LEE ELLIS SMITH
GROVE, Okla - Lee E. Smith, 77, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, at Olympus Cemetery with Ralph Davis officiating.
Lee Ellis Smith was born on September 6, 1925, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Clarence and Bertha (Ellis) Smith. He married Dolores M. Williams on July 6, 1947, in Carthage, Mo. She preceded him in death on December 15, 1997. Mr. Smith was a business entrepreneur. He was the second President of the Grand Lake Association. He returned to Grove in 1994 from Tucson, Ariz.
Survivors include one son, Steven Smith and wife, Lori of Oceanside, Calif.; two daughters, Kristi Friedman and husband, Allen of Mesa, Ariz., and Patricia Herrington of Cooper City, Fla.; one sister, Lois Stanley and husband, Paul of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Andrea Herrington, Tyler Smith, Jacey Smith; brother-in-law, Samuel D. "Dave" Williams III and wife, Carolyn of Grove; mother-in-law, Mabel L. Williams of Grove; aunt, Veda Quade of Carthage, Mo.; good friend, Ralph Davis of Grove.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, OK.

MARY ALICE ELIZABETH SMITH
GENTRY, Ark. - Mary Alice Elizabeth Smith, 83-year old resident of Gentry, died February 10, 2003, at Northwest Medical Center, Springdale, Ark. Born January 24, 1920, in Michigan, she was the daughter to Glenn Schoonard anD Alice Euphemia Richardson Schoonard. She had worked as an LPN for the Community Hospital in Battle Creek , Mich., Gravette Manor in Gravette, Ark., Woodland Manor in Siloam Springs, Ark., and Quail Ridge Living Center in West Siloam Springs, Okla. before her retirement. She had lived in the area for the past 22 years and was affiliated with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Gentry. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Martin Edgar Smith, Sr.
Survivors include three sons Martin Edgar Smith, Jr, and wife, Lynn of North Ft. Myers, Fla., Randall Barry Smith and wife, Miriam of Bellevue, Mich. and Thomas Brent Smith of Colcord, Okla; one daughter Janet Smith Dickhaut and husband, Leroy of Gentry; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; one brother Elvin Schoonard and wife, Florrie of San Diego, Calif.; one sister Maxine Saunders and husband, Ed of Mishawauka, Ind.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 15, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Gentry with Pastor Tim Roosenberg officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

MYRTLE LEE SMITH
VINITA, Okla. - Myrtle Lee Smith, 96 year-old Vinita resident, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Craig General Hospital. Myrtle was born on September 22, 1906 in Denton, Texas, to John Samuel and Willie (Hudson) Wattam where she lived for 17 years until moving to Vinita. She married William Albert Smith and they spent 58 wonderful years together until his passing in 1987. Myrtle worked at the Post office in Kenwood, Okla. during her early years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ketchum and enjoyed quilting, sewing and reading.
Survivors include two sisters, Glenda Gray and Ruth Prine, both of Ketchum, Okla.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles Smith and William Albert Smith and wife, Dorothy, all of Ketchum; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Samuel and Willie Wattam; her husband of 58 years, William Albert Smith; and a brother, Kenneth Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at the First Baptist Church of Ketchum with Rev. Henry McClain and Rev. Bill Busch officiating. Interment will be at Ketchum cemetery.
Funeral services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.

OPAL GOETTEL SMITH
MIAMI, Okla. - Opal Goettel Smith of Miami died at 4:54 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2003 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin. She was 82.
Opal was born on March 16, 1921 in Ketchum, Okla. to Archie and Edna Bell.
She graduated from Vinita High School in 1940. She was a clerk for Ken's Farm and Home in Miami. She was an accomplished china painter and was Past President of the State of Oklahoma World Organization China Painting Club. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Vinita.
She married Arthur C. Goettel in July 1944. he preceded her in death in August 1979. She married Ralph Smith in January 1985 and he preceded her in death in August of 1993.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law Don and Sandy Goettel of Grove; one daughter and son-in-law Susie and Richard Barnett of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one cousin, Dee Sine of Oklahoma City.
The family will receive friends at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami on Monday, May 12, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Services are at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, at the Community of Christ Church in Miami with High Priest Lucille Ervin and High Priest Bob Harper officiating. Burial is in G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami.
Pallbearers will be Mike Payton, Benny Johnston, Bruce Tippit, Robbie Coach, John Turner and Ronnie Ross.

NADINE MCCORMACK SMITH
TULSA, Okla. - Nadine McCormack Smith, 85, passed away Fri., Feb. 7, 2003 in Tulsa. She was born April 8, 1917 in Weleetka, Okla. to George and Virginia McCormack.
She was a member of Evangelistic Temple. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Everett E. "Smitty" Smith.
Nadine is suvived by five grandchildren Lori Reeves and husband, Tandy and Sylvia Brown, both of Tulsa, Julie Sims and husband, Stan of Edmond, April Smith and husband, Brian of Monett, Mo., and Billy McClure and wife, Connie of Carrollton, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Sims, Ian Brown, Austin Sims, Michael Brown, Jessica Sims, Lauren Reeves, Victoria Reeves and Christopher Smith; son-in-law, Bill McClure of Tulsa.
Services were held Mon., Feb. 10, at Evangelistic Temple with interment at Bixby Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Moore's Southlawn Chapel 663-2233.

