Aulton L. Leek
Family services will be held for Aulton Lynn Leek, 90, of Medford, who died Thursday (Feb. 26, 2004), at his home. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Hospice, 1660 E. McAndrews Rd., Medford, OR 97504 or a charity of your choice.

He was born Oct. 7, 1913 in Gainsville, Missouri to George and Lydia (Byerley) Leek. On Feb. 3, 1934 in Gainsville, he married Eula Loftis, who died March 17, 1993.

Aulton had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1950. He was a barber, a member of the Phoenix Church of Christ, enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, family, friends, and especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Findley and her husband of Medford; a son, Kenneth and his wife of Pendleton; a brother, Oscar and his wife of Medford; a sister, Lillith Tetrick of Corvallis; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Carmella Boich
Carmella Boich, of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2004) She was born in Lucernemines, PA on September 2, 1913.

Survivors include; her son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Marianne Carrol; granddaughter, Laura Blackfeather; and great-grandson, Lake Blackfeather. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Douglas W. Bryant
Douglas W. Bryant, 51, of Ashland, passed away at Rogue Valley Medical Center on Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2004).

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 1, 2004 at 3:30 at Rivergate in Ashland.

Mr. Bryant was born October 17, 1952 in Sweet Home, OR to Rufus and Shirley (Krambeal) Bryant.

He served in the US Army from 1975 to 1978. Following that, Douglas worked as a supervisor in sawmills in Oakridge and other areas. He later became a chef and worked at various places including Genessee Place and, most recently, the Pinehurst Inn and Box R Ranch. He married Sunshine Krambeal on January 1, 1995 in Lake Tahoe, CA.

Douglas was a member of Rivergate in Ashland and enjoyed serving the Lord and cooking.

Survivors include; his wife Sunshine of Ashland; daughters, Andria Mitchell of Prineville, OR and Bridget McGonagle of Butte Falls, OR; sons, Robert and Matthew Bryant both of Arlington, WA; his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Roger Rhoades of Springfield, OR; brothers, Allen Bryant of Coos Bay, OR, and Clinton Bryant of Payette, ID, sister, Becky Bryant-Ramirez of Eugene; OR, grandmother, Grace Stancer of North Bend, OR and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rivergate, 188 Garfield St., Ashland, OR 97520.

Dr. Richard Lee Swanson
Dr. Richard Lee Swanson, age 74, died February 24, 2004 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A memorial service will be conducted at Ascension Lutheran Church Saturday, March 6 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Swanson was born August 6, 1929 in Madison, Wisconsin. He grew up in Black Earth and attended St. John's Military Academy. He attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, receiving a BA degree. He received his MA degree in Physical Ed from U. of Minnesota in 1951.

On March 31, 1951, he married Marjorie Lysne in Mason City, Iowa. He was drafted into the Army in 1951, graduated from OCS at Fort Riley, Kansas and trained for medical service corps at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. During 1952-53 he was Detachment Commander and Registrar of the 44th MASH hospital in Korea. After the war he returned to pre-medical studies and attended the U. of Minn. School of Medicine where he received his Doctorate in 1959. In 1960 he returned to the Army for his internship at Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, N.C. In 1960-64 he was in the Otolaryngology Residency at Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland. In 1964 he started his solo ENT practice in Medford, retiring in January 2000. He continued practicing medicine for the VA in the White City and Roseburg Unit until his death.

He was a Diplomate of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and a Past President of the U.of O. Otolaryngology Alumni Association. He served several terms as Trustee of the Oregon Medical Assn. and was a member of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Professional Standards and Review Committee of the Jackson County. Medical Society. He served several years on the Rogue Valley Physician's Service Board and in 1996-97 was President of Prime Care, an independent medical practice association.

He enjoyed river boating, fishing, music and was an avid golfer. Dr. Swanson was a member of the RVCC. He sang in the Rogue Valley Chorale from its organization in 1973, and in the Ascension Lutheran Church Choir and Men's Chorus. He also sang bass in the "Doctor's Quartette" that entertained at many medical functions over the years.

He was a member of the Medford Rotary Club, becoming a Paul Harris Fellow in 1999. He was Oregon Golf Association Senior Champion in 1997 and in 1998, and in 1999 he was RVCC Super Senior Champion, and the So. Oregon Golf Tournament Senior Champion.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Mark Richard of Camden, ME, and Dr. Paul Eric of Bainbridge Island, WA; daughter, Janet Lynn of Portland; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dr. Earl H. Swanson; and sisters Jean and Jane.

Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Dr. Richard L. Swanson Medical Scholarship Fund, in care of Jackson County Medical Society, 204 Genessee St., Medford, OR 97504, or to the Academy of Learning at Ascension Lutheran Church.

George W. Bratton, Jr.
George William Bratton, Jr., 87, of Medford, died February 27, 2004 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Interment will be at Klamath Falls Memorial Park. Family and friends may pay their respects at a viewing Monday, March 1, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Perl Funeral Home.

