J. B. PETERSON
1915 - 2004
GROVE, Okla. - J. B. Peterson of Grove died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Integris Grove General Hospital. He was 88.
J. B. was born July 6, 1915 at mound Valley, Kan. to Charles and Al Seana Peterson. He retired from the United States Air Force after 28 years of service as a Chief Master Sgt. J. B. was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Hanna Mahan.
Survivors include one sister Juanita Bennett of Grove Okla..; one nephew Eugene Mahan of Alta Mont., Kan.; four nieces Dorothy Singleton of Arizona, Juanita Cannon of Tulsa, Darlene Steventon of Florida, and Norina Meyers of Overland Park, Kan.
Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday June `7 at the Ellis Family Funeral Home. Rev. Randy Hamill to officiate. The Grove Veterans Ritual Team will conduct military rites.

KENNETH DAVID PHILLIPS
1924 - 2004
WALDRON, Ark. - Mr. Phillips was born on January 23, 1924 in Zinkville, Okla. He died on June 13, 2004 in Waldron, Ark.
The son of George and Bertha (Rayon) Phillips, he grew up in Eucha, Okla. He was a WWII Veteran and served in the 300th Army Engineered Combat Battalion in Europe, where he earned five Battle Star Medals. After the war he was employed by Boeing Aircraft of Wichita, Kan. He then began working for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa retiring after 35 years. He was married to Zelma Larkin on January 26, 1952 in Jay. They moved to Locust Grove in 1952 from Wichita. Kenneth was an avid hunter and fisherman and furnished the fish for many clubs with fish for their fish fry dinners and benefits. He loved working with young children in Little League Baseball teams that he coached. He served as commander of the V.F.W. Post #2573 and other leadership offices. Kenneth had worked the post bingo activities since his retirement, that earned the money to sponsor 9 baseball teams each year and numerous programs for the community. He also loved to play Bluegrass and Gospel music. He entertained at many benefits, senior citizens and nursing homes. He also served on the Flag Committee to post Flags at all area cemeteries. Kenneth and his wife Zelma were charter members of the Lakes Area Campers since 1967 and enjoyed every minute. He is also a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post #3573.
Survivors include: his wife, Zelma of the home, three sons, Darrell Phillips and wife, Connie of Shreveport, La., Jerry Phillips and wife, Peggy of Hot Springs, Ark., and David Phillips and wife, Kay of Locust Grove; six grandchildren, Jerome and Damian Phillips of Shreveport, Jerrett and David Loyd Phillips of Locust Grove, Katrina (Phillips) Martin of Locust Grove and Michelle Lackey of Dallas, Tex.; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ervin (Dugie) Phillips of Locust Grove; two sisters Nadean Jackson of Rose, Okla. and Verda Watt of Jay and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Zelda Phillips, one infant granddaughter, one brother Melvin Phillips and his parents.
Funeral services for Kenneth David Phillips, 80 of Locust Grove were held Wednesday, June 16 in the Free Will Baptist Church of Locust Grove. Reverend Ray Gwartney officiated and burial followed in the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove.
Services were under the direction of the Key Funeral Home of Locust Grove, Oklahoma. The family wishes that memorials be made to the Free Will Baptist Church building fund of Locust Grove.

FRANK ELMER POWERS
1919 - 2004
WICHITA, Kan. - Frank E. Powers, age 84, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 in the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. The son of John and Mattie (Guinn) Powers, he was born on December 11, 19191. He lived in the Zena area until 1950 when he moved to Wichita. Frank attended the Victory Praise Fellowship in Wichita. He worked for Cargill as a flour miller until retiring in 1980.
Survivors include: his wife, Beulah Powers of Wichita; three sons, Frank Powers and wife, Marlene, Sam Powers and wife, Alice and Ralph Powers and wife, Barbara; two daughters, Leatha Sutter and husband, Steve and Reva Powers; two sisters, Bobbie Mitchell and ruby Martin; a brother, Joe Powers; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be on Thursday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Butler Baptist Church. The interment will be in the Snell Cemetery. There will be a visitation at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

