STEVE PARR
1944-2006
PRATT, Kan. – Steve Parr, age 61, died suddenly last Thursday evening following a December illness. The only son of Ben and Helen Parr, both deceased, Steve was born on December 19, 1944 at Hardtner. His beloved grandparents, Gertrude Earnhart and Luther Parr were both long time resident of the Pratt and Medicine Lodge areas. As a youth, Steve was also cared for and much loved by Ed and Ethel Batchelder.
Steve graduated Pratt High School in 1963 and attended Pratt Junior College from 1963 to 1965. Following junior college, Steve worked at the Cessna Corporation until 1967 when he went to work as a salesman for Beech-Nut/Lifesavers. That same year, Steve married Nancy C. DeVault on October 8, 1967 and lived in Wichita until 1974. His only wife, Steve and Nancy were married for 20 years.
In 1974, Steve returned to Pratt and went into business for himself as “Steve’s Carpet Cleaning,” which he owned and operated until shortly before his death. In 1987, Steve began a second business, “Green Acres Lawn Service,” which he also operated until his death.
Steve was one of the country’s most accomplished outdoorsmen. He was highly skilled in trapping, hunting, fishing, camping, tracking, game calling, reloading and lead shot smelting. He was an expert in trap and skeet shooting and won well over 100 trophies, prizes and ribbons over the years. In addition to serving two terms as President of the Pratt Gun Club, Steve was an active member of the Pratt Elks Lodge BPOE 1451, American Legion, VFW, Ducks Unlimited, Quails Unlimited, The Nature Conservatory, the American Numismatics Society, Bass Anglers Sportsmen Society and the North American Hunting Club.
Steve was also an avid Indian artifact hunter and amateur Native American Indian historian and archaeologist. Additionally, he was a well-known coin collector. His collection included many 19th century American coins and virtually all 20th century American coins.
He is survived by two sisters, Casey Dodd of Grove, Okla., and Barbara Schulte of Russell, Ark.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 27, at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt with Chaplain Fred Pinkerton officiating. Burial followed at 3:30 p.m., at Highland Cemetery in Medicine Lodge, Kan.
Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited, Quails Unlimited, or the Nature Conservatory in care of Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Rd., Pratt KS 67124.

SYLVIA ANNE FAY WILLIS
1941-2006
VINITA - Sylvia Anne Fay Willis, 64, of Vinita, Okla., passed away on March 25, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after an extended illness. Born on September 24, 1941 in Sayre, Penn., Sylvia was the daughter of Elwin “Cricket” Fay and Loretta Fuller-McKay Fay. Sylvia was a 1959 graduate of Athens High School.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, shopping, and country western music. Sylvia loved animals, especially hummingbirds, chipmunks, and her beloved dogs. She also loved dancing.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Lee Willis, of Vinita; two daughters, Lisa Kuhns of Reading, Penn., and Tina Dalrymple and husband, Brett, of Williamsport, Penn.; stepson, James Willis, of Denton, Texas; brothers, Maurice Fay and wife, Louise, of Sayre, and Bruce Fay and wife, Sylvia, of Sayre; mother-in-law, Alleen Willis, of Houston, Texas; special friend, Doris Wagnon, of Strang, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Audrey Fay Macafee, and Audrey’s husband, Mac.
Services will be held at Burckhalter Funeral Home in Vinita, on Wednesday, March 29, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Bradford officiating. Pallbearers will be Bruce Fay, Maurice Fay, Brett Dalrymple, James Willis, Bobby Wagnon and DeWayne Wagnon. The burial will immediately follow at Talala Fairview Cemetery, Talala, Okla.
Arrangements are by the Burckhalter Funeral Home of Vinita.

