GRACE QUALLS
GROVE, Okla. - Emma Grace Qualls, 78, died Sunday, Jan. 25, at her home in Grove. She was born Feb. 24, 1925 to Henry and Gladys (Sears) Killion at Vinita, Okla. She worked at Dr. Henry’s office in Grove, and also at the Coffee Cup in Grove, for a few years.
She married Robert Qualls on Jan. 15, 1963 at Miami, Okla., and he preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include one daughter, Tina Marie Qualls and friend James Stroud of Grove; three sisters, Henryetta Stogsdill of Grove, Flora Day of Grove, and Lida Weglin of Sacramento, Calif.; and one grandson, Zachery Stroud.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove with Jim Hale officiating. Burial will follow at the Zena Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the funeral home.

BONNIE SUE YEAGER
GROVE, Okla. - Bonnie Sue Yeager, 69, died Monday, Jan. 26, at INTEGRIS Grove General Hospital after an illness.
Mrs. Yeager was born Nov. 17, 1934 in Stroud, Okla. to William and Mary (Roberts) Arbaugh. She was a homemaker, and attended the First Baptist Church of Grove. She has lived in the area since 1990, coming from Prague, Okla.
She married James Yeager on March 23, 1977 in Reno, Nev. and he survives. Other survivors include three sisters, Betty Hurd of Grove, Elsie Richardson of Burney, Calif., and Joyce Hernandez of Grove; and two brothers, William Arbaugh of Damascus, Va., and Charles Lee Arbaugh of McAlester, Okla.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Okla. under the direction of Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Family visitation will be Wedesday, Jan. 28, 6-7 p.m. at the Guilford-Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.

HOWARD R. "BUD" BOYER
Howard R. "Bud" Boyer, longtime Fairland resident, died at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center, Sat., Jan. 24, 2004, after an illness. He was 77. He was born Nov. 1, 1926, at May, Mo., to Frank and Virgie Rogers Boyer. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army during WWII. He married Audrey Kennedy at Oakley, Kan., on June 27, 1948. They moved to Fairland in 1969, coming from Neosho, Mo. He was a serviceman for Empire Electric for many years.
After retiring from Empire, he enjoyed helping his wife with the Boyer Dairy Snack in Fairland. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairland and also a Mason and Shriner, serving in the Frisco Lodge. He served as past Master of the Anderson, Mo. Lodge. He loved to fish and fly, and was an accomplished pilot. He was also a valued member of the Mary's Restaurant Liar's Club where he drank coffee with the other guys and enjoyed the tall tales and solving the problems of the world. His greatest joy, though, was his family.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey, of the home, a son and his wife, Vic and Brenda Boyer of Fairland, three daughters and their husbands, Frances and Keith Hinson, Fairland, Donna and Cole Cummins, Sarcoxie, Mo., Nancy and Chuck Welch, Joplin, Mo., three brothers and their wives, Frank and Joyce Boyer and Don and Treva Boyer, all of Seneca, Mo. and John and Gwyn Boyer, Goodman, Mo., ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Mon., Jan. 26, 2004, at First Christian Church in Fairland, with Minister Brian Giebler officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Mason Cummins, Newly Boyer, Slate Boyer, Jason Peterson, Chad Sloan, Eli Welch, and Ashby Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be Jarod Kennedy, Jay Kennedy, and Jerry Kennedy. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, near Goodman, Mo. A visitation for family and friends was held Sun. from 4 - 6 p.m. at Adcock Funeral Home Chapel in Fairland. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Christian Church of Fairland. Arrangements are provided by Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.

