MODREL SERGEANT HUTCHENS
1922-2005
COLCORD, Okla. - Modrel Sergeant Hutchens, 83 year-old resident of Colcord, Oklahoma, died November 15, 2005, at Northwest Medical Center, Springdale, Arkansas. Born July 15, 1922, in Sunset, Arkansas, he was the son of Odus L. Hutchens and Effie Horn Hutchens. Moving to Oklahoma in the 1930, he grew up in Mazie. Later he lived in Oklahoma City, Midwest City, and Noble, and spent his later years in Colcord, Oklahoma. He graduated from Mazie High School in 1941. He was a popular student and active in sports, and worked on the family farm. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. Modrel was a Vendor and Sales Manager for Borden Milk Company in Oklahoma City and was a member of the Scottish Rite Blue Lodge 532 in Midwest City, the General Chapter OES Midwest City, the Masonic Lodge in Midwest City, and the Colcord Missionary Baptist Church, Colcord, Oklahoma. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and was a master gardener. Modrel married Lois McKelvey Hagar on January 2, 1987 in Colcord. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Viva Catherine Tillman Hutchens in 1986; and one sister, Ellen Wood.
Survivors include his wife Lois Hagar Hutchens of the home; two sons, Richard Modrel Hutchens of Katy, Texas, Franklin Hutchens and wife Dianne of Miller, Missouri; one daughter, Cynthia Hutchens Hall and husband Glenn of Windsor, California; one stepson, Kenneth Hagar and wife Jan of Colcord, Oklahoma; two step-daughters, Jean Hickman and husband Bill of Colcord, Oklahoma, and Joan McBride and husband Roland of Grove, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five step great grandsons; two sisters, Ruth Horton, and Ruby Taylor, both of Wagoner, Oklahoma; and one brother, Billy Jack Hutchens and wife Mary Lou, of Wagoner, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, with Brother Doug Moore and Brother Ralph Walker officiating. JAMES WHEDON HOWE
1941-2005
GROVE, Okla. - James Whedon Howe, 64-year-old Grove, Oklahoma resident, passed away Monday, November 14, 2005 at his home following an extended illness.
James was born June 23, 1941 in Escondido, California to William Bingham Howe, Jr. and Marion Cumming Smith Howe. He attended Escondido High School and Palomar Junior College. He served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965 and was a member of the local chapter of Vietnam Veterans. He was a retired pastor.
James was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Gaddis on May 19, 1988 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Surviving family members include: Margaret of the home, two step-daughters; Carol Welch of Plano, TX, Sharon Leach of Bartlesville, OK, one step-son; Michael Helm of Cleburn, TX, two brothers; William B. Howe III of Loveland, CO, Louis Denton Howe and seven step-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be private family services held at a later date.

JOHNNY S. JACKSON
1931-2005
GROVE, Okla. – Johnny S. Jackson, 74, died early Friday morning, November 18, 2005 at his home in Grove.
Johnny was born March 23, 1931 in Kansas, Oklahoma to Walter and Montrilla (Strait) Jackson. He was a lifetime resident of Delaware County. Johnny married Imogene (Jean) Reeves in 1951 in Arkansas. She preceded him in death January 28, 2005. Johnny was a member of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department for many years. He was also a Grove Police officer and served as Chief of Police in West Siloam Springs and Colcord, Oklahoma. Johnny worked security for Wal-Mart and had his own trucking company for many years. He was also a former Delaware County Commissioner for District 1 and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Johnny enjoyed dancing and being a full time, loving grandpa.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny David Jackson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and David Paul Jackson of Springdale, Arkansas; two daughters, Judy Kay Jackson of Springdale and Tammy Glenn Records of rural Grove, Oklahoma; one brother, Roy “Tucker” Jackson of Grove and a sister, Juanita Kopp of Tulsa; seven grandchildren, including Timmy Rail Glenn and Tandy Glenn, Cammy Harp and Dillon Records, all of Grove and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Houston Jackson and two sisters, Anna Mae Johnson and Ruth Wilkerson.
Funeral services for Johnny S. Jackson will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at First Christian Church of Grove with Dr. Wayne Shaw and Rev. Dolphus Blevins officiating. Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Grove, Oklahoma, under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove. The family will receive friends, Monday, November 21, 2005, 6-8 p.m. at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, Grove.