PATRICIA ANN WOODS
1955-2006
JAY – Patricia Ann Woods, age 50, a resident of Colcord, Okla., passed away March 22, 2006, at the Monroe Manor in Jay, Okla.
Patricia was born July 17, 1955, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Eugene and Frances O’Neal. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene.
Survivors include: her husband, Bobby Woods of the home; mother, Frances O’Neal of Lanagan, Mo.; brother Mike O’Neal of Lanagan; two grandsons, Reese and Lucas Woods and their mother Charity Woods of Colcord; and one nephew, Quinton Woods of Lanagan.
A memorial service will be held at Crittenden Baptist Church in Watts, Okla., near Natural Falls State Park on Wednesday, March 29, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Calvin Pathkiller will officiate the service. Burial of cremains will be held at Dickson Cemetery in Cherokee City, Ark.

J.R. ALEXANDER
1925-2006
JAY, Okla. - J. R. Alexander, 80, died Jan. 7, 2006 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Memorial services will be Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at the Community of Christ, Grove, Okla. with Elder Nolan Scarberry and Evangelist Bob Casino officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community of Christ Oblation World Hunger Fund in care of Ellis Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, Okla. 74344.
J.R. was born Aug. 30, 1925 in Kansas City, Mo. the son of Thomas E. and Mary C. Hieronymus Alexander. He was united in marriage to Georgia M. Carson July 13, 1946 in Sedalia, Mo. He was employed as a master dental technician until his retirement in 2005. He served during WW II as a member of the United States Merchant Marines. J. R. was a member of the Community of Christ, Grove, Okla. where he served as an elder.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating and loved being on the lake. It was very important to Mr. Alexander that at the time of his death he could be a connective tissue and organ donor.
Survivors include his wife Georgia of the home, two daughters, Linda Jane Seeley and her husband Jim of Huntington Beach, CA and Cathy Giles and her husband David of Lee’s Summit, Mo. A son, Rusty Alexander and his wife Linda Joan of Grove, Okla. Four grandchildren, Jason Seeley, Ben Seeley, Amanda Giles and Christopher Giles. Two brothers, David Alexander of the Kansas City, Mo. area and Ralph Alexander of Independence, Mo. Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Dr. Robert Alexander and Wayne Alexander.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, Okla.

EDWIN DEE (PETE) ANDREWS
1924-2006
GROVE - Edwin Dee (Pete) Andrews, our beloved, caring, generous father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 in Tulsa, Okla., due to complications from an accident. Ed was born on August 16, 1924 in Grove, Okla., to Albert Sidney Andrews and Ida Orpha Lankford. He was the youngest of five children including Richard Andrews (deceased), Robert Andrews (Greenville, Texas), Joseph Andrews (deceased), and Bonnie Redels (Lubbock, Texas). Ed was the 1942 valedictorian of Grove High School and earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army as a part of Company G, 291st Regiment, 75th Infantry Division and fought valiantly in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge. He married Judy Ann Webb on October 1, 1954. Ed worked 42 years as a sales engineer for General Electric, retiring in 1991. In his retirement, he was active in his church, and was an avid runner and golfer. We cherish the laughs, the holiday gatherings, and his awful cooking, which we were able to share with him for many years. He is survived by four children, their spouses, and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11a.m., Saturday, February 11, at Park Plaza Church of Christ, 5925 E. 51st St., Tulsa. Flowers are welcome at the church or contributions may be made in his name to the Park Plaza missionary fund.

ADA MARIE ARMAGOST
1918-2006
MIAMI – Ada Marie Armagost, 87, died on Monday, March 6, 2006 at 11 a.m., at her home in rural Miami, Okla.
Born on June 1, 1918, she was a homemaker.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 10, at Narcissa Baptist Church in Narcissa, Okla.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 9, at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami.
Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery, Fairland, Okla.

