Mary Elizabeth Wilson
Mary Elizabeth Wilson, 87, of Medford, died Monday, January 3, 2005 at Farmington Square.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Foots Creek Chapel with Pastor Mike Moore officiating. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery. Southern Oregon Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Alzheimers Foundation, 1311 NW 21st Avenue, Portland, OR 97209 or the American Red Cross, Rogue Valley Chapter, 60 Hawthorne Street, Medford, OR 97504.

Mary was born November 23, 1917 in Noti, Oregon. In 1940 she graduated from Oregon State College with a home economics degree. On July 1, 1940 in Eugene she married Wayne F. Wilson. At the end of World War II, when Wayne returned from serving in Japan, they moved to Grants Pass. In October 2003, she moved to Medford.

She was a Girl Scout leader; worked on the Election Board for many years; baked and decorated wedding cakes and taught cake decorating.

She loved quilting, camping, and was an avid reader.

In addition to her husband, Wayne Wilson of Rogue River, she is survived by five children: Loverna Wilson of Corvallis, Betty Schultz of Rogue River, Wayne Wilson, Jr. of Pleasanton, CA, Marj Jameson of Medford, and Bob Wilson of Grants Pass; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Michael Allen Keeton
A memorial service for Michael Allen Keeton will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at the Tablerock Fellowship.

Michael Keeton, 53, of Medford, died on Jan. 2, 2005.

He was born in Medford on April 2, 1951. He graduated from Crater High School in 1969.

Mr. Keeton worked at Talent Rural Fire Dept.

After a disabling injury at the age of 21, he went on to receive a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration at SOSC. He was also involved in local community legislation to get wheelchair access to schools and buildings.

He loved being a part of his family and friends lives. He enjoyed reading and the outdoors.

Mikes optimistic attitude inspired all who knew him.

He is survived by a sister, Patricia; two brothers, Jim and Don; nieces; nephews; and friends who love him and miss him.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to all Mike's caregivers over the years.

Naomi Hellyer
Naomi Hellyer, 89, of Medford, died December 31, 2004 at Providence Hospital.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., (today) Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Conger-Morris, 715 W. Main St., Medford. Burial will be at the Veteran's National cemetery in Eagle Point. Johnny Lay of Foothill Baptist will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Foothill Baptist Church, 2722 Springbrook, Medford, OR 97504.

Naomi was born October 2, 1915 in Amarillo, TX to Albert and Myrtel McGinnis. On May 10, 1942 in Seattle, WA, she married Howard Hellyer, who survives. In 1976 they moved to Medford, from California.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crafts, camping, and fishing.

In addition to her husband, Howard, survivors include sons Larry D. McCain of Granada Hills, CA and Howard W. Hellyer Jr., of Medford; daughter, Judie A. Owens of Ferndale, WA; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Cleo McGinnis.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors of Medford.

Richard 'Dick' G. Guches
A memorial service for Richard "Dick" Grant Guches will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at the Applegate Community Church. Rev. Kurt Krowell of the Applegate Community Church will officiate.

Mr. Guches, 70, died Monday (Jan. 3, 2005) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born on June 28, 1934 in Medford, OR a son of Vernon R. Guches and Viola Ethel Meadows Guches. He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life. On Jan. 5, 1957 in Applegate he married Kay Goin who survives..

Mr. Guches was a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956.

He was a millworker for Timber Products Co. until his retirement.

Dick was a Master Gardener. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons. He especially enjoyed family get togethers, and working in his greenhouse. He was known throughout the valley for his prize tomatoes.

In addition to his wife, Kay, survivors include sons, Glen R. of Applegate, Roger W. of Libby, MT, Edward R. of Applegate; daughters, Deanna L. Medina of Central Point, and Connie F. Olivas of Williams; a sister Verna Williams of Crescent City, CA; brothers, Charles of Applegate and Melvin of Rogue River, OR; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Ralph Guches.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris, Medford.

William 'Bill' M. Florey
William "Bill" Michael Florey, 35, of Central Point died Jan. 1, 2005 at his grandparents home. At his request no services are planned.

Bill was a 1987 graduate of North Medford High School.

He joined the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne. He was a paratrooper and linguist. He served in Panama in 1989 and "Desert Storm" in 1991. After the Army he received his bachelors degree in criminology from Metropolitan State College in Denver, CO.

