J. S. ROSS
MUSKOGEE, Okla. - J. S. Ross, 77, of Warner, died Mon., Jan. 13, 2003 in Muskogee.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 17, at the Warner First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Crawford and Rev. Larry Combs. Burial will follow in Warner Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Checotah, Okla.
Mr. Ross was born May 23, 1925 in Checotah to Henry E. and Lettie (Voss) Ross. He was united in marriage to Peggy (Phillips) Hoover in Okmulgee, Okla. on June 3, 1950.
Mr. Ross was a teacher and principal for Webbers Falls Public Schools for four years. He then worked for the USDA Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service until he retired.
He was a W.W.II Army Veteran, a member of the Jay Masonic Lodge, past District Governor and Council Chairman of the Lions Club International, and served as a deacon of the Warner First Baptist Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Peggy Ross, of the home; two sons, Toby Ray Hoover and his wife, Cindy of Bolivia, S.A., and Phil Steven Ross and his wife, Sandy, of Warner; one daughter, Dee Ann McAffrey and her husband, Joe, also of Warner; one brother, Eugene (Pete) Ross of Dallas, Tex.; two sisters, Lizzie Lou Palmer and Imo Fugit, both of Eufaula; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casket bearers for the services will be: Bob Kiehn, Clayton Stephens, Hon Nabors, Scott Hupfer, Chris Thompson, and Burl Goats. Honorary casket bearers will be Mark Calavan, Larry Major, Charles McGrew, Paul McCrary, Smitty Nabors, and M.O. Ratterree.

CARL ROWE, JR.
DAVIS, Okla. - Services for Carl Rowe, Jr., 78, were held Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Fox Funeral Chapel in Davis. Interment was at Green Hill Cemetery, Davis, under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
He was born on July 5, 1924 in Sulphur to Carl and Berdie (Bean) Rowe. He died on May 25, 2003 at Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur. On July 13, 1946 he married Susan Joanna Vernon in Yuma, Ariz.
Carl lived in this area most of his life, attending school at Woodland. He served in the Navy during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart and other medals. He was a member of the Davis Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In 1965 he moved to Jay to help establish Jay Memorial Hospital, returning to Davis in 1995. He was a member of Jay Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his wife, of the home, Susan Joanna Rowe; one son, John Rowe and wife, Janet of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Edmond Rowe of Lakeside, Calif.; four sisters, Wanda Stoll of Kansas, Okla., Warrie Solace of Maybell, Colo., Laverne Johnson of LaMesa, Calif. and Margaret Templeton of Euless, Texas; two grandsons, Nathan and Jonathan and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Chuck Hill, Stanley Vernon, Rob Vernon, Ricky Stott and Steven Warner. Honorary pallbearers were Nathan Rowe and Jonathan Rowe.

DOLORES W. ROWE
GROVE - Dolores Winifred Rowe, formerly of Grove, died Friday, January 31, 2003 at her home in Dallas, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She was 84.
Ms. Rowe was born September 1, 1918 to James Ora and Maude (Phoenix) Rowe at Turkey Ford, Okla. She attended schools at Northeastern Oklahoma A& M College in Miami, Okla., Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Okla. and completed her education at the University of Tulsa. For 40 years she worked as an Education Consultant for the Owsley School in the Wyandotte, Okla. area. For 13 years she worked as Director of the Reading Program at Northeastern State College. She retired in 1985 from Houghton-Mifflin Publishing Co., a book publishing company, in Dallas. Ms Rowe was a member of the Delta-Kappa-Gamma Sorority, and the American Association of University Women, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grove. She was a brave soul and great fighter during her illness.
Survivors include one brother, Roy Rowe of Lamont, Calif., and two cousins, Jack and Lorene Woodall of Vinita, Okla.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, at the First United Methodist Church in Grove, Rev. Randy Hamill to officiate. Interment will follow at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove. Visitation will be 6 p.m., Monday, February 3, at the Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral home, 107 S Broadway, Grove OK.