ALTA F. (JAMES) LEWIS
Alta Lewis was born October 13, 1908 in Kress, Texas and was raised on a ranch at Boise City, Okla. Alta died Saturday, January 24, 2004 in the Grand Lake Villa in Grove, Okla. She married Steve Lewis on March 31, 1935. They were married almost 45 years until his death in 1980. Alta is survived by one son Kit Lewis in Del City, Okla., many nieces and nephews and many friends.
Upon retirement of her husband, they moved from Kansas to a small farm at Maysville, Ark. and lived there for ten years. She then moved to Grove, Okla. upon the death of her husband and lived independently until she was 89. She moved to Honeycreek Retirement Village and enjoyed the activities and friendship of the residents until moving to the Grand Lake Villa Nursing Home in April 2000.
During her life she taught briefly in a country school, was a business woman, and a homemaker. She was a self taught artist and enjoyed sharing her paintings with friends and relatives. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers and association with young people. She enjoyed travel in her retirement and her church.
The funeral will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 in the First Christian Church in Grove, Okla. The interment will be at 2 PM on Thursday, January 29, 2004 in the Shellman Cemetery in Cunningham, Kan.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Boys Ranch or the American Cancer Fund.

FRANK LEE "HENRY" ELMORE
Stillwell, Okla.- Frank Lee "Henry" Elmore, 71, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Henry Elmore was born on April 10, 1932 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Henry and Annie Lee (Littleday) Elmore. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Alice Faye Trout on July 16, 1971. He worked as a laborer doing road construction. He was a member of Piney Church and moved to Stillwell from Jay in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Stillwell; five children, Annie Davenport, Elton Elmore, Frank Elmore, Jr., Ronnie Dewayne Elmore and Fay Bushyhead; six stepchildren and many grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2004 at Piney Church, Jay with Richard Pickup and John Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow at O'Field Cemetery with the Grove Veterans Ritual Team performing military honors.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, Oklahoma.

WILLIS A. (J.R.) UNDERWOOD, JR.
CHARLOTTE D. UNDERWOOD
Willis A. (J.R.) Underwood, Jr., age 60, and Charlotte D. Underwood, age 58, residents of Big Cabin, both died as a result of injuries sustained in a train/vehicle accident on S. 550 Rd., just off U.S. 60, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004.
Mr. Underwood was born Oct. 18, 1943, at Holden, Mo., to Willis A. and Janie Tune Underwood. He had served in the National Guard. They had moved to Big Cabin in 1983, coming from Claremore. He had owned the J.R. Automobile, where he did mechanic work until retiring in 1994. He was a Mason and a member of Lodge #5 in Vinita.
Mrs. Underwood was born in Knobel, Ark., on Aug. 15, 1945, to Donald and Dorothy Murphy Rowe. She was a housewife. Both of the Underwoods were doting grandparents and enjoyed their grandchildren immensely.
Mr. Underwood was preceded by his father and a sister, Ruth. He is survived by his step-father and mother Bill and Janie Winton of Vinita, and two sisters, Sue Houck, of Sacremento, Cali., and Joanne Case, of Vinita. Mrs. Underwood was preceded by a brother, Jimmie Lee Rowe. She is survived by her parents and four brothers, Daryl and Donald, both of Nev., Teddie and Freddie, both of Cali., and a sister, Shirley, of Cali.
The Underwoods are both survived by their sons, Sonny and wife Sherri Underwood of Fairland; Aaron and wife Stacy Ward of Atlanta, Ga.; and David Underwood, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Sat., Jan. 24, 2004, at White Oak Cemetery, with Rev. Kevin Burns officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Mahurin, Mike Case, Don McClellan, Steven Ames, Leonard case, and Johnathan McCorkle. Interment will follow under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland. The family request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be sent to the Diabetes Association, in care of Adcock Funeral Home. The caskets will be closed at all times.

ORAL WILLIAM WILSON
Oral William Wilson, 87 year-old former Vinita area resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Linwood Nursing Center, Cushing, after a long illness.
He was born August 21, 1916, Craig County to Hugh Loid and Rachel Oletha (Duckworth) Wilson. He married Iva Pauline Colter, Aug. 12, 1935 in Mayes County. She preceded him in death, April 25, 2001.
Mr. Wilson was a truck driver for many years and also, worked for the Will Rogers Turnpike. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Vinita until moving to Drumright, Okla. in 1985.
He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in church, hunting and fishing. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include five daughters, Lena Ruth James and husband, Bill of Elk City; Lela Mae Wilson of Oklahoma City; Earlene Mason and husband, Vernon of Vinita; Levita James and husband, J.B. of Macomb; Roberta Wilson of Vinita; a brother, Cletus Wilson and wife, Arlene of Cushing; a brother, Will D. Wilson of Portland, Oregon; twenty-nine grandchildren; seventy-one great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
His parents, four brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and three great-grandchildren, also, preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. in the Old Adair Cemetery west of Adair with Reverend Gary Wilson officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, Jan. 23, at Burckhalter Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.