He worked for the Veterans Affairs in Denver. He was a security officer in Palm Desert, CA. Then to Dallas, Texas as a trouble shooter for a major computer company.

Bill returned to the Rogue Valley where he courageously battled brain cancer for the past year.

Bill, as a youth enjoyed go-kart racing, camping, hiking and the great outdoors. He was a member of the Crater Lake Council of the Boy Scouts. He lost his battle with cancer on Jan. 1, 2005.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Crater Lake Council, "Camp McLoughlin Fund".

Freddie M. Herndon
Freddie M. Herndon, 87, of Medford, OR, died Friday, December 31, 2004 at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. No services are planned.

Janet Marie Honea
Janet Marie Honea, 19, of Grants Pass, died Dec. 31, 2004 in an automobile accident near Union Creek. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005 at Chapel of The Valley- L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Jean C. Fuller
Jean C. Fuller, 78, of Rogue River, died Monday (Jan. 3, 2005) in Three Rivers Community Hospital, Grants Pass. Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Stella M. Budd
Stella Mae Budd, 84, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2005) at her home. Arrangements: Memory Gardes Mortuary, Medford.

Bob Cook, Sr.
Robert Haynes "Bob" Cook Sr., 78, of Rogue River, passed away Tuesday Jan. 4, 2005 in Medford.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday January 12, 2005 at the Veteran's National cemetery in Eagle Point. Perry Atkinson will officiate.

Bob was born July 2, 1926 in Salt Lake City UT, to Neal Watterson Cook and Sarah Abigail (Brower) Cook. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII as a Paratrooper and was a lifetime member of the American Airborne Association.

On Sept. 27, 1947 he married Lillian Janet Spencer in Rockville RI, who preceded him in death in March 2000 in Medford.

Bob and Lillian moved their family to Medford in 1961 from Grandview WA, after vacationing at Union Creek and falling in love with the Rogue Valley. He worked for various radio stations in advertising, including KDOV, and was manager of KYJC when it was still owned by the Mail Tribune. He and his two sons owned several shoe stores in Medford in the 1980/90's.

He is survived by his daughter Lori Lantz of Medford; sons, Bob Jr. (Melanie) of Medford; David (Linda) of Ruch; grandson Michael of Medford; his sister Martha Louise Swan of Portland; and various nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Neal.

The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers over the last year, especially to Alonzo Mattison of Joyful Living Adult Foster Home for his compassionate and exemplary care.

Gayle Swanson Howell
Gayle Swanson Howell, 49, of La Quinta, California, was killed on January 6, 2005, in a one-car accident in Arizona.

Gayle was born October 29, 1955, to Art and Jean Swanson of Medford. She attended public school in Medford and graduated with the class of 1973. On August 14, 1976, she married Gerald (Jerry) Howell in Medford.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry of La Quinta, CA; sons, Dain Arthur Swanson Howell, 25, and Cameron Lee Swanson Howell, 23, both of Phoenix, AZ; and sisters, Glenda Kaiser of Eagle Point and Gloria Thompson of Medford.

A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Perl Funeral Home in Medford; gathering at 12 and Ceremony at 1 p.m.

Jean R. Strawn
A memorial service for Jean R. Strawn will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 at the West Main Church of Christ, 1701 W. Main St., Medford. Rev. Gregg Strawn of Circle Church of Christ of Corvallis will officiate. Interment will be at Veteran's cemetery, Eagle Point. Visitation will be today Tuesday, Jan. 11, from 1 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Conger Morris Funeral Chapel, Medford.

Mrs. Strawn, 76, of Central Point died Friday (Jan. 7, 2005) in Central Point.

She was born on Feb. 1, 1928 in Collbran, CO to William Sheldon Robinson and Mellie Elizabeth Casler. She moved to Grants Pass from Colorado in 1938. On Jan. 31, 1951 in Central Point she married Ernest R. Strawn who survives.

She was a 1947 graduate of Grants Pass High School.

Mrs. Strawn enjoyed her family friends and grandchildren. She was a member of the West Main Church of Christ since 1962.

In addition to her husband survivors include a son, Terry Strawn of Central Point; a daughter Patricia Heffner of Central Point; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters Alta Sutherland, Ruth Prather and Bertha Keller, and a brother, James Robinson.

