FRED G. HANSON
1906 - 2004
GROVE, Okla. - Fred G. Hanson, 98, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Grand Lake Villa in Grove.
Fred Hanson was born on May 23, 1906 in Chicago, Ill. to Oscar and Pearl (Greenlee) Hanson. He was married to Mabel Owen for twenty years. He was an ordained Baptist minister and also owned Fred Hanson Pattern Works. Fred had lived in Grove for thirty-five years moving from Coffeyville, Kan. He was a member of Elk River Baptist Church in Grove.
Survivors include his wife Mabel Hanson of Grove; two children, Robert Hanson and wife, Diantha of Cherryvale, Kan. and Carol Fultz and husband Mike of Mound Valley, Kan.; one sister, Eleanor Maultsby of Conroe, Texas; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two previous wives, Bertha Seick Hanson and Letha Logan Hanson and one son, Harold James Hanson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2004 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coffeyville, Kan. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

REX STEWART
1929 -2004
Joplin, Mo. - Rex Stewart, devoted father & husband, 75, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 7, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Grove with Rev. Randall Hamill officiating. Masonic rites will be performed by Grove Masonic Lodge. Burial will follow at Olympus Cemetery.
Rex Stewart was born on August 30, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa to William W. and Mae (Ellison) Stewart. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Rex married Clarice Cox in Ottumwa, Iowa on October 3, 1951. He worked as a Construction Manager for Sutherland Lumber for forty-five years. Rex had lived in Grove for eighteen years moving from Joplin. He was a member of the Grove Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife Clarice of Grove; two sons, Jeffrey Stewart of Grove and Wayne Stewart and wife, Marilyn of Purcell, Mo.; five grandchildren, Sarah Stewart, Joseph Stewart, Little Rex Stewart, Katrina Oldham and Jennifer Oldham. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Order of Eastern Star Heart Fund.

RALPH W. HERMAN
1927 - 2004
BIG CABIN, Okla. - Ralph W. Herman, 77, longtime Big Cabin resident passed away at his residence Friday, October 1, 2004. Ralph was born on July 28, 1927 in Waterville, Kan., to Joe and Effie (Taylor) Herman.
Ralph attended church at the First Baptist Church in Big Cabin. When Ralph was 18 he started work on the M.K. & T. railroad, then worked at Eastern State Hospital for a while and also Herman's Country Kitchen. He finally decided to make his career as a truck driver.
Ralph leaves as survivors, his first wife Dorothy Balthis of Vinita. Children; Karen Orr and husband Bill of Big Cabin, Kathy Rhodes of Adair, Mark Herman and wife Debee of California, Gary Herman and wife Areta of Adair, Jerry Herman and wife Mary of Vinita. Step children; Evelyn Tippton of Adair, Catherine Asbury of White Oak, Lary Ruckman of Vinita and Donnie Ruckman of White Oak. Seventeen grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren. One sister Marjorie Dye of Texas. Two brothers Fred Herman and wife Wanda of Vinita and Viola Taylor of Miami. One uncle Willie B. Taylor of Vinita, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ralph was preceded in death by both of his parents, his second wife Willie Herman, stepson Ronnie Ruckman, two grandchildren; Roy Herman and Shawn Herman, one half brother and three half sisters.
Ralph's family will gather at Burckhalter Funeral Home on Tuesday evening October 5, 2004 from 6 to 7 p.m. to receive friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Big Cabin with Pastor Thom Duncan officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be grandsons Kenny Orr, David Herman, Jeremiah Herman, Christopher Herman, Bobby Rhodes and Ryan Herman. Honorary bearers will be Larry Hicks, Mitch Herman, Doug Herman, Stacy Herman, John Herman, Jim Herman, Dale Herman, Howard Herman and Kyle Dye and Robert Herman. Burial will follow at Bluejacket Cemetery.
The family is making donations in memory of Ralph to Trinity Hospice of Claremore and ask you do the same.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home of Vinita.

