ALEXIS SKENAY’AH BURROUGHS
1991-2006
GROVE - Alexis Skenay’ah Burroughs of Grove, Okla., died Sunday March 12, 2006 in a traffic accident near Pampa, Texas. She was 14.
Miss Burroughs was born March 28, 1991 at Woodward, Okla. to Randy and Carole (Killion) Burroughs. She had been a life long resident of Grove and was a member of the 9th Grade Class of the Grove High School. She was active in Civic and school activities.
Alexis was a member of the Future Business Leaders of American, Family Career Community Leaders of America, Native American Performing Arts Troupe, and Student Council Reporter, a member of the Indian Heritage Club, and the Speech and Drama Club, and a member of the Long House Religion.
Survivors include: her parents Randy and Carole Burroughs of Grove; a sister, Amber Michelle Burroughs of Six Nations Reservation, Canada; a niece Bo Alexis Jacobs of Six Nations Reservation, Canada; her paternal grandparents Phillips and Janet Burroughs of Miami; her adopted grandmother Susie Nuckolls of Wyandotte; and her Godparents, Stanley and Maria Western of Bartlesville.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Claude Howard Killion.
Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 16, at the Council House Cemetery with the Tribal Speaker Ronnie White officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami.
Pallbearers will be Mark Burroughs, Austin Schmidt, Drew Ericson, Kessler Jacobs, Michael Marling, and Casey Merciez.
The wake will be held at the family home, 614 West 5th Street, Grove from 1 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Thursday

GARY CARNEY
1944-2006
GROVE, Okla. – Gary Carney, 61, died Monday, January 9, 2006 at Integris Grove General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 12, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Grove with Rev. Randy Hamill officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Ellis Funeral Home, Grove.
Gary Carney was born on July 20, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to Francis and Bessie (Bogard) Carney. He graduated from Blackwell High School in 1962 and received his Bachelors Degree from Wichita State University. Gary obtained his Masters Degree in Liberal Studies from the University of Oklahoma. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam era. Gary worked for Texaco Oil Co. for twenty-five years as a Senior Crew Representative. He previously worked for Boeing and DX/Sunray in Wichita.
Gary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grove, the Oklahoma Archeology Society, the Oklahoma independent Petroleum Association, the VFW and the American Legion. Gary lived in Belle Plain, Kansas, Mulvane, Kansas, Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Oklahoma City before moving to Grove two years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Carney of Grove; one son, David Carney of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Cyndi Kingfisher and husband, Ronnie of Wyandotte, Ok; one granddaughter, Kyah Kingfisher of Wyandotte; two sisters, Frances Shoffner and husband, Wayne of Braman, Ok. and Barbara Tabor and husband Jack of Edmond, Ok; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are entrusted to Ellis Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Grove, Ok. 74344, 918-786-5172.

JIM A. CARSON
1942-2006
VINITA, Okla. - Jim A. Carson, 63 former Vinita resident passed away early Wednesday morning January 11, 2006 at his residence in Claremore after an extended illness. Jim was born on July 31, 1942 in Hemet, California to Albert H. and Marie (Fawcett) Carson.
Jim worked at Eaton Corporation in the shipping and receiving department. Before his illness Jim liked to cook. And later his enjoyed watching cooking shows. Jim served his country in the United State Navy from November 1959 to July 1963. On December 5, 1963 Jim was united in marriage to Mary R. Scott in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jim leaves as surviving his wife Mary Carson of the home. Son and daughter-in-law Danny Carson and Tracy of Vinita, son and daughter-in-law Jeff Carson and Micah of Joplin, MO., daughter and son-in-law Debbie Wolfe and Corey of Claremore. Eight grandchildren Kirk, Chelsea, Kallee, Noah, Branna, Chris, Brooklyn and Kami. One brother Herb Carson of Ohio. One sister and brother-in-law Sybil Maxwell and Jim of Texas.
His mother Marie Perry, father Albert Carson, Brother Joe Carson and Sister Lola Mae Carson preceded Jim in death.
The family will gather at Burckhalter Funeral Home on Thursday evening to receive friends and relatives from 6 to 7 p.m.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita with Pastor Skip McClain officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home of Vinita.