Jeanne Fieberling
Jeanne MacLean Fieberling, 80, died on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Hearthstone Nursing Facility, Medford. A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

Jeanne was born on October 1, 1924 in Goldfield, Nevada. She was raised in Carson City, Nevada, attending local schools until her family moved to Hollywood, California in 1940. Much of her adult life was spent in Southern California. In 1972 Jeanne and her daughter returned to Carson City; here she renewed many old high school friendships and worked as a bookkeeper for the Ormsby House Hotel & Casino, and as an unemployment insurance adjuster for the State of Nevada. She retired in 1985 and moved to Medford to be with her daughter, Paula Saunders and her granddaughters, Audra & Taryne Saunders who survive her. Jeanne enjoyed painting, cooking, reading, spending time with those she loved (especially her grandchildren) and was the keeper of many wild family stories.

She will be remembered for her generous nature, her loving heart and wonderful sense of humor.

We have been blessed to have her in our lives and she will be greatly missed.

Leon "Leo" Stan
Leon "Leo" Stan, 85, of Ashland passed away on January 5, 2005 at his home.

A viewing will be held at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home on Friday, January 14, 2005 from 2-7 p.m. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 15, 2005, 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 2004 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Dwayne Robinson officiating. A reception will follow the service.

Leo was born to Gregory and Elena Stan on April 12, 1919 in Wayne, MI. He graduated from Cass Technical High School, and served in the U.S. Navy from November, 1940 to January, 1946 on the USS New York, the USS Tennessee and the USS South Dakota. Leo was a Pearl Harbor survivor with decorations including the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 5 Battle Stars, the American Defense Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Citation "Heroism against the Japanese" while aboard the USS Tennessee, and the Philippine Liberation Medal.

Leo began studying instrumental music at Cass Tech High School, where he played reeds. He later gained extensive study under Mr. Rosser and Mr. Netting of Detroit and Dave Wight of Ashland. Leo was a talented concert Bassoonist in the Rogue Valley, playing with the Ashland City Band for 6 years, the Swing Kings, the Southern Oregon University Orchestra for 6 years, the Hillah Temple Shrine German Band, the Johnny Lampson Dance Band for 15 years, the Easy Valley Eight for 2 years, and the Southern Oregon Symphonic Concert Band. Leo moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991, with his wife, Mary Alla Stan, who preceded him in death in 1994. Besides his music, he repaired instruments, was a trade show exhibitor and worked in sales and merchandising for Seagram Distilleries. He also studied watercolor painting under Rex Brandt, Robert Woods, Bill Berk and George Post.

Leo is survived by his daughter Jane Ellen Frost of Roseburg, OR; sons James Gregory of Sanger, TX and David Lawrence of Hilt, CA; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mary Kathryn Bell
A memorial service for Mary Kathryn Bell will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2305 Taylor Road, Central Point.

Mrs. Bell, 72, of Eagle Point, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2005) at her home.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1932 in Arkansas City, Kansas. In 1950 in Winfield, Kansas, she married Frank E. Bell who survives.

Mary enjoyed camping, traveling, reading and puzzles. She loved to spend time on her computer.

In addition to her husband, Frank, survivors include a son, Paul; two daughters, Janice and Michele; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Meegan Sue Fletcher
Nov. 13, 1974 to Jan. 7, 2005

Family and friends will join together for A Celebration of Life remembrance from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, January 15th at McQuilts, located at 4403 S. Pacific Hwy, Phoenix, OR., to honor a beloved young mother, daughter, sister and friend.

Her journey in this life was so very short. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. She lived her entire life in the Rogue Valley, attending local schools and college, then working at several jobs prior to joining her mother at McQuilts.

She enjoyed the Oregon Coast, camping, quilting and above all else, being a mother. Meegan lost her partner Steve in October, a week after giving birth to their son William. We know they will now be together forever. Her loving stepfather Mike McCracken also preceded her in death.

She leaves behind two young children, Olivia 11; and William three months; her mother Susan McCracken; sister Jennifer; and brothers, Jason, Matthew and Shaun; her father Roland; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you remember Meegan with a contribution to "The Meegan Fletcher Memorial Fund" at any Washington Mutual Branch.

The family would like to thank the staff at RVMC and the paramedics for their valiant efforts.