CHESTER LEE BISHOP
1928-2006
CLAREMORE, Okla. – Chester Lee Bishop, formerly of Claremore, passed from this life on February 19, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.
Chester was born on October 15, 1928 at Jay, Okla., the son of Fred Bishop and Iva Mae Lackey Bishop who both preceded him in death.
Chester was married on May 27, 1948, to Mildred Joan Peek and to this union three sons were born: Ronald Eugene Bishop, deceased; Jimmy Leon Bishop of Tahlequah, Okla.; and Freddy Dewayne Bishop of Korea. His wife, Mildred, survives of the home on Grand Lake.
He had one brother, Edward Bishop, deceased; two sisters, Maxine Wilmore of Kansas City, Mo., and Dorothy Meadows, deceased; six grandchildren, Samuel Landis Bishop of Denver, Colo., Jessie Bishop of Indianapolis, Ind., Amy Nichole Bishop of Tulsa, Jason Wade Bishop of Muskogee, Okla., Sgt. Ronnie Bishop, USAF currently stationed in New Jersey, Joshua Bishop of Korea; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and close friends.
Chester worked for American Airlines as an aircraft mechanic for 30 years, retiring in 1983 at which time he and Mildred moved to Zena, Okla.
Services will be held at the Faith Mission Church in Jay on Thursday, February 23, at 11 a.m. Brother Chester Crittenden will officiate. The family has entrusted Turner Funeral Home, 311 W. Gray, Jay, for arrangements. Burial will be in the Indianola Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Turner Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 22, from 5 to 6 p.m.

GARY A. BLAIR
1939-2006
MIAMI – Gary A. Blair, a lifetime resident of Miami, Okla., died at St. John’s Regional Health Center in Joplin, Mo. Monday afternoon, March 13, 2006. He was 66. Gary was born December 15, 1939, to Jay and Mildred (Taylor) Blair, at Miami. He was a member of the Cherokee Nation. He was a veteran, having served in both the U.S. Navy and Army. He was retired from the Miami Housing Authority. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and an avid golfer and member of the Peoria Ridge Golf Club. He loved to help people in need, and continued to do so through death, by donating his corneas.
He is survived by: a daughter and her husband, Ronda and Freddy Drawbaugh of Ada, Okla.; a brother and his wife, Michael and Shirley Blair of Miami; a sister, Norma Gayle Harrison of Norman, Okla.; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a very special friend, Maye Culley, of the home. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March, 16, at First Baptist Church Miami, with Rev. Rick Longerier officiating. The family will receive friends at the home. The body has been cremated. Services are provided by Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation, in care of the funeral home.

LAURA BOLES
1920-2006
ANDERSON, Mo. - Laura Pearl Boles died Saturday March 11, 2006 at the McDonald County Nursing Home at Anderson, Mo. She was 84.
Laura was born May 15, 1920 to Walter and Annie (Karnes) Crippen at Barnsdall, Okla. She married Paul Boles in 1939 at Tulsa, Okla. He preceded her in death November 11, 2004. She was a homemaker and was a great cook. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Mae Boles; two sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Baker and husband Harold of Pineville, Mo.; one brother, Jessie Crippen and wife Carol of Miami, Okla.; five grandchildren, Paul Hopkins, Brian Hopkins, and Rick Hopkins; and five great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday March 15, at the Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville, Okla., Jerry Seigel to officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Okla.

ALMA MAE BORTMES
1932-2006
GROVE – Alma Mae Bortmes, 73, died Saturday morning, March 18, 2006 at Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Okla.
Alma was born May 27, 1932 at Tulsa, Okla. to Brack Butler and Meda (Simpson) Butler. She grew up in Skiatook, Okla. and on August 30, 1950, married Keith W. Bortmes at Stillwater, Okla. The couple lived in Tulsa for most of their lives, until his retirement from American Airlines. They moved to Grove in 1983. Mr. Bortmes preceded his wife in death November 5, 1993. Alma was a member of the Open Door Church in Tulsa and enjoyed line dancing.
Survivors are: her daughters, Vicki Gramolini and husband Dr. Gary Gramolini, of Tulsa and Sharon Lacey and husband Odis, of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Jimmy Butler and his wife Shirley, of Oologah, Okla. and Ronald Butler and his wife Roselle of Hillsboro, Texas; one sister, Rosalie Coffey of Alamo, Texas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 25, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.
