Vivienne Lyle Gray
Vivienne Lyle Gray, 57, died Saturday (Nov. 13, 2004) in Shady Cove. She was born on Jun 18, 1947 to Bill and Penny Lyle. Perl Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Charles George Widmann
Big band drummer known as Chuck George passed away Nov. 12, 2004 surrounded by his children from Oregon and Wash. His daughter from New York was not able to arrive in time.

He was born on May 28, 1913 to Gustave and Elizabeth Widmann in Queens, N.Y.

Mr. Widmann was a lifetime member and Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge and Past Worthy President of the Eagles. He was a life member of the Musicians Union and Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his daughter Carol and her husband James Coyne, daughter; Elizabeth and husband Dix Fairbourn; son Bob and wife Connie Widmann; daughter Chris Ogburn; and son Daryll and wife Trena Widmann; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great grandchild on the way. He also leaves behind a dear friend and musician Dave Flick and friends Quinn Berry, Muriel Beattie, and Geneva Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers John and Gus Widmann; and two sons Richard and Charles Widmann.

Funeral services to be held at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland, at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004.

He will be missed by all.

Cindy L. Phillips
June 16, 1954 - Nov. 13, 2004

The memorial service for Cindy L. Phillips will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews Road, Medford.

On Nov. 11, 2004 Cindy was diagnosed with leukemia. She died at the Oregon Health Science University in Portland, two days later.

Cindy, age 50, is survived by her husband, Bruce Phillips; daughters, Amanda, and Sarah; her mother Alice Garrett; and her sister Toni Garrett.

Cindy was born in Medford, Oregon to Lee and Alice Garrett. She graduated from Medford High School in 1972, and later attended Blue Mountain Community College. She married Bruce in 1978 at the Nazarene Church in Medford and had a wonderful marriage for 26 1/2 years. She lived in Klamath Falls from 1983-1996. In 1996, the family moved to Central Point.

Cindy was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford.

She was employed at the Blossom Hills Child Development Center as a teacher, and had recently achieved her teaching certification.

There are no words to express how much her husband, daughters, family, friends, teachers and children, loved her.

There are no words for how much we all will miss her.

LeLan Edward Starks
A memorial service for LeLan Edward Starks will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at Hope Christian Church, Central Point. Dr. Aaron Veach will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to, Rogue Valley Hospice.

Mr. Starks, 65, of Central Point, died Nov. 10, 2004 at his home.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1939 in Boise, Idaho to Lawrence and Marie Starks. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1953 from Boise. On June 27, 1959 in Central Point he married Joe Ann LaCasse who survives.

Mr. Starks repaired and serviced commercial laundry equipment.

He enjoyed hunting and ham radios.

In addition to his wife survivors include, a son Murry D. Starks; a daughter, Lee Ann Starks; a sister Frances M. Johnson; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael W. Starks.

Vistation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 at Conger Morris Central Point Chapel.

Nina Roberta Turpin
Nina Roberta Turpin, 77, of Medford, passed away Monday (Nov. 15, 2004) at Medford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Nina was born March 25, 1927 in Buhl Idaho to Carl Russell and Elizabeth M. (Sutton ) Andersen. Nina grew up on Pearl Street in Medtord. At age fifteen she worked for Keiser-Fraiser Shipyards in Portland, Oregon as a fetcher and a welder, welding brackets on big ships. While in Portland she stayed with the Lowlor Family.

At age sixteen Nina married Sterling C. (Bing) Miller. While Bing was in the United States Army, Nina at the age of seventeen enlisted in the United States Army, WAC Division being stationed at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. While in the service Nina received the WW II Victory Metal and an Honorable Discharge. During her Army training Nina completed her education and also completed Cooks and Bakers Service School. The Cooks and Bakers Education allowed Nina to follow her passion for food preparation, presentation and canning. After Nina and Bing were discharged from the Army they built a home on Barnett Road. As time went on they watched their four girls grow as Barnett Road went from a two lane road into what it is today. They watched the hospital, freeway and manor being built.

Nina supplied fancy cakes and pies to the Dreamland Ballroom and to the Merricks Ballroom, both located in the Medford area. Nina married Dale Eldred and they started Dales Window Cleaning and Janitorial Service. Nina took over the business as Dale became ill. She ran the business for thirty-two years, at one time servicing all of the businesses on Pine Street, downtown Central Point, and over twenty large businesses in Medford. During this time a dear neighborhood friend gave Nina her first piece of ceramic bisqueware and supplies to finish it. This opened up a new world for Nina, as she opened two ceramic shops, one on Barnett Road called Ye'Ol Ceramic Shop, running it for ten years. The other was located in Phoenix called Claydove Ceramics and she ran that shop for fourteen years.