RAY LEHMAN
1925-2005
GROVE, Okla. - Ray Lehman past to his Heavenly Father Sunday November 20, 2005 at the Grand Lake Villa in Grove after complications with Parkinson disease. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Grove.
Ray was born April 12, 1925 to Chris and Hulda (Stromer) Lehman at Waterloo, Iw. He worked as a crane operator for Belger Construction, and Lippert Construction in Oklahoma City before retiring in 1981. He married Darlene Campbell October 22, 1944 at Waterloo, Iw. After retirement they moved to Grove, Ok. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grove, a perpetual member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, Eastern Star and A.A.R.P. and previous member of the Lions Club. Ray served his community along with his son helping people move and always offering his assistance to those in need.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Darlene Lehman of Grove. Two daughters: Raynette Adams and husband Roswell of Grove, Marcia Sawyer and husband Carl of Jupiter, Fl.; four grandchildren, Christy Sawyer and Brannon Sawyer of Jupiter, Fl., Darla Adams of Tulsa and Kimberly Condit and husband, Jack of Stillwater; one great granddaughter, Maddie Condit; two step grandchildren, Vickie Adams and Mark Adams; three step great grandchildren, David Abbott, Monica Abbott and Angel Abbott; four brothers, Harry Lehman and wife, Connie, Vernon Lehman and wife Marcella, Robert Lehman and wife, Marlys, and John Lehman; four sisters Darlene Sherwood and husband Bill, Florence Tovar and husband, Mike, Edna Briscoe and husband J.D.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Evelyn Sapp, Viola Klebs and Margaret Springer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to Parkinsons Research or First United Methodist Church of Grove Building Fund.

DAYNA MAXINE LINN
1926-2005
Dayna Maxine Linn, former Afton resident, died at Family Care Center in Fairland, Friday, November 18, 2005, after a lengthy illness. She was 79. She was born October 13, 1926, in rural Afton, to John and Mabel (Pyatt) Oakley. She married Raymond Linn on Apr. 2, 1947. He preceded her in death. She had worked as a line worker for TRW Cinch in Vinita. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Afton. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands; Linda and Larry Chrisco of Fairland, Janct and David Blanton of Afton; a brother, Leo Oakley of Sperry, OK., five sisters, Emmalese Rider and Cauline King, both of Afton, Pauline Harrison and Rowena Countryman, both of Englewood, CO., and Fern Overacre of Fairland, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21, at Sixkiller Cemetery, SE of Afton, with Rev. Larry Larive officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Chrisco, David Blanton, Brian Blanton, Ashley Blanton, Jordyn Blanton, and Kyleigh Blanton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the memorials be made to the First Assembly of God Church Building Fund. The body will lie in state at Adcock Funeral Home in Afton. Services provided by Adcock Funeral Home in Afton.

MARY FRANCES OLDS
1925-2005
Mary Frances Olds went to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, November 8, 2005. Mary was born to W. W. “Blackie” and Jessie Alice Prather on December 25, 1925 in Grove, Oklahoma. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Jack and Helen Bolton of Grove, OK, Johnny and CJ Bolton of Colleyville, TX; four grandchildren, Cheryl Fregin of Wann, Ok, Kevin Bolton of Jean, NV, Tammy Bolton of Bentonville, AR, Brandi Breaud of Arlington, TX; eight great-grandchildren, Chad and Jared Barr, Belinda Rawlingson, Jacklynn Bolton, David and Danny Hanson, Chance Schubert Brittany Breaud; two brothers, Bill and Ruth Edan of Joplin, MO, Johnny D. Pollan of Bellavista, AR; two sister, Hazel Fisher and Delores Cook, both of Bartlesvilla, OK; and many wonderful friends.
Mary Was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, a brother, and various other friends and relatives. Mary worked serving the public in the restaurant industry and taxi service for nearly 45 years of her life in Las Vegas, NV, Bartlesville, OK, and Grove, OK. Mary was a kind, generous and loving person who was loved by everyone who knew her. A memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 501 S. Main Street. Mary will be cremated and buried with her favorite grandma in Grove, OK. Burial services will be private.
We would especially like to thank the staff of Grand Lake Villa Nursing Home, and her roommate, Erma Chandler, for being so loving and caring of Mary during her stay.