CLARA MAE (JACKSON) SALYERS
CLAREMORE, Okla. - Clara Mae (Jackson) Salyers 79, passed away February 12, 2003 in Claremore, after a long illness. She was born June 20, 1923 in Claremore. She married Roy Frances Salyers in Arkansas on July 10, 1951. Survivors include a daughter Sheila Hornyack, of Eucha, Okla.; sons Gary Salyers of Van Nuys, Calif. and Everett Salyers of Noel, Mo. She has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a loving sister Claudine Johnston, and a brother Jack Jackson, along with several nieces and nephews. She has requested no funeral services and was cremated by Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Okla. Her ashes were laid to rest in California, where she longed to be.

CHASE ALEXANDRE SANCHEZ
AFTON, Okla. - Chase Alexandre Sanchez, 6 months, of Monkey Island, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Afton. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on August 27, 2002, to Melissa Pickens and Roy Wadley. Chase is survived by his parents; sister, Harley Sanchez; brother, Steven Sanchez; grandparents, Harrell and Ann Pickens and Jimmie Salter; aunt, Josey DeSouza; uncle, Chris Pickens; and cousin, Blade DeSouza.
Services were held on Wednesday, March 12, at the Lake Center Baptist Church on Monkey Island with Brother Kim Hays officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow, Okla

GENE E. SANDY
SILOAM SPRINGS, ARK–Gene E. Sandy, 70 year-old resident of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, died August 29, 2003, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. Born May 17, 933 in Hazelton, Kansas, he was the son of Elbert Thomas Sandy and Inez Coffman Sandy. He graduated from Wichita State University with a BS in Business Administration. Gene was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Siloam Springs. Prior to moving to Siloam Springs in 1973, he lived in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Eureka, Kansas and Wichita, Kansas, where he was the owner/operator of Sandy’s Motor City. Gene was preceded in death by one son; one step-daughter; and one brother.
Survivors include his wife Rosemary Bradbury Brillhart Sandy of the home; one son, Acie Sandy of Branson, Missouri; two daughters, Renee Young of Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Karla Bratton of Eureka, Kansas; one step-son, Alan Brillhart of Bremerton, Washington; two step-daughters, Tonya Sauppe of Venice, Florida, and Roxanne Piguet of Very, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Vance Sandy of Grand Junction, Colorado; and two sisters, Geraldine Flynn of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Sharon Sellers of Texas City, Texas.
Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, at Liberty Baptist Church, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, with Rev. Ralph DeVore officiating. Burial followed with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma Arrangements were under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

LETHA BELL SATTERWHITE
VINITA, Okla. – Letha Bell Satterwhite, 72 year old Vinita resident, passed away Mon., July 7, 2003.
Letha was born Jan. 31, 1931 in Adair, Okla. to Ira Franklin Ketchum and Fannie Violet (Johnson) Ketchum. She was a homemaker. Letha was united in marriage to Bobby Clay Satterwhite on March 8, 1951 at Oakhurst, Okla. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2001.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy (Satterwhite) Epperson, three brothers, Amel Raymond Ketchum, Arnold Roy Ketchum, Claudy Alvin Ketchum and one sister, Allie Agnus Ketchum.
Surviving family members include: two sons, Robert LeRoy Satterwhite and wife (Mary) of Langley, Okla., Monte Clay Satterwhite and wife Lora of Vinita, five sisters, Lillie Leona Weber of Pryor, Flora Ellen Osborn of Bartlesville, Dora Alma Wilson of Bartlesville, Imogene Beisley and Aline Beisley both of Vinita, one brother, George Talmadge Ketchum of Bartlesville, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were be held at 10:00 a.m., Wed., July 9, 2003 at the Carselowey Cemetery, Rev. Allen Byrd officiated.
Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