LORI ANN KIRK-WHITETREE
1964 - 2004
MIAMI, Okla. - Lori Ann Kirk-Whitetree passed from this life on June 4, 2004 at her home in Miami after an illness.
She was born October 24, 1964 in Wasco, Calif., moving to Grove when she was eight years old. She had lived in Miami for the last 15 years.
She was a mother and homemaker, her family being the center of her life.
Lori was preceded in death by a son, Austin Kirk of Miami, her grandfather, Howard Stephens of California and grandparents Dave and Dottie Hutson of Missouri.
Lori is survived by two children, Terisa and Davis, spouse, Tracy Whitetree all of the home. Also her brother, Warren Robison, sister Carrie Hurley, mother, Sue Robison and stepfather Steve Robison, all of Grove. Grandmother Maebelle Stephens of California. Several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Lori and her wonderful sense of humor will be very much missed.
Services were held June 7 in Miami at Paul Thomas Funeral Home. Burial was held at GAR Cemetery in Miami.

ALLEN DAVIS JOHNSON
1930 - 2004
FORT SCOTT, Kan. - Allen Davis Johnson, age 74, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died early Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his home following a cancer illness. He was born May 12, 1930, in Winona, Minn., the son of Leslie Johnson and Martha Olson Johnson. He married Janet Marlene Heckerman on March 26, 1954 in Wellington, Kan. Allen received his college degree in 1956 from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan. He served with the U.S.A.F. during the Korean War. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson made their home in Hays, Kan. prior to moving to Grove in the early 80's. Allen was service manager for the Lungren Chevrolet dealership in Grove prior to his retirement and moving to Fort Scott. He was a member of the Winona, Minnesota First United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Marlene, of the home; three sons, Curtis Johnson and wife, Rachel of Dodge City, Kan., Kris Johnson and wife, Laurie of Wakeeney, Kan. and Kip Johnson and wife, Gena of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Candy O'Gara and husband, Mark of Fort Scott; two brothers, Jerry Johnson of Cambodia and Glen Johnson of Lincoln, Neb.; one sister , Dallas Polus of Winona, Minn.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Jeremiah O'Gara.
Jeff Lungren, business associate and long time friend, will conduct funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17 in the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Rachel Johnson, daughter-in-law, will give the Eulogy. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16 in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to either Hospice, Inc. or the American Cancer Society and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P. O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701.

RONNAN DALE TIPTON
1939 - 2004
MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho - Ronnan Dale Tipton, 65, of Mountain Home Idaho, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 10, 2004. He was born January 31, 1939 in Chillicothe, Mo. to Leonard and Martha Tipton. He was the Youngest of eight children, he was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers and one sister.
He married Kathy Carrol of Twin Falls, Idaho in 1966, they had four children Travis, Ronnan, Judy and Renee, all of the Boise, Idaho area.
Survivors include: two brothers Gerald Tipton and wife, Linda of Picher, Okla. and Herman Tipton and wife, Thelma of Mount Ayr, Iowa and two sisters Marie Miller of Commerce and Kathleen Miller and husband, Don of Grove .
Ronnan lived in the Grove area several years when he was younger, before moving to Idaho, remaining there till his death.
He has several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
He became a born again Christian in 1980. He battled diabetes, a bad heart and cancer for several years but he always kept his faith in the Lord.
He died in a nursing home in Mountain Home. He was cremated, his ashes will be brought back to be buried at a later date at the Hickory Grove Cemetery.

EDNA LAWSON KIRK
1910 - 2004
BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. - Edna Lawson Kirk, formerly of 600 Center Street in Grove, Oklahoma, died at 6:45 a.m., Tuesday July 27, 2004. Edna was born on May 17, 1910 at Scammon, Kansas to Graves and Pricilla Jeffries Lawson. She was married to Clifford N. Kirk. He preceded her in death.
Edna was a self-employed beauty operator. She had lived in Grove since 1970 moving there from Columbus, Kansas.
Surviving is one brother, Martin Albertson of Riverton, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Friday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Hosey Hill Cemetery. Rev. Joe Lynn Robbins will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kansas.

