Shatswell

Martha Marie Shatswell, 82, Blair, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Blair Church of Christ with Joe Waugh officiating. Burial will be at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf.

She was born May 27, 1917 in Ryal to William Harrison Delphia Emmaline (Poor) Luellen. She married Morris Shatswell, Aug. 19, 1934. He died Jan. 25, 1988. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, a grandson, Richard Fisher in 1964.

Survivors include three sons, Ron Shatswell of Altus, Kenneth Shatswell of Blair, and Clovis Shatswell of Woodward; three daughters, Lillian Fisher of Lone Wolf, Jolene Brooks of Guthrie and Christine McMurry of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Turnbough

Luther D. Turnbough, 83, former Eldorado resident, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Levelland, Texas. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Dean Goodfellow officiating. Burial was at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Turnbough was born June 19, 1916, to Jonathan Luther and Avice (Owens) Turnbough in Eldorado. He grew up in Eldorado and graduated from school there. He married Ethel Samples April 12, 1937, in Eldorado. He served in the U.S. Army in 1943. Most of his life's work was dedicated to the oil field industry - participating in all phases of production, including management.

He was a member of the Lion's Club and the First Baptist Church of Eldorado. He served as a deacon and was the Sunday School superintendent for several years. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing.

Turnbough was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ethel in 1996 and three sisters.

Survivors include: three daughters and their husbands, Tommie and Eddie Leamon, Levelland, Texas, Janice Cavner and Clifton Narcisse, San Diego, Calif. and Lee Ann Fisher and Gary Anderson, Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Ella Moulton, San Angelo, Texas and Francis Tindall, Redlands, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and many friends.

Ware

Ella Mae Ware, 87, Quanah, Texas, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at her home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church. The Rev. John Spangler officiated. Burial was at Goodlett Cemetery under the direction of Price-Jackson Funeral Home.

Ware was born Aug. 3, 1912, in Groesback, Texas. She was the daughter of Berry and Rosie Pebehouse Leonard. She and Kenneth Edward Ware were married on March 11, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas. He died May 2, 1981. She lived in Quanah most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Elba School and member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Daisy Mobley, Lillie Belle Carroll and Laura Pug Jones; a daughter, Lona Fay Ritchie on Aug. 2, 1994 and a granddaughter, Ethel May Shelton.

Survivors include: four sons, Jimmie Ware of Quanah, Edward Ware of Idalou, Texas, Berry Daniel of Mabank, Texas and Raymon Daniel of Las Vegas; two daughters, Jackie Henderson of Altus and Alvis Hooie, Rogersville, Ala.; five sisters, Thelma Roe of Quanah, Elizabeth Wiseman, Wichita Falls, Texas and Louise Shelton, Quinland, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Wheat

Gary Bruce Wheat, 40, San Marcos, Texas, died Sunday, April 9, 2000. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today in the First Christian Church of San Marcos with the Rev. Jimmy Cobb officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas, under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home of San Marcos.

Wheat was born July 24, 1959, to Donald and Lois Wheat in Beaumont, Texas. He served his country in the Air Force, from which he retired in 1994 after attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He attended SWTSU and graduated with a bachelor's degree in science in 1996 with summa cum laude honors. At the time of his death, he was working toward his masters degree in education.

Wheat is survived by: his wife Kathy, of San Marcos; son, Kyle Bruce Wheat of Beaumont, Texas; daughter, Melinda Christine Wheat of Mauriceville, Texas; stepson and daughter-in-law, Randy and Stella Welch, stepson Phillip Welch; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Mark Hasty; grandchildren, Carson and Cary Welch, Mason and Karter Hasty, all of Duke; mother, Lois Wheat of Beaumont, Texas; grandfather, J.O. Wheat of Lufkin, Texas; grandparents, Carl and Grace Spears of Vidor, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Jamie Wheat of Conroe, Texas; brother, Larry Wheat of Beaumont, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Brandon Bowles of Magnolia, Texas; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Wheat was preceded in death by his father, Donald Bruce Wheat.

White

Ethel O. White, 98, Altus, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Quartz Mountain Care Center. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Altus City Cemetery with Bill Osborne and the Rev. T.J. Willingham officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

The family will have visitation from 7 until 9 p.m. today at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

White was born Sept. 7, 1901, in Arapaho to Delnoe Taylor Thompson and Almeda Pearl (Moore) Thompson. She had lived in Altus since 1925.

On March 30, 1927, in Mangum, she married Pearl Hardin White. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1955.

White worked for several years as a telephone operator, but her greatest joy was being a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ and Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include: one daughter, D'Eon Thomason and husband Arlis of Altus.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research or to the Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice, in her memory.