VIOLET M. SMITH
Violet M. Smith, 69 year-old Vinita resident, went to be with the Lord, Monday, September 29, 2003.
She was born January 10, 1034 to William T. Vanover and Cleo (Cary) Vanover at Eucha, Okla. She married James D. Smith on January 7, 1963.
She is survived by her husband, James, of the home; her adopted children and sons-in-law, Carla and Robert Pruden of Broken Arrow; Lisa and Brian Washam of Vinita; Scott A. Smith of Vinita; a brother, Manford L. Vanover of Vinita; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Family Praise Center with Rev. Jerry Ogdon officiating.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Family Praise Center Building Fund or their Youth Program.
Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

TOMMY LEE SPIELMAN
GROVE - Tommy Lee Spielman, 61, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Integris Grove Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2003, at Parker Cemetery in Arkansas City, Kansas with Pastor Larry Moore and Harvey Spohn officiating. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2003, at the Ellis Family Funeral Home, Grove.
Tommy Spielman was born on September 3, 1941, in Carthage, Missouri to Ed and Twila L. (May) Spielman. He was a veteran of the Kansas Army Nation Guard. He received his Master Plumber Certification in Texas and worked in Ft. Worth and Arlington, Texas areas as a plumber. He was a member of Grand Lake Baptist Church in Grove. He came to Grove in 1992 from Arkansas City, Kansas where he had lived most of his life.
Survivors include his parents, Ed and Twila Spielman of Grove; one son, Ty Spielman and wife, Terry of Raytown, Missouri; two daughters, Sonya Montz and husband, Jeff of Winfield, Kansas, and Denice Bennett and husband, Jake of Beggs, Oklahoma; one brother, David Spielman and wife, Dianna of Arkansas City, Kansas; one sister, Trisha Rahn of Portland, Michigan.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Services are entrusted to Ellis Family Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, Oklahoma 74344, 786-5172.

JESSIE ANDREW SPRUEILL
WYANDOTTE, Okla. - Jessie Sprueill, age 18, of Wyandotte, Okla. was killed Saturday in a traffic accident. The son of Chester and Rebecca (Martin) Sprueill, he was born on March 1, 1985 in Tulsa, Okla. They lived the last 10 years in the Grove area where he attended the Grove Schools.
He is survived by his parents Chester and Rebecca Sprueill; a brother, James Dustin Sprueill; grandmother, Mary Wright; grandparents, Andy and Joan Martin; great- grandmother, Edna Petree Aguilar; five uncles and three aunts and other relations.
The funeral was held graveside in the Butler Cemtery at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 14. The services were under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

CLARA MARIE SUMMERS
JET, Okla. - Clara Marie Summers, 82-year-old Jet, Okla. resident, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Great Plains Care Center in Helena, Okla. Marie was born 12, 1920 in Vinita, Okla. to W.F. and Lela Lay. She was a homemaker. Marie was united in marriage to Alvin Newton (Bud) Summers in June of 1939 in Tulsa. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1994. Her parents and one sister, Fern Wayman also preceded her in death.
She is survived by three sons, James Summers and his wife, Kay of Jet, Duane Summers and his, wife Kathy of Wichita, Kan. and Walt Summers and his wife, Ellen of Stillwater, Okla.; one brother, Jim Lay of Canadian, Texas; four sisters, Wilma Huff of Cleveland, Wanda Walker, Laverne Walker and Louise Bowie all of Vinita; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, at the Scott Cemetery near Vinita. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scott Cemtery Fund or the First Christian Church at Jet. Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

PATRICIA ANN SASSO STEFFEN
LANGLEY, Okla. - Patricia Ann Sasso Steffen, 47, went to join her Lord and Savior on May 17, 2003.
Patricia was born on November 11, 1955, to Pasquale and Mary Sasso in Escondito, Calif. She has been a resident of the Grand Lake area for the past 15 years.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Sasso Steffen, and her second father, Orville "Steve" Steffen of Eucha, Okla.; two sons, Jared and Adam L'Esprance; four sisters, Pamela Sue Sasso, Rhonda Faye Bridge, Cassie Steffen, Pauline Rose Edwards; and three brothers, Stephen Lee Page, Steve Steffen and Dean Steffen.
She is preceded in death by her biological father, Pasquale Sasso; a son, Travis James L'Esprance; and a sister, Katherine Sasso.
Patricia was a brave and wonderful lady, well loved by family and friends.
Services are under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel of Langley. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, May 10, from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be May 21, at 2 p.m., at Turner Chapel in Langley. Interment will be at Spavinaw Cemetery.

ELSIE BLUME STEIN
Elsie Blume Stein, 96, of Miami, Okla. died Thursday, July 4, 2003 at the Osborne Care and Rehab following a short illness.
Mrs. Stein was born November 21, 1906, in New York City, New York, to Ernst and Auguste (Hoppe) Stein. She lived in Miami for the past nine years after moving from California.
Mr. Stein was of the Catholic Faith. She married Harold W.D. Stein on August 30, 1931, in New York City, New York. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1979.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harold A. and Gael Stein, of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and a daughter and son-in-law Audrey and David Froman, of Miami, Okla. Additional survivors include a granddaughter and husband, Carolyn and Walter Rose of Miami, Okla., granddaughter, Darcie Froman, of Miami, Okla., grandsons, Davey Froman, Miami, Okla., and Anthony Joseph of Florida. Mrs. Stein is also survived by five other grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Private family services will be held. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