Nina had many hobbies through her lifetime. She sewed, sewing the majority of her four girls dresses. She loved to crochet, bowl, swim, square dance, ballroom dance, prepare and canned all types of fruits, vegetables and meats. Nina loved flower gardening and her favorite flowers were The Bleeding Heart and Snapdragons. Nina enjoyed music, her favorite Gospels were, The Old Rugged Cross, Whispering Hope and In The Garden. Her favorite country music was Blue Spanish Eyes and Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain. Nina played an accordion.

Nina supported the American Red Cross by her donation of blood. She had given over ten gallons of blood, stopping only when she found out she had diabetes. Nina also loved to travel and took her four children throughout the western states on several trips and to Mexico, once pulling a travel trailer. Nina was an excellent driver. She loved the Ozark Hills of Branson, Missouri and enjoyed the country music and history of the area, traveling there four times in her later years. Nina also loved the Hawaiian Islands and the history of the islands. She was able to travel to the islands once. Nina had great knowledge of the Ozark Mountains and of the Hawaiian Islands studying each with great joy. Nina loved the Oregon Coast and traveled there often. Nina supported the American Red Cross and the 4-H and Future Farmers Of America Clubs locally throughout her life.

Nina lived a very full life. She believed in Jesus Christ as her savior and that Jesus was the way to Eternal Life. Nina is survived by the following family members and friends; four daughters, Jane Bandy and husband Jim, Shirley Sarmento, Bonnie Coward and husband Jim, Donna Seufert and husband Scott; six grandchildren, Sherrie Bandy, Shannon Sullivan and husband Bryan, James Cutburth, Holly Meeker and husband Brian, Jennie Wickersham and Amy Wickersham; four great-grandchildren, Magon, James, Abby and Zack. Nina had a special niece she thought dearly of Sharon Anderson Fagone and a special friend Barbara Atkins. Nina had two brothers, Lawrence Anderson and Carl Anderson. Preceeding her in death were a daughter Roberta May Miller, a grandson James M. Bandy Jr. and her three husbands. Sterling C. (Bing ) Miller, Dale Eldred and Bruce Turpin, a dear friend of hers and of the family, Oilie Hodges. Nina had many dear friends and relatives throughout the years.

Nina's family extends a viewing of celebration and memories from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.

Ruby F. Wood
The funeral service for Ruby F. Wood will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, in the Memory Gardens Morturary Chapel with Chaplain Paul Hagedorn officiating. Committal will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wood, 91, of Central Point, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004.

She was born Dec. 11, 1912 in Marshall, TX. On Feb. 5, 1930 she married James A. Wood, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wood was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include: a daughter, Betsy Smith; a son, George both of Central Point; a daughter, Cheryl Patrick of Winnemucca, NV; and a son, Michael of Shelton, WA; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Arnold Wood Jr. and a grandson, H. C. Vogler V.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504 or the American Diabetes, 380 SE Spokane #110, Portland, OR 97202. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, (today) in the Memory Gardens Mortuary at Bellinger and Arnold Lane.

Alex Hohweiler
Alex Hohweiler, 84, of Central Point, died Monday (Nov. 15, 2004) at Providence Medford Medical Center. He will be buried at the Gndenfeld cemetery in Woodward, OK later this week.

Ernest Ray Kennedy, Jr.
Ernest Ray Kennedy, Jr. 74, of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 15, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements; Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Calvin E. Meadows, Sr.
Mr. Meadows passed away in his home Nov. 14, 2004.

A Memorial will be held at the Veterans cemetery at Eagle Point, 3 p.m., Friday (today) Nov. 19, 2004.

Calvin was born in Medford, OR, March 12, 1938 to the parents of Ora and Dorothy Meadows. He lived all of his life in Medford. He married Pam Aryes in 1958. He had two children. In July 24, 1971, he married Ethel Smith.

Hunting, fishing, motorcycling, and traveling was what he enjoyed doing beside driving truck. He spent 25 years at Medco, 3 years long hauling for R.S. Trucking, 1 year chip truck hauling for Gary Britt and 3 years at Bettendorf Trucking.

He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather.

At one time he enjoyed riding our motorcycle with his friends from the Rogue Valley Road Riders, Retreads, and Goldwing Road Riders Association. He volunteered for the O.D.F.W in 2001-2003.