DARIN LEE MACY
1978 - 2004
HART, Mo. - Darin Lee Macy, 26 of Hart, Mo. went to his heavenly father in his heavenly home on October 2, 2004. He is survived by his loving parents Dan and Shirley Macy of Hart. His two brothers, and his best friends Mark and Lisa Macy of Hart; Brad and Melissa Macy of Baxter Springs, Kan. His niece Destiny Plank of Baxter Springs. His nephew Colton Plank of Baxter Springs. His grandmother Clorina Mersman of Hart.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Ed Mersman of Seneca, Mo. His grandparents Dalton and Betty Macy of Seneca. Darin attended Seneca Schools in Seneca, Mo. He will be missed by a host of family and friends.
His visitation will be held at Campbell Funeral Home in Seneca, October 5 at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Hart Cemetery for graveside services on October 6, 2004 at 10:00 am. Pastor Wesley Hembree and Donnie Tucker will be officiating at the services.

WALTER MILLER VENIS SR.
1919 - 2004
VINITA, Okla. - Walter Miller Venis Sr., 84 year-old former Miami and Fairland resident, died Monday, October 4, 2004, at Rosewood Terrace, Vinita. Mr. Venis was born October 3, 1919, at Hudson Creek, Okla., to Alvin and Nanny (Hudson) Venis. He was raised in Fairland and served with the 231st Army Air Force Unit. He returned to Fairland where he met his wife, Lois Juanita Blizzard. They were married on August 24, 1947, and celebrated 52 years of marriage. They moved to Miami where he worked for the B. F. Goodrich Company for 31 years, retiring in 1981. Upon retirement they moved back to Fairland where they loved until moving to Vinita in 1996. He enjoyed carpentry in his spare time and built their summer home on Grand Lake. He was always available to help others on their remodeling projects. He was a life-time member of the B. P. O. E. and the American Legion, serving a while on their Funeral Detail.
He is survived by; two sons, Walter "Dub" Venis Jr. and wife Anne, of Fairland and Jerry Lynn Venis of Vinita, one adopted daughter, Marilyn Venis of Glenpool, three granddaughters, Leah Clare, Mikki and Sara Venis and four great-grandchildren, a brother, Charles and wife Jean Venis of Miami, and a sister, Marie Armsgost, also of Miami. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a brother, Billy Venis, who was killed in Okinawa.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2004, at the Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be at Fairland Cemetery with the Grove Ritual Team performing military rites. A visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. A memorial service will be conducted at Rosewood Terrace in Vinita at a later date.
Arrangements provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Fairland.

NORMAN E. ADAMSON
1934 - 2004
COLUMBUS, Kan. - Norman E. Adamson, age 70, of rural Columbus, died at his home Friday morning, October 1, 2004 after a short illness.
Mr. Adamson was born May 1, 1934 at Columbus, the son of Ernest Adamson and Lavon Slover Adamson. He attended Columbus schools. He married Bruna Faye Judy on June 23, 1956 in Miami, Okla. He was parts manager for Ford Motor Company for 29 years. He then worked for Mattox Body Shop until his retirement.
Norman's passion in life included woodworking and being outdoors spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Adamson was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife of the home, two daughters, Norma Burnett of Miami, Okla., and Marla Glasgow of Columbus, Kan., three grandchildren and two step grandsons, one brother, Ray Adamson of Kansas City, Mo., three sisters, Aileen Mack and Margie Higginbotham of Columbus, and Marcia Mathes of Grove.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 4, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Edgmand Cemetery, rural Columbus, on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 with Reverend Don Flanner officiating. The family suggests memorial donations to the St. John's Cancer Center. Arrangements are being handled by Simpson Funeral Home, Columbus. WARREN ARMSTONG
1933 - 2004
KETCHUM, Okla. - Warren Armstong, of Ketchum, died Friday, October 1, 2004 at his home after a sudden illness. He was 70 years of age.
He was born October 16, 1933 at Tidioute, Pa. to Mead and Mary (Griffin) Armstrong. He had lived at the Coves at Bird Island since 1993 moving from Wichita, Kan.
Dr. Armstrong had received a Th. B. from the Baptist College and Seminary in Pennsylvania, and A. M. from the University of Michigan (History), a Ph. D. from the University of Michigan (History) and Holy Orders from the Diocese of Oklahoma being ordained in January 2003. He served as a supply priest for the Diocese of Oklahoma as assisting priest at All Saints Episcopal Church of Miami, Okla., from 2003 to the present. Dr. Armstrong had served with great distinction from 1993 - 1998 as President Emeritus; University Professor and from 1983 - 1993 as President and Professor of History at Wichita State University. From 1975 - 1983 he was President and Professor of History for Eastern New Mexico University at Portales, N.M., 1970 - 1975 he was Dean, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Professor of History for St. Cloud State University, 1965 - 1970, Associate Dean of College of Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor of History, The University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, 1961 - 1965, Assistant and Associate Professor of History at Olivet College (Michigan) and from 1954 - 1956 as Pastor, West Bainbridge Baptist Church (New York).
He was a member of the American Association of University Professors, the Organization of American Historians, the American Association for Higher Education, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities-Chair 1992 - 1993, Board of Visitors, Air University (United States Air Force), the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, member-consultant examiner corps, former member Commission of Institutions of Higher Education, the American Council on Education, member Kansas State Panel, the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Kappa, and Delta Sigma Pi. Dr. Armstrong was the author of several books and many articles and received recognition in the Directory of American Scholars, Who's Who in America, the Dictionary of International Biography, and Who's Who (International).
A dedicated family man he married Joan Gregory on April 19, 1974 at Minneapolis, Minn. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include; four daughters, Linda Armstrong, Heidi Neis and husband Dino, Susan Sohlo and husband Brad, Pamela Lawrence and husband Phil; one son, Jack Fitzsimmons and wife Laura; nine grandchildren, Amanda Neis, Matt Neis, Travis Fitzsimmons, Jack Fitzsimmons, Katie Fitzsimmons, Tyler Fitzsimmons, Madeline Lawrence, Huston Lawrence, and Maizie Lawrence.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 10:30 a.m., at All Saints Episcopal Church in Miami, Okla. Bishop Robert Moody and Fr. Noel Doherty will be officiating. Interment will be in the Hendersonville Cemetery at Mercer, Pa. The family suggest that memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers to All Saints Episcopal Church in Miami, Wichita State University, or Easter New Mexico University, Portales, N.M.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.