Alexander

Lloyd Laverne Alexander, 79, longtime Olustee resident, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Private graveside services were held Saturday at the Olustee Cemetery with Sonny Tims officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Alexander was born March 31, 1921, in Olustee, to Frank and Ruby (Lanning) Alexander. He was a mechanic for many years until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include: one brother, Harold Alexander of Altus; one sister, Eva Lee, also of Altus and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Atchley

Roy Atchley, 72, Altus, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sherman Mullis officiating. Burial will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Atchley was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Bagwell, Texas, to Floyd and Frankie Ella (Daniels) Atchley. He was a farmer and rancher all his life.

He lived in the Altus area for many years. He loved being outdoors and riding horses. He loved helping people and continued his efforts by donating his artificial limb to the Layton Clinic in Lawton for the benefit of another.

Atchley was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Imogene Maynard.

Survivors include: a son, Ronnie Atchley and his wife Debbie of Altus; a daughter, Sandra Messick and her husband Kenneth of Altus; two sisters, Katherine Copeland and husband Anthony of DeKalb, Texas and Dorothy Hyman of Paris, Texas; two brothers, Willis Atchley of Midland, Texas and Ernest Atchley of New Boston, Texas; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Brewer

Carlos Herbert Brewer, Eldorado, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, at the age of 79. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Eldorado Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Coleman officiating. Viewing and visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and from 8 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the Eldorado Chapel.

Brewer was born May 22, 1920, in Lincoln, Jackson County, to Will and Bessie (Norman) Brewer. He graduated from Eldorado High School and later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for two years before joining the Navy during World War II.

After returning from the war in 1946, he returned to his job with the railroad. Several years later he moved to Carlsbad, N.M., where he owned and operated an automobile dealership. He later took a job with Malco Oil and Gas in Farmington, N.M. In the late 1960s, he moved back to Eldorado where he had a hog farm and owned and operated his own oil and gas brokerage firm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Bessie Brewer; his son, Gary Brewer in 1960; and three brothers, Cecil Brewer, Norman Brewer and Billy Brewer.

Brewer is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Annice and Morris Wilson of Farmington, N.M.; several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Brown

Ruby Mae Brown, 85, Oklahoma City, and former Blair resident died Saturday in Oklahoma City. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Blair with Roy McDaniel officiating. Burial will in the Blair Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf.

She was born Nov. 9, 1913 in Blair to George W. and Bertie L. (Hyde) Payne. She attended Blair High School. She married Buster Elden Brown Oct. 31, 1931 in Blair. He preceded her in death Sept. 3, 1993. During World War II she was a telephone operator in Savanna. She moved back to Blair and worked for 16 years at Quartz Mountain Lodge. She retired from there in 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blair. She was also a member of the Grandmothers and Sunshine Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Buster; two sons, Elden Ray Brown and Kenneth Brown; a daughter, Gwendolyn Brown Collins; two brothers, Clyde Payne and Melvin payne; and two sisters, Zelda Kidd and Idell Pendergraft.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley Lynn Brown of Midwest City and Richard dean Brown of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Gaylon Jasinski of Altus and Donna Brown of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Loyd Payne of Wellston and Ray Payne of El Paso, Texas; a sister, Aline Mortimer of Apache Junction, Ariz; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bynum

Maurine B. Bynum, 89, longtime Eldorado resident died Sunday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services were held today at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. T.J. Willingham officiating. Burial followed at the Boggy Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

She was born Aug. 16, 1910 in Olustee to William J. and Mary Ann (Jobe) Hughes. She married Denzil Bynum who preceded her in death in 1984. She taught school in Olustee and Eldorado for more than 25years. She was a long time member of the Methodist Church, Retired Teachers Association and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include a son, Austin Bynum of El Reno; two grandchildren, Marlo Bynum Nelson and husband, Steve of Woodward and Lori Bynum Kelley and husband Chris of Edmond and one great-grandson, Mark Austin Bynum.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, two sisters, and an infant grandson, Mark Austin Bynum.

Caffey

James William (Bill) Caffey, 72, died Monday, May 1, 2000. Services were held at 2 p.m. today at Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st St., Tulsa. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Riverside Cemetery of Mangum under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.

Caffey was a native of Mangum, a graduate of Oklahoma University and the retired sales manager for Smith International.

He was also a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jan Scott Caffey and his children, Scott Caffey of Bixby, Christine Caffey of Dallas, Jan Elizabeth Caffey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Chuck and Russ Caffey of Jacksonville, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the charity of the donor's choice.