Henry Bollinger
Mr. Henry Bollinger, 92, of Ashland, died February 26, 2004 in Ashland.

A Catholic Mass will be held at 11 a.m., March 2, 2004 at Our Lady of Mountain, with Father Joseph officiating. The Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., March 1, 2004 at Litwiller-Simonsen, 1811 Ashland St., Ashland.

Henry was born on May 3, 1911 in San Francisco, CA. He lived in Ashland since 1976. On January 14, 1942 in Reno, NV he married the former Edith Fitzgerald, who preceded him in death in 1999.

Mr. Bollinger was a Navy ship yard foreman, retiring in 1970. He enjoyed bowling and golf, and was a member of the Elks Lodge #944, Ashland.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Tobin of Arcata, California; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Kenneth Hixson
Kenneth Hixson, age 92, died Feb. 26 at his home. Born in Alverton, Pennsylvania, he had lived in Medford since 1972 with Emily, his wife of 65 years.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he is survived by son, Lemuel Kenneth Hixson and wife, Mary; son, Elbert A. Hixson; granddaughters, Kelly M. Drake and Debbie Hixson; grandson, David A. Hixson; sisters, Edie Dundon and Olive DeJean; and a brother, Carl. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Westside Compassionate Ministries, 520 S. Peach St., Medford, OR 97501 or Providence Hospice Services, 1111 Crater Lake Ave, Medford, OR 97504.

John "Jack" L. Nelson, 81, of Medford died Friday (Feb. 27, 2004) at Hearthstone. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

John W. Williams
John W. Williams, 53, of Medford, died February 28, 2004 at his friends home in Ashland. Arrangements in care of Abbey Funeral Services.

Louise P. Anderson
Louise P. Anderson, 88, formerly of Medford, died in Salem on Friday, February 27, 2004. Arrangements will be announced by Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Lucille B. Stelle
Lucille B. Stelle, 91, of Phoenix died Saturday, February 28, 2004. Arrangements: Conger-Morris, Medford.

Irene Elizabeth Giese
Irene E. Giese, 91, passed away on Nov. 4, 2004, in Central Point, OR.

She was born on January 2, 1913 in Thermopolis, Wyoming to Wakeman Elroy Lampert and Eva Carpenter Lampert. When the family relocated to the Rogue Valley in 1928 to start a dairy, she attended school in Central Point. Her parents then moved to Lakeview to start another dairy, but Irene and her older sister Helen moved to Ashland so Helen could attend college. Irene graduated from Ashland High School as Valedictorian in 1931.

In 1933 Irene married Ronald Miller in Lakeview, Oregon. They later divorced, but had a daughter, Ronene M. Miller of Midlothian, Virginia, who survives. Irene married Julius (Jay) Giese on July 16, 1943. He passed away in 1992 after being struck by an automobile.

Irene was known and loved for her sense of humor, and she had a passion for nutrition and healing through healthful eating and counseled customers at a health food store for several years. She and Jay traveled quite extensively throughout the United States and toured Japan, Australia, Thailand, Mexico, Canada and Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Harry Lampert of Myrtle Creek, OR. In addition to her daughter Ronene; she is survived by her sister, Helen Johnson Dressler of Central Point; and her niece and guardian, Karen Adams of Central Point.

The family wants to thank Betty Hager for her wonderful foster care of Irene for the past few years.

No services are planned.

Walter Herman Herzog
Walter Herman Herzog, 93, died Thursday (Nov. 4, 2004) at his home in Central Point.

He was born April 15, 1911 in Comax British Columbia to Henry B. and Mary E. (Helm) Herzog. On. Aug. 24, 1937 he married Helen Novguier in Enterprise, OR. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1950.

Walter was a member of the Catholic Church.

He worked as a dairy farmer and enjoyed woodcrafts, gardening, and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Central Point; his son, Donald and his wife Carol; his daughter, Louise Sakraida and her husband Dan; his sisters, Hilda Nouguier, Josephine Nelson, Evelyn Farren, Irene McFetrich; and his brother, Lawrence Herzog. Walter was preceded in death by his brother Vern Herzog.

Walter was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be missed. We are confident he is safe with the Lord.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul.

Funeral Mass will be held at noon today, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at the Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point. Interment will follow after the services in the Siskiyou Memorial Park, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.

Amber Nettie Sutherland, 99, died Nov. 3, 2004 in Medford.

She was born on April 4, 1905 in Highmore, SD to Charles E. and Ethel J. (Hinds) Young. On July 2, 1927 in Medford she married Harold C. Sutherland who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1924.

Mrs. Sutherland was a homemaker. She was a member of the VFW women's auxiliary.

She loved doing embroidery work, flower gardening, and she loved to dance.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Lester S. and Elmer C. Young, and a sister Delia L. Welburn.

A celebration of Amber's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd. There will be a viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
