edward Pike and Nettie Louise Cooper.
He was a veteran of the United States Marines. He was employed as a construction worker, roofing chicken houses in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas.
Survivors include his mother, Louise Egishian and her husband, Albert of Westville, Okla. and one daughter, Amanda Gale Pike.
Burial will take place Friday, June 20, 2003 at Buzzard Cemetery, Grove. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

NORMA MAXINE PLACE
COLCORD, Okla.- Norma Place, 72 year-old lifetime resident of Colcord, Okla., died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born October 16, 1931 near Colcord, she was the daughter of Albert "Abb" Allen and Emma Rutherford Allen. Mrs. Place was a seamstress for Bear Brand Hosiery in Siloam Springs, and a homemaker. She was a member of Eastgate Church of Christ in Siloam Springs. Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Victor Place.
Survivors include one brother Rex Allen of Colcord, Okla., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at the Eastgate Church of Christ with Mr. Charles Cash and Mr. Larry Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Siloam Springs, Ark. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 21, 3 p. m. to 5 p.m. at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark. Arrangements are by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.

ELIZABETH E. PLANT
GROVE - Elizabeth Plant, 64, died Monday,. March 24, 2003 at Grove General Hospital.
Elizabeth E. Plant was born on July 21, 1938 in Crestline, Kan. to Vernon and Leafy Jesse (Randall) Gaston. She married Al Plant on Jan. 28, 1956. She lived in Joplin, Mo. until 1973 when she moved to Garland, Texas. She moved to Ice Box Bluff near Grove in 1984. She and her husband were the owners of Ice Box Bluff Resort. Mrs. Plant attended Blendville Christian Church, Joplin, Bella Vista Christian Church, Garland and Green Tree Chapel at Ice Box Bluff. She was a member of the Board of Realtors in Joplin. She worked at Eagle-Picher, also in Joplin.
Survivors include her husband, Al Plant, Sr. of Ice Box Bluff; two sons, Larry Plant of Garland, Al Plant, Jr. of Ice Box Bluff; one daughter, Gayle Yarborough of Ice Box Bluff; one sister, Leeneaun Jones of Keokuk, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Terry Stowell, and one brother and one sister.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Grove Christian Center with Pastor Leon Vernon officiating. Burial will follow at Buzzard Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 26, at 6 p.m, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

DONALD POE
Donald Poe, age 68, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at his home. He was born July 30, 1934 in Paducah, Texas. He and his wife, Carlene, were married in 1957. He worked for Cessna Fluid power and later Eaton for 40 years, retiring on August 29, 1996. He was also involved in farming and an active member of the Saddle Club. He moved to Grove in April, 1998.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Dawn Poe, on September 11, 1982. He is survived by his wife, Carlene Poe, two children Suzanne Neil and husband, Chris, and Bradley Poe and wife, Lori. He is also survived by four grandchildren Danna Douglas and husband, Matthew, Crystal Neil and friend Justin, Brandon Poe and Ashley Poe as well as two great-grandchildren Carson Irvin and Ryker Douglas.
There will be a visitation for family and friends at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, Monday, July 7, 2003 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are being planned for a later time in Hutchinson, Kansas. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma.

JAMES M. "MONTIE" PORTER
GROVE, Okla.- James M. "Montie" Porter, 79, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23, 203 at Olympus Cemetery with Rev. Bill Maxey officiating.
James M. Porter was born on February 26, 1924 in Logan, Okla. to James Wesley and Nellie (Rothenberger) Porter. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He married Cleola Bevis on May 20, 1947. She preceded him in death. Mr. Porter worked as a chemical processor for Langley Corporation in San Diego, Cali. He could build and fix anything and had a machine shop in his home. He was a member of the American Legion. He had lived in Grove for twenty-two years coming from San Diego.
Survivors include on daughter, Sherry Picatti and husband, Bill of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Harry Porter of Lucerne, Cali.; three sisters, Hazel Blankenship of Fredonia, Kan., Elsie Phipps of Booker, Texas and Elva Higgins of St. Mary's, Kan.; three grandchildren, Michelle Lagrou of Seattle, Wash., Brent Bly of Bend, Ore., and David Bly of Hilo, Hawaii; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care Inc., 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, Okla. 74344, (918) 786-5172.

BETTE JO POTTER
JAY, Okla. - Bette Jo Potter, beloved wife, mother and nanny, passed away Friday morning, January 3, 2003, at the age of 76. She was born July 1, 1926 in Salina, Okla., to Erasmus Guy and Ella May Jackson Goins.
Bette married Ethan Louis Potter on January 26, 1946.
Bette was the supervisor of the Christian Childrens Fund for the surrounding counties, serving more than 700 children per year. Bette was a member of the first Baptist Church of Grove, Okla.
She is survived by: her husband, Ethan Potter; son, David Potter; daughter, Donna Potter Duggins; granddaughter, Tina Mease; and grandsons, Todd Payton, of Jay, and Ryan Duggins.
Bette has three great grandchildren, Ridge Sturgis, Tyler Jefferies and Kinli Payton, all of Jay. Her sisters are Jean Beauchamp of Jay, Annabell Judes of Jay, Judy Wingarten of Tulsa, Okla., Dona Mae Fryer of Pryor, Okla., and Geraldine Anderson of Southwest City, Mo.
Bette is preceded in death by: her parents, Guy and Mae Goins; brothers, Gerald, Tommy, and Wesley Goins; and sister, Maxine Beck. Bette leaves behind many loved ones and good friends.
Services will be under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay, on January 7, at Mount Herman Church, outside of Jay. Visitation will be on January 6, at Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay.

LOIS "KAYE" PRATER
GROVE, Okla. - Lois "Kaye" Prater, 55, died Friday, May 9, 2003 at Osborne Care & Rehab. Center, in Miami, Okla.
Kaye was born on September 14, 1947 in Anderson, Mo., to Lyford Ray Thrasher and Ethel Pauline (Sarlls) Thrasher. She married Doyle Prater in 1974 and was employed by Miami Laundry & Dry Cleaning for 32 years before retiring in January, 2003.
Kay is survived by her husband, Doyle of Grove; two sisters, Inez Booth and Carolyn Thrasher; and three brothers, Don Thrasher, Wayne Thrasher and Jim Thrasher.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, at Olympus Cemetery with Chaplain Della Shepard officiating. The family will receive friensde at the Funeral Home on Monday, May 12, at 6 p.m. Services are under the direction of Worley-Lubinbuel Funeral Home, Jay.