L.J. HAGGARD
GROVE, Okla. - L.J. Haggard, 83, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Integris Grove General Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 3, at Miner Cemetery, McCurtain, Okla., with Rev. Larry Haggard officiating. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, April 2, at Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove. A memorial service will also be held Tuesday, April 6, at 10 a.m., in the First Christian Church in Grove.
L.J. Haggard was born on May 3, 1920, in McCurtain, to Loren Jesse and Pearl (Godard) Haggard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was married to Jean Aldrich. Mr. Haggard worked for AT&T in Management and Training. He was a member of First Christian Church in Grove where he served as a church Elder and was chairman of the Property and Grounds Committee. Mr. Haggard volunteered at all three nursing homes in Grove. He was a past member of church boards at other churches he attended. He had lived in Grove for 12 years, coming from Overland Park, Kan.
Survivors include his wife Jean of Grove; one son Loren Haggard of Summerland Key, Fla.; five grandchildren, Andrew Haggard of Summerland Key, Stephanie Mickler of St. Louis, Mo., Jennifer Haggard of Jacksonville, Fla., Tracy Jo Wilson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kristen Haggard of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two great-grandchildren.
He was loved by many. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, J.D. Haggard and James Harold Haggard.

Hoyt Clinton Page
AFTON, Okla. - Hoyt Clinton Page, 71, of Afton, Okla., died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at his home.
Hoyt Page was born on March 19, 1933 in Frost Proof, Florida to Zeland Jordan and Mattie Maudine (Campbell) Page. He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and country music.
Survivors include his companion Donna Brown of Afton; one daughter, Pattie Herland of Grand Junction, Colo.; three other children, Kathy, Sandy, and Steven; five brothers and sisters, Eunice Manley of Ft. Meade, Fla.; Tyrone Page of Dover, Fla.; Winiford Balron of Watte, Ga.; Dorothy Blaylock of Pensacola, Fla.; and Nolan Page of Ft. Meade, Fla.; and several grandchildren.
Graveside services were held today, April 1, 10 a.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Nutonia, Mo. under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove, Okla. Wilbert Howard “Bud” Palmer
TULSA, Okla. - Wilbert Howard “Bud” Palmer, 76, of Vinita, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. He was born September 27, 1927 to Silas Edger and Jane Ellen (Moore) Palmer in Eureka Springs, Ark. He retired from Eastern State Hospital where he was a mental health aide.
Bud was married to Nettie Lou Hayes, and she preceded him in death on May 23, 1992. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens’ Center. He served his country from 1952-1963 in the U.S. Merchant Marines, the U.S. Air Force, and the Oklahoma National Guard.
He is survived by a step-daughter, Trella Roberts of Florida; a step-son, Fred Buss of Texas; one sister, Pearl Frellick of Afton, Okla.; three brothers, Chester Luke Stratton of Miami, Okla., Jesse Gordon Palmer of Baxter Springs, Kan., and Edward Victor Palmer of Webb City, Mo.; three step-grandchildren and five step-great great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Richard Stratton and Paul M. Palmer; and one sister, Ethel Marie Fisk.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2, 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Vinita with Rev. Jack Frasier officiating. Interment will follow at the Chelsea Cemetery. Family visitation will be Thursday, April 1, 6-7 p.m. at Burckhalter Funeral Home in Vinita.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Vinita or the Vinita Senior Citizens’ Center.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Haire, Russell Gordon, Elmo Charles, Charles Hankins, Hugh Gordon, and Chester Loveless. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Brogdon, Jack Simpson, Charles Gant, and Marvin Glidden.
Services are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home of Vinita.