LOLA MAE SAVAGE
GROVE - Lola Mae Savage, 96, of Grove, formerly of Ft. Scott, Kan., died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove. She was born April 4, 1906 in Texas County, Mo., the daughter of Charlie and Margaret Nichols Wonnell. She married Henry Harold Savage on March 9, 1925, in Houston, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1987.
Lola Mae and Harold moved to Ft. Scott in 1958. The owned and operated a grocery store on Wall Street until 1970. She was a member of the Church of Christ. In September of 1998, she moved to the Grove Nursing Center in Grove.
Survivors include two daughters, Velma Lee Burdick of Sarasota, Fla. and Geraldine 'Jerry' Leake of Grove; a nephew she raised from infancy, Billy Joe Cox of Lonoke, Ark.; three grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and five brothers.
David Blankenship will conduct the funeral service at 10 a.m., Friday, March 28, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Memory Gardens of Bourbon County Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

ELSIE J. SCHMELING
MIAMI, Okla. - Elsie J. Schmeling of Miami, died at 4:02 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at the Integris Baptist Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was 93.
Schmeling was born April 10, 1910 at Purdy, Mo. to Arthur M. and Adeline (Loehr) Meister. She was a housewife and homemaker.
Mrs. Schmeling was married to Joseph H. Schmeling on January 1, 1934. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1971.
She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and was an associate member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Survivors include three daughters, Imogene Dresher and her husband, Ed, of Fairland, Okla., Ivogene Dresher and her husband, Jim of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Willa Jean Schmeling of Miami; a daughter-in-law, Frieda Schmeling of Afton, Okla.; four sisters, Dora Schnakenberg of Miami, Esther Maze of Overland Park, Kan. Lucille Reber of Kansas City, Mo. and Beulah Rakoski of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Opal Schaefer of Miami; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thuesday, May 29, at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church with Pastor Don Kirchhoff officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Fairland, under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami.
Pallbearer will be David Lee Dresher, Jimmy Dresher, Robert Dresher, Steven Dresher, Gene A. Schmeling and Jeff Schmeling.
The family will receive friends at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Miami, from 7 until 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 28.
Memorials are suggested to the Mount Olive Lutheran Church of the Mount Olive Lutheran School.

ETHEL WOODS SCOLES
MIAMI, Okla. - Ethel Woods Scoles was born on May 19, 1901, in Indian Territory at Stillwater, Okla. She was the daughter of Frank O. and Cora Weaver Woods. She passed from this life at Osborne Care and Rehab of Miami, after a few weeks of illness, at the age of 101.
On February 20, 1920, she was united in marriage to Leroy (Roy) H. Scoles, in Grove, Okla. They moved to Miami during the winter of 1926-27, making their home in Miami until now. Mr. Scoles preceded her in death on May 31, 1973. They were the parents of 10 children. Ethel was also preceded in death by: her youngest son, Darryl, in November 1944; and her youngest daughter, Margaret Scoles Goodwin, in August 2001. Also preceding her were: two granddaughters, Barbara Spohn Bolin and Marolyn Wimer Black; and one son-in-law, Jack Wimer.
Mrs. Scoles was a member of the Miami Church of God Holiness. She was faithful in attendance until sickness prevented her, but she was greatly interested in the church.
Survivors include: six daughters and their husbands, Ruth and Gene Spohn of Grove, Barbara Wimer of Miami, Doris and George Budy of St. David, Ariz., Leona and Leroy Moore of rural Miami, Elsie and Marvin Spohn of Moline, Ill., and Joyce and Franklin Conley of Millington, Tenn.; two sons and their wives, Leroy and Darla Scoles of Miami and Rex and Wanda Scoles of Joplin, Mo.; and son-in-law, Larry Goodwin of Overland Park, Kan. Mrs. Soles is also survived by: 21 grandchildren; 53 great and step-great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; one sister, Velma Hinds of Callao, Mo.; two brothers and their wives, Walter and Mary Woods of Kansas City, Kan., Lester and Lucile Woods of Overland Park; sister-in-law Clara Masterson of Jensen Beach, Fla.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2003, in the Miami Church of God Holiness. Rev. Rex Scoles officiated. Burial was in the Buzzard Cemetery in Grove, under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home, Miami. Mrs. Scoles' grandsons served as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the charity of her friends' choice.