MELVIN E. RINEHART
1941 - 2004
JOPLIN, MO - Melvin E. Rinehart, resident of Miami, died at 5:51 a.m., Monday, July 26, 2004, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, after a sudden illness. He was 62.
He was born Aug. 25, 1941, at Allen, OK, to Vernon and Leanora Collins Rinehart. He served in the U.S. Army for nine years. He was a retired welder with the Frisco/Burlington Northern Railroad. He married Karen Overturf on June 19, 1970, in Oklahoma City. They lived in the OKC area until 1976, when they moved to Northeast Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, of the home, a son and his wife, Jeffrey and Lynda Rinehart, of Baxter Springs; two daughters and their husbands, Rebecca and Bryan Tweet, and Nora and Casey Hopkins, all of Miami; four brothers, Jim Rinehart, Leroy Rinehart, and Johnny Rinehart, all of OKC, and Wayne Rinehart of Newcastle; a sister Donia Mannon Pellietier of OKC, and six grandchildren.
He was preceded by a brother, Leon Rinehart.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2004, at First Assembly of God Church in Afton, with Rev. Greg Hiseley officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenny Kelsey, Thomas Helm, Eric Colby, Jimmy Jones, Steve Wheeler, and Jamie Kelsey. Burial will be at Sixkiller Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 147 Veterans Funeral Detail.
A visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Adcock Funeral Home in Afton. Arrangements provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Afton.

ROY E. GRISHAM
1925 - 2004
JAY , OKLA - Roy E. Grisham, 78, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 in Fairfax, Virginia.
The son of Asa and Della Marie Grisham, Roy was born on December 6, 1925 in Basehor, Kansas. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was married to Joyce Kingfisher who preceded him in death on March 28, 1994. Roy worked as a gardener for Franks Nursery. He participated in the Red Cross and Veterans groups.
Survivors include one son, Gary; four brothers, Robert, Wilber, Claude and Ralph; three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Roundsprings Cemetery with the Grove Veterans Ritual Team officiating.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, Oklahoma.

LINDA DARLENE (HALL) SMITH
1960 - 2004
JOPLIN, Mo. – Linda Darlene Hall Smith was born January 24, 1960 at W. W. Hasting's Indian Hospital at Tahlequah, Okla. She departed this life on July 22. 2004 in Joplin, Mo. She had lived in the Southwest City and Grove area most of her life.
She was married on September 19, 1979 in Miami, Okla. to Gary Lynn Smith, and he survives. Additional survivors include two children, Kevin Smith and Holly Smith, both of the home; her mother and stepfather, Frankie and Kenneth Drake of Southwest City, Mo.; her father-in-law and step mother-in-law, John and Collene Smith of Anderson, Mo.; her mother-in-law, Joanne Tilden of Gentry, Ark.; five sisters and one brother and their spouses, Debra and Mike Smith of Neosho, Mo., Patricia and Jerry Martin, Doris Smith, all of Southwest City, Mo., Kenneth and Paula Hall of Leach, Okla.; 26 nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews, two brothers in law and spouses, Mike and Debbie Smith of Southwest City, Mo., Larry Smith of Cherokee City, Ark.; one sister-in-law and husband, Julie and Mark Dixon of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and her grand mother-in-law, Grandma Smith of Joplin, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dean Hall of Tahlequah, Okla. and one nephew, James Dean Smith of Anderson, Mo.
Linda was the fourth great granddaughter of the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Tribe, Chief John Ross in Tahlequah, Okla. and was very proud of her heritage. She enjoyed quilting, fishing, bingo, and going to church. She especially enjoyed Grove Ridgerunner High School football, where her son Kevin played. She was a member of the Faith Pentecostal Church in Southwest City, Mo.
Funeral services for Linda Smith will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Full Gospel Church in Southwest City, Mo. Reverend Bennie Lukens and Reverend George Frye will officiate. Burial will be in the Southwest City Cemetery in Southwest City, Mo.
Kenny Gabriel, Bob Smith, Larry Smith, David Forcum, Junior Anderson, and Danny McCurrie will serve as pallbearers. Don Doutot, Mike Smith and Carl Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Ozark Funeral Home in the name of Linda Smith.
