Duane 'Duffy' Konopasek
A memorial service for Duane "Duffy" Konopasek will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at Table Rock Fellowship. 3608 N. Pacific Hwy., Medford.

Mr. Konopasek, 78, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 18, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born on April 1, 1926 in Verdigre, NB.

He was a owner operator of Modern Heating Company Survivors include his wife, Betty; three daughters, Dianne Donker, Darlene Gerstner, and Linda Steen; a son, Darrell Konopasek; three step-children, Pamala Anderson, Sue Porter, Rick Ragan; three brothers, Gene, Robert and Frank Konopasek; two sisters, Carolyn Kyle, Neva Nelson; 27 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Harold L. Snodgrass
Harold Lawrence Snodgrass, 93, of Lake Oswego (formerly of Medford) died Oct. 15, 2004 in Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin, OR, A service has been held, a final Commitment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004 at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born on June 25, 1911 in Neligh, NE. On Feb. 16, 1940 he married Jane Louise Attwooll who preceded him in death Feb. 8, 2000. They moved to Lake Oswego in 1994.

Mr. Snodgrass was a graduate of Wayne State Teachers College in 1934, and graduated from University of Minnesota College with a degree in Mortuary Science.

He worked as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. He was self-employed with Chapel Mortuary from 1948 to 1960. He was the manager of Perl Funeral Home from 1960 to 1980.

Mr. Snodgrass was a member of the Medford Planning Commission from 1958 to 1960. He was a member for 46 years at First Presbyterian Church in Medford and served as a Deacon and Elder, a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tigard since 1994. He was a member of: the Medford & Tigard Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Mason, Malta Commandary, Hillah Temple Shrine, the Medford Chamber of Commerce, the Tigard Kiwanis, a member of the Rotary since 1965 and a Paul Harri Recepient in 1991. He served as President of the Jackson County Family and Child Guidance from 1958 to 1960.

Survivors include: a son, James R. Snodgrass of Lake Oswego, OR; a daughter, Janet E. Tallis of Corvallis, OR; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, and three brothers, Floyd, Orville and Oliver.

Arrangements: Young's Funeral Home, Tigard, OR.

Jo McWilliams
"Grandma Jo" Jo McWilliams passed away early in October in Florence, Oregon.

There will be a memorial service Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at the Eagles Lodge, 2000 Table Rock Road, Medford. Come join her family and friends in a celebration of her life.

John Price Ernst
John Price Ernst of Medford, Oregon, passed away October 16, 2004, at the Anna Maria Creekside. He was a devout Christian.

He was born July 29, 1920 in Oakley, Kansas to Dora Price and John LeRoy Ernst. He grew up in St. Paul, MN.

He married Carolyn McVay Winter on June 12, 1954, in Burlingame, CA.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He also attended McAllister Conservatory in St. Paul and was an accomplished musician. He played the organ, piano, and many brass instruments.

His career spanned 34 years at Kaiser Engineers in Oakland. He retired as Principal of Mechanical Engineering. His accomplishments included worldwide designs and building supervision of many power plants, hospitals and churches. He designed and supervised the building of Mission Control in Houston, TX. Henry J. Kaiser called him his "little genius with the crew cut." John and Carol retired to Ashland in 1977. He and Carol traveled extensively in the U.S. with their children, and after retirement, traveled together around the world many times. He was active in his church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and spent 20 years as a volunteer for the Ashland Chamber of Commerce in the information booth by Lithia Park. He supported his church as well as the Gospel Mission in Medford. He was a Gideon.

His wife of the residence and three children; Kevin Ernst of Lower Lake, CA; Meredith Crellin of Medford, and Leslie Crellin of Lone Pine, CA; his sister, Dorothy Torgergen of Claremont, CA and a large extended family, survive him.

A memorial service will be held at the Anna Maria Creekside of Medford at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 26th.