GAYE (ETHRIDGE) SMITH
1957-2005
GROVE, Okla. - Gaye (Ethridge) Smith, 48, died Friday, November 18, 2005 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born August 2, 1957 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Joe and Joyce Ethridge. She was the oldest of two girls. She graduated from Wagoner High School and later earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Reading Education at Northeastern State University. She was an elementary and reading teacher who loved and cared for her students. She is survived by two beautiful daughters, Paige and Shannon Smith, her father, Joe Ethridge and her sister Libby Ethridge.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Grove United Methodist Church. The family will have a visitation at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A reception will follow the funeral service and interment will be in Bixby Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma.

ROY RALPH SPRINGER
1937-2005
Roy Ralph Springer, a 68-year-old Tulsa resident, passed away on November 11, 2005. He loved to write poetry and to help people. Survivors include Ex-wife Wilma Miller of Casa, AR; Sons Ron Springer and wife Judy of Jay, OK, Roy Springer, Jr. and wife Myra of Friendship, AR, Leon Springer and wife Laura of Ashdown, AR. Rick Springer and wife Rebecca Springer of Tulsa. 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, Brothers Lester Springer of Tulsa, Floyd Springer of Catoosa, Johnnie Springer of McAlester, Ray Springer of Oklahoma City. Sisters Faye Bacon Terry of Wyandotte, OK, Ellie Carter of Red Oak, OK. Many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by, Parents Lestel and Thelma Springer and brother Paul Springer. Services were held Tuesday November 15 at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. with Reverend Fred Redfern officiating. Burial services provided by Johnson Funeral Home of Sperry Oklahoma.