Survivors include: wife, Ethel; father, Ora Meadows of Beaverton; sister, Marilyn Hirchert of Hillsboro; brother, Clarence of Central Point; son, Calvin, Jr. of Everett, WA; daughter, Debra of Saginaw, TX; two grandsons; 4 granddaughters; and stepchildren, Roger Smith and Donovan Smith, Jr., both of Spokane, WA, Kathleen Smith of Puyallup, WA, and Victoria Smith of Medford.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Meadows, and stepson, Russell Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dubs Cancer Center, Medford. In lieu of flowers, potted plants suggested.

He was well loved and will be remembered in our hearts forever.

Chester Leroy Gale
Dec. 22, 1933 - Nov. 6, 2004

Anoka, MN - Medford, OR Chester Leroy Gale died Saturday, November 6 after suffering an aneurysm. He led an energetic and productive life and was enjoying retirement in Oregon. He was generous, kind, enthusiastic and loving and enjoyed bestowing unexpected gifts on those he loved and adored.

He volunteered to help numerous charitable events and organizations and was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Medford. He loved helping people.

Chet enjoyed following sports, entertaining friends and family and had enjoyed a prestigious career in the Aerospace industry for many years as a Consultant and troubleshooter in Production Control and Processes for Lockheed Martin, Ryan Aeronautical and Aerojet. During retirement he enjoyed finding and improving real estate investments.

He was married three times and is survived by his son Larry Gale and his children, Dietrich and Jennifer; his daughter Diane Gale, and her children Rick and Heather; Mary Schaeffer and her children, Christina & Lisa; Ricardo Salas and his children, Miguel and Clarissa; Kenneth Salas and his son, Cameron; Lisa Salas and her children, Rick, Eddie, Shelby, Kristina and Ashley; Chet's brother Frank Valenti; and his sister Gloria Olson.

He was a generous man, who loved God - and will be missed by those that knew and loved him.

Services will be held Sunday, Nov. 21st at 3 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Oakdale in Medford.

Deacon Walter Grandon
A mass of Christian Burial for Deacon Walter H. Grandon will be at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 19, at Sacred Heart Church, Medford. Father Liam Cary of Sacred Heart Church will officiate. Internment will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Culver City, CA.

Deacon Grandon, 91, of Medford, died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 2004) at Farmington Square, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Commission for the Blind.

He was born on July 17, 1913 in Detroit, MI to Stanley and Frances Grandon. In 1945 in Santa Clara, CA he married Marie Rose Lipinski who preceded him in death in 1985. He moved to Medford in 1996 from Anza, CA.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1931 to 1933.

Deacon Grandon worked as a Director of Material Control for McDonald Douglas Aircraft Company for 40 years, and retired in 1972. He went to seminary and became an ordained Deacon of the Roman Catholic Church in 1978.

Deacon Grandon was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, the Rod and Gun Club in Torrance CA. He was active in the Catholic Churches of Hemet, Anza and Idyllwild, CA.

He enjoyed fishing and reading.

Surviving Deacon Grandon is his sister Jane Stelmaszek of Eagle Point; nephews, Jeffrey Williams and his wife Maxine, Barclay Brown all of Eagle Point; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, step-children, his sister, and two brothers.

Ernest (Ernie) R. Kennedy, Jr.
Ernest (Ernie) R. Kennedy, Jr. passed away at Rogue Valley Medical Center on November 15, 2004, after a long illness. Ernie was born October 17, 1930, in Junction City, Oregon. He moved to the Rogue Valley with his parents in 1952. He attended Oregon State University graduating with a degree in Pharmacy in 1953. After serving in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he returned to the valley and managed Central Point Pharmacy. In 1963, he founded Cascade Pharmacy in White City, OR, where he actively practiced pharmacy until 1992 when he sold the business. In recent years he continued his profession by working part-time at the Medicine Shop in Medford.

As a young man he was active in the Oregon Jaycees, serving as State Vice-President. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Medford, Medford Masonic Lodge, Hillah Temple Shrine, and the Royal Order of Jesters and Rogue Valley University Club.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Esther Smith Kennedy. He was the father of two daughters, Kathi Brewer and Susan Kennedy, who reside in the Rogue Valley and grandchildren Jason, Alisha, Amanda Hinkle and Jenny Kennedy, and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers William Kennedy, Medford, and Montee Kennedy of Berlingame, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ruth Kennedy and his sister Catherine Bear.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 21, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church, Eighth and Holly Streets, Medford, OR. The Rev. Dr. Joyce DeGraaff will officiate.