Edith A. Ernst Erwin, 89 (December 4, 1914), of Medford, died Friday, Oct 22, 2004, in a Phoenix foster home. Arrangements by Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Esther L. Lee, 96 (Nov 25, 1907), of Central Point, who died Wed., Oct. 20, 2004, at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct 25, 2004, at the Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Carl T. 'Smitty' Smith
A celebration of Carl T. "Smitty" Smith's life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2004 at the First Methodist Church, Medford.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Methodist Church, 607 W. Main, Medford, OR 97501 or to RVMC Hospice, Nurses Education, The Foundation, 691 Murphy Road, Medford, OR 97504.

"Smitty" 90, of Medford, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Oct. 18, 2004) at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family. Just before Smitty joined Our Lord he was singing Amazing Grace accompanied by his son, Tom, on the flute.

He was born on June 10, 1914 in Hot Springs, NC. At the age of 14 months, he was orphaned and he went to the "Baby Home" in Bear Poplar, NC, and was later transferred to the Lutheran Children's Home of the South in Salem, VA. At four years old he was adopted by Lula and Charles Smith. When he was nine years old his father died and he was returned to the home. At 18 years old, he rejoined his adoptive mother. He attended radio school.

Smitty served in the National Guard for seven years in Kansas City, MO where he met and married Freda "Maxine" Groves. He was deferred three times in 1942 because of defense work. At the end of 1942 he was drafted into the Navy and served in the South Pacific Theater. He was honorable discharged in 1945.

Smitty worked at E.I. DuPont Paint Company for 28 years and he and his wife owned and operated Ed's Diner in South San Francisco for 13 years. They moved to the Rogue Valley to be closer to their beloved family in 1984.

He was a scoutmaster for 20 years, a devout Christian. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church, a choir member, a Lay person, was a board member, a member of the men's club, and a "Jack of all Trades." Smitty loved working on the pipe organ for the church, even if it was at midnight.

Smitty enjoyed sailing, and he owned his own boat for years. He enjoyed stained glass, music, photography, hand crafts, and spending time with his family and friends.

He was a member of the Organ Club of Medford and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Medford.

In addition to his devoted wife of 67 years, Maxine, survivors include his loving son, Thomas "Tom" and daughter-in-law Gerry of White City; his granddaughter, Shawn Barnett of White City; and his great-grandsons, Jacob, Zachery, Matthew and Nathaniel of White City.

MacKenzie Grace Jones
Sept. 28, 2004 - Oct. 18, 2004

MacKenzie brought so much love and happiness in the short time she touched our lives.

She was our beautiful strong angel and no words can express how much we love or miss her.

She is survived by her loving parents Troy and Wendy Jones; big sister, Kylie; big brothers, Niko and Jordan; live-in Auntie, Ashley Erwin; grandmothers, Jeannie Williams and Marie Jones; and grandfather, Ron Williams.

She was met at the gates of heaven by her recently late grandfather, Duane Jones, whose last wish was to hold his new granddaughter. Now he has an eternity to do so, until we meet her again someday.

She is also survived by many aunts, Casey Williams, Debbie Dedigo, Peggie Sewel, and so many more aunts, uncles and cousins, too numerous to list. She was very much loved, and will be missed more than words can ever express.

She had great-grandparents Helen and Don Williams, and great-grandmother Betty Shelburne, and many that preceded her.

In the few short weeks we were blessed with her, she touched so many lives, and it will be very hard to survive without her.

Lord, please watch over her and keep her safe until she can be with us once again.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Memory Gardens, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford.

All loved ones, family, and friends are invited to help us celebrate the life of our precious MacKenzie Grace.

Melba L. Cummings
Melba L. Cummings, 70, died October 18, in Medford, Oregon. She was born on December 29, 1933 in The Dalles, Oregon to George W. and Mabel (Crow) Cota.

She was a member of Friends Church, and Bear Creek Ladies Golf, and the Women's Bowling League.

