JIMMY DALE "J.D." SHELLEY
1930-2005
Jimmy Dale "J.D." Shelley, 74, of Colcord, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, March 29 at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Arkansas.
Shelley was born May 27, 1930 in Delaware County, Oklahoma. He was a son of John Shelley and Teelie Bradon Shelley. He married Willa Mae "Bid" Clark on May 22, 1954 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He had been a truck driver and had retired from the Franklin Electric Company in Siloam Springs. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Shelley was preceded in death by one son, Mike Shelley, and one brother, Kenneth Shelley.
Survivors include his wife, Bid Shelley of Colcord; two sons, Curtis Shelley of Colcord, and David Shelley of Moseley, Oklahoma; one daughter, Julie Lockaby of Batesville, Arkansas; three brothers, Phagan Shelley, Lonnie "Doc" Shelley, and Bart Shelley, all of Moseley, Oklahoma; one sister, Maxine Allison of Moseley, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home Chapel from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.
Services will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 1. Rev. Brad Jinks will be officiating. Burial will be held at the Allen Cemetery under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

BETTY JONELL WALSH
1930-2005
GROVE, Okla. - Betty Jonell Walsh, 75, died Monday, March 28 in Grove, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Albert Hershell Allen and Ona May (Reid) Allen. She was born March 26, 1930 in Haskell County, Texas. She married James M. Walsh in 1947, and he preceded her in death on August 15, 1987. She worked as a nurse in the Denver, Colorado area. She attended the Bernice Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Joe Stephen Walsh and his wife Bobbie of Denver; one daughter, Deborah Serwa and her husband Paul of Winona, Minnesota; two brothers, Glyndal Allen and Dwayne Allen; one sister, Lawanna Conners; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves a special friend, Alan Countryman.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31 at Bernice Baptist Church. Internment will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 4 in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. The funeral is under the direction of he Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

FRANCIS I. BEGGS
1924-2005
GROVE, Okla. - Fran Beggs, age 80, died Mon., Mar. 28 in Grove. The daughter of John L. and Marie ‘Dillion” Smith, she was born on Aug. 11, 1924 in Liberty, Mo. Fran married Ralph E. Briggs and he preceded her in death in 1980. She worked for the First National Bank in Kansas City, Mo. retiring as the Office manager in 1974. They moved to the Grove area in 1974. She worked briefly for the First State Bank of Afton. Francis attended the Christian Church.
Survivors include 2 sons, Howard Le Cheek and wife Margaret of Grove, Ronald G. Cheek of Grove, a brother, Robert Smith of Kansas City, Mo., 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m on Thurs., March 31 at the Graveside in the Glen Ridge Cemetery in Liberty, Mo.
The services are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

IVAN EUGENE BRANTLEY
1920-2005
GROVE, Okla. - Ivan Eugene Brantley, 84 year-old Grove resident passed away Sun., March 27 at the Grand Lake Villa Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Ivan was born Sept. 16, 1920 in Skiatook, Okla. to Ples Orville Brantley and Rena Atkinson. He attended and was a graduate of Winfield High School in Winfield, Kan. Ivan served as a Technician 5th grade in the United States Army during World war II. He worked as a service technician for Sears in Buena Park and Santa Ana, Calif. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #794 in Santa Ana.
Ivan was united in marriage to Mary Louise Fromm on April 27, 1946. They moved to the Grove area in 1993 from Avila Beach, Calif. She preceded him in death on May 1, 1999. His parents and one brother, Bill Brantley also preceded him in death.
Surviving family members include; two sons, Donald Eugene Brantley of Santa Ana, Steve Brantley of Newport News, Va., one daughter, Carol Jean Coleman of Noel, Mo., one brother, Virgil Brantley of Lubbock, Tex., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There will be a private memorial service at a later date.

DONALD E. NOLEN
1920-2005
VINITA, Okla. - Donald E. Nolen, 84 of Vinita passed away Mon., March 28 at the V.A. Center in Claremore. Don was born on March 29, 1920 in Sapulpa, Okla. to Adker David and Telia Alice (Rogers) Nolen.
Don lived in Sapulpa until his family moved to the Roger’s family farm near Van Buren, Ark., while he was still a young boy. It was the Depression era where he dropped out of high school to help support his family. When World War II began Don was in the Arkansas National Guard, and was activated when Pearl Harbor was attacked. The family farm was purchased by the U.S. Government and is now part of Fort Chafe, Ark. Don’s family moved to California but he remained behind and married Elizabeth A. Lodes on Aug. 7, 1943 in Tulsa, prior to his shipment overseas. Don served in the north African and Italian Campaigns with the 36th infantry Division as an Artillery Officer from 1941 through 1945, and was awarded two bronze stars for his service.
After the war, Don moved to Vinita where he and Elizabeth operated a dairy for several years. Don purchased a semi truck and trailer in 1963 and hauled sand and rock until his retirement. Don enjoyed his family and spent many hours playing cards and dominoes with his good friends. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Don was also a member and past post commander of the American Legion Dale peace Post #40 of Vinita, and always enjoyed working at the annual Will Rogers Rodeo sponsored by the American Legion.
Survivors include six children; Donna B. Riddel of Wichita, Kan., Alice V. Nolen-Walston of Grafton, Ma., Mary M. Rattray, San Diego, Calif., Theresa L. Wadley and husband Don of Afton, Donald J. Nolen and wife Patty of Hartville, Mo., James E. Nolen and wife Debra of Coolin, Idaho. Twenty-seven grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren. One brother Lester Nolen of Spokane, Wa. One sister, Anita Pierce of Kermit, Calif. Sister-in-law Kunigunda Lodes and brother-in-law Paul Lodes of Vinita.
Don was preceded in death by both of her parents, wife Elizabeth Nolen and one brother, Roger Nolen.
The family will gather at Burckhalter Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with a Rosary Prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thurs., March 31 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Father Alex Kennedy officiating.
Arrangement are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home of Vinita.