CHARLES DRAKE CARTRIGHT
1954-2006
GROVE – Charles Loy Drake Cartright, 52, died at his home in Grove, Okla. on Saturday, March 11, 2006. He was born on January 10, 1954 in Stella, Mo. to William J. and Audrey Joan Drake. He grew up in Southwest City, Mo. Charles was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a postal worker with the United States Post Office. Charles had lived in California, Texas, and Salina, Kan. before moving to Grove.
Survivors include daughter, Cindy Hodges and her husband, Jay of Mulberry, Kan. and daughter, Bailey; two brothers, Billy Drake and wife, Jeannie of Tulsa and Gary Drake and wife, Jerri of Miami, Okla.; two sisters, Jenny Higgenbotham and Kelly Evans; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial services are at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 18, at Southwest City Cemetery, Southwest City, with Pastor Doug Rainbolt officiating. Military rites will be by the Pineville/Jane American Legion Post #392. Arrangements are entrusted to Ellis Funeral Home, Grove.

MINNIA OPAL COBB
1910-2006
MIAMI, Okla. - Minnia Opal Cobb of Miami died at 9:45 p.m., Tuesday January 17, 2006 at the Miami Nursing Center after an illness. She was 95.
Mrs. Cobb was born August 18, 1910 to James Arthur Creswell and Lola Elizabeth May Creswell in Abilene, Texas.
After graduating from Okmulgee, Oklahoma High School she married Henry Clay Cobb in Okmulgee on August 28, 1932. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2003.
They moved to Tulsa during was where Henry was a flight instructor at Spartan School of Aerodynamics. In 1943 they were transferred to the Miami Spartan Training program.
Opal opened a private Kindergarten in her home for 22 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was choir member for many years. She was a Volunteer with the Grey Ladies and the American Red Cross. She was also a member of the Miami Evening Lioness Club.
She was an avid China Painter and a member of the local and state federations.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband Sue and Delmer Barnes, of Miami, a son and his wife, Jim and Judy Cobb of Miami. Four Grandchildren Renee Barnes O’Dell, Ozark, MO., Ken and Julie Barnes, Springfield, MO., James Cobb Whaley and Beau Whaley, Justin Shelby and Grace of Houston, Texas, Elise Davison Reiland and Mike Reiland, Cade and Micayla, San Antonio, TX., a sister Mrs. Jewel Henson, Edwards, MO. and several nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death her husband, a daughter Patricia Cobb Davison, a grandson, a brother, and both parents.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Oklahoma with the Rev. Bill Richey officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami.
The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Cobb.

JUNIOR COBLE
1932-2006
JAY, Okla. - Roy Junior Coble of Jay went to be with his Lord Monday January 23, 2006 at his home in Jay. He was 73.
Junior was born October 6, 1932 to Roy Perry and Grace Irene (Earp) Coble at Beaty Creek in Jay. He was a life-long resident of the Jay area and a member of the Faith Mission Church.
Junior married Helen Kirby in December of 1960. She preceded him in death on February 20, 1999. He married Pat (Tanner) Orr in March of 2004. She survives. He is also survived by: one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Bill Barnwell of Jay; one son, Kirby Coble of Ketchum, Okla.; six grandchildren, Heather Barnwell, Brenna Barnwell, Cade Coble, and Kash Coble all of Jay, Hidee Duncan of Gravette, Ark., and Heather Brown of Hiwasse, Ark.; three great grandchildren, Chloee and Carlee Duncan of Gravette, and Grayson Brown of Hiwasse; two step-daughters, Denise Huebert of Wichita, Kan. and Tina Kurtz of Arlington, Texas; four step grandchildren, Casey and Joseph Kurtz of Arlington, and Alissa Tiera of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Irene Abercrombie of Jay and Louise Murphy of Wagner, Okla.; three brothers, Dave Coble and Joe Coble of Jay, and Norman Coble of Byron, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Junior enjoyed a full life and worked as a plumber and carpenter. He worked the last 16 years for Delaware County Solid Waste. He loved his family, his friends, and his church. He enjoyed making pies for any benefits in town or anyone he thought needed one. Junior loved nothing better than going hunting with his best friend of over 40 years, Warren Shackelford. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, friend, and “Poppy” to many people. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 26, at the Mt. Hermon Church in Jay with Chester Crittenden officiating and Warren Shackelford assisting. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay. Interment will follow at the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