Melba was a homemaker, her hobbies were, needle work, golf, bowling, card playing and painting. Melba was loved by all who knew her. She had many lifelong friends. She loved traveling, especially trips to Arizona in the winter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Keith Cota. Survivors include her husband Jess Cummings of Central Point, OR; sons Tim Anderson of Beaverton, OR, Todd Anderson of Medford, OR; daughters Lori Messenger of Medford, OR, Peggy Lavellee of Philadelphia, PA; step daughters Dianna Hunt of Whidbay, Island, WA, Susan Cross of Bend, OR, and Julie Williams of Springfield, OR; plus 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held of Friday, October 22, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at the Perl Funeral Home located at 2100 Siskiyou Blvd. Medford, Oregon.

There will be a viewing Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Perl Funeral Home. In lieu of flower donations may be made to the Medford Friends Church, 525 DeBarr Ave., Medford, OR 97501. Interment will be the Siskiyou Memorial Park. Perl Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Paul William Blumer
Paul William Blumer passed away peacefully at his home on October 17, 2004 in Medford, at the age of 76.

He was born on April 9, 1928 to Croatian immigrants, William and Mary Ann Lipp Sisul Blumer in Washington, PA, he attended grammar school and was graduated from Trinity High School in 1946. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church until he left Washington.

In 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a member of Patrol Squadron Forty Seven (VP-47) in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 as a Petty Officer First Class decorated with the Korean Service Medal (One Star), United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

On November 24, 1964, he married Marlene Carol Kaprus, who survives. After many years as a manager and director for Associated Theatres, The George Stern Advertising Agency, and Cinemette Theaters in Pittsburgh's theater and advertising industry, he moved to Medford, Oregon in 1976 where he was Media Director for Pacific International Enterprises until his retirement in 1996. He was a 28-year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Also surviving are one son, Jason C. Blumer, of Highland Park, IL; one daughter, Shannon C. Atkinson, of Fort Collins, CO; two brothers, George Sisul and Frank Blumer, of Washington, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren, Matthew Paul Blumer, Caroline Elizabeth Blumer, Luke Hayden Atkinson, and Miles Steele Atkinson. His father, William; his mother, Mary; seven brothers, Colonel Michael Sisul, Steve Sisul, Master Sergeant John Sisul, Joseph Sisul, Rudy Sisul, Matthew Sisul, and Nicholas Blumer; and two sisters, Helen Paige and Annie Beckman, precede him in death.

Visitation and viewing was held Thursday, October 21, from 3 -9 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford. A funeral mass will be celebrated today, Friday, October 22, at noon, at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point, Father Jim Clifford officiating. Private interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park will follow the mass.

Friends of Paul W. Blumer will be received Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Blumer residence, 3135 Alameda Street No. 15, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Paul W. Blumer.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris and Hillcrest, Medford.

Leland C. Brandon
Leland C. Brandon, of Medford died in a Medford care facilities on Tuesday, October 19, 2004. Hillcrest Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Donna Maye Murray
Donna Maye Murray passed away Monday, September 20, 2004, at her home in Medford, leaving loving husband William L. Murray; son, Steven Hjerrild; step-daughter, Christine O'Keefe; sisters, Theo Wickersham, and Joyce Jakobson of Los Angeles, Vonnie Simpson and June Anderson of Iowa; brother, Burl Anderson of California. Also, leaving behind, loving grandchildren, Benjamin and Natasha Hjerrild and five other step-grandchildren.

There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.

Everett 'Larry' Stutsman
Everett 'Larry' Lee Stutsman, age 80, died at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle on September 16, 2004.

Larry was born in Eagle Rock, CA June 22, 1924 to Clarence and Blanche (Adams) Stutsman. He graduated high school in Grants Pass, and lived in the area for many years, spending summers in Brookings.

He is survived by his wife, Von of Bainbridge Island, WA; two sons, Mike of Bellevue and Mark of Bainbridge Island; along with five grandchildren, Kasey, Austen, and Hunter of Bellevue, and Blake and Rikki of Bainbridge Island.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home, Bainbridge Island.