STEVE NORMAN BERRY
1949 - 2004
AFTON, Okla. - Steve Norman Berry, Afton resident, died at his home Friday at 11:45 p.m., October 1, 2004, after a lengthy illness. He was 55. He was born March 27, 1949, at Mangum, Okla., to Norman (Red) and Bonnie Johnson Berry. He worked as a receiving manager for Wal-Mart #22, Pryor, for 19 years. He married Becky Jean Wisdom on November 3, 1989. He moved to Afton in 1989, coming from Lindsey. He was an active member of the Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Afton, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and dominoes.
He is survived by his wife, Becky, of the home, his mother, Bonnie Berry of Cordell, three daughters, Michelle Jimmy and husband, Duke, of Yukon, Okla., Toni Moore and husband, Tom, of Eldorado, Kan., and Acacia Irvine of the home; three sons, Lance Irvine, Cody Berry, and Colt Berry, all of the home, a brother, Chris Berry of Weatherford, Okla., three sisters, Robin Dawson of Elk City, Okla., Stacy Spears and Tracy King, both of Lone Wolf, Okla., six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his father.
A funeral service was held Monday, October 4, 2004 at Trinity Southern Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Bunch officiated. Serving as pallbearers were Sam Ketcher, Allen Hines, Jim Wisdom, Tom Moore, Duke Jimmy, and Bobby Shinn. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at Willow Cemetery in Willow, Okla.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Trinity SBC Building Fund. Arrangements provided by Adcock Funeral Home of Afton.

MARVIN LOUIS CROSSNOE
1932 - 2004
GROVE, Okla. - Marvin Louis Crossnoe, 71, of Ketchum, Okla. and formerly of Flint, Mich. and St. Paul, Minn., died Friday, October 1, 2004 at Grand Lake Villa in Grove.
The son of Troy and Nina Barksdale Crossnoe, he was born November 9, 1932 in Trenton, Tenn. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as an airline mechanic for Northwest Airlines in St. Paul, until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Crossnoe had been a resident of Ketchum since 1993. He was a member of the Langley Chamber of Commerce and the Grove Moose Lodge. Mr. Crossnoe enjoyed playing Santa Claus for many community Christmas events.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Crossnoe of Eagen, Minn. and Darryl Crossnoe of Muldrow, Okla. A daughter, Dawn Luedman of Farmington, Minn., six grandchildren and one brother, Troy Crossnoe of Stanwood, Mich. Mr. Crossnoe was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the Hill Funeral Home, Grand Blanc, Mich., with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 4, 2004 at Ellis Family Funeral Home, Grove.
Services are entrusted to the Ellis Funeral Home, Grove.