HARRY H. SYNAR
1919-2005
GROVE, Okla. - Harry H. Synar of Grove died at 3:55 a.m., Monday November 14, 2005 at the St. John’s Regional Medical Center Joplin after a long illness. He was 85.
Synar was born November 21, 1919 at Wellston, Oklahoma to Frank J. and Adelaide (Peterson) Synar. Harry and five brothers grew up on a farm on Derdy Creek located near Warner, Oklahoma.
He attended a one-room elementary school at Lone Star for eight years.
Harry graduated from Connors State College High School in 1938 and attended his freshman year of college at Connors, where he was president of the freshman class. Other schooling included graduate school at the Oklahoma State University in 1949, and a Master’s Degree in Animal Science at the University of Arizona in 1958.
Graduating from Oklahoma A & M College in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Husbandry and Economics, Harry attended the U.S. Naval Midshipman School at Columbia University in New York City. He was commissioned as Ensign in February 1943.
He served as officer courier for the commander of landing craft and bases, Northwestern African waters. He then served as a staff officer with the Commander of the 8th Amphibious Force in North Africa, Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, and Southern France invasions of 1943-45. Harry retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade in 1947. He is a life member of the D.A.V., V.F.W., and the American Legion. In 1951 he and his late wife Bonnie hosted the reunion of the crew of the U.S.S. Biscayne in Tulsa and at their home on Grand Lake.
Harry married Bonnie Phillips at her parents’ ranch near Fairview, February 21, 1943. After a ten day honeymoon, he was sent to the Mediterranean for two and one-half years later he returned home. They were married for 63 years. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2005.
Survivors include three children Drs. Bonita Carson M.D. and husband Stanley Carson M.D., Denver, Colorado, Dr. Phil Synar M.D. and his wife Rebecca, Grove, OK, Susan Griffith M.B.A. and her husband Jim, Stillwater, OK; his step-mother, Sevilla Synar, Muskogee; six brothers, Edmond Synar, Muskogee, Val and Agnes Synar, Talala, OK, John and Barbara Synar, Warner, OK, Tim and Mary Synar, Roger and Cheryl Synar, both of Muskogee, Kenneth and Pat Synar, Pryor, OK; three sisters, Edith Jane and her husband Richard Ulmer, Tucson, AZ, Fran and Tom Craig, Murfreesboro, TN, and Jackie and Harry Clarke of Afton, OK; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
After World War II he served as Osage County Extension Agent and then worked as the Chairman of the Division of Agriculture Sciences and Industry at Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College for 35 years.
With the goal of enhancing the image of agriculture, he was particularly active in promoting 4-H and FFA work. He established the Agriculture Interscholastic Contests and Awards program in 1948 and served as chairman for thirty-three years. The annual event attracts some three thousand 4-H and FFA competitors each year. In 1982, the thirty-fourth event was dedicated to him, as founder.
In addition to managing the college farm and a modern dairy at NEO A & M he taught courses in animal science, poultry production, farm management, economics, and math. He coached the livestock judging team that won forty-first place team awards in fifty-six major contests.
Some of the honors received include presenting President Roosevelt with a gavel representing the nation’s 4-H Clubs in 1939, serving as Oklahoma 4-H Club President 1938-39, national champion livestock judge in 1937, and reserve national 4-H leadership winner in 1938. He is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and Alpha Zeta, National Agriculture Honor Fraternity, and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, Blue Key Award as 1942 top grad in leadership and fellowship.
Later honors include: Four States Agriculture Hall of Fame; Distinguished Service Award by O.S.U.; Ag Alumni Association; Degree of Honorary American Farmer at the National FFA Convention in Kansas City; O.S.U. Animal Science Distinguished Graduate Award; O.S.U. Ag Economics appreciation Award; Honorary Home Economist Award; Northeast Oklahoma Electric Coop Rural Youth Dedication Award; honored by the college of Agriculture, Oklahoma State University for outstanding leadership and service to Oklahoma Higher Education, and many other honors through his work with students.
After retiring in 1981, he continued cattle ranching while living on Grand Lake. He was a Rotarian, and a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Miami. Mr. Synar served four years as vice-president and president of the Delaware County Retired Educators.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. K. Andrea Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Griffith, Alan Synar, Stanley T. Synar, Jr., Larry Synar, David Synar, and Bryan Carson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Stanley Carson, Don Hodges, Bill Able, Dr. Robert Swanson, Oran Need, Edmond Synar, and Val Synar.
The Floyd L. Perry American Legion Post of Miami will conduct Veterans Burial rites at the graveside.
The family will receive friends at the Cooper-Althouse Chapel Wednesday from 7 until 8 p.m. Memorial Contribution may be made to the NEO Foundation in memory of Mr. Synar and may be sent in care of the Funeral Home.

GAYLA SUE TAYLOR
1973-2005
COLCORD, Okla. - Gayla Sue Taylor, 32 of Colcord passed away late Monday, November 14, 2005 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Gayla was born on February 15, 1973 in Siloam Springs, Ark. to Howard and Brenda (Cannady) Andrews.
Gayla loved riding horses, painting and taking care of people. On August 4, 1992 in Fayetteville, Arkansas Gayla was united in marriage to Charles Taylor and from this union an beautiful daughter was born, Lisa.
Gayla leaves as surviving her husband Charles and daughter Lisa of the home. Father Howard Andrews of Colcord. Mother Brenda Wiggins and husband Art of Sialoam Springs. Paternal grandmother Bessie Andrews of Colcord. Maternal grandmother Dora Burfind also of Colcord. Sisters and brothers Betsy Burton and husband Anthony of Colcord, Gretchun Tacker of Colcord, Jesse Ross of Little Kansas, Howard Andrews, Jr. of Colcord and Amanda Peak and husband Michael of Colcord. Nieces; Vickie Burton, Jessica Burton, Rosealee Andrews, Summer Ross and Katlin Peak. Nephews; Jerry Tacker, Sebastian Peak and Gabriele Peak. And a host of friends.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in memory of Gayla to a trust fund for Lisa.
A family gathering will be on Thursday evening November 17, 2005 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapels in Jay.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 18, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs with Larry Ellis officiating.