ROSCOE RUSSELL “ROCK” COX
1921-2006
GROVE - Roscoe Russell “Rock” Cox, 84, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Betty Ann Nursing Center, Grove, Okla.
Rock was born September 22, 1921 at Hopkins County, Texas to Claude Clarence Cox and Ada Grace (Beadles) Cox. He grew up in Hopkins County and entered military service in 1942 as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in North Africa. Rock was honorably discharged in 1946 and began doing auto body work in Commerce, Texas. He worked in several locations in Texas and New Mexico, meeting his future wife, Barbara Ann Owens, while in Lovington, N.M. The couple was married June 28, 1975 in Clovis, N.M. Rock worked in the auto body industry for 40 years, owning several of his own shops, including A-1 Auto Body and City Auto Body. Mr. AND Mrs. Cox came to Grove in 1981. Rock was of the Episcopal faith and a life member of the VFW.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara of the home; two daughters, Billie Jean Powell and her husband, Jackie of Brownwood, Texas, and Julie G. Deitz of Alma, Ark.; two sons, Christopher Deitz of Pismo Beach, Calif. and Paul Deitz of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Billy Jack Powell and his wife, Kim, Wendy Jean Rincones and her husband, Randy, Coby Dee Powell and Kamy Grace Powell; and three great-grandchildren, R.J. Rincones and Kelton and Britnee Powell. He was preceded by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 14, at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home with Aaron Williams officiating. Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Military rites are by Grove Veteran Ritual Team. Visitation for Rock will be Monday, March 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove.

JOE ALLEN CRAWLEY
1915-2006
JAY – Joe Allen Crawley, 90, Jay, Okla., died Friday, March 10, 2006 at Integris Grove General Hospital, Grove, Okla.
Joe was born September 17, 1915 in the Yergain community, northeast of Jay, to Ervie Crawley and Pearl (Hammontree) Crawley. He grew up in the Yergain community, attending school for the first eight years, there before graduating from Jay High School in 1935. Joe was valedictorian of his graduating class. He married Della “Jewell” Hannah on March 28, 1937 at Maysville, Ark. Joe began working for the U.S. Postal Service, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in World War II. After his military service, Joe returned to the Postal Service, working and living in Tulsa, Oklahoma some 35 years, moving to Grove in June of 1973, shortly after his retirement. He was a member of the Southside Church of Christ and the American Legion, of Jay, Okla. Joe took great pride in placing the Memorial Day Flags on the graves of deceased veterans at Maysville Cemetery. He also enjoyed attending reunions with his World War II buddies. Joe’s hobbies included reading, working crossword puzzles and gardening.
Survivors are his wife of almost 69 years, Jewell Crawley of the home; two sons, Jim Crawley and his wife, Debbie of Sapulpa, Okla. and John Crawley of Jay; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Conrad Crowley.
Funeral services for Joe were held on Monday, March 13, at 2 p.m., at Southside Church of Christ, Jay, with Steve Stenzel officiating, assisted by Robert Lawson. Interment was in Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay.

ALINE DAVIS
1928-2006
JAY - Aline Davis of Jay, Okla. died Sunday, January 29, 2006 at her home. She was 77.
Aline was born March 5, 1928 to Elmer and Elsie Andrews at Row, Okla. She worked as a Dietician at the Gravette Hospital in Gravette, Ark. She married Roy Davis September 8, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Survivors include three children: Kenneth Davis of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Patricia Leeth of Newalla, Okla.; and Steve Davis of Gentry, Ark.; along with seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday February 2, at the Mt. Hermon Church in Jay with Pastor James Bryant officiating. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay. Interment will follow at the Maysville Cemetery in Maysville, Ark.