Robert Eugene Armstrong
1927-2005
GROVE, Okla. - Robert Eugene Armstrong, 78, of Grove, died Friday, March 25 at his home.
Armstrong was born February 14, 1927, to Charles and Margaret (Delker) Armstrong at Howard, Kansas. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves. He worked for Elevator Construction Local 94 as a construction mechanic in Wichita, Kansas for 33 years. He was First Exalter Ruler of the Elks in Grove. He owned Armstrong Real Estate in Wichita and in Grove. He married Wilma Lawrence May 24, 1994 at Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rena, four brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife Wilma Armstrong of Grove; three sons, Robbie Armstrong of Florida, Randy Armstrong of Wichita, and Danny Armstrong of Wichita; two daughters, Beth Ann Young and Danna Houck, both of Wichita; one sister, Eva Herrera of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Olympus Cemetery in Grove with Lonnie Sanders officiating. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until noon Tuesday prior to services at Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma.

William F. "Billy" Bergman
1938-2005
GROVE, Okla. - William F. "Billy" Bergman, 66, of Tulsa, died March 25, 2005 at his home. Bergman was born April 22, 1938 in Grove.
Bergman and his wife were united in marriage March 8, 1980, in Tulsa. Bergman was employed in assembly and design for aircraft production. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a master gardener and enjoyed peach farming. He also enjoyed camping.
Bergman was baptized February 4, 2004 in Tulsa.
Survivors include his wife Carol; two sons, Darren Fritz and his wife Gail of Tulsa, and Matthew Fritz and his wife Jill of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Angela Nunneley and her husband Bryan of Tulsa; six grandchildren; a brother, Charles F. Bergman, and a sister, Marilyn Anderson.
Bergman was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m Monday, March 28, 2005 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, with Mr. Leonard E. Bergman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, 711 S. Main in Grove.

Eugene "Gene" Boyd
1921-2005
GROVE, Okla. - Eugene "Gene" Boyd, 83, of Grove, died Saturday, March 26 at the Grove Nursing Center.
Boyd was born August 11, 1921 to Alma and Nancy (Inlow) Boyd at Burns, Kansas. Her served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as an accountant for Texaco Oil Company for 32 years, and he retired in 1981.
Boyd married Francis Anderson Boyd May 21, 1940 in Grove. She preceded him in death January 21, 1992. He later married Roberta "Billie" (Edwards) Boyd July 1, 1995 at Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Boyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. He was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Franklin Boyd, and one brother, Lloyd Franklin Boyd.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Boyd, of Grove; one son, Joe Eugene Boyd and wife Stacey of Garfield, Arkansas; one stepdaughter Karen Sartain of Collman, Alabama; three grandchildren, Kylee, Amanda, and Whitney; one niece, Tracy Brown of Denver; and several cousins.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Internment will follow at the Olympus Cemetery in Grove. Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

Cathy Jo (Mullen) Fisher
1965-2005
Cathy Jo (Mullen) Fisher, 39, died Friday, March 25 at St. John's Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri, from injuries suffered in a car accident.
Fisher was born April 1, 1965 in Baxter Springs, Kansas, to Ralph and Mary Ann Mullen. She attended elementary school in Commerce and Wyandotte, Oklahoma. She was a 1983 graduate of Grove High School. She received a degree in Cosmetology from the Northeast Oklahoma Technical School in Afton. She was a full-time and devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She had a zest for life and lived each minute to the fullest, and she brought much love and happiness to all who knew her.
Cathy will forever be mourned by her loving husband, Neal, of the home; son Korey Merrill of Joplin; daughter Ashley Merrill of the home; parents Ralph and Betty Mullen of Miami, Oklahoma, and Oakley and Mary Ann Warren of Grove; sisters Angela Greer of Miami, Melissa Charpentier of Grove; may loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of good friends.
A visitation will be held in the First Assembly Church in Commerce, Oklahoma from 7-8 p.m. Monday, March 28.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Assembly Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, with Rev. Mike Bunch officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Fisher's much-loved nephews, Brandon Neal, Daymon Fisher, Josh Charpentier, Tyeson Merrill, Ryan Barnes, and Chris Conell.
Fisher will be laid to rest next to her much-loved Granny Brown in Olympus Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Jim Thomas of the Thomas Funeral Home in Welch, Oklahoma.
